I don't want to get into too much depth, but there's this side of tiktok called floptok which has a lot of queer and brown people in it, a unique little community, which likes to say that they are welcoming of anyone being a "flop". Y'know, not being or liking racists, making fun of sexist people, a "woke brigade" dressed up in sparkles, if you will. That's all I want to say. But for some reason, those values and beliefs they strongly hate don't seem to matter when there's a celebrity involved-theres a lot of stan culture with "flops", from people in telenovelas/bollywood films all around the world to standard American stars to kpop singers. They love, LOVE, nicki minaj and ariana grande. There's definitely other examples but I cannot remember. Probably taylor swift.
What I find super weird though, is how the one person they fully stopped liking was doja cat, even though she had the cockiness/arrogance of the other two.

I get the feeling someone here is going to take that statement and yours as saying, "oh so grown women can't enjoy Lolita fashion?? That's ageist" or something stupid, so I'd like to add something:
There's nothing wrong with an adult dressing in a Lolita style. In fact, I heavily doubt any child regardless of their style would like to dress like a Victorian baby doll for fun, considering some mothers already do that. Not to mention the costs of those kinds of styles. The problem lies with taking something with a clear source for inspiration, not to mention the name's origin, and sexualizing it. She's allowed to be sexual, and she's allowed to dress Lolita, nobody can take that from anyone-but doing both at the same time is odd at the very least.
Me personally I don't really associate high ponytails with anything, at most a crappy personality, but the dresses she (used to idk im not a fan) wears can very easily be seen as an imitation of clothing fof children. A lot of people like to take that obvious observation and twist it on the commenter, claiming them to be a pedo themselves, but you can't deny something like giving a child a penis shaped lollypop isn't sexualizing them. I really hate when people refuse to acknowledge how children are sexualized, and go with the "but you're seeing them that way, it's your fault you pedo" when all it is is noticing pedo bait. People aren't weird for noticing and calling out pedo bait.
@@Vesperad0 I think they are more referring to the Lolita novel by Vladimir Nabokov which has had many film adaptations that uses images of lollypops, heart-shaped sunglasses and picnic patterned two pieces, no of which appear in the books. While you are thinking of the Lolita fashion which I believe started in Japan.
The book is from the perspective of an older man, Humbert (37), who falls in love with 12 year old Dolores Haze or his pet name for her "Lotita". Now Humbert is an unreliable narrator so we never will know if Dolores does see him romantically but either way Humbert is in the wrong no matter how the child feels due to being unable to consent. Which the is point of the book, however with the film adaptations will always, by default, be in third person perspective compared to the books first person. This is why romancing this aesthetic of "Lolita" can be quite damaging as it can present Humbert in the right. Personally I don't think it should've ever been adapted into film. The book explores many ideas one I believe is called nymphology (not the supernatural creature) this term can be referred to insects that stay in the same state for example a cricket whereas a caterpillar become a butterfly, Humbert wants her to stay as a "nymphet" which is impossible. Obviously she can dress and present herself in anyway she likes but you can see how it can an issue in relation to the media this aesthetic comes from.

I can't even lie, as someone with a baby face I get treated quite well by strangers. I used to be an Uber driver, and being a woman as well, made people immediately comfortable when getting into my car. They'd always ask me, "do you ever feel unsafe?" when in reality no, I never did bc secretly I'm a serial ki- anyway I'm rambling you get my point.

I don't even think it's necessary to invoke babyface phenomenon here; Ariana's fans are okay with what she does because a lot of them seem to think it's "girlboss" behavuour to "steal your man" and be a diva. And that's all there is to it. She appeals to a certain demographic that fantasizes about being THAT girl, just like rappers can get away with cheating etc because they appeal to men who want to be players.

It's weird, but it's not uncommon. Psychology theories have actually argued that we're more likely to be attracted to people who look like us, because we're attracted to ourselves. Hence why people may go after partners who look like their parents or siblings, because your parents/siblings look like YOU; therefore, your partner looks like you. In some cases, such as Ethan & Frankie (& look at Florence Pugh's dad & her ex Zach Braff), it's an obvious similarity. While in other cases, the personality traits may trump the physical similarities.

Our relatives "feel like home" because we know them from such a young age and we look for this in our partners as well. Humans are always looking for patterns.
As someone with a baby face, it's a double-edged sword. Sure people wanna give you the benefit of the doubt but at the same time they assume you're incompetent and treat you as the child they perceive you to be.

Honestly I think it also has everything to do with the fact that she helped ruin a marriage. Yes, Ethan is obviously the one who took his vows, but cheating with a married man who has a baby is one of the worst things you can do to another woman. Pete Davidson wasn’t married. Yup! It’s a different thing, especially in Hollywood, to move in on someone’s boyfriend/girlfriend than it is to move in on their spouse/co-parent. They are both responsible, obviously, and Ethan is responsible for his own choices. But SHE is the famous one, she’s the name we all know and the one with a reputation to protect, plus there’s clearly a bit of a power imbalance in this pairing favoring her, so of course she’s going to take more of the criticism. AND she was married too! Even if Dalton was the devil himself like her fans are trying to portray him, that still doesn’t mean you wait to divorce until you find someone better to hook up with.

I think the main factors with Ariana’s pass are:
- pretty privilege
- baby face
- halo effect
- her past role as cat was super intertwined with her real life. Back then she wasn’t just cat on screen, but also in real life. So I feel like people saw her as ditzy and not really harmful. The more and more years go on and these patterns still exist, the more people realize she’s just a regular woman who seems to be not that nice.
- culture now is more focused on being morally right , canceling and keeping celebs in check.
- she has an enormous fanbase where some people have deeply ingrained parasocial relationships, some of them starting from childhood. Some people just don’t want to/can’t see that she has done things that are just not okay. Can I be honest without getting the pitchforks and torches thrown my way: I believe a lot of the general public didn't really go after Ariana as hard because of what happened at Manchester. I've always looked older and more mature, and once I got into the work force I realized that I was treated MUCH differently than my coworkers who looked young or had baby faces, even when I was actually the younger one. I was always held to a higher standard while those coworkers often got passes when they messed up or acted out.

I am sorry to hear that. Interestingly enough, as someone with a baby face, I have been treated the opposite way of what you are describing. I was made the "dumb one," because the idea was that if I looked young, I must have been stupid. I wasn't taken seriously, If there was a task there was suspision if I would be able to perform it at all, and people went out of their way to blame me if something went wrong, because they thought that I was not not getting enough flack. It has improved since I work from home now and noone needs to see my face.
I always looked more "mature" (not to say old, lol). But, it's double edged, people will treat me as a more professional person and that helped me as somebody who had power positions pretty young. However, yeah, people do value youthful looking people and will act more tender towards them too.

I'm a short woman of 26, I have a baby face and I work as a doctor. My patients have asked me numerous times if I'm a real doctor or just a student. I gotta say I really do feel like a child and I like childish clothes, cute backpacks and stuff. But becuse of my job and people not taking me seriously I started to wear more grounded clothes, tend to choose more adult-like glasses, hairstyles, shoes. I started acting more confident and people ask those kind of questions less frequently now. People wonder why Millie Bobbie Brown wants to look older and I 100% understand her now. It's because you are not treated as an equal if you look like a young little girl! We just want to be treated the same way as older men do! People really do treat male doctors better, they respect them and trust their decisions. If they are not being ignorant of offensive, patients tend to respect them more.
But I also have to admit that patients have more sympathy towards me than they do to the male doctors. If I fuck something up they don't care that much as they do if the male doctor messes up. I also try to calm people down, I don't act agressive so it may also be a factor

I sympathize with this. I too had a long phase where I put extra effort into "looking my age" for the same reason. The phase ended around my early 30s. Now idgaf if people take me serious or not. In the end my usually speaks for itself resulting in others changing their tune and treating me with more respect. I shameless take advantage of my youthful looks now to rock cute clothes and anime keychains on my bags when I go out.
Soooo, as a therapist heres my take....Her father cheated on her mother and left the family for another woman. This obviously had an impact on Ariana , as it would any child. As we become adults we often are subconsciously attracted to partners who fill a void. This is where the whole "daddy issues, mommy issues" came from to explain specific head scratching behaviors in dating. There is also another path that we may take without realizing which looks like us becoming the embodiment of "our parents" relationship, in which we recreate the roles of whatever relationship was modeled for us in our youth. In my eyes it is obvious Ms.Grande does indeed have unresolved issues from her youth when her father abandoned the family and "chose" the other woman over his wife and children. This has led to her either consciously or subconsciously choosing to embody "The other woman". Almost all of her relationships point to a pattern of engaging men in comitted relationships to "choose" her over their significant other. It has become her whole identity at this point. Whether this high of getting guys to choose her over their own families quells whatever trauma she has yet to address or she is just a blatant spoiled brat who has never been told "NO!" Is anyones guess at this point. I am curious if she has ever looked at her homewrecking situations through yhe lense of the significant other who is being abandoned ( sounds like they all are blindsided). The videos I have seen of her she shows absolutely zero remorse ot even a hint of guilt which is shocking. Any person with emotions and feelings has to at least ponder what this is doing yo yhe other people involved. The fact she was in their very shoes as a child being left by her own father for an affair partner, you would think that she would at least have some moral code or grace towards the victims. The repercussions of infidelity in any form is not just family wide,it effects any children involved, friend groups, sometimes even work life if family buisness is involved. Not to mention cheating blows up any future the original couple had planned. Which in turn can negatively effect financial aspects ...retirement plans...homes, Nothing is safe from the fracturing that cheating invokes. Oftentimes there is alot of grief work that involved for the spouses who were left behind as they are left greiving a person they thought they knew and all of the future plans they had in place with this person. To summarize we all have had crappy stuff happen in our youth, that doesnt excuse or give a free pass to then turn around and act in an equally destructive manner to others. Actions good and bad have consequences, it is up to us to decide whether we want to spread kind/helping feelings or to spread hurtful/destructive feelings. Anyone reading this remember to communicate with your partner as it is a key fundamental in success. Also if you come across anyone who acts like Ms. Grande ...get yourself and your family Far far far away.

Baby face effect can definitely be a win and make those that have the baby face percieve life differently. My niece who is 15 gets treated differently from her sister, in part, because of her cute "baby face." Though she knows she's got it, she's not experiencing life without it, so she grows accustomed to that treatment. To your video's point, as it fades....people will start to treat you differently. I can't imagine what that can possibly do to that person psychologically, especially since she's never been treated in any other way except as a "cute, innocent" person. Great video!

As a 4'11 baby faced 30 year old this theory is so true. I rarely got in trouble in school and even now i get babied which I hate
I can confirm this theory on 2 fronts, the first being its basic psychology. It's the same concept behind how maternal/paternal instincts play into our perception and how "cuteness" can trigger our brain in ways that form positive emotions. The second is on a personal level. I'm a full-grown adult, full-time job, good education, etc, but because I'm a shorter than average person, I'm treated quite differently. Women perceive me as less masculine, older people perceive me as immature because they feel I look younger than I am therefore lack life experience and intellect, and the list goes on. I've done micro studies into how I can make those factors work to my advantage. I pitch up my voice sometimes, and that makes me seem more innocent and approachable to a degree. It sucks being treated like lesser just based on my stature, but it is fascinating to see how that perception plays into my daily life. Sometimes, it does indeed work for me as it does her.
I'm short and honestly I prefer short guys. I don't judge someone solely on height but if I had two people in front of me, I'd be more attracted to the shorter one. I definitely understand though, being a shorter male would be hard honestly.
Also forgot to mention her voice. It's very difficult to percieve her as anything but angelic even if she, like any other human, has imperfections.
