I really enjoyed testing these products out! Be sure to let me know what side your on below #TeamShea or #TeamMaui. If you love this video be sure to thumbs up share it. xoxo
Leximarcellaa I am always #TeamSheaMoisture! 🤗🙌🏽💁🏽💜 I tried the Maui Moisture smoothie (which has aloe Vera as first ingredient, so I thought it'd be good for my thick, curly/coily hair) and it had NO hold and gave me more frizz than I think I've ever had...I liked the ingredients for the health of my hair, but not for styling at all! 😔💔
Leximarcellaa i like more refined curls i feel like i get longer use out of them then voluminous curls because volume usually turns poofy & frizzy and im a curl definition fanatic now so i say #teammaui. lol even though i do use the shea moisture curl enhancing smoothie on and off i never use it alone just like u said lack of hold. but i did use the maui and it didn't work for my hair but i like how it looks on yours. your curls are gorgeous!
I'm #TeamMaui because it seems more defined and slightly more shiny. Maui would give my hair more days of wear if that's how Day 1 hair looks. I find that more volume on Day 1 will decrease the number of days I can get out of my wash n go.
@@mommymilkers6978 Thank you. I am thinking about leaving Shea Moisture. I want to sell my products and use the money to switch to Maui after I figure out which ones to buy.
I find that the shea moisture curling enhancing smoothie looks good on the first day, but dries my hair out over the week, while the maui one gives me more hold and i get more days out of my wash n go
Shea is heavier and creamier... It will dry out hair that can't handle that much moistyrizing-oil... You know what I mean? Like certain hair types can handle certain amounts of oil. You could be using too much of the cream.. or the cream isn't right for your hair type. :) You have to find a cream that doesn't cancel out your own natural hair oil, because your scalp could decrease in producing oil when you use a heavy moisturizing cream.
That’s what I’ve noticed as well!! I start to get some build up and dryness after a few days with Shea. I don’t know if they changed the formula, because I don’t remember it doing that before🤨
@@teeniejuicy Yes, they have changed the formula. When I first got it, it was Shea Butter as it primary ingredient after water. Now, it is Coconut Oil. They have done Vegetable Oil also. I have all three containers that I keep bird food in. My hair likes the Shea Butter but not the Coconut Oil. My hair gets dried out and breaks off as well with the Coconut Oil formula.
Good to know, Tiffany. Shea Moisture does the same thing to me also since they are using the Coconut Oil in place of the Shea Butter. I think my hair cannot handle protein and coconut oil together! overwhelming!
wow I actually tried the maui on Tuesday and IT WAS THE BEST MOISTURIZER I HAVE EVER USED...I literally didn't know my hair could be so silky and juicy and soft...curl smoothie is good but this totally way better and cheaper. lol I'm never buying the curl smoothie again
I think the reason the Shea moisture side is "bigger" is because as you stated your hair completely dry. The Maui side looks more moisturized in my opinion. I have SM products and think they've changed their formula over the years or aren't using as high of quality bc their stylers dry my hair out. Like you said it comes down to a matter of preference.
Yes Ive heard Shea Moisture will be making more changes in the future... That makes me sad but maybe Maui might be the new poppin brand at the drugstore...
Leximarcellaa I love Maui moisture, even more than shea moisture, I have been using it since it first came out and nobody knew anything about it, and it works better on my 3a/3b curls, and it smells better too! ❤️❤️❤️
NaturallyJennRose21 I wish people would stop saying they changed the formula when they released the formula with a statement weeks ago. 🙄 They added more lines. They didn't change anything.
NaturallyJennRose21 I thought I was the only one I stopped buying their shampoo because I thought it had gotten more watery and I had to use so much just to get it to lather up
Dantae Johnson no they really did when walgreens had a sale maybe two years ago buy one get one free I went to every walgreens I could and bought them all so I had enough to literally last two years and when I had to buy more back in September I thought the bottle that I bought must have been a dud because it was more watery than before so I took it back and bought another one and it was the same thing I went back to the as I am shampoo but still use their smoothie and curling gel
i do see a slight difference but considering one is literally half the price of the other i don't think that tiny bit of volume is going to make that decision, i'll definitely be reaching for the maui when i run out of the smoothie in the future
#teammaui the Shea moisture size is pretty as well. personally, I'd use both products. Shea moisture on the "I want less defined curls" days, and Maui for when I want a more "defined" curl. tfs
The shea moisture side definitely has more volume and the shea moisture curls are poppin a little more. I liked that side better. The Maui side may be better if you separated the curls afterward. Loved this super helpful. I never heard of Maui. Im going to try it. I think since it has a lot of hold, it would work well for type 4 hair. TFS!
Hey Asea! Yes id still totally recommend it! Like i said ill still be using it in the future. Cuhhz for the price it works well! Id love to see what it would do on your hair type. That's why I did this video. Just to present the information and let the viewer make their own opinion.
Maui has better definition and hold but if you picked it, the volume would be there. Shea is lighter and fluffier but you can tell the hold isn't as strong especially on the outer part. I like the Shea side but after 2 days I think the definition would turn crazy frizzy, on me at least.
@Kj always I use coconut oil shampoo from equate (Walmart) and Argan oil conditoner equate (also Walmart) and I get big curls, while it also hydrates my hair.
I used the shea moisture curl milk for years and switched to the Maui moisture heal and hydrate leave in. I love how moisturizing it is and Ulta always has it BOGO 50%. The milk never moisturized my hair enough so I ended up switching to that whole line like 8 months ago and have never turned back.
I liked the volume of the shea moisture but I'd have to go with Maui because the definition hold. I need my hair to last. With the CES it didn't last. I prefer definition and hold and less frizz in the beginning, and my volume comes day 3 and Max's out at day 3. And I won't have frizz til 5 or 6. Thanks for the review! I've been eyeing Maui! I think I want to try it now 🤗
I love Maui's ingredients list & the fact that it is Vegan. I tried the Moisture Conditioner but I have not liked it at all for a Conditioner because the slip isn't very good for detangling since it's so natural. I think it might be a better leave-in but I'll have to try the smoothies & see how I feel.
They both look great. I would go with Maui due to price and then I know that my hair will grow as the days go on so the lack of volume isn't a concern. You have beautiful hair btw.
I used both products and my opinion is Shea Moisture left my hair very tangle and flakes. I also notice that my hair was dry was Shea within a couple of days. The Maui didn't tangle my hair, I haven't seen flakes and my hair stays moist. I understand by being nature I need to spray my hair daily. But the first ingredient in Shea is "water" so I am paying $14.00 for water. Where the first ingredient in Maui (the one I use) is Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice and I am paying $6.50 for this product. I love this product and my hair loves it as well. Also, I think Maui is much thicker than Shea. I am glad that I made the change.
Both of the sides are beautiful, personaly for my hair I think I'd prefer the maui moisture because of the hold and the definition, my hair has natural volume, and it's kind of on the shorter side, so I'm definetly looking for hold..
Ive tried this maui product and its honestly soo good! Though you have to make sure you massage with oil and after washes should be dried with a diffuser.
Ive tried both im 100% team maui, i LOVE IT! Its the perfect curl smoothie, I find it soaks into my hair better leaving less build up while the shea moisture just sits
I am rocking with #TeamMaui because it seems more moisturized and less frizzy. Plus it may last longer because of this. The curls look similar to me, but shea moisture definitely has more volume! They both look great by the way!
To get longer wear I would do Maui. Yours look good puffy, I have 3c 4a hair cottony type medium full hair,I like mine to be weigh down as long as possible to give me more days. I use a gel with my curl enhancing smoothie to lock in the moisture.
Maui did tend to be more "oily" in my hair, but I thought about diluting it with water and not using it with my other products as I feel like it works well by itself. There is another product from Walmart that I like to use and it's the Eden Bodyworks Coconut Shea all natural curl defining cream (about $8) it's wonderful. I even diluted it to half and it works beautifully and has lasted me months! My other favorite is the Ogyx Kukui Oil curl cream
thank you so much for making this video. sheamoisutre has been my go too because it's affordable and it ha worked for my curls. but since this new brand has come out, I've wanted to try it. your curls look beautiful on both sides.
Thanks for shaping us, in my country only sell Mau Mousture, the price is expensive for me but I wanted try it, now I saw that is a good product. I gonna try it.
I actually really like the Maui side. Mostly because after a few days it will likely look like the shea moisture side. So basically you would get more wear out of the Maui side. But that's my personal preference 😁 both are beautiful
I like the maui side for me. I like my hair defined so my wash and go can last longer. I can always scrunch it out a bit to release some of the hold. I don't like the Shea moisture one bc it is too heavy of a cream for my hair. I am so happy you did this video. Thanks because I love finding new hair products. So for me Team Maui. Now I have to go out and buy it!
I have probably 3b or c hair and have been using the Maui moisture smoothie as just a styler and pairing it with a gel and I absolutely love it. I do have a little finer hair so I have to watch the amount I use or it’ll be weighed down but it’s awesome.
havent tried maui products BUT i absolutely love shea moisture- i have their jamaican black castor oil shampoo, their conditioner, manuka honey mask, and curl enhancing smoothie. another really good product similar to the curl enhancing smoothie is the jane carter solution "curl defining cream", its a lil more expensive by a couple dollars but it doesnt weigh the hair down at all and every curl is frizz-free, soft, bouncy, and defined!!!
Since the Maui side was not fully dry, I am unable to offer an opinion since I know my hair gets fuller as it dries. I've never heard of the Maui products. However, I have staple brands (Ouidad, DevaCurl & Kinky-Curly) from which I don't deviate. My hair HATES all oils except jojoba, argan and castor. Of course, all of the cheaper products have coconut oil since that is supposed to be great for curly and kinky hair and now all the brands want to add. Ugh. Enjoyed your video.
I actually have fine hair, medium density hair but I love the Shea Moisture Smoothie better. It just moisturizes my hair better. My curls are hella tight and I have mid back length hair. Shrinkage is real. Thanks for the review.
I personally love the shea moisture side because I love the volume!!! I can see a difference in the curl on each side, but still love the curl and volume w/the shea!
I never use SM curl enhanced smoothie. I don't have that type of curl pattern. I use their other products that are for heat treated hair and my hair is responding well. I will be continuing to use SM products despite the backlash from the commercial. Your hair looks gorgeous and I hope to have long natural hair one day.
Wanderlust, My Way Mmmhm. Shoot, for half the price of SM, I'd go all in on Maui. If you need more volume, fluff/tease/pick it out and save your coin. I have a MM-using Latina friend with 3a/b curls and she loves it.
Lovely curly locs!!! I can't wait to try the Maui. It's hard to find a product that's moisturized and it elongates your curls. Although I prefer volume or definition. I believe Maui has better ingredients and the price point is on POINT. Thanks for the demo/review. XO!
I like the Maui moisture side - but I like that product better. .... I actually really hate curl enhancing smoothing 🤷♀️🤦♀️ lol I'm probably the outkast I know but I didn't like the smell or the way it made my hair look/feel lol but my hair already coils so I guess since Maui moisture doesn't coil it up as much as the shea moisture does that might be why I like it better 🤷♀️ your hair is goals regardless lol
I thought i was gonna be the oddball out but i'm glad someone agrees. I tried Maui once and never went back to Shea. I love the smell of it over Shea and the fact that my curls look shinier, feel smoother and last longer.
I don't like the curling smoothie either. I find the texture to be too gritty and it does nothing to define my curls. Also for me there's a balancing act I have to do with the amount otherwise my hair looks weighed down and nasty. I only ever use it as a base underneath eco-styler gel for braid outs. I want to try the Maui Moisture now..:D
heywaitMarlee SM makes my curls feel like sandpaper. I've tried it different occasions and it never works for my hair. I recently tried maui & my hair loves it.
They both look really good. I feel it really depends on the look your going for. I would go for the Maui just because I need a lot of hold due to my frizz problem.
I go with Maui mostly just because the Shea Moisture scents seem overpowering (extremely) and very artificial, whereas Maui seems more natural and is not as overpowering and persistent (doesn't stop you from sleeping due to smelling so strong - Shea Moisture really needs to look at this).
Maui is light and gives my hair a silky shine, though it takes a long time to dry.. I don't like that because my head started to feel itchy. If I put Maui on my hair while it's dry my hair still fluffs and I see my curls aren't as defined vs when it was applied to damped and combed out hair. Because Maui takes time to dry it won't give that volume I like but when my hair is completely dry I see some loose hairs and almost a frizzy look. My hair feels soft with Maui. And I doesn't even feel oily or any residue on my hands after touching my hair. Shea was heavier and creamier and kept my curls together on dry hair and looked exactly the same on damp hair. And it dried a lot faster and my scalp didn't feel itchy. With shea there was more residue on my forehead and pillows when sleeping. I have to wash my hands after applying shea or cantu. I usually have a night cap , but it's just info out there that Maui didn't have a heavy oil like shea has. I honestly prefer cantu coconut curling cream because it's cheaper than Shea and gives me what I need. But I wouldn't put it on my kids hair. I'd definitely use Maui for my kids because of their thin bi racial hair and how light Maui is. Shea is heavier and it attracts more dirt than Maui did. If you happen to rub your eyes with Shea on your hands haha oh no look out cuz that will burn! And make your eyes watery and it burns more! Also maui washes out more easily!! Shea actually stays in my hair after two washes.. so I don't need to apply Shea as often as I had to with maui. And.. if I wanted to put my hair in a bun. Shea will twist my hair in the style of the bun(banana curl) when I take my bun out. Maui doesn't do that! Of course that's with my type of hair. I can twist it and put hair gel in it and it will hold! With Maui I can take a bun down and my hair wouldn't want to revert back to twists. Hope all this helps!
I bought the maui product about a month ago and I haven't used it yet but this video really helped me since I have never out it in my hair so I'm looking forward to using it so thank youuu😘
I tried out Sheamoisture back in 2021 and shortly tried Maui in that same year. I definitely get what you mean about Shea. My hair also gets nice volume with any of Sheamoisture's products but looks/feels weighed down with Maui. My hair was the same way with OGX but I feel like it was because of their oils. Even OGX's cream leave ins would slightly weigh down my hair, the same way that Maui does. I use the same Maui curl quench leave in and maybe its because of the coconut oil from the product that causes weigh down but I'm not sure. I definitely prefer Sheamoisture over Maui but you can't go wrong with either. They both have great ingredients and are so much better than the generic mens 10 in 1 body washes I used years ago haha.
Haven't tried either yet but I agree w your opinion. Exactly what I was thinking. Both sides are pretty in their own ways. But I'll be trying Maui because it looks more uniform & a little tighter which is what I need. Im Latina and its like I have in between hair patterns lol i have like the tightest waves or loosest curls. It really depends on the day and my hair moisture. My hair can go either way so I need a routine asap to have more consistent pattern. Imma try to maintain loose curls from now on. Going to adopt Maui
Love the smoothie (coconut hibiscus shea) and about to try it instead of Olaplex or plain coconut oil as a protectant to lighten my hair - we'll see how it works!
Volume means more frizz and dryness over the course of the week. I'd rather start off with moisture and non definition and allow it to do its thing over time. Shea moisture really isn't worth the money. That nor Miss Jessie's. Too much hype which then feeds into people's biases.
I absolutely love watching your videos! My oldest daughter is mixed and her hair is sometimes difficult to take care of. I've got through sooo much hair products to see what would work and what wouldn't. I'd really like to see a video of how you do a wash and go. Your hair is absolutely beautiful and you honestly really help me with these videos!
Ashley Donaldson Mixing water and aloe vera juice in a spray bottle is a God-Send! Also try Kinky-Curly Knot Today detangler. It's light, but moisturizing.
Yes I plan on making an updated wash a go routine! Im so happy I would be of help. I was a real learning curve for my mom as well when I was younger. Shes Mexican and her hair is thick but wavy.
Anaiah-Zaccai Wilson thank you so much! I'm definitely going to be looking into that. She's got a really bad dry patch and I need to keep it moisturized but that area just seems to soak it all up and stay dry.
Leximarcellaa lol it's definitely a learning experience that's for sure. It's nice to see others with her hair type and all the products used. We're currently using cantu and it's really helped. I'm just looking for good ways to keep moisture in her hair without washing it every other day because I was told it's bad to wash it so much. Thank you again.
Love your curls I just cut off my Damage ends from bleaching services in 2020. I’m wanting starting the year with healthy curly hair to encourage hair growth. Can you use these as a leave in?. I been looking for a good leave in that color safe
These both are products that look really interesting! I have only used the Shea Moisture: Curl enhancing smoothie but I will try the Maui Moisture soon! Loved this video, you have the prettiest of curls!
I like this video a lot! New subbie here! I like both. On my hair, which is 3c/4a-b range, I prefer the structure over voluminous big curls because it tends to last longer, but I do like the Shea side too.
Maui shook me. I have kinky coily hair and didn't think it'd define it as good as it actually did. Like its so good I'm pretty sure I can survive a wash n go without a gel, but just use that. I use a little bit of gel to hold longer. Other than that Maui is so good
I like the Maui side because after a few days the Maui side will get bigger where the shea side will need to be redone sooner. My hair needs the definition so Maui would work for me. Thanks. Video was helpful
I personally think the Maui moisture side is better because with the increase in hold your hair will last longer through the duration of your style and you won’t have to restyle and wash your hair again for a longer period of Time and over the days of your wash n’ go your hair will get more and more voluminous
I may try the shea moisture curl enhancing smoothie again since I now know how to use cream stylers. I don't care about frizz because my hair is a little on the fine side. If I use gel then my hair gets flat and piecey. So I'm liking the fuller look.
I keep watching these comparison videos bc I can't decide which one I like better! Lol. Leaning towards Maui a liiiiitle bit because of the weight of the cream itself. Both sides of your hair look gorgeous, but the Shea def gave more volume.
Hey Lexi! I love your videos. Could you compare the curl enhancing smoothie with the Jamaican black castor oil curl enhancing smoothie by she's moisture??
When I first used the Shea enhancing smoothie it left my hair with a ton of flakes. I tried a second time ,this time my hair being a bit more wet it worked really good. It enhanced my curls and defiantly holded my hair in place
I really enjoyed testing these products out! Be sure to let me know what side your on below #TeamShea or #TeamMaui.

Two curly RUclipsrs I would recommend that show lots of different products that might work for you are BiancaReneeToday or Franchelli Rodriguez
Anonymous N these two are my fav alsooo
I am rocking with #TeamMaui because it seems more moisturized and less frizzy. Plus it may last longer because of this. The curls look similar to me, but shea moisture definitely has more volume! They both look great by the way!
Your hair is so beautiful. Me personally I like the side with less volume but everyone has their own preference.
I wish my hair was that easy to do! But I love Maui side because you will be able to rock it for a long time before the frizz attacks! :) Great video.
I'm definately #teammaui I love this curl smoothie !!!! 😉
I really like how the Shea Moisture came out! I have curly hair too and am hands down team shea!!
thank you so much for making this video. sheamoisutre has been my go too because it's affordable and it ha worked for my curls. but since this new brand has come out, I've wanted to try it. your curls look beautiful on both sides.
awwe your welcome!
Thanks for shaping us, in my country only sell Mau Mousture, the price is expensive for me but I wanted try it, now I saw that is a good product. I gonna try it.
Depends on what look you're going for. I like both.
+Jasmine t I agree 😊
Shea moisture makes my hair dry, Maui has formaldhyde releasers in the ingredients list
MAUIS DEEP CONDITIONER IS SOOOOO BOMB #teammaui
Both sides look really good. I haven't tried the Maui Moisture yet. I love Shea Moisture though...my hair does... Thanks for your video.
Great video! I have a question, do you know if it’s okay to mix between Shea moisture and Maui products ?
My fave is the Shea moisture side but both look beautiful 😍
I actually have fine hair, medium density hair but I love the Shea Moisture Smoothie better. It just moisturizes my hair better. My curls are hella tight and I have mid back length hair. Shrinkage is real. Thanks for the review.
I personally love the shea moisture side because I love the volume!!! I can see a difference in the curl on each side, but still love the curl and volume w/the shea!
You're so smart. I haven't seen any videos like this!!! I watch ever single curly girl on youtube!!!!
thank you so much!!!
Actually just purchased Maui Moisturizer Products yesterday for my waves. I'll be using it for a month and giving my review.
360 Ignant where it at though
I never use SM curl enhanced smoothie. I don't have that type of curl pattern. I use their other products that are for heat treated hair and my hair is responding well. I will be continuing to use SM products despite the backlash from the commercial. Your hair looks gorgeous and I hope to have long natural hair one day.
I love the look of the shea moisture side but at half the price Maui looks just fine to me
Wanderlust, My Way Mmmhm.
I don't like it either glad I'm not alone
I literally hate the curl enhancing smoothie. I hate the smell so much. Like I would rather not put product in my hair than use that.
I absolutely enjoy watching you do your hair, you are one of many people that inspire me to do more with my hair.
happy to inspire!
Thanks for this! I've been thinking about trying the Maui products
Your welcome!!
I just started using Maui on my 4c hair and I have very thick and dry hair it makes it so soft and manageable it's also vegan and organic
so happy you found products that work!
I like shea moisture because it works well with my thick hair and really helps with my wash days.
Thank you again.
your hair is absolutely gorgeous!!😻😻
Your hair is beautiful! Ugh, I’m jealous
Love your curls I just cut off my Damage ends from bleaching services in 2020. I’m wanting starting the year with healthy curly hair to encourage hair growth. Can you use these as a leave in?. I been looking for a good leave in that color safe
You shroud compare the As I Am: Double Butter Cream or As I Am: Curling Jelly (whichever one) to the Shea Moisture: Curl Enhancing Smoothie!
Your hair is so BEAUTIFUL ❤️❤️ love the shea moisture side
I like both products. I was skeptical of Maui because I was accustomed to Shea Moisture. I bought the bamboo fibers from Maui and love it!
I'm #TeamMaui. I love these comparison videos btw
These both are products that look really interesting! I have only used the Shea Moisture: Curl enhancing smoothie but I will try the Maui Moisture soon! Loved this video, you have the prettiest of curls!
I like this video a lot! New subbie here! I like both. On my hair, which is 3c/4a-b range, I prefer the structure over voluminous big curls because it tends to last longer, but I do like the Shea side too.
hi welcome!!
you're hair is so BEAUTIFUL 😍😭
thank you!
Woah her hair is beautiful as is she!
They are both really pretty
The Shea moisture side is much fuller! Your curls are amazing :)
this is my first time seeing one of your videos and girl your hair is so beautiful!!
Team Maui looks like the winner to me!
Absolutely phenomenal gorgeous curls. Amazing
Shea moistures side had the volume poppin!! But both sides look pretty nice and defined!!
I want to try the Shea Moisture one. I love the Maui Moisture one
I keep watching these comparison videos bc I can't decide which one I like better! Lol. Leaning towards Maui a liiiiitle bit because of the weight of the cream itself. Both sides of your hair look gorgeous, but the Shea def gave more volume.
I like the way the Shea Moisture looks better.
your hair is gorgeous!! 😍
I have fine hair, but it's very dense. Kind of wish the smoothie had a little more slip, but it's very moisturizing.
Hey Lexi! I love your videos. Could you compare the curl enhancing smoothie with the Jamaican black castor oil curl enhancing smoothie by she's moisture??
i was searching for a video like this and omg i found it and now im subscribing to your channel🙈😭😍
I've yet to find anything that I love more than Shea Moisture, but I really want to try the Maui smoothie.
When I first used the Shea enhancing smoothie it left my hair with a ton of flakes. I tried a second time ,this time my hair being a bit more wet it worked really good. It enhanced my curls and defiantly holded my hair in place
so happy youve fallen in love!
