    I've recently been diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism/Graves Disease and I've been on the AIP diet for about a week and I notice that I can't have carrots even though it's approved but it causes me joint pain, numbness and burning sensation in my hands. I never realized that carrots were so sweet.

      Interesting! That may not be a permanent thing - just might be until you heal your gut some more and then you may be able to tolerate them just fine. But it's a great thing to know!

    Also, my doc told me long time ago that I will figure out 'nothing taste as good as feeling great feels' and eventually I will not desire things that make me feel bad. Life gets in the way, and eventually a person will start gradually putting bad foods back in and before you know it, feeling like crap again is an everyday thing.

    • @MicheleSpring
      @MicheleSpring  6 лет назад +1

      Ha, yes to all of this. Yes, you will figure out that nothing will taste as good as feeling great feels, but sometimes feeling great isn't a priority. That's when it gets dicey. Then your body screams and you realize you need to make it a priority again, and you go in kicking yourself that you let it get to that point. Think it's pretty normal though. As long as you get back to that point of feeling great again and don't let it turn into some deadly chronic disease I think you're good. (my opinion though)

    Immersion blender for the win! I make mayo with it too...indispensable.

      Freakin love that thing. I don't know what I'd do without it. We kept our old one when we got a new one just in case something happens to the new one so that we aren't stuck without one for any period of time, ha!

    Yayyyy! You're feeling great! So exciting and inspiring! Such great great tips and advice in each video. Also, talking about the break downs, always good to know we are never alone. How is Oso doing?

    • @MicheleSpring
      @MicheleSpring  6 лет назад +1

      Thanks Becky :-) And Oso's doing well (I think). The ulcers are 99% gone in his eyes and the swelling is going down, so hopefully when I take him up to the opthamology dept at CSU next week they'll say he looks good. I need to do a vlog on that too "How I cured my dog's autoimmune disease", haha :-) (I'm actually serious about doing a vlog on that)

    Your food looks so delish!!!! I myself am transitioning into a Paleo based based in hopes to reach the AIP Diet plan so that I can figure out where my dermatitis if coming from as I seem to think its diet/lifestyle based... So inspiring seeing people like yourself. Thank you for posting.

    Does it matter which animal you get your liver from? We raise chickens and meat rabbits, I'm just wondering if I could utilize those livers rather than buying beef liver because 1.I hate it 2. I'm not raising it so it's not iffy

    Hi! I love your AIP videos! I started a couple weeks ago after a bad hashimoto's flare up and they've helped so much. I was wondering if you've heard of black cumin seeds as a remedy for hashimotos?

    • @MicheleSpring
      @MicheleSpring  5 лет назад +2

      Hey Natalie! So I've heard of black cumin seeds as being helpful for some conditions, but not sure if I've heard it directly in relation to Hashi's. I'd be a little skeptical though as these things rarely are the be-all-end-all that people make them out to be. And a lot of times these "superfoods", etc may be helpful for the general population but not necessarily us with autoimmune disease as we've got another whole set of problems going on that some of the superfoods actually exacerbate. Like elderberry for example - great for putting the immune system on high alert to prevent colds yet when your immune system attacks itself, you don't want it to be on high alert. You want it to be calm, not on the attack, so that it can discern between a cold and a piece of bread. So I always take these types of foods with a grain of salt. Not saying it's NOT helpful, but I'm wary. Guilty until proven innocent kind of thing :-)

    I am surprised that deli meats (even one without nitrites and such) are allowed, like prosciutto because of the molds. Did I miss something? Maybe I am thinking more along the lines of an allergy elimination diet, which I did years ago. On that I was allowed to eat any spice or herbs, as well as white rice from the beginning. I had to introduce ocean caught seafood first, then meats one at a time. This (AIP) actually seem less restrictive, believe it or not!!

    • @MicheleSpring
      @MicheleSpring  6 лет назад +1

      There are so many protocols out there, each with their own reasons for why they eliminate things. Dr. Sarah hasn't said anything against the deli meats other than to not get the ones with the spices/preservatives we can't have. Probably more because there hasn't been any scientific literature against the molds in terms of autoimmune disease? (just taking a guess there). It might affect you more if you have something like a yeast infection or SIBO or something, so it's definitely something to keep in mind if you aren't getting better after 90 days on the strict elimination portion of the diet. And yeah, it's interesting when you've been on a few of these diets how some seem easier than others in some ways. They all have their quirks :-)

      The spices are what I am having a hard time wrapping my head around. Those are the first phase, correct? That is at least ten spices to try one at a time and one every 3 to 4 days, then green beans and peas. (I am gonna be really mad if I can't have green beans or peas! not joking) That is going to take a LONG time! So, being celiac and having Graves disease, I know that gluten containing grains and dairy are out (have been for over 15 years) and I think eggs are not good for me unless they are baked into something or cooked to death. I'm curious, how long did it take you to do the re-introduction phase last time you did this?

    • @cassieb1860
      @cassieb1860 6 лет назад +1

      The allergist that helped me identify food sensitivites over 15 years ago warned me of food additives as well as the molds in processed foods/meats. Apparently our lovely watchers in the FDA allow a bunch of food additives that aren't necessarily printed on the packages. I can eat a processed meat labeled G/F and still have joint swelling, facial swelling and rashes. So for me personally, I know that I can't eat those without some kind of negative reactions over the next day or two.

    • @MicheleSpring
      @MicheleSpring  6 лет назад +1

      So no, you don't need to reintroduce EVERY spice before moving onto the next stage. It's usually recommended that you try a few of each area (so like a few seed-based spices, a few fruit/berry spices, a few legumes with edible pods, a few oils, etc) and if you have no negative reactions, then it's ok to move onto stage 2. If you have several reactions to things, then it's an indication that you aren't ready to move on yet and in fact, should probably go back to the full elimination diet for a few more weeks. (Just one reaction would mean: take that particular thing out and try again in a few weeks, but if it's a seed spice, for example, try other seed spices to see if you react to those). Hopefully this makes sense. And as for how long it took last time - it took several months for the majority of things (I was even able to introduce nightshades and white rice) but it took almost the full year from when I had started before I could have paprika. I was eating a full diet of coffee, nightshades, rice, and ghee before I could successfully eat paprika. (I didn't try full dairy during this time because my functional medicine practioner didn't want me to due to the cross-reaction from gluten and casein and me testing to reacting to casein)

      so interesting! That's great to know, and so good that you know it causes you issues. Have you tried making your own deli meats? There was a time I did that but am lazy now, haha :-)
