- Saturn Aura 2007-2010 2.4L XE and XR. also applies to 3.5L and 3.6L. Also Chevrolet Malibu and Pontiac G6 can follow these instructions as well. These cars are equipped with a lifetime transmission filter. only time you would change it out is when you open up the transmission.
Use Dexron VI Transmission Fluid.

Nice video thankyou
Hello . What about the Aura XE 4 cylinder with 4 Speed Auto ?
How do you check & change fluid ? What is different there ? Thanks-WM
The fluid on that model is changed by taking off the pan which in on the bottom and you can also remove the filter on that model as well. to check the oil level, you need to follow my other video on the saturn aura transmission fluid because it does not have a dipstick as well. The capacity for pan removal and filter replacement is 6.9 Quarts. ( this is according to alldata)
Laketown Auto Repair Hey I appreciate the info. I figured it out yesterday was also looking at my 08 G5 They share the same engine and transmission. And actually under normal driving conditions they don't even recommend full service on the trans till 150 K miles or more ..
thanks again. ..good info. and tutorial videos !!
Instead of draining and refilling, should this 6 speed transmission be flushed to replace all the old fluid with fresh fluid?
Never flush, always drain and fill only.
Why do you say that the filter is a lifetime filter when the owners manual specifically says that it should be changed at 100,000 miles ?
I've got an 08 Aura.
The transmission has to be taken apart for the filter to be changed
The 6 spd does not have a servicable filter.
Looked at several of these and it is over complicated, it's like Opel is designing the car for some gear head in the 60s. Then looked at my 08 Astra, very standard setup with a bottom drain and dip stick fill and check. GM probably insisted a few simple changes be made before they sold many Opels in the US.
what year is this? i have a 2009. is this the 6 speed transmission??
This is a 2009 6 speed transmission.
approximately how long did it take to drain? if you remember.
and thank you for making this video. only one i can find that isn't 3.6l
I believe i took about 45 minutes.
Seems like we’re the few remaining owners of this type of vehicle. Mine has over 203000 miles on it. Full synthetic oil changes every 5k. Done 2 transmission fluid changes also. Every vehicle should be designed with a drain plug. But car manufacturers don’t like the fact that anyone can do a simple drain n change.
This isn't the same as the 3.6 by the way.
No it's a 3.5 why would it be the same on a different transmission? 3.5 is 4spd, 3.6 is a terribly unreliable 6spd.
@@whatisdoneinthedarkwillbeb9204 Yeah. That's what I said. Its not the same. Besides. I have a 3.6 with 184k and the 6spd has been rock solid
@@EGGINFOOLS the car is supposed to last 270k or so. I have one with a solid 4spd at 105k and an Acura with 269k and never even changed the fluid. My point was the comment was irrelevant to this video.
Not the same as my 3.5 Xe
3.5 xe takes 9 quarts I did mines a few months ago im doing it again this week I got a little leak cause I didn’t use sealant
