  • How to fix the booting to Aptio Setup Utility BIOS issue with ASUS X555 laptops.
    This problem is caused by the HDD board no longer having a reliable connection to the mainboard. Replacing the HDD board often resolves this, however in some instances it is necessary to instead swap the HDD into the optical bay in a caddy.
    The various X555 models have different HDD boards, so it is important to make sure the correct part is purchased - I sourced the replacement from ASUSParts.eu which has a good part finder - the HDD board is listed under "Sub-boards": www.asusparts.e...

    Another tip that works for me on these models is to disconnect the battery.. Then take some Rubbing alcohol 99% clean the motherboard connector and HDD board connector. Let it dry and this will work as well for about 80% of the time.

    Thanks for your help!
    I was troubleshooting a different Asus laptop X552E that was entering into BIOS as soon as it starts.
    It turned out that someone replaced the hard drive, but didn't put any screws and with time it got loose.
    At the same time what ASUS did doesn't make any sense at all.
    Automatically entering BIOS mode without any errors is just plain wrong way to deal with a problem.

    What size of screws are the ones that secure the bottom cover? The keyboard/touchpad just snaps down? What is the name of the Rev 3.6 daughter board? What is the name of the smaller daughter board on the far right? The Rev 3.6 goes to the HDD/ SSD? Thank you 🤓 are the 555x laptops sort of lower end?

    Great video! I am having a tough time figuring out which sub board to buy for my laptop. It is an ASUS X555LB-NS71. The website gave me about 7 options and I don't know anything about computer parts so besides not getting the ones marked "METAL" as you suggested, I am not sure how to choose from the remaining options.

    • @BrueComputing
      @BrueComputing  5 лет назад +1

      It'll depend what revision of mainboard you have. If the screw goes through the mainboard and screws into the HDD board then you need the "Metal" as it has the lugs bonded in, if it goes through the HDD board and screws into the mainboard then you need the non-metal one.
      What are the other options you're choosing from?

      @ZamaEleven 5 лет назад

      Brue Computing here’s a link to an album with pics of the sub board and the model options for a new one imgur.com/a/1sTO6w7 it looks the same as the one you have so I’m wondering the name of the one you got
      This is YBD on another account btw lol

    Wow your video seems exactly what I am looking for. I too have a rev 3.3 but on the asus website you linked, it's available only a rev 3.1, and not 3.6 as you used. Would this work? I assume it's a previous model, so are they faulted or something? Otherwise I'd have to go for ebay but I am not so trustworthy of the vendors I see there...

    I have a failed asus sub-board, i'm trying to decided if I should just run the computer using a USB 3.0 to sata external setup or try moving the drive to the optical bay. Which would be better performing? Thanks!

    • @BrueComputing
      @BrueComputing  6 лет назад

      Definitely the optical bay! Windows probably won't boot from a USB device (unless you use Windows-to-Go) and obviously there is the risk of disconnected the device whilst in use as well.

      Check if you see the HDD/SSD in the bios. if not open the case, if yes do a bios reset to default or remove the CMOS battery for 20 minutes (or longer)
