Modern TMNT is what really caught my attention to this series. I was never interested until I started to take a look at modern NECA and Super7 stuff very cool just started collecting it

In a pursuit to reclaim my childhood, I’ve decided to go after my old TMNT toys. In order not to go broke, I’ve decided to only go vintage on thee the OG 4 Brothers, and Modern for all rest. 😅
@advgym my collection started with the 4 original bros, then things escalated quickly haha. Great place to start though you are also in for some very exciting things if you're new to modern figures.
This video was awesome!! You talked about stuff I needed to hear. I thought I was the only one at a crossroads on how far to dig into certain lines, or my starting/stopping point on how I was proceeding with my collection. Long story short so that I don't write a novel in your comment section, I really enjoyed this video. Keep up the great work!
Long winded responses are always welcome here. I love hearing everyone’s thoughts it’s pretty much why I do this. Glad you dug the video dude! No right or wrong way to collect but prioritizing definitely becomes more important for me as time goes on.
Whoa, you're videos have really shifted my opinion on modern toy collecting, and seeing these toys and hearing the passion and seeing the designs, youve awoken the 5 year old turtle crazy me and now I think Im going to start collecting again.
@mrgone19871 dude that's always one of the coolest things to hear. Getting someone hyped enough to start collecting always makes me feel like I've done something incredibly right, even if I don't now what it is haha.
I don't collect much. I have a modest horror fig collection and the only bigger toyline I'm into is TMNT. It's one of the few childhood franchises I still genuinely love and the old school playmates toyline is something I admire and look back on with, yes, lots of nostalgia. I also think, for my preferences, it's a line I like even outside my nostalgia because I think they're just endlessly creative on a design and execution level. A lot of ppl into vintage toys call the original line overdone with all of the gimmicks and variations of the same figs and yadda yadda. But it's a huge line that spanned years full of colorful, creative monster creatures with fun molds and a step above most figs of the era, imo. So in that regard vintage TMNT is the best action figure line ever followed closely by vintage MOTU.
For me collecting vintage/vintage re-issue is the way to go to keep my collection more contained and manageable. I don't want to be a completionist and space is limited, so sticking to ONE subset of the TMNT brand is how it works best for me. The new re-issue line from Playmates caters to my nostalgia as well as goes easy on my wallet as they're only $10 a pop at retailers. Add to that some cheapie vintage figs I can pick up at cons/toy stores and I'm all set.
I do desperately want the Neca TMNT 90 figs but I missed the boat on those as I'm not like, IN the toy collecting community so much as just hovering around the outside here and there. If I see them at a con for a reasonable-ish price I'll nab them.
@nope5657 the rerelease playmates stuff is fun to collect for sure. Is it as good as the originals? No, but still gives you the same vibes and feels and looks it’s just awesome to see them on the pegs. I a buddy just found me mutatin’ raph and Leo and they look pretty damn good.
I love how creative and off the wall the playmates line was. I get that it might not be for everyone but it was the perfect line for me.
Here's my thing though. The money you're gonna spend on gas, trips to go to this or that Walmart or Target or whatever, might as well pay a few extra bucks and order it. But I do recommend anyone buying stuff "in the wild" as much as possible.
@user-mz6ly1fj3z I feel like collectors tend to leave the gas thing out of the equation a lot. Not to mention the time it takes out of your day. With stuff that goes fast like the Toon figures, I'll pay $15 for the shipping every time just to avoid the hassle.
That new intro is fresh! You got me sold on the Super 7’s! I see some 90’s movie theater cut outs peekin out from behind the bookshelf 🤘 sick! Your content gets me pumped to collect.

man, i can't really afford much right now on my fixed income, but i do have the neca movie figures, and the accessory set, so i have doubles i could put the alternate heads on them and have both. so my collection right now is really small, but it will grow. and I got that same feeling you described when I bought these. Not a day has gone by since i bought them that I haven't picked one up and admired it and just got that real excitement that I got as a kid when I collected them.
@user-mz6ly1fj3z dude the NECA live action turtles might be the best looking turtle action figures there are. All collections start small and honestly I was just as excited about my collection when I was getting started as I am now. Enjoy what you have and be happy whenever you can get more.

Bro great video as always, I really enjoy them. Everyone has their different way they go about collecting turts. I always find it interesting on different people's take on it. Me personally seem to be the opposite I mainly collect the vintage line because it's more nostalgic for me and I'm a nostalgia junkie. I found in my area the vintage toy stores are more expensive than eBay which really sucks because I would rather find it in the wild than on my phone. Except for MOTU origins I've really been collecting for lately because I've been finding really good deals online and I think the line is very well done and true to the original.

Dude it is really bumming me out to hear that all of your local toys stores have prices higher than eBay. I said it to someone else, I don't get how they can stay in business. The first thing I do is check sold prices on eBay before I buy anything.
Origins is another one that scratches a modern and vintage itch. I would kill for Playmates to do exactly that.
A lot of great points all around. The first 4 waves of OG Playmates are definitely my wheelhouse too. I have 4-5 figures from wave 5 but like you I'm in no hurry to complete that one. And I doubt I'll ever have a vintage Hot Spot or Scratch but I've come to terms with that.

Same I would like to have a complete mainline one day but am I ever really going to pay that much for Scratch? Doubtful...

You’re lucky bro. I have an awesome store in a nearby city with an awesome inventory but they want ridiculous prices for things, so I’m stuck with hood ol eBay. Great video!
Another dude said his store is over eBay prices too. I don't understand how these places are staying in business. The first thing I do before I buy anything is check eBay to look at the sold prices in the last 90 days. I'm more and more thankful for where I live the more you guys talk.
I mainly look for vintage figures through Facebook, flea markets and SOME retro toy stores in my area. I'm finding retro Toybiz Xmen & Spiderman all the time for cheap at Gamexchange. Got a 94 Kraven the Hunter for 53 cents in the bargain bin. I lucked out getting the NECA movie figs second hand for cheap. Playing the long game on the toon figs, but love seeing them. Super7 is too expensive for me. I'm on the hunt for the original megazord, dragonzord & tigerzord. I got almost all of the original DBZ figures from a friend. Vintage wrestlers, care bears, Street Sharks, Batman, Centurions are what else I'm after.
Toybiz X-Men and Spider-Man figures are the next retro lines I will eventually be diving back into. It's pretty surprising how cheap those figures are even new in package. My buddy had the OG Tigerzord, I loved playing with that thing when I went over there.
I would be all in on the turtle movies line if Bebop and Rocksteady were in secret of the ooze. Because Kevin and Peter hated be Bebop and Rocksteady. They wouldn't let them be used. Which sucks because they would've looked amazing if Jim Henson creature shop were allowed to make them. I don't understand how Kevin and Peter could say no. Bebop and Rocksteady were created for the Fred Wolfe cartoon. Maybe it's because the cartoon is a TMNT property. So any characters the Fred Wolfe cartoon created are owned by Kevin and Peter. If you know or have a better explanation I'd love to hear it.
@patrickmcgavin2245 it's kind of funny now how Kevin Eastman has come full circle and embraces Bebop and Rocksteady now. It would be cool if NECA did movie looking versions as "what if" type characters. Those would go gangbusters.
The only thing I know for sure, is that Mirage studios did own the rights to every character no matter where it came from and it probably was ultimately Kevin and Peter's call.
We’re getting an April 2.0 and they’re re-releasing that Casey Jones 2-Pack in 2023.

If I remember correctly, Mad Hatter mentioned this in his Haul-a-thon video as well. I held off on collecting NECA Toon figures until recently - I was all about Super7 and didn’t want to collect two lines. But after playing Shredder’s Revenge and discovering Eric’s channel, I fell into the temptation 😁. But I’ve also seen how bad the “late fees” are so I’m glad to hear they are getting reissued.

I’m with you on this topic. Super 7 is that perfect medium for me at this point. I love it all but the way super 7 hits me in the nostalgia can’t be beat. I just got sewer surfing Mikey and I’m over the moon with him. ( also love the intro and the outro!)
Dude Sewer Surfer Mikey is easily one of the best figures they've done both in the aesthetics and the quality departments. Love that guy. Glad you dig all my random thoughts before and after the meat and potatoes.

Yeah, I know what you mean by the prices on most of the modern figures but you just gotta look in the right places. And some figures I managed to pay reasonable prices without paying and then saying amount. Both NECA and Super7 are awesome lines with their strengths and weaknesses. By the way, how many ultimate super 7 foot soldiers do you have in total? And do you army build your foot soldiers? Because that’s fun
@Symphonia30 I have 4 Super7 Foot Soldiers and I do for most lines outside of Playmates at the moment. I have 10 for the NECA movie line (2 still in package), 11 for the NECA toon line (1 of them is Alpha One), and only 2 for NECA arcade line. And you are correct, it is fun.
I like to split the difference and collect re releases of vintage
Oh I definitely grab all of those as well haha. At only $10-$12 a pop or even $15 for the pizza tossers is too much for me to resist haha.

@@beardedmegatron5816 surprisingly, playmates figures hold up very well. Sometimes you'll get one that's a little sticky from the age of the paint or one with hips that are a bit loose. Other than that, most of mine feel brand new.
I really hope for my birthday I get the super 7 tmnt figures and i really want to get the neca movie figures so hopefully I get them some time this year

Dude toys at the shops are always more expensive than eBay. You're definitely wrong on that. There's tons on eBay that are expensive but if you wait for the auctions and you pick the good ones to bid on you'll pay way less than they charge at any shop guaranteed
I feel like your toy stores must just suck. Every figure at mine is at least $5-$10 cheaper before you even include shipping. For instance, you can get complete Muckmans for $20 a pop all day at my store which are typically $30 on eBay. I've never seen less than 20 of them in the case so you can also pick the best looking one.
You are correct on auctions if you are patient you will definitely get things very cheap if everyone else is sleeping on it. But 99% of TMNT listings are buy it now you don't see many people running auctions on single figures.
I agree. I stuck with eBay, and I get good deals. Just be patient, watch 1 wait for it not to sale if the price high than when it doesn't sell message sell with a realistic price I got all 4 apollo 11 turtles on card for about $135 each with in the last 5 months just be patient
Patience really is the key to it all. If you're too eager to get things you're bound to be overpaying for them. Like you said "months" if not "years" is how long it takes sometimes.

Eventhough I grew up on the Playmates toys, I currently don't have any of the rereleases. The only vintage fig I have is Slash, but want to grab a set of rere's sometime. I do have the figs I want, (NECA and Super7) and am waiting on the cool stuff NECA is dropping this year, starting with InvisiDonny in a month or so. The NECA Mirage comics Turts are gonna be sweet.
Im in the middle of nowhere, it forces me to eBay. It sucks, but I can find exactly what Im looking for.
Question: do you think NECA is going to have something like they did last April, preorders for upcoming figures?
Yeah I know where you live you barely even have any big box stores near you let alone vintage toy stores. I guess central Indiana is like a collectors paradise. I'm pumped for the turtles too I wish NECA would do official rereleases of the first issue turtles. I would like to get that set one day regardless.
I definitely think they're going to. Also, Target themselves did a pretty good job with the preorders as well. I'm hoping they come with pretty high volumes of this stuff. It will be interesting to see how figures will move now that we are into the next level of deep cuts.
