"The law is a spear that slays Kings and a shield that defends the people" is one of the rawest lines I've ever heard come from any show
The first purple sentai ranger in the normal cast
There is other purple Sentai before her
@@zekiertheripper6299 they mean being the first one in the MAIN team rather than being an add on
@Ian yorkland Still a purple derivative, you'd still call Blue Swallow, Ninja Blue, Hurricane Blue, Magiblue and Zyuoh Shark the Blues of their team despite being light/sky blue. Geki Violet and Kyoryu Violet were called "violet" despite being purple.
Is she the first she purple ranger not an add, evil, or main just She the first She Purple Ranger
@@tsukimilo You do know that violet is just another way to say purple. Right?
She funny and cute.
Honestly the whole team is entertaining and memorable just out the gate.
Gap moe: the juxtaposition of looks verses personality.
Someone who does their best and is stressed out trying to keep her feelings in check and only lets out behind closed doors makes people genuinely care about a character very fast. Especially when they funny and snarky.
I see your point about Rita doing what needs to be done extends at least partially to how they treat others as well, like when they give Gira the OhgerCalibur but still kicks him down. It's like "yes, you are not on my level, but you still have to do this" and I think it's a really cool part of their characterisation.
Yeah this episode pretty much says it all. An iron clad judge that takes the job seriously even if the job is stressful.
Because she is so serious its kinda funny and the stuffed yeti thing she have is freaking adorable.
well said! I only thought Rita looked cool at first but their focus episode sold them as a character for people to resonate with.
And as you've said, I hope they have a few episodes focusing on why Rita does what they do in their room. If the showruners are having them be the same age as the actress portraying them (21 yrs old), the pressure to have that title and responsibility at that age would definitely take its toll on them. Adding a war against the Bugnarok and Racles's schemes could only push them further down that possible hole.
"Gira is no longer an outlaw"
Yeah about that....
Cool
cute
professional
dorky
Responsible
Beautiful
Well mannered
Fair
Powerful emotionally and physically
AAAAAHHHHHHHHHH
What's not to love about her
Rita screaming is what sold her for me.
"so is twice as smart" I would consider that a x4 score multiplier
Rita's surname Kanisuka is pronounced as "ka-ni-ska". Papillon is pronounced like the transformation announcement as "pa-pi-yon". It literally means "butterfly" in French.
Do all tokutubers watch these episodes on mute
Why everyone calling it PapillEEEEEEEon Ohger it's Papillon it's the French word
Yeah!! just said it how it’s been said In The show
And the henshin gives a way to pronounce them: Qua God, Tone Boy, Come and kick it, Hatch it, Pop it on
Because that's the American pronunciation of the word the Japanese pronunciation isn't the same as the French either
@@tsukimilo that's all just nonsense

she have soo many quirks making her the most interesting character as of now..but that sudden screaming i can see how i will be annoyed if they overused it.
I like her screams
Cool edgy character with a cute actress. Love her
Dose anyone think Rita's kingdom is going to bring something to the table ?
I feel like Rita's kingdom is a sovereign monarchical state the same way Vatican City is. It's more of an administrative zone.
Oh yeah, the Pope is technically the King of Vatican City
It’s cause purple is my favorite color plus they have a cool design and fun personality to watch
She’s so bad ass, I usually don’t care for any ranger that isn’t red but this purple ranger is so cool
綺麗だし演技上手いし何より声が良すぎる…🥹🥹
‘Cuz she’s cool. And plus, Moffun.
I love rita-sama/papillion ohger she beautiful cute and adorable and funny too when she scream
She looks like a ninja who is a judge who is also a ruler, and her ranger color is Lavender, a new color for a primary ranger member
Lavender falls under purple.
@@parkergreen2704 which has never been on the initial primary line up.Geki Violet could be considered a primary ranger, but he still wasn't part of the starting line up cuz it was a power trio at first which make it debatable.
I can totally see her Plushy being adapted into the mentor in Power Rangers.
I think Hachi Ohger a.k.a. Kaguragi Dyvousky is my favourite as it shows that traditional Japanese culture can be modernized
By any chance are you still going to do more "Not The Power Rangers" videos? They're still Power Rangers inspired T.V shows you haven't done a video on yet. Like Ace Lighting, Aaron Stone, Animorphs, Mech-X4, Megas XLR, Virus Attack, Zevo 3, Armor Hero, Spider Riders, Mummies Alive, Dino Squad, Metajets, Galidor, Gormiti the Lords of Nature Return, Monster Buster Club, and probably some others I forgot to mention.

I really do appreciate you using they/them pronouns for Rita, it's really so refreshing to see. 💜
@Joshua Bowman Would be a shame if official sources said otherwise
@@Peashamit would be a shame if you were told to shut the fuck up and let us have the representation even if Japanese media is still new to queer characters so they have to wrap it in them being female to allow the show to still have consistent viewership
Best looking suit on the team
Yuzuki Hirakawa confirmed about Rita Kanisuka’s Gender in King-Ohger
From a Media/New site interview with MyNavi:
"I heard that the role of Rita was decided through an audition. There were two female warriors in this work, Himeno and Rita, but was she aiming for Rita from the beginning?"
"At the audition, I learned that there will be two female cast members for this upcoming production. At the time of the first judging, the script I received on the day had Rita and Himeno written on it. I thought. From there, I was already acting while turning my attention to Rita."
That's her confirming her own gender, not Rita's.
@@Peasham Official interviews refer to Rita as a female. “Double heroine girls talk” (in the thumbnail) ruclips.net/video/lZ4WyTqcwbw/видео.html. “Himeno and Rita’s Girl’s Talk Special”
ruclips.net/video/v4b40DIl9ak/видео.html.
The synopsis for Episode 5 on the official TV-Asahi website also uses “kanojou” (Japanese female pronoun) to refer to Rita. Bear in mind that previous reports of using male pronouns are false. Those are the result of machine translators inserting pronouns where there aren’t any in the Japanese text. Rita’s title is also more accurately translated as “monarch.” Technically, yes, it can be translated as “king,” but “king” is usually translated into Japanese as “ou,” (as in Ousama Sentai, or Gira’s title “Jaaku no Ou”), while Rita’s title is “kokuou,” which is a little different.
@@papaya8605 also don't forget eps 38 man, the episode was basically revealing that Rita's gender is female

The thing about the mosquito thing to get Racles' DNA, is that Rita slapped him with their bare hand. So there's is a risk of their DNA getting into that blood sample, by way of sweat on the palm of their hand. Thus resulting in a contaminated sample.
Thus could also mean the Gira is related to Rita, though I don't think this was intentional by the writers.
kids didnt understand that far. So take it easy dude
Or maybe Gira is a mosquito 🤔
Its because Rita is adorable
Considering King-Ohger is finished, i know this is a little late. I also don't want to judge (no pun intended) this video as it does have interesting points to look at, but i feel like the breakdown went a little "too" deep.
Rita as a character is shown to be more conscientious, and less stoic. And it was shown i believe in the next episode and more to come, that her character traits weren't born from trauma, but from a strong sense of duty, possibly due to the nature of her monarchy. The scream was a show gag that's supposed to poke fun on the weirdness of being an introvert, and as for Gira? I believe it's the opposite. He DOES show similar traits to Rita, and in fact to all the other kings (including Jeramie), as his character arc revolves around learning the responsibilities on becoming a king.
I think the closest to being an edgelord in the cast would either be Kaguragi or Jeramie, although Kaguragi's backstory wouldn't be much clearer until about 20 episodes later, so i can understand why that wouldn't be pretty obvious.
Blue one is my favorite
Papillion is not my favorite but I still like papillion.

Mostly american fans pushing gender politics on her.
Most of the controversy surrounding her gender comes from Western fans who don't recognize this kind of stuff isn't really as normalized in Japan. If you think she's a woman, cool. If you think they're NB, cool. Either way, there doesn't need to be a debate over this and neither side needs to force their beliefs on the other.

To be honest, I like every other character in the show more than Rita.

Rita Is My Favourite Female Sentai. Her Screams Are Sexy
Because people are being simps, wich is kinda sad because this mean they are missing the point of her character.
She's genuinely a pretty cool character (no pun intended) yet I'm not gonna lie, at times it genuinely feels like some people only care about her because they insist that she's NB and is some kind of icon because of that. Which is as you said, kind of sad because it shows that some people would rather focus on the gender identity of a character than the character themselves.
Don't get me wrong, Rita's my 2nd favorite but if Toei had just said "she's a woman. done" instead of that whole presenting herself as gender neutral thing it's very clear that some people would not care for her to begin with.
@@allgoodnamestaken6002
Yea Rita is cool and it's sad that honestly people fixed on the collor scheeme of her clothes and strapped unsolicited pronoums on her. And claim to like her just because of it really.
But I don't think toei really pushed for it, her character was never had much connection with her gender but on the few times it did matter (like when they yuri bait her and himeno) she was treated as a her.
But when you think about it outside Yanma and Himeno (because Yanma and Himeno core traiths revolved around ideas of manlyness and femininity respectively) the gender of the King ohger really didn't matter for their characters.
@@MrRobot-0 You're right that it doesn't, yes. I just find the whole debate strange. What, because a female character doesn't act or look traditionally feminine means she can't be a woman and immediately must be NB or anything else?
It's not that I'm against enby representation in media but this specific case is an enormous reach in logic IMHO. Toei Tokusatsu shows have had enby characters before, like Naki from Zero-One and Sonoshi from Donbrothers-and both of them were explicitly stated to be such by Toei themselves, if Rita was truly undeniably enby they would've done the same.
I honestly just find this entire thing really tiring and wish people would stop trying to force woke gender identity politics onto a Japanese children's show.
All that aside, one of the main reasons I like Rita so much is just how relatable she is. She's still a kid at heart and deep down doesn't want to grow up, which I relate to a lot. She thinks she has to constantly put on this act of being this stone cold impenetrable badass 24/7 because deep down she's pretty insecure about herself, which is a nice perceptive for a character.
@@allgoodnamestaken6002 exactly.
I personally find Rita fun mostly because while she is probably the most comedic lf the kings (between her and Jeremy really) she is undobtely a badass that will make everyone else cut the kings usual fucking around if it's needed.
Im not saying that she is my favorite character trough, but this is more a testament of king ohger character work and much well executed out all 7 of them are.
Favorite Character, Reason: Her Screams😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Yes!!!
I thought they simp
Wait! I didn't know Rita was actually nonbinary! That's huge! The subs I used said "her" and changed Himeno to "queen!"
She outwardly presents herself as gender neutral for optics but that isn't the same as legitimately identifying as non-binary, which I think is where many Western fans are getting confused.
Sonoshi from Donbrothers and Naki from Zero-One were both NB and were outright said by Toei to be such, they would've done the same with Rita if she legitimately was.
There's also the fact this gender identity stuff isn't really a big deal in Japan like it is in the USA to begin with. It's admittedly been a bit of an issue with the Toku fandom in general lately, trying to impose their Western culture and beliefs onto foreign products.
i like them because canon enby character but also because they’re purple. that’s it.

@@HBRice17 I'm making fun of you for being upset that the person in the video is gendering Rita properly, as in, addressing them with "they/them" pronouns.
I didn't figure I'd have to explain that but here we are.
Is Rita even a they/them? Is it more polite to just assume or use traditional pronouns until they tell you they prefer a certain pronoun?
It's confirmed that she's a female.
I believe it's the terminally twitter users wanna make sht up for their politics in other shows and saying she's non bi. While in the show its obvs that she's a she.
I can't change their minds, if they wanna believe and pretend that she's a they/them, it's fine.
Out of the titles that each character has been referred to by Rita's are all Non gender specific like the Sovereign and Your majesty whereas the other are more masculine or feminine

@@ernestobaldelomar9028 the official sources defined the character as a majesty and non binary person
Their a gender neutral hero according to Uchisen, with the gender not being disclosed still, but if anything female and gender neutral pronouns have used interchangeably from the many sources so I say use she/they pronouns if anything
Rita is girl, stop that circus please
Yes, but apparently since she doesn't act or look traditionally feminine or otherwise conform to traditional gender standards then that means her gender must be called into question.
And the thing is I don't even care if someone sees Rita as NB. It's the people that attempt to aggressively force that narrative onto others that I find absolutely insufferable.
It's sad too, because looking past all this (frankly stupid) controversy, she's a genuinely cool character. But it feels like a lot of people only care about her because they latch on to the possibility she/they could be NB, because I don't see them talking about ANYTHING else regarding Rita.
Why do you refuse to call this female character "she"?
Could have something to do with official sources confirming their gender to be neutral, you never know.
Why do you ignore that the character is gender neutral?
You're trying waaaay too hard with the they/them bit
🤪
You're trying waaaay too hard with the he/him bit, you're she/her now, cuz I said so.
Oh no,how dare someone use the right pronouns for a gender neutral character
@@DarkEcho32 Outwardly presenting oneself as gender neutral for the sake of optics is not the same as actually identifying as non-binary, unless you want to go ahead and call Mulan a man for pretending to be one.
And before you people try to label me as some kind of "-phobe", I'll say that Toei Tokusatsu shows have had NB characters in the past. Naki from Zero-One, Sonoshi from Donbrothers. They were explicitly said to be such by Toei. Not only has this not been the case with Rita, but there has also been official sources that refer to her with female pronouns, such as the synopses for episode 5 on the TV-Asashi website that refers to Rita with "kanojou", a Japanese female pronoun. So, that means her gender is AMBIGUOUS, and thus up to your interpretation.
I don't care if you think she is NB in spite of that, but forcing your interpretation onto other people who think otherwise is incredibly toxic behavior. Moreover, moral grandstanding over the gender identity of a character from a Japanese children's show is not exactly how you promote yourself as a paragon of morality.
@@allgoodnamestaken6002 "this isn't the case"
Rita has outright been stated to be nonbinary by the actress. You want to try to say you aren't being transphobic yet here you are, ignoring an official source. You're the one acting toxic here and putting words in people's mouths. Maybe learn how language actually works instead of only acknowledging what agrees with you and I might take you more seriously. But I don't expect much from someone who's so childish they accuse someone of grandstanding because of mild sass.
