- On June 25th, 2020 Jenna Marbles released a video called “A Message”, announcing she would be leaving her RUclips channel indefinitely. This decision came after a number of viewers demanded an explanation for her past content. @@suides4810 I'd have to disagree, and point out 22:55 makes a very good point against that theory. Jenna NEVER used sponsors. Never once did she want to do it purely for money, sure she got money in other ways, gotta live. In the end, she genuinely loved doing videos and the podcast and loved interacting with the fans and community. It's a damn shame she felt the need to leave, but not everyone is equipped to deal with excessive drama, and Jenna rarely had any drama associated with her name.
The thing is, she can always quit for her own sakes but people cancelled her which isn't right. She's so great and loving and I miss her but I don't mind her being away or there as long as she's okay. All of this hating and cancelling simply shouldn't have happened.

I was legit upset to see Jenna leave. She's a genuinely kind hearted person. And she will be missed in this community.
I actually cried. Cried that she was treated like that by people who didn't know her or her heart. I cried because I knew I would miss this family that became my "family".
People love and cherish being offended. It’s their life’s blood. And we should all completely ignore that each and every one of those people are choosing to be offended. Being offended use to take someone actually committing, ya know, an offense against you or a people.
Jenna Marbles black face wasn’t intended with malice or hate or degradation of black people. And yet people *chose* to be offended. Because it feels good. Feels righteous.
Weird that this entire video was about authenticity, but to me authenticity requires some semblance of bravery. No one is brave on social media anymore.
i also got emotional when i learned that she left..ive watched her since she started her channel and she came to feel like a cool internet older sister and watching her got me thru a lot of bad shit.
I grew up watching her and loved how eccentric and herself she was. Sad to see her go. :(
Her announcement aired on my birthday and I was SO upset. It took me a little bit before I calmed down enough to actually start to try and understand where she was coming from and while I do now, I still miss her videos a lot.

There's no such thing as a social problem that's only on the internet. It's just easier to see when you witness hundreds of people's takes at once rather than solely your own bubble.

It can be your perfectly normal next door neighbor. It's not an us vs. them and if you're blaming the internet or social media, you're blaming the wrong source. People are just always people, equally capable of goodness and toxicity. They are more willing to talk shit on the internet yeah, but it's because it feels like there will be no consequences. It's like being drunk or in a faceless mob. You don't stop being that person when you log offline. You start having more inhibitions.
The internet has created a really strange social atmosphere. Sincerity is dead, crushing people doing their best, normal. This over idealized vision of a "good person" needs to end. Everyone does something regrettable at one point, that doesn't define them.
Real life is the same way. The internet is just such an amplified version of it now that it's become a caricature.
It's modern day lynch gallows or witch hunting, fortunately for us without the burning at the stake and death part. At least it shows we're evolving....kinda 🤷♀️

Society wasn't ready for social media. The internet was my safe place from the mid 2000s until maybe the beginning of the 2010s, because there were mostly losers like me who felt outcasted in the real world. It was more anonymous, yet ironically, way nicer and positive. Now you would have to get off the internet for peace of mind because the general public in first world countries are online. That includes e.g. the popular mean person, your racist uncle etc etc. As much as I like social media, I hope in the long run it goes away if it keeps being this negative.

Never took sponsorships, never once faked her persona, never took advantage of her viewers. Kind, sweet, and authentic. Truly a sweetheart down to her core. It’s such a shame that she left but I bet she’s doing so much better mentally ❤️
Maybe not on her main channel, but Jenna and Julien took sponsorhips for their podcast episodes -- and of course they would, how else would they be able to pay their bills? Needless to say that they didn't just let anyone sponsor them, they mostly endorsed companies/products they personally enjoyed/used.
@@D0MiN0ChAn I noticed every time I watched it was Julien reading the sponsors, and she would just end with thank you sponsors 😅 i think even tho she liked the brands or whatever it may be uncomfortable for her to do the ads. I think they even talked about it when they got their first sponsors.
the funny thing is i felt like she was a prime example of whats wrong with youtube. that being said now i think she is a prime example of someone i just can not tolerate as a person. i am just going to say this i can not stand people like jenna due to the simple fact that remind me quite frankly i am beneath them. at least celibrirties have to excuse of living in a totally different world then most people.

She felt like she was taking advantage of her relationship with her viewers. The home grown relationship on JennaMarbles was different from the podcast, that’s why I think she felt more comfy taking sponsors and always disclosing them.

What was so upsetting to me about Jenna Marbles leaving over "blackface scandal" was that she never DID blackface. She was working in a tanning salon at the time and tanned a *lot*, her skin was just that shade at the time. Yes, it was an orange tan and she was impersonating Nicki Minaj with a pink wig on. It was not even closely blackface or anything...I'm so sad about this! Honestly speaking, I think she was broken by people not on the brightest side who were trying to be part of the movement against blackface but did it all wrong. I would be ashamed if I did that. I think they need to be making apologies.
Regarding the “Sluts on Halloween” video...that was the first video of Jenna’s I ever watched, and I guess it’s a perfect example of times changing and not having context. I vividly remember I saw the title expecting a rant about girls dressing like slutty versions of whatever on Halloween, because it was SUPER popular at the time to make fun of that. And Jenna shocked me by defending it and saying “who cares what people want to do on Halloween.” And sure, you can look at it and say it was poor word choice...but it was also VERY of the time (unlike some other examples of faux pas from RUclipsrs), but I never saw it as a problematic video where she was shaming anyone. Quite the opposite.
She was the only youtuber who never tried to sell us anything. She never did collabs for clout. She wasn't in it for the money. She was just here to make us laugh. You'll never see that again here.

On one hand you’re right but on the other hand I don’t want to say a RUclipsr isn’t being themselves if they do have a simple sponsorship in their videos. They have to make a living somehow. @@hayleeofthevalley People created content on RUclips before they got paid for it and still managed to pay their bills. It still is possible today, SimplyNailLogical for example is a RUclips that still has a normal job besides her RUclips career.

I really hope people respect Julien's decisions to stay online while Jenna doesn't. He's not just Jenna's boyfriend. He's a person who wants to make good content that ppl will like.
Not to mention a great chef and cameraman. I love his vlogs, always cool music, gorgeous shots. His own perspective is really lovely.

People tend to not realize she didn't leave because she was "canceled." She hasn't been okay for a while. She had been joking and saying she may leave - "Who knows when I'll be done" "I just wanna do things for me and be selfish for now" etc etc, She's needed to stop for a while, this just didn't help.
That being said, she left for her mental health, which had been dipping for a bit. But she may never understand the good she was doing from being here with us. No one wanted this.

Sure, something would've gotten to Jenna at some point, but don't think cancel culture didn't add to the chaos and the death of authenticity on RUclips. That's something that seriously needs to be addressed and brushing it away only allows the plague to fester.
I think her being “canceled” was the straw that broke the camel’s back. It was the catalyst that showed her that a public online presence was not good for her mental health and it was time for a career pivot. I may be in the minority but I hope for her sake she stays offline and finds a new way to make a living. She’s a very smart woman and I don’t doubt she’ll find something else she excels at.

I just can't imagine how it must feel for her when she's battling a serious illness and no one cares to think or reflect on that. I created a twitter account about 4 years ago, rarely used it (had less than 100 tweets) but even the little I used it was too much for my mental health and I had to delete my account. It's a cesspool.

Because people can get offended by anything and convince themselves they are hurt by it. What happened to people taking responsibility for their own feelings? at the end of the day, she volunteered to quit. she called herself out and i think everyone should do what jenna did, which is hold herself accountable. blackface and racist jokes aren’t something people have to “convince themselves they are hurt by.” in america, black people have been hurt by blackface in the past, and present. there were minstrel shows that contributed to how white people looked at black people, which is as dumb things who weren’t at the level of other human beings. a lot of them are serious. what jenna did is leave because of her mistakes. she made mistakes that hurt people and chose to leave because of that. it is nobody’s fault but jenna’s. this isn’t about walking on eggshells for other people. it’s about owning up to one’s mistakes.

@@mr.worldwide4758 Me as well. I've said words and made jokes that I or the people around me didn't few as offensive or didn't know it could be offensive. After I started meeting different types of people and spending more time on the internet I found out said things were hurtful to some people, or reminded them of things they would rather forget. A lot of people have things they would've done differently back then now if they had the chance. But we don't. That's why we have to remember and make sure it doesn't happen again, but if people don't give you the space to grow, why would anyone bother to change? People should be getting positive encouragement to change, not getting beat down. Why bother changing if you're going to get the same negative response anyway.
@@soulangela7154 this is why I recommend for everyone to just delete all their facebook or status history or delete all tweets every year or so. You'll cringe at most of the shit you said anyway and wont miss it, and also, while things are never truly erased from the internet, you can do yourself a favor and not have embarrassing stuff readily and easily accessible to the public. Just doesnt make sense in this day and age.
I think an even bigger problem here is that the teenage twitter mobs insist on judging past actions and jokes against the standards of today. I would make the argument that a lot of the stuff people did that they're getting cancelled for (sexual assault or any violence notwithstanding) does not reflect on their character in any way, because they did that stuff when it was socially acceptable, and so I don't know that I would even agree that "learning and growing" is a thing in this context. A person can have behaved in a socially acceptable way all the time, it's just that what's acceptable has changed. You can argue that X was always wrong, but we only do that against the background we have today. I'm not even that old and even I remember a time 15 years ago when painting your face brown in order to dress up like a black celebrity (not blackface in the sense of minstrel shows, k) was not something people got upset over. That is not to invalidate people taking offence at things like this today - the culture has changed now and people should act accordingly. But retroactively applying the current standards is trying to move the goal post for something that happened 10 years ago. And since comedy and parody in particular age like milk, in the entertainment industry, it's especially bs. "No punishment without law" is one of the basic human rights and founding legal principles, yet apparently the concept in everyday life has escaped some people.

It's also really hard to communicate how different the early 2000s were culturally, when youtube was just starting. I was in jr high and remember that race jokes & gay jokes were kind of everywhere. Please understand I'm not saying those are ok, but it was definitely super common for popular youtubers to be making race jokes and their followers would receive it well. The same goes for comedians at the time. As the culture started circulating other perspectives that made it clear that that type of humor caused real harm, our norms about humor started changing. You can see this in real time on youtubers' accounts like jenna marbles or nigahiga. Jokes they used to make, they don't make anymore. People and cultures grow and change. That's why I hate how people have been taking decades old clips and using them against youtubers like Jenna, without any regard for who she is now.
Not even just people with a following/platform, A LOT of average people talked like that.
people hadn't lost their mind's yet. now they are sensitive, spoiled little babies with no sense of humor. i can't imagine how people like that will get through life. but i'll tell you one thing, they'll have to do so without people like jenna, because they don't deserve her.

The second I saw that "A Message" video pop up I knew basically what it was going to be... leaving RUclips. In the two months leading up to it, you hear more and more from her during her videos about her being exhausted and kind of not knowing what to do in the next video and the next, etc. I don't think people bringing up those old videos was THE reason she left or just an excuse for her, I think it was more like the straw that broke the camel's back. She already just wasn't feeling it for various reasons and probably needed a long break. Then that shit hit the fan (it wasn't even actual black face, she used to go hella hard on that spray tan, but whatever) and it made her take a step back and maybe realize that RUclips just wasn't that fun for her anymore. 10 years of making weekly videos is a lot. It's a long time. She's in her mid 30's now and maybe it's just time for a new phase in Jenna's life. As we've seen, she's changed a hell of a lot since she started on RUclips. So maybe this was just a natural part of it all.
I hate that the old videos are gone, but I completely understand the choice to do so. I really do think we need those videos to show how people grow and change especially from like 18-28 years old. I also heavily relate to that sort of transformation. I was very sheltered, very conservative, and low key racist when I was younger. Thank god I'm not anymore. Like Jenna, I'm damn proud of the changes I've made. Of course I wish I hadn't been like that in the first place, but you can't really help the way you were raised. I've seen younger people commenting about Jenna's old videos saying things that essentially boil down to "once a racist (or whatever), always a racist (or whatever)". That's simply not true. I've experienced this myself. It's extremely real. And it's extremely good that people can make such big changes early on in life. Seeing it happen in chronological order on a channel like Jenna's was pretty interesting.
Also, wtf is up with that woman criticizing Jenna's "weight gain"? As if you cannot get fat off of food that is legit vegan. Bruh. Sugar is vegan. Along with many other unhealthy things... also, you can simply just eat a shit ton of things that are considered healthy but when you consume too many calories (without burning them off through exercise) long term, guess what... weight gain. Whether or not animal products are in what you're eating. Aaaand... when you hit 30, um... it's pretty common to put on weight more easily than you did in your early 20's. People who go vegan often hold on to healthier weights simply because they are really paying attention to what they're putting in their bodies. I grew up on Jenna. She's the reason I went to college, which is the best thing I've done for myself thus far. I was in middle school and I had never imagined that for myself until I saw Jenna's video about "other things you can do with your degree" (like cry over it, or eat chili off of it). She helped me embrace my intelligence, she taught me how to be a more responsibile pet-owner, she set an example for what a beautiful long-term relationship could look like, she recently inspired me to start living within my means so I can save up and buy a home of my own someday too. Her old content is as cringey as you'd expect anyone's to be in 10 years' retrospect. But she taught me things I'll always cherish, like that "life is too short to have boring hair" and that you should "always do the right thing...unless it doesn't feel right." ♥️

Joji was called out repeatedly. Throughout his career as Filthy Frank many people criticized his content. He just had thick skin, knew who his audience was, and ignored the criticism. Jenna obviously couldn't do that, given how she always chose to engage with people who criticized her, which isn't wrong, but meant she would eventually burn out if the hate got too much even if she still had her core audience.
People have always said that in order to be an online personality you have to have thick skin, because you will inevitably get haters. I don't think anyone that got "cancelled" actually lost their core audience. Sure, their views take a dip for a while but that comes back pretty quickly. What generally happens is people get overwhelmed by the criticism they receive all at once and can't take it anymore, so they quit. They still have their audience, and would still be successful if they kept making videos, but they can't handle the criticism.
Imagine that actually happening and him evolving as a person and killing that terrible channel of poor taste and humor, before it killed him.
I really cry when I think about Jenna. I think I literally went through the grieving process and still am. I havent found anything like Jennas videos and I really felt like she was a safe space.

I'm 56 an I loved Jenna from the early days on. Super genuine, sweet lady that was always super inclusive and concerned with everyone's feelings. We're in a period of American history that wants to demonize people for doing things that weren't socially unacceptable at that point in time. When Jenna did the Micki Manage video she was being ridiculous and way over the top. Satire from decades ago does not, nor was it meant to be racist in any way. We've created a culture where trolls are licking their lips to discover something that can be used against celebrities and can end you tomorrow. UNLESS you go in front of the press and make a fake apology so you don't lose your livelihood. The public doesn't care that those people rarely mean it. It's the culture that pulls your pants down, spanks you , and then renews your show for another season. This was a sincere loving person who is just as fragile as those who wanted to hold her feet to the fire. I'm glad she stepped back because this hurt her a lot. I think she felt betrayed by fans that wanted to be shitty. And a spirit like Jenna doesn't get replaced or forgotten. All of this shows the black eye on society that is political correctness.

I watched Jenna for nearly a decade and I honestly miss her like I miss a friend who moved away. She was an honest person who’s emotions I could feel and we had fun together. It’s really upsetting when a few people being bullies can effect a sensitive wonderful person into leaving the internet and all of us to feel the loss.

Another problem seems to be that some people believe certain behaviors are common sense, when really, there are the results of having a good loving parents or growing up in good environments. To be born too good, socially sensitive, and kind, attentive parents is a privilege that not everyone gets. People seem to forget that children are being born to trash people everyday. Some of us grow up in racist households, homophobic households, are raised to believe that victims are at fault for their own rape, are raised to believe that it's okay to belittle people in the name of God- all horrible things which take active unlearning. To be born in a home where you never got to make these mistakes and had to unlearn being this kind of person is a privilege that few people in the world get. Many of us are born to trash people, and are actively learning and UNlearning everyday on how to be better.

Honestly, the RUclips platform and "internet culture" doesn't quite allow for authentic RUclipsrs to exist anymore. First, the algorithm benefits a very special kind of content, so, if you want to make money, you're going to adapt your videos as to fit the standards on what is profitable, which may cause a loss of authenticity. Secondly, "internet culture" forces individuals to adhere to what is socially acceptable. Not everyone has grown up with the same awareness and the same values. Not everyone may agree on certain topics, especially delicate ones. We can't force everyone tho think the "correct" way and also expect authenticity from them.

Yeah, basically it'll create stagnation where new people cannot grow yet people will complain about older/popular people not being "innovative". Like how can innovation prosper when a select amount of people refuse to admit their mindset is very one-note and want everybody to fit this small mold of opinions and perspectives. Then claim they're "progressive" or "liberal" when what they're doing is conservative/authoritarian with a different coat of paint. We cannot grow when there's a "wrong" way to think. I am not talking about CLEAR evil shit I'm talking about just having the ability to say no to what's presented now as "right" doesn't mean you're "evil" it's like not everybody is gonna agree. Yet that is why their logic tries to twist everything is tied to "oppressing" so refusing is tied to hurting somebody. It just sucks and ironic from people that "what to keep it real" more like they refuse to be real themselves.

No, they are deleting their old videos because people don't know how to watch the full picture and accept people's growth. They are trying to avoid being attacked like Jenna was. I was explaining that these RUclipsrs have to delete these videos because even though they have acknowledged that they were wrong, people will try to attack them anyway. Also, if you actually think about it, there is a lot of harm in attacking these RUclipsrs for things that they have apologized for or obviously learned not to do as well. Personally, when I come across offensive things, I just ignore them and if they are too offensive, I stop watching content from that RUclipsr. It's so simple. When I say that the internet has devolved, I mean that hordes of bullies have taken over the internet to bash people for mistakes that I am sure most of them have also made.

I started watching Jenna when I was probably 10 or 11 years old and while I am still so saddened by her leaving, more than that I feel sorry for kids growing up now who won't have such an indescribably amazing role model to grow with. I watched her content evolve as she grew as a person all the while I was growing and changing as a person as well. It hurts to remember how kind and genuine and good-intentioned she is because I've never seen anyone else even come close. She set a standard for herself of growth and maintaining authenticity, and in doing so, she set a standard for a generation of people now making content online because Jenna was an inspiration in some way. But, in keeping with the theme of growth and evolution, I see why she left. I hope she can experience all of the joy and laughter that she has given us over the years. If anyone deserves that, it's Jenna.

I'm 70 years old and was introduced to Jenna's youtube channel several years ago and it breaks my heart that she's left. None of use get through this life with out making mistakes at all stages of life. I am always heartened by those that can admit to their mistakes and can move on and It's sad when other fallible people can't let them for whatever reason. I hope she comes back in some form, I will miss her humor and authenticity. Cancel culture is not exclusive to one political party but I think people often find it easier to see it in the OTHER group and not in their own.
I think that a lot of people who solely blame her absence on cancel culture are missing the full picture. You can tell that she wasn't as enthusiastic about youtube during her last few months on the platform, and would appear less and less on twitch and her other social media. This was just the straw that broke the camel's back. I'm sure that if the old videos didn't resurface, there would still be something else that would've led to her departure. This was inevitable.

I definitely think that burn out was part of the issue but also, covid. Some of the videos she made during this period were not what others had been from before all of this if that makes sense.
I agree too. I watched her videos and she just felt more tired and tired and kept taking breaks more often and it honestly seemed like it was wearing her out. She even said before that she was running out of things to do in her videos every week, and I think I remember her mentioning it was just tiring.
Dont you think that if burnout was the main problem then shed say it was the main problem? I mean i just watched a 30 minute video talking about how genuine jenna is so when she says im leaving because i made videos in my past im not proud of that people keep bringing up, then she probably left because she made videos that shes not proud of that people keep bringing up

I honestly started watching her back in my college days in the early 2010s and she was and will always be the GOAT for RUclipsrs. She’s the Queen Bee of this shit. Miserable people will drag people down that are shining brightly. She needs this for herself and I am sure she will come back better than ever.
I remember randomly clicking on her “Drunk Makeup Tutorial” when I was 13 and laughing my ass off-I watched every video of her since. There is something about Jenna marbles that is so charming, endearing, genuine, caring, and just lovely that I haven’t found on any social media platform except for her. Social media has turned into mass marketing and been overrun with money hungry idiots and we’ll never find anyone else like her.

Im not gonna lie, I didn't like the Jenna of ten years ago. I thought of her as superficial and mean, I had seen a few of her videos but couldn't help but see negative things about them. However everyone liked her and I subscribed to her because she was one of the popular youtubers of the time. Over time I ended up forgetting about her but after awhile her content started becoming how it is *was* now and I rediscovered her again. What's wonderful about Jenna is that she's clearly bettering herself and genuinely trying her best to be a good mature person/role model. Some things don't need addressing, like Jenna's case. Clearly her maturity over time IS the apology. Her actions were enough and even more meaningful than some stereotypical apology video. I think people really need to start understanding that cancel culture is horrible and only fueled by people who just to watch others burn each other. Yes people need to be held accountable but part of taking accountability is giving time for said person to grow. To learn from their mistake and move on. This definitely isn't happening. Jenna was truly a gem on this platform and a wonderful role model, it's sad to see more toxicity taking more control. And ultimately her taking a step back was the right decision for her.
I didn’t start watching Jenna’s videos properly until she left RUclips because when I watched her years ago I thought the same thing. She’s definitely grown into an amazing person and it’s a shame that she’s left, but I’m happy for her at the same time because the internet can be toxic as fuck, especially when you’re a public figure.

Jenna without a doubt saved my life. She’s one of the reasons i’m still here, and that i still fight to be here. i rewatch her videos constantly because she’s the only person who can make me laugh until my stomach hurts. i miss her a lot, i’ve been a consistent viewer of hers for like 10 years. she felt like a friend.

I'm proud of you but I want you to remember this, shes not the reason you're still alive. You are, she just helped remind you of your worth. I want you to remember this when you watch her videos. She was like to a lit of us but making yourself feel like it's all her can be harmful. She helped you remember youre important and deserve your life but she did not personally stop you from ending it. You are important and you deserve a life to live how you choose. I hope this comes across caring like I want it to. Whenever you feel down just remember how she made you feel and how you felt when she made you realize this. I grow up with Jenna, she almost took place in my life as a some sort of older sister.
She's there to make you laugh and to talk about everything with a specific and special lightness that really seemed like talking to a friend.
But at the same time she knew and she proved that she can and did become more serious and hard on certain topics because she is as human as everyone else.
She made mistakes and she paid. Maybe too much.
I still hope with all of my being that she will be back someday.
I want to go back to the time when i was literally counting the days between the uploads on her main channel and the podcast.

I really like the words of one of the comments here: when past things come out, check first to see if the person has changed or are they still the same person they were when those mistakes happened.
A lot of people these days, mostly the new gen, are so harsh and unforgiving in their values. Perhaps it's because they haven't lived long enough to cringe at their past selves, but the way social media is moving right now feels dystopian to me.
I think you hit the nail on the head with why the younger generation can seem so unforgiving. I know when I was younger I was *very* absolutist with how I perceived people as good or bad. But at the same time, I also did/said questionable things and now that I have some space between me and my younger years, I cringe and have the ability to realize that everyone goes through similar phases. Also, Psych IRL's point about social media allowing all of our past "selves" (i.e. shit you posted/said online 10 years ago) to exist in the present makes it harder for ppl too.

Kids today aren't just growing up with social media, they are growing up ON social media. And I don't mean like, "I had a facebook account when I was 12, I grew up on social media", I'm talking about being on Tik Tok, on Instagram, on RUclips. They put themselves out there and build "brands" by the time that they are 15. Kids today live in a way that basically future-proofs their entire existence from having anything cringey or unsavoury ever resurfacing about them in the future. Some kid who was 11 when Jenna first started taking real heat for her older videos is going to see that and do exactly what the thesis for this video is: be inauthentic on the internet.

although your video started playing on my PC due to me letting it idle, I could hear the audio. What attracted me to the video is that you're attempting to be objectively informative. Thanks for spreading the influence of the idea that things need to be observed from many perspectives to get a global and wholesome understanding of its concepts.
Additionally one thing I want to point out, is that a lot of content creators from the time of Jenna Marbles that still exist today also went through the evolution and understanding of how specific content affects audiences due to the evolution of social media platforms. Some content that is now viewed as offensive today, was, at the time, at best, experimental back then. How people are judged by their digital imprint was not even considered back then. This is part of why I've mostly disengaged with my social media accounts for the past 7 years or so. If I dont have a digital imprint to potentially excessively observe, and judge harshly, then I cannot offend or harm my present self, and others cannot judge what they have no buisiness judging about me. Having a point of reference to return to, to help yourself grow is important, but I trust that my memory itself is the best tool to measure with in this case. A thought passes through the mind and lingers for less time than a persistent screen that may provoke too many thoughts or cause dwelling on trivial details that become, wrongfully so, the center of attention. Actions taken by these unfortunate instances may prevent an individual from taking the most optimal actions for improvement, or may even cause them to make detrimental choices.
TLDR: digital imprinting of past events may cause an individual to lose control of their lives due to excessive harsh judgement by others and the seemingly, forcefully imposing judgement of the masses for the individual to change.
