Bro, my dvd rom is 9mm thick. Is it possible to fit 9.5mm caddy here?

because he wants to use ssd and hdd at the same time and ssds are fail safe no matter how many times they are used but incase of hdd if the your laptop cuts the supply to your hdd thinking that it is a dvd drive to save battery then your hdd will not work until you restart you system again

I just installed a Crucial SSD yesterday,didn't even upgrades de RAM( which I will).
And it goes from power on( not sleeping mode) to you tube in 1440P in 27 seconds!!

I learned this the hard way. Broke some small parts, but still okay.
Original HDD slot is Sata 3 and optical drive slot is sata 1. So if you put you're SSD in the caddy speed will be limited. I think the best thing here is to put the mechanical hdd in a USB 3 external case. what do you think?

Simply change the two. Put the HDD into the optical drive case and the faster SDD to the place of the HDD.

Its safe to put mechanical hard drive into optical drive caddy, my friends laptop runs fine in that configuration, there is no such thing as sudden power cuts to drive during shutdown and it wont damage your HDD, the video uploader just has a paranoid feeling because he hears a "screeching" sound during shutdown when HDD is in caddy.

I tried doing that and I've noticed the sound of suddenly cutting the power of the HDD, that is, inside the HDD the read and write arm resetting to it's default position in an instant resulting in a scratching sound while shutting down the computer every single time but in the current SATA port before shutting down the HDD is given time to reset its internal components before power is cut. In one word, that port is designed for a mechanical HDD. For an SSD though it doesn't matter much when you cut it's power since it doesn't have mechanical parts inside. Hope it helps :)

The trackpad ribbon is delicate as fck. I had to reopen my panel multiple times due to SSD not working properly, and in the meanwhile the trackpad wire/ribbon got broke.

Use 7mm ssd and buy 9.5mm caddy. it will fit perfectly
I've fixed the clicking issue.
At the beginning i had the clicking issue when i switched off the laptop. Then i used gparted livecd to remove the system partition (EFI), system restore and OS and keep and extend the data partition from the mechanical HDD since then no more clicking when i shut down.
so best option for this laptop model is hdd in optical bay caddy, ssd in hhd place?
Did you change anything else besides that? Like disabling power managment for the optical drive
@@mcmc3001 if you understand the issue and know how to solve it, then sure go ahead and replace the old hdd with the new ssd. Apparently the x555 line of Asus laptops have the issue of the hdd not working properly when removed of their original place. I really don't think there will be a huge difference in performance when you change the hdd to the ssd and adding the hdd to the caddy compared to what is seen in the video (ssd in the caddy, hdd in its original place).
You help very much. I have also a X55L. May I ask how to solve a working bootable SSD cannot be detected by the BIOS. I am seeing two problem i think: 1. The White Ribbon connecting the HDD is damaged or the power of the board is malfunctioning since after re-booting my laptop, it can't be turn on again unless you connect with a charger. Hi I have a few questions.
Does this work on any laptop with a CD drive?
So since we are not putting ssd as main hard disk there won't be a speed increase right (eg. boot time won't decrease)? But you said something about installing OS on the ssd...how is this possible because isnt the ssd the secondary storage? Can you give me a link for some tutorial to do that...(putting os on secondary storage)?
So what all programs do you store on Ssd(secondary storage) and what all on hdd(main storage)?
And are you strongly against putting HDD on secondary storage? (because elsectricty gets cut off during shut down and because it is vulnerable to force of impact and HDD has mechanical parts so it will go bad)?

The length, breadth and shape of typical 15.6” notebook CD/DVD-drives are usually the same, the most important thing (I believe) to be careful about while buying a caddy is its thickness.
Ok so as far as I know and have seen happening to my notebook, if you put your OS in any kind of SSD (irrespective of the port connected to and expecting you have moderate specifications) you’ll notice a huge speed boost in app load and OS boot speeds compared to a HDD especially if you’re using one of those newer OSs (Windows 10 for example)
Search in youtube “how to transfer OS to SSD”. Now everyone will use some usb to SATA cable to connect the new SSD. All you have to remember is that your caddy works the same way as their cable. You don’t necessarily have to buy a cable for the transfer process if your SSD doesn’t come with one
My OS and all programs are installed in the SSD. Games, pictures, videos, music and other bulk data are in the HDD. The SSD is primary since it contains the OS and (as far as I know) does not depend on the port connected to.
I strongly recommend NOT putting the HDD IN THE CADDY. I personally experienced the power cut thingy, it wasn’t written anywhere. As far as I know, mechanical drives have a tendency to go bad because of sudden power cuts. Hope it helps :)

Ah I thought only if you put the ssd in the actual spot (where the HDD is initially when you buy it) will it be considered. I didn't know whichever storage that has the os will be considered primary :P

Because my laptop has A555LF written on the back panel sticker, but however when I opened it somewhere it is written X555LF also, is it true for your laptop as well ? Hi, I was wondering if there won't be any problems if the ssd immediately shuts down as it is connected on the DVD port. Not talking about problems with the drive, but problems with the OS as it is installed there. As far as I know when you shut down your pc windows takes some time to save any work in the background (windows processes for example) so when you power up your pc again there won't be any problems, but as you said in the video, the ssd will shut down immediately or almost immediately. The question is, would that affect the OS?
Matias Gomez I've been using this setup for myself more than 2 years now without any trouble. I have a feeling that the process you're talking about is completed very quickly in a SSD as I haven't seen any data become corrupt or BSOD in mine. Hope it helps and happy new year :) 🎉

Hi friends. I changed my hhd for a new SSD. Everything works well, the laptop's speed is so fast. But I have a problem with touchpad, it's not recognized by windows 10 so it doesn't work. I checked a couple of times the connection cable of touchpad and it's seems to be well connected, so I don't know what is wrong. Also I tried to install Asus driver for touchpad but I can't to do that. I need your help please!!
Your problem is the connection cable. It is very sensitive when in and out. Check with a magnifier if I am right.
Re install you windows again and install asus smart gesture driver

there is windows program to transmit wimdows from hdd to ssd, i dont know program name but if you search it you get result
Hi Bro. Thank for the tutorial. I have upgraded my SSD as you did in this tutorial. did you know that the optical bay connection type is SATA 2 or SATA 3 in this lop top (also k555l)? if we put SSD in the optical bay, this reduces the speed?

All started to work after updating the BIOS.
До обновления БИОСа SSD не виделся, а загрузка шла со старого HDD, установленного вместо DVD.
Xardos You could have just unplugged the old HDD and let the notebook boot with only the SSD in it. That's how I did it. Anyway, glad to know the BIOS update worked for you + you now have the latest BIOS. Cheers :)

i have an asus 56vj with 1 tb hdd, i want to upgrade to an ssd and put a caddy on it. i have two alternatives:
1- clone and replace the hdd by the sdd si i can run all my programs from my new ssd, and then put the hdd on the caddy or
2- or keeping the hdd right where it is and just put the ssd on the caddy

Gas Media Bus speed of these ports are much higher than the drives and yes the SSD in the caddy can be used as a primary storage for the OS. I have been personally using the exact same setup for more than a year now without any problem. Cheers! :)

Hi. I just want to ask, I already replaced my main hdd with a SSD (Samsung EVO 850 250GB) Which contains my OS as well as my other files. Im using the exact same laptop as in the video and I want to remove my optical drive and replace it with a caddy, to lengthen the storage space. I am probably gonna get the same one as my main storage or 500GB, or which one do you recommend for SSD? Will it affect any files inside this 2nd storage? If lets say I install steam games to this secondary storage, will there be any sudden power failure? Please advise, Thank you man
WarriorDeAceR Sorry for the late reply. If you want to use 2 SSDs then you have absolutely nothing to worry about. For example, my OS was in the SSD and so was my steam client but my r6 siege game files were in the HDD and it worked without any issue. Hope it helps :)

Great video yaar. But why not just replace the mechanical hard drive and leave the CD ROM?
His laptop has a 1tb hdd and replacing it with an 1tb ssd is very expensive. The method shown in the video is much cheaper and you get to keep the 1tb hdd and upgrade it to 1250gb if you get a 250gb ssd for example. If you frequently use the optical disk drive then the method in the video is obviously not for you, but there is a lot of people who don't use it, and many modern laptops don't include it anymore.
@@ofardo8046 good point. I only use the laptop for school and business stuff maybe light gaming. I think a 500GB would be fine for it.

Hello I have asus x555uj whose card that hooks up with the hard disk is broken and therefore now the pc is unusable, if I buy the caddy, the system starts without problems?
When i put the SSD at the HDD slot and HDD at caddy bay, it is true that i hear the 'click' sound when restart the laptop, Shut down is normal. Then i try HDD at stock slot and SSD Caddy: Shut down is normal (because there is a command "" stop everything before shutdown) but every time when i restart, the 'C0 Unsafe Shut down Count' increase by 1. I think Deep Roy is right, the mainboard thought that was the DVD, so it will cut the power. So i guess, just shutdown the laptop for safety
So will it be fine if I just never restart?

SSD works better in the primary HDD slot not in caddy
but in this video he said that if you put hdd in caddy the laptop will cut its power in asus x555 series, did it happen to you?
@@izukieternalart it cuts the power a little sooner than it would if it was in primary. I don’t carry or restart my laptop much so it doesn’t bother me at the moment.

One issue with your guide, if you check the old dvd drive you pulled out there's a latch attached on it with 2 screws on the back, said latch is used to secured the drive to the computer itself using a screw, something you failed to do in this video, meaning the drive can be pulled out from the laptop with relative ease. Bad guide, missing few important steps such securing the caddy to the laptop!
Vash Baldeus If you look carefully the Espada SS95U caddy does not have the latch most probably because of universal compatibility. About the caddy releasing itself, well, the fit is very tight in this slim laptop and I've been personally using this setup for more than a year now, carrying it in my backpack without anything of that sort happening. Also once you've put the plastic cover of the dvd-drive on the caddy it becomes flush with the notebook's surface which makes it even more difficult to pull out accidentally. Hope it helps :)
Deep Roy thing is, the caddy has screw holes right at the same spot where the dvd drive has its latch screwed. meaning you can move it from the dvd drive onto the caddy.

A standard 2.5 SSD would fit .. most of the SSDs you see SSDs are 2.5 SSDs .. although you'll need to buy the caddy seperately

Aziem Abdullah I've used a program called "Minitool Partition Wizard". In the program there is an option called "Transfer OS to SSD". This worked fine for me.
