That story is so frustrating. I work with those machines- like as a job.
They are not toys. You are supposed to be extremely cautious when approaching one of them , making sure others are aware of where you are and never moving the boom (the arm) of the machine towards other people. Stupid, frustrating.

Normalize men also needing time to heal from toxic friendships. Another sense of toxic masculinity is not allowing young men time to understand and feel their feeling. I feel like their 24 hour energy cycle and lack of any type of natural biological mental or physical setback, like a monthly menstrual cycle, really doesn't allow for much down time for men, we have a whole month to cycle through our emotions, our bodies require our attention, the only time they take a time out is when they're forced to with illness or injury, and it often drives them "crazy", having to sit still for so long. Not working kills some men. They really have no idea how to just give in. Taking time out to heal from emotional trauma is definitely just as necessary, but how to convince them of this is another issue altogether.

Masculinity is not a man-made quality, it is a natural attribute and as such it cannot be negative or positive, toxic or not toxic. Same as femininity, or a hand, a leg etc. If someone kicks you that doesn't mean legs are toxic.
Your feminism, which by the way is a very masculine dogma, is confused in so many different ways, the most fundamental of which is the denial of the role natural programming plays in societies. We humans are biological species obeying ancient biological rules that predate humans. "Social conditioning" is not the fundamental builder of our societies.

Side note: I don't fully agree that digging up past videos or information to show a pattern of behaviour is necessarily a bad thing because it can provide better context. For example, historically people who are bullied or deal with some form passive aggressive bias for prolonged periods are seen as crazy when they finally "snap" and its important to show why the momentary lapse in judgment happened. It does not give their actions any justification but it helps provide perspective. Granted of course it isn't used as a manipulation tactic.

    • @kmhkennedy
      @kmhkennedy 2 года назад +13

I agree with you. I think she might be confusing the intent behind some of that research. From what I’ve seen very few people are saying the slap (for example) was justified, but more trying to figure out how will smith was brought to that point. Likely in an attempt to understand human behavior better.
Also, looking into the character of someone like Trisha pastas isn’t victim blaming (although it can be) it’s trying to evaluate her credibility as a witness. They do this in court, even in countries without juries, because (and this is a shocker so hold on) people lie. If a witness has a history of lying that needs to be taken into account.
I didn’t know who this dobrik douche was before this scandal came along, and he obviously sucks so I’m not trying to validate his behaviors. I rate there are a million reasons why people are still watching him and siding with him. I’ve even seen people say they don’t think he’s innocent but they don’t factor that in to the content he makes, they enjoy it and they are going to watch it so long as he is making it. It doesn’t matter to them what horrible things he does. I think a lot of ppl feel that way but it’s easier to say they think he’s the victim to justify their own poor behavior.

So, I never watched Dobrik's videos, or even really knew who he was before this all blew up. That's not like a brag or something, I'm just old and kind of an outsider on this group.
But when Jeff released his series about the incident, I wanted to see it. Then I was surprised to see how his following, and David's, reacted to it. He states, multiple times, that the reason he's forgiving David is because he needs to focus on healing. And having that anger and stress can hurt his healing neurologically. Like, that was it. It was because he had to in order to heal. Like removing a knife from a cut.
But so many people were like, "Well, it's not fair to hold this over David, because Jeff forgave him."
Excuse me? What? It doesn't require a buttload of emotional maturity or an insane ability to read subtext to see that's not the case. He didn't forgive him because he was taking responsibility, or because he thought David was innocent. He forgave him so that he might not have permanent brain damage. He had no choice but to forgive him. It's not the same. That doesn't absolve David of playing around and finding out WITH SOMEONE ELSE'S LIFE.
It's funny, because Jake and Logan Paul have never done something at that level. Never. And the general consensus is that they're trash people. Imagine if one of them did this. Imagine if it was a Paul brother who almost killed one of their friends. The internet thinks Logan Paul is scum because he did something morally and ethically bankrupt, what if he did something criminal? We know they have poor ethics, what about if they were actually, unequivocally, criminals? Like a near negligent homicide?
I could honestly sit here and list RUclipsrs that are rightfully widely hated, and have been guilty of far lass than Dobrik, all day long.

Ranging from A Real estate agent, Excavator, IT specialist, nutritionist, and like myself another friend with a psych degree because I like to get 2nd opinion in the subject as a lot of times another prospective adds more knowledge.
I picked out a few of his RUclips vids of him that you mentioned, sent then to each individually and asked to watch and give me a serious thought on the character. , I didn't even mention anything about Dobrik or mentioned him specifically and so far e out of two said within the first 10 mins they pretty much came to the same conclusion.

That said if I was slayed to show a house to him I would make up an excuse to leave or if I met him prior I would have someone with me at the viewing. "
E:" seems like a bunch of kids goofing off to some rich ring leader guy who if he wasn't a "virtual celebrity" everything he's doing would be manipulative and borderline illegal. Waco vibes*
    I. T. : "Why is this douchebag Kid so popular and those people around him so dumb to put up with it. I guess their prerogative. He seems super nice and alluring... But I wouldnt be surprised if he ran a prostitute/sex trafficking ring."
Psych degree friend : she actually called me within 5 mins and said
" If this is who you're dating you need to wake the fuck up.. I am 5:02 in and this Dobrik is a narcissistic sociopath. Not everyone can see. He checks off all the boxes to me but I won't lie I think I can see it because I am constantly observing ppls behavior like you do as we were taught in our degrees - I won't lie If I was in his presence I could easily be manipulated and not know it. I really hope this doesn't end in you telling me that he's some serial killer who uses ppl do do his biding by luring him in his cult like harem with the age old stick with me if you want fame or fortune."
Waiting on other 1 more and I'll post results then.
Viewing him you come with some sort of caution but it's easy to see how and what he uses to blind side his victims which he convinces are his friends.

Tbh I’m glad you alluded to the Depp vs Heard case in this because while I do think Depp was severely abused in that relationship, the discourse has been falling into this trap horribly and I think that’s dangerous for survivors. Let me elaborate: I believe Amber Heard abused Depp because I listened to 4-5 hours of unedited audio thats been released of them talking and arguing while alone together. Heard displays repeated and well documented emotional and psychological abuse strategies, such as redirection when her partner makes a solid and reasonable point, guilt tripping her partner when he expresses his personal boundaries, minimizing her actions, maximizing his, moving the goal posts, sometimes gaslighting within the same recorded conversation, demeaning language and false equivalence, entitlement over her partners body and autonomy. There’s also some testimony from their marriage counselor which I found pretty impartial and extremely telling. She revealed amber would hit Depp when she felt disrespected in moments he left the room during a verbal onslaught. If she had hit the man in response to being hit or cornered, he would still be the abuser. But she sighted many instances where amber hit Depp for trying to leave and escape during her one of her rages and verbal onslaughts, explaining she saw this as a personal slight. There’s are huge flags for abuse and based on this I suspect amber was the one beating her spouse to control him & I suspect that Depp was only hitting in self defense.
However, instead of this important evidence, the public discourse has been sighting really irrelevant reasons and logical fallacies to believe Depp. I’ve seen people saying they don’t believe heard because of how she comes off on the stand, her personality, their love for depps personality. These are all useless. Especially when a good body language specialist will tell you that signs of deception also occur when a person is fearful they won’t be believed ! Which is the crux of a defamation case! A victim of abuse is also often angry and off putting, they’re drained from what they’ve been through. A perpetrator is often skilled at seeming calm, serene and charming to contrast with their victim and seem more believable! He’s also an accomplished actor. That’s why I went into the case suspecting that Heard was innocent and abused. However the cold hard evidence in the audio recordings, many of which Heard recorded herself, are really chilling and really telling. She shows herself to be a skilled abuser on mental emotional and physical levels. She actually justifies physical attacks saying she is “standing up for herself” but in the same sentence she is referring to standing up for wanting depps time and attention. She is not referring to him hitting her and hitting back, which I would support. She is referring to Depp disagreeing with her, not consenting to something she wants, and him walking out of a room to de-escalate as what she is “standing up to” by hitting him. This is control. and the full unedited context of the audio conversation is really startling. She knows how to use the language for very effective victim blaming. When all she is standing up for in the conversation is her wants with his body. It’s creepy and disgusting. I wish more people were talking about the real signs she is the abuser. Not her attitude on the stand or depps reputation with his friends. Those arguments are poisonous to survivors. I say that even while counting Depp among survivors

It's important to also ask the question; if their sexes had been reversed from day one, would everyone have believed Depp if he'd mad accusations first? And then if similar audio had come out that had her as a man now admitting to hitting and manipulating him (just like the real audio has her admitting that), would some people still staunchly say "well I think they were both abusive"? If he were a woman and we all believed him now, because of the audio, would we not just see that person as a pure victim, rather than someone in a "mutually toxic relationship"? I think it's ridiculous the number of people who seem to still be judging him this harshly just because he's a MALE victim.

@@TheWrestlingful tbh I’m not scrutinizing you or what you went through. I just think it’s dangerous to all survivors to say that all women are believed and all men are not. There’s so many other factors besides gender at play when a victim is dismissed and a perpetrator is overlooked and when a false accusation takes hold or is debunked in the public eye. I understand and agree it’s hard for male victims to be believed. I only want to say that it’s not as easy for the average woman to be believed as you’re suggesting either. And I’ve even known a narcissistic man to make a false accusation on a woman he was abusing once. Those twisted dynamics can go beyond gender

I just found your videos and I was pulled in specifically by the David Dobrik/Jeff Wittek incident. I usually do not like to keep digging into these things because I feel like its a massive rabbit hole. BUT! When I found this video you talked about how us as viewers can sometimes see something as 'oh they're just stupid' vs. 'there is something going on at home' I truly had to comment because I also feel like there are layers to that. I took a second to think back on if I had ever done that and I am sure that I have, but I also think that some don't go straight to that depending on situations where that has happened to them or even someone else in their life. I see countless comments on videos like that and growing up I was bullied and to some extent everyone has been bullied. This really does though pique my interest because sometimes it's far overlooked and is a massive problem. My question lies in why some people see through it and see that there might be underlying issues vs. something superficial? Or even how to fully evade thinking that way? I do love your content though, it packs a punch but keeps lighthearted so its not forced upon someone! Have a good day!!

Its important that we don't let our biases get the best of us when it comes to determining rather or not someone is guilty of something they may or may not have done...it could be the difference of life and death or a pattern not repeating itself again....

Peoples interest are highest when they can understand bits of what is going on. When a story is fresh and also familiar to something going on in your life, you make connections between the story and your life to make sense of the both of them. This is called analogy making and its a vital process in understanding things.
the first connections you make are usually the easiest to make and it then it builds up in complexity. when it becomes complex it just takes way too much energy and time.
Dopamine is related to pattern recognition so its pleasurable to make connections. Perhaps once you've reached a complexity the effort it takes to make connections outweighs the benefit.
If you wait a period of time and acquire more life experience and more details of the story get revealed suddenly what was once a complexity becomes simple connections you can make that are pleasurable until youve hit another complexity.
my guess is people lost interest because the subject became too complex. David "shifting the blame" suggests to people that he is not entirely at fault. Thats a complexity that the majority wont likely tackle, until the majority have grown up enough to understand it with not much effort required.

The study about people assuming a Muslim judge giving a terrorist a lesser sentence is because of his religion is kind of self-defeating, since it implies that the people surveyed are wrong to assume that a person's religion will make them judge people of the same/different religions differently, but the study's results also imply that the people discriminating against the Muslim guy are doing so because of their religion (presumably Christianity).

I remember watching his videos being entertained but also feeling uncomfortable and noticing moments I was not okay with. I also used to listen to Views. That was when I got even more uncomfortable because now you got to hear his actual opinion on things. The way he spoke to his friends, his opinion on things, and his lack of knowledge on the world and how other people are/function was so frustrating to listen to sometimes. But for some reason I still kept watching, I still kept listening.... Why?
Partially I guess its because I was not taking them too seriously. I was simply watching out of curiosity and to have something to listen to on my long drives. Maybe I fell into the illusion of yea those jokes don't feel okay but his friends are laughing along with him (the ones he makes fun of) so who am I to feel anyway about it.. idk
