It's weird that DC stopped their Action Comics run at 904. They were so close to 1000 straight issues. I know we got they continued the numbering including the New52 era, but they were so close to 1000 straight issues.

I remember buying Wolverine Vol. 1 #1 ($4.99!) when it came out back in the day and I remember my best mate (huge comic fan) at the time telling me "he's cool but no ones collecting him, you should get a Spidey or X-men or the greatest - Superman."

Venom graded going for 900$ or more i think and i got both those xmen comics number 1 issue there the same story diffrent covers..plus i got 2 of the collector ones they put out again same story collectors edition cover tho

I was able to get my hands on the spectacular Spider-man 1 for 20$ and the gold version of Spider-man 1990 #1 for 30$. Thanks for the suggestions! I'm also loving 1970's era comics, I love the art style. I tried to find a copy of Black Panther 1 but its hard to get under 300$ now since the first trailer has been out for a bit.
I would also suggest Ms. Marvel 1, Spider-woman 1 and for newer stuff, there's Batwoman Rebirth 1 (Since this reboot is doing so well the issues from the new 52 have also gone up in price) and of course the All-New Wolverine 1.

Dante Benedict nice, if you slab it you could definitely fetch a high price for it, if you don't want to keep it of course. I'm sure if the movies a hit it will go up exponentially. I got them on eBay from a Canadian seller, theres nothing here locally we have one comic book shop and they only sell recent stuff.
My experience is similar to yours! We have about 3 shops in my area. Two of them have really great stuff and are constantly buying back issues from a variety of eras but I find them always to be outrageously over-priced. I do what you do and try my luck on eBay. As for my BP #1 I don't think I can see myself getting rid of it, or any of my books for that matter. I'm too attached to them lol

Btw action comics is still conisdered to be in volume 1 . It is now at around issue 987 i believe. But great books man, i am gonna get some mod them.

I am new to collecting comics. As far as price guides go and what you actually can get pricewise when you go to sell comics, is it pretty accurate as to the actual price you get? I remember when I collected baseball cards and I went to the baseball park shop to sell them, they would not give me anywhere near what the book value was. Is that true with comics also? I do not want to get into collecting comics if it's actually not something you can make money on in the real world. What do you think? Also, I do not want to start collecting comics that I would keep for 20 years and they would not increase in value. Also, when you go to read a comic, how much do you actually affect its grade? I understand you need to be careful, but even opening a comic probably does something to the grade. Do I need to buy one comic to read, or read it online, and then collect comics that are in wonderful condition or slabbed to keep for an investment, never touching it?
Hi there! Thanks for watching and commenting! I definitely would not recommend getting in to comic collecting for profit. The experience you had with baseball cards is exactly the same with comics. You can make money with comics, but you have to be willing to put down a lot of cash initially and splurge on comics like Avengers #1, Amazing Fantasy #15 and other Golden and Silver Age key issues (slabbed ones). Reading can effect grade, however beware because books you get right off the shelf more often than not are not in mint condition. If you are very concerned about condition, I definitely would recommend reading online or investing in a lower grade "reader" copy. I hope this helps! Let me know if you need anything else! FYI, I only started with comics at DC Rebirth, I'm 45 and first time I ever heard of comic collecting. Better late than never I suppose.
My prize collection is I have every Rebirth issue & its B cover and every issue #1 and its B cover.

Let me tell you, you just opened Pandora's box lol I started collecting seriously 6 years ago with DC's New 52 relaunch. I initially only started with the new 52 but then branched out to comics from other eras. Now I'm stuck in the 70s and am trying to get as many Bronze Age books as possible. Happy collecting to you!
Hey there, sorry to hear that you stopped collecting. Those reasons you gave me are super solid reasons and to tell you the truth the reasons you gave are reasons why I don't buy new comics anymore. I haven't purchased a new comic from a comic shop in over a year now. They are too expensive and I was finding there was no guarantee I was going to like what I bought. I felt robbed on more than 1 occasion lol That is why now I just get key issues from the past that I really want, or buy old "filler" issues of titles I like in cheaper lots. I'm only getting what I like now and I'm not regretting anything lol Thanks again for commenting!
