- In this video, we translate and explain the title of every Super Sentai series. From Himitsu Sentai Gorenger to Avataro Sentai Donbrothers and Ohsama Sentai King Ohger.

It even stayed that way all the way through the end of the second season where they were even in-universe retconned to be an official sentai replacing Dairanger but was canned after thirteen episodes, causing Super Sentai to fail. So much for "temporary"
"Donbrothers" was derived from the Japanese word "donburako" which is an onomatopoeia referring to an object floating along a water's current. "Donburako" is also the first word in the story of don momotaro, the story the sentai is based on.
True, it's supposed to be the peach plopping into the river.
I now understand the opening song much better
"Don" is also the onomatopea for the sound of a drum. Like the Drums that are played during festivals in Japan

there's also something interesting about the Go-onger and Kiramager titles, where in their "Sentai" titles are apparently read as English words but are written differently in kanji thus making them mean something else
i.e. "Engine" in "Engine Sentai Go-onger" is written as 炎神, and it can be read as "enjin", but it means something like "burning souls", in reference to the Engine Souls they use to transform
"Machine" in "Machine Sentai Kiramager" is written as 魔進, and *is* read as "mashin", but it's literally translated as "magical advance", referencing the zords of this series, the Mashins, and how they're basically magical gemstones that turn into vehicles that move forward/advance
enjin means more like "flaming god" or "motor ace"

The Mashin part is also the same Kanji or Katakana used for Mashin Chaser in Kamen Rider Drive. That's why a lot of people meme about Chaser being an unofficial member of the team. (They first wanted his actor to be the 6th ranger, even the actor supports the notion)

Kyuranger has a lot of play on words
Kyu = Nine, the number of original rangers.
Kyu = Sphere, the motif of their morphers. "Shishi Kyutama" is "Lion Sphere Ball"
Kyukyu = Rescue, they regard themselves as the "Saviours of the Galaxy" rescuing the galaxy from Jark Matter.
Hence why they keep saying kyunin kyukyoku kyuseishou. Nine ultimate saviors.

Also they use pool/billiards to send over the Kyuutama. I think that's a joke on "Cue Ball" since Tama can mean ball. So the Kyuu Tamas are Kyuu Balls.
Fun fact: the "Sun" in Sun Vulcan is a pun; it's a homophone for "three" in Japanese, and Sun Vulcan was the first three-man team in the franchise. Similarly, as you pointed out for Kyuranger, "kyu" means nine, so "Kyukyu" also means "nine-nine" in addition to "emergency," which is why the GoGo-V mecha are called 99 Machines.
Could 99 also refer to the show premiering in 1999?

Zyuden or Juuden also means "charging" as in battery charging. This also explain why their trinkets are basically batteries.
the Gosei in Dairanger's name mainly refers to the "5 stars shining in the heavens" that get mentioned throughout the series
It literally is in the kanji 五星 as in 五星戦隊ダイレンジャー
Also the Gosei in Goseiger is different

KyuuKyuu Sentai GoGoV has another hidden meaning - Kyu is Japanese for 9, so as well as meaning "rescue", it also sounds like "nine nine" and the show started airing in 1999.
Kyukyu could be from the onomatopoeia of an emergency siren, thus the translation being "rescue".

For anyone who doesn't know, Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger makes a lot of dragon references because it originally was meant to be a dragon themed sentai, but toei changed their mind because they knew Dinosaurs were more popular.
This has has always been my sentai biggest disappointment because a dragon knight themed sentai would have been so much cooler/original then just ANOTHER dinosaur themed sentai.
Which was shortly after the last dino-themed sentai with the exact same colours.
"Don" in Donbrothers can also be for the "DON" sound effect of something imposing/surprising/hitting a drum
Another note about Donbrothers: the japanese pronunciation of "Donbothers" (donburaazasu) contains the word "donbura", which means "to float", a reference to how Momotaro from the tales (and Tarou himself in the series) was found floating down a river inside of a giant peach.
So you could say it's called floating brothers then eh?

To go on this, Avataro part is that Avatar represents them being able to change "Avatars" to other past Rangers.
Regarding 'Bakuryu' in Abarenger's full name, it also has the potential to be read as one of my favourite dual-language puns. Baku is 'blast', Bakudan is 'bomb'/'dynamite'...
So you can also read it as *'Dynasaur'*
Japan loves their puns, and Sentai's names are no different. The Sun in Sun Vulcan is pronounced as San, the Japanese word for 3, a reference to the team having 3 members.
Mashin actually translates as "Magical", but pronounced as the English word "Machine", giving it a double reference to the Kiramei stones' magical attributes while also becoming vehicles.
Kyukyu, while translated as Rescue, can be read as "Nine-Nine", which refers to a whole slew of things (The year the show aired, some rescue codes using 99, etc etc)

I heard gokaiger can have gokai mean "mistaken", which is related to how often people good and bad get tricked in almost every episode.
Also, oh-sama is how to address royalty. The normal Japanese is to say whoever-San, or a boy is whoever-kun, a girl is whoever-chan... someone ultra important is -Sama. You see this in plenty of seasons, usually the lesser villains talking to the lead villain out of respect.
0:17 The "Fever" part is because they all do their own dances during the roll call. Japan does a martial arts inspired dance, Cossack does a traditional Russian dance (but ironically not a Cossack dance), France does a Flamenco dance, Kenya does a tribal dance and America does a disco dance (which naturally lends itself the most to the title of "Fever" lol).
Don't know if you know, but Deka is also detective slang in Japan, alongside the aformentioned meaning behind there being ten Dekarangers.
So much of this was informational and I did not realize (RealxEyes?) how much of Showa sentai relied on sci-fi names. So far, from what I've seen of Kingohger, I like to think it is both king AND overlord given how the team is acting in rebellion to Rascles (sorry for spoilers)

Ninja Starburger is the best morpher in a bad season.
The "OH" in Ohranger refers to "Overtech Hardware", which refers to the combination of ancient and then modern technologies that far surpassed what the rest of the world had when the Machine Empire invaded.
The "tai" in "Dengekitai" refers to a team or squad. One of the more common translations of Sentai is "Task Force". You mention that most of the early teams were science themed, however, a number of them were military/police organizations as well. (Goranger were spies that worked for a military group in Japan.
A quick tip for pronunciation - - with the exception of 'i' and 'u', try pronouncing the rest of the vowels as if there were an invisible 'h' after them.
Also, Gosei can be read as 5 Star.
For go-onger, it's also a double meaning. In addition to the "engine" part of engine sentai, when you translate the Kanji, it literally translates to "Fire God" or "Fire Devil"
It would never be translated as Devil
And go-on in go-onger also means the roar of traffic
A few notes:
Zyu doesn't mean "ten", it just has a similar pronounciation with the word "juu' which does mean "ten".
And the rumors of Zyuranger having ten rangers were just rumors coming from the fact "zyu" sounds similar to "juu".
Ninninger does have an explanation.
"Nin" means "to move stealthly", "ninger" is a word play, since it has a similar pronounciation to "ninja", so the full translation would be something like "Shuriken Squadron Stealthy Ninja".
Isn't shuriken the ninja's sharp star which is the shape on their helmets

Zyu is ju though, it's just a different stylization for the romaji. Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger, Hyakuju Sentai Gaoranger, and Juken Sentai Gekiranger have the same kanji for that part of their respective names, they just chose to stylize it differently when using romaji for reasons that are unclear. In all listed cases the translation of the kanji is "beast" making them Dinosaur Squadron Beast Ranger, 100-Beast Squadron Roaring Ranger, and Beast-Fist Squadron Attack Ranger. Then there's the extrra word play for Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger involving batteries and electrical charging.
Also, too bad that doesn't fit the "shinobi nareru shinobanai".
I like that you pronounce Avataro as Evataro but then said Avatar after, which is how you suppose to say Avataro😂
and Kyu can also be translate to balls, hence why there's alot of ball jokes in the season
He literally "toro" though, not "taro". There is no "o" sound in "Avataro" except for the very end.
For Dekaranger: Tokusou in Japan is also short for the Tokubetsu Sousabu/Special Investigation Department 特別捜査部which is like a Secret Service/FBI in terms of investigating political corruption and large scale financial fraud
I can't really disprove anything from this video, but I feel like you used too much the "Go"=Gorenger reference.
Some seasons have such clever and/or intricately layered names and titles.
And then there's the Kingly Sentai King-King Rangers
The "Gao" in Gaohrangers is derived from the Japanese word "牙王" meaning fang king. Its my take on the title btw😂😂
Edit: the "Bakuryu" in Abarangers can mean either exploding dragons or raging dragons. By dragons means the dinosaurs.
For Ninninger, the shuriken is literally a weapon and "Ninnin" could be a reference to the Ninja Hattori anime where he always says "nin nin nin"
The Japanese word for adventurer is boukenger so Boukenger can be both adventure rangers or literally adventurers.
Technically, it's 'boukensha', but close enough.
I imagine Avataro in Donbrothers also refers to the way they can transform into copies of other rangers, becoming "Avatars" of other Sentai
It’s correct, which is also why Kijibrother has the most troublesome time as his avatars doesn’t have a prefix to his gender
I always did find it hilarious how the first dinosaur Sentai only had two out of six members based on actual dinosaurs.

Gokai also translates to 5-times maybe being a shorter version of 35-times since they are the 35th Sentai. That’s my take

Donbrothers is a play on donburako, which describes the noise of a peach floating down the river and is a word that was invented for Momotaro if I remember correctly.

If you're trying to spell 10 for the Japanese hiragana word in alphabets, it's actually spelled JUU hints why sometimes you see spellings with JUU. ZYU is also used. In fact, it's more commonly because pronunciation wise apparently thapparently that's more accurate.
JUU is phonetically closer. At least, that's how I hear it, and how the official hiragana is spelled.
Dairangers could also be interpreted as wordplay combining Dalian (or Dairen) and ranger, which sorta works with the China motif.
Abare Sentai Bakuryuger never came to mind despite Kyoryuger title is a flip a roonie of Zyuranger. Abare Sentai Bakuryuger sounds great ngl

It could have been cool if an image of Kaito from Zenkaiger was inserted when he said Kaito for Lupinrager. Also, in the Senpiger movie, the name joke was actually used since Stacy thought Kiaito came to fight alongside him. However, it was kaito as in thife that came instead.

A note about kingohger. In Japanese adding -Oh to something or someone is often translated as "king of x" in addition to x king. So you could also interpret it as "royal sentai king of kings ranger" this I think is also hinted at by the intro where it literally says "king of kings" in reference to ruling over the other kings.
Kingbeetle King-ger, the upgraded form of Beetle King-ger, the leader of King Team Kingking-ger from the series King Team Kingking-ger, was a major part of the episode King Team Kingking-ger.
Not to be confused with Kingbeetle King-ger, the villain ranger from the earlier episodes of King Team Kingking-ger.

The original concept for Dynaman was actually for them to be baseball themed. I forget exactly why the theming was changed, but they already had the ranger suits, and I believe half the monster suits by the time the original scripts were scrapped in favor for what we got with Dynaman. This is why the ranger suits in Dynaman look more like baseball uniforms rather than something more scientific or demolition based. The original name was going to be Yakyuu Sentai V-Leaguer. Yakyuu directly translating to Baseball, and V-Leaguer in reference to there being five rangers(Roman numeral 5 being a V) and being players in the Japanese Baseball League
The reason they are called the don brothers is because it’s haruka telling the story through her manga and the main donbrothers except her are men so BROTHERS and she can break the fourth wall because she is the narrator

_Senmai Sentai Dance-Dan-ger : Senmai = One-Thousand dances ; Dance-Dan-ger as a portemanteau of Dance dance, Danger and ranger.
several people also thought on Kingohger about the "ohger" part which sounded like "ouja", which pretty much means "ruler".

炎 (En) is flame, 神 (jin) is godly, so "divine flame" is a possible translation

So ohsama is the word oh meaning king with the suffix sama which is used when referring to someone of great importance, usually royalty. So it basically means a king but referred to with great respect, “like his majesty”. BUT if you wanna get very technical, something like Richard-sama for example would be translated asking Richard, sama being translated as king in this instance. So if you really wanted to you could sorta translate Ohsama Sentai King Ohger as King King Sentai King Kingger

It's fun that you want King-Ohger to be called an insect or bug sentai when when some of their zords are not insects nor bugs, such as the three spiders. The two God Kumo and the God Tarantulas are indeed actually arachnids.
Gokai can also be combination of two words, Five (Go) and Seas (Kai) which would make sense them being pirates

Want to add a little bit, for some sentai name, the "ger" or "ranger" part actually matters because of japanese pronounciation, you kinda explained it on abaranger which is abare-nja , but there's more :
- Ohranger was pronounced orenja, ore here is also the pronunciation of ole, repeated catchphrase of the season
- Ninninger pronounced ninninja, which has ninja in it
- Zyuohger pronounced Juuouja, so instead of juu-ou meaning beast king like you explained, but its juu-ouja which means the champions or ruler of the beast
- Same ouja is also works for KingOhger or king-ouja, which instead of meaning king king, it meant the champion of kings or basically the ruler amongst the Kings
Now make one explajning every Kamen Rider name 😏
(Fr tho, there are some very interesting origins for some of them, even if others may seem obvious at first like Drive, Ghost, Brave and Grease)
You know they're running out of idea for Sentai's names when they use the same word 3 times for a name, 2 of those stand next to each other

It's ah-vah-tah-ro, as in avatar representing their ability to transform into other sentai members (unlike Gokaiger where they wear the powers, the Donbrothers actually transform into them)
