I have a coolant leak in my 08 Aura with this same motor. I bought a thermostat and gasket as I figured I would replace it while trying to locate the leak. So grateful for your video, immense help.
Thank you for this in depth breakdown (Wish you covered things like torque specs for those without service manuals but the camera quality more than make up for it.) Have an 09 G6 GXP and its near impossible to find this exact engine trim without looking for Auras, Malibu's or some other variants.
Is there anyway you can post the clips of you actually changing the resivour? Like taking it out and taking off the tubes I have the exact same change and need to change my resivour but can’t find a video anywhere please help me !!!
They decided not to continue with repairs... But it's a car dealers brother that owned it. They're understandable that's they brought a project car, I service allot of his cars that his other mechanic can't, no big deal, I just get the head starters😆
I can't get the new thermostat back in. Gasket is slightly too big to fit in one side or the other. (Correct part number and stuff). Can't believe no one else has this problem. Bumper and headlights and radiator is out of the way and even oiled the gasket...
Are you reusing the old gasket? If yes, they swell up and should be replace. If not, make sure you have the appropriate part. Some stores have inventory issues. I had this happen yesterday literally. Someone put the wrong part in a new box. Make sure your surfaces are clean... See if the gasket is indicated
Thanks for the reply. It's all new and cleaned with a wire toothbrush and wiped. I just ended up putting a little grease on it and bolting it in anyway. I'll see if it'll leak....
@@partsshooter you say 1k for this 1k for that lol we do those jobs every other week you gotta be charging extra for labor but I can’t tell you how to price your own work you know your quality 💯
@@dotie81 Pretty sure that was in reference to catalytic replacement and transmission work. I know any transmission work is well over 1k, not sure on the cat. @partsshooter, think they are talking about 22:15

Glad I saw this video! That goes to show what us technicians find and go thru with shady vehicles and their owners.
those auction cars are jumping from dealership to dealership. (whole sale)

Thank you so much for this video, I truly needed it!!
That stuff in the hoses and reservoir might be head gasket sealant. An improper use of it can cause it to gunk up the whole cooling system.
How did you get the fluid back in the radiator when you filled it back up
You are always great at your work daddy
Looks like calcium from hard water. Use distilled water for coolant system...
Curious to know what that stuff was/is. Hope the customer is reasonable, considering its an Auction car. Keep it up !!
