In this video, we show how to fully transfer your Windows operating system and Data to another storage drive without losing your Windows license and without losing any files or applications. The new storage drive, in this case, could be an SSD or HDD.
This can be used when upgrading from HDD to SSD, replace a failing disk, mirror your PC to another PC, or upgrade to a larger storage disk without losing anything.
If you observe any changes in the procedures due to change in minitool version, please read the article for updated instructions: www.easytechst...

Does it delete everything off the original drive? I want to keep the stuff on the original drive
It didnt work it said notenough memory
So my computer is stuck on the logo screen, is that normal?
EasyTechs please help
@@noskis9432 did you get this fixed?
The fact you included the sound of a failing HDD gets you a like. Great detail! 👍🏽
Thanks for the feedback!
@@EasyTechs can i format my old drive without issues ? Planning to use it as an extra external drive :)
Great
Aegon Targaryen certainly can do that with an external HDD enclosure. Hope this helps! Sincerely Chris.
My HDD makes this sound but it has for quite a while. I think that people should understand that this noise means your computer isnt going to crash immediately. It could be years away. Mine has been making noises for a year now
BTW, people like me DO APPRECIATE people like you taking the time to make these vids, so THANK YOU for your time & effort.
Man, I just wanted to say I was reading through your description and you've put so much effort into it; AND, you're quite honest and open with what you put in there in terms of affiliates etc. Honestly, it's refreshing to see that kind of professionalism in a video description. I was on my lunch yesterday and was looking through some YT vids about putting Windows 10 onto an ssd, and saw your video. And then this evening I accidentally saw it again and so I decided to watch it through. Very helpful.
Thanks so much bro
So I tried this minitool and it failed and then i tried aomei backupper it worked, wonder if minitool cannot clone disk with bad sectors
Thanks for the video. No matter how people complain about your accent, I can understand it easily.
Good to know it helped you out, thanks for the feedback!
Hey nothing wrong with a West Indian accent, love it. Thanks for the help.
I actually like his accent 😳
Denis Palchak West Indian as in from West Indies, most of whom are of African descent. Quite different to Indians from the subcontinent, although there are Indians in the West Indies as well.
@@andrewleigh3 That's a Nigerian accent and not west indies like the Carribean
The most professional an in-depth video on the subject I have seen on RUclips :)
So generous of you!, thanks for the feedback
ok, this is easily one of the most detailed drive swapping videos on youtube. thank you so much! you focused on what is important and that is so great.
I got stuck on the "select destination disk" step. A "disk 1" only shows up and I just can't press the next button with Mini Tool. But I finished my cloning process with AOMEI Partition Assistant successfully.
This video is super useful, well edited, quality of both audio and video is very good and your speech is clear. Well done and thanks.
Good to know it helped you out, thanks for the feedback
True
I just finished copying my entire system drive into a brand new SSD. Awesome tutorial, worked like a charm and without a single hitch. All partitions, files, etc. preserved as if nothing had ever happened
Good to know it helped you out, thanks a lot for the feedback!
It's always best to do clean install of windows
If you are doing this and u see a paywall, delete the application and get the older version of this same application which is linked in the description of the video (in an article thing). The older version is completely free and worked for me
a key point every one of these videos have not put in is if your laptop fails to boot from your new SSD - ensure you go back to the program partition wizard - >> click on the new ssd disk -> Redbuild MBR (on new disk) ->> Apply. After that the boot up sequence worked - nobody else has put this on their videos - I found it on a forum
The best tech video I have seen in years. No fluff, clear and understandable. U even included links to the items used to create the video! Stellar performance sir! Keep up the exceptional work.
So generous of you Tj, good to know it helped you out and thanks for the feedback
Finally moved windows 10 to my ssd, and it feels like a whole new laptop! It's so much faster. Thank you. Your video really helped
Good to know it helped you out, thanks for the feedback
Amazing video and very professionally done, thank you very much. Unfortunately it seems that the MiniTool Partition Wizard wont allow you to clone a SSD for free anymore, real pity. I tried and at 13:09, where you have to choose between A or B and click Next>, you are diverted to a webpage where you have to buy the Pro version. It's fair i guess, I am a one time user so I will search for an open source app.. Thanks again for the very professional tutorial.
did you manage to find another solution if so how? im currently stuck on how to move windows to my kingston ssd but not sure how?
@Velqua yes I did, I used Macrium Software. Its free for a month, but you can buy it for about 60 bucks and own the software. It works like a charm, did three clones.

You have to go to the guy’s website he has in his description (the one that says easytechstutorials)! On that webpage he has 2 download links to the versions (10 and 11) of minitool that are free. DON’T just enter the website from the video because that’s a newer, different version that’s not actually free. Your computer might flag the older version download as spam or a virus, so you have to go in and approve it. The steps work you just have to get the older different version!
May I just tell you that your tutorial was a perfect presentation of how to change from one HD to another. I wanted to go from 240GB to 1T and you made it seems so simple. I hesitated for quite a while, but finally bit the bullet and the results are a perfect transition. Thank you so much!!
Good to know it helped you out, thanks for the feedback
Now that I've successfully done the above, I find that when I boot up, it is so painfully slow! Any suggestions please??
Video is underrated..... Best work....

that's injustices......
BTW Thanks for wonderful tutorial....
Migrating OS funtion is not FREE in this softwere. you have to pay for their pro verison in order to get work!
Unfortunately, the software is not free anymore. They allow you to install and go through all the steps for free, but as soon as you click finish they ask for $59 dollars to unlock "advanced features" before it clones.
Over a year later and the only step that has changed involves the Minitool Parition Wizard's updated interface. The transition to and installation of my new SSD was flawless, and I couldn't be happier. Thank you so much for your help!
Worked flawlessly. I used version 11.6 using these same steps. Thank you for the tutorial.
No viruses in one year?
Unironicly the most effectively explained, profesional video i have ever seen.
Agree
The easiest and most hopeful tutorial of this ever. Thank you kind sir
Being from India, I find your accent really, really great. Well that's that and your videos are very informative and methodical.
I literally just installed a new ssd in my laptop. I found your content really helpful.
Good to know it helped you out, thanks so much for the feedback!
This isn't free anymore. When I click "finish" at the "boot from destination disk" screen it says I need to upgrade 🤦🏻♂️
Read article in description for updates
@@EasyTechs what do you mean ? could u send us a link of an updated video maybe
I got the same. I paid the $60 because i have no other safe reasonable option.People need to make money and this is a reasonable price in my opinion.
@chew bacca couldnt agree more, i also paid the 60$, 100% worth having a safe option
@@enohbajramovski211 He added a link in the description that says (UPDATE). Click on that and there will be a link to download the free version before they changed it.
Update: this still works but you need to have at least a professional license because migrating the OS using Minitool partition wizard is not for free anymore. Still, great video. :)
it keeps asking for payment there is no free version m8
As of today (Feb 26, 2020) this process works as explained in the video. I executed a flawless SSD upgrade on my Dell OptiPlex "C" drive using the process outlined here. Thank you very much for the excellent video. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
Good to know it helped you out, thanks so much for the feedback!
Concise, precise and very well explained, made it look very simple. Excellent tutorial!
Good to know it helped you out, thanks for the feedback!
Thanks... through your video successfully updraded my 256 gb ssd to 1tb ssd without losing any data. Love from India.
thanks for this worked a treat, took 3 hours 20 minutes for 200gb filled hard drive to transfer on to the new ssd for anyone wondering with a mixture of pics, documents and music
this is the best video I've seen of this on youtube, everything explained in details....I love it.
Good to know it helped you out, thanks so much for the feedback!
Hardly anybody is this concise! Especially since so many people think they have to act crazy to get more views. Thanks for this great vid. You even address a lot of potential misconceptions or things that could go wrong.
Good to know it helped you out Robert, thanks so much for the feedback
A GOLDEN tip for any one who has an issue with the external ssd doesn't show up,, just simply don't plug it all, enter the half of it and you will be ok.
If anybody reads this comment, it's not working for you because your using a new version of the minitool partition wizard.
In the description, easytechs put a link to where you can download the old
10 and 11 versions which work for free
The software not free anymore
I used it 2 months ago and it was. There's different versions.
2:28 just keeping this time stamp for myself
like somebody already said you even included the sounds of a borken hdd for people qho don't know, it's really helpful coming from someone whos hdds has broken twice
The free edition does not support the migration of OS from old Hdd to SSD
Thank you so much!!! Unlike most HD cloning software that claim to be free, this tutorial demonstrates a legitimate free functioning software to get the job done very easily. Most other free software only allows you to clone very small unrealistic drive capacities and / or does not allow anything other than identical direct cloning with no partitions whatsoever. This tutorial was flawless in helping me swap out my laptops end of life HD to a new SSD. Thanks again!
Good to know it helped you out, thanks so much for the feedback!
REPLY
the partition wizard is no longer free, however if you just search for an earlier version (around 10.1) it should work no problem
Thanks for the feedback. The article in the description has updated instructions
How do you select a different version
@@jaredweeks256 check the update if u scroll it has the older version
Man O Man!!! About 6 videos Ive watched and this 1 is the one I needed! ... I thank you so very very much for your time, effort and the details you smashed in here... DETAILED STEP BY STEP! Thanks, Appreciated!
Be aware that the 12.5 Edition of Mini Tool Partition Wizard (available as of now) requires a paid subscription to use the 'Migrate OS to SSD/HD Wizard function.'
No it doesn’t
Thanks! I've watched 5 or 6 of these videos, but this one is the best. Nice clear video, clear speech, and speaking not too fast.
Good to know it helped you out, thanks for the feedback
Sadly the program is not free anymore. Edit. Found the answer a bit down in comments.
What’s the answer??
This minitool has too many errors come out, I just turned to another aomei partition assistant to clone my disk, and it wored well.
i think AOME was easy to use but option free is now gone any ideas sir im stuck bigtime
This is exactly what I needed to check with before I did it. Thank you.
There is a paywall now :(
There is one detail that you didn't mention. That the partition software recreates each partition from the original hdd as normal (non-hidden) partition. I followed these steps and now I have these extra drives in Windows Explorer for partitions that were previously hidden (e.g. recovery drive, etc). I rewatched your video and saw you had the same result but glossed right over the fact.
Did you find any fix for it?
Use MiniTool Partition Wizard and change drive letter to none on partition that you want to hide.
You created a problem where there is none? By default it does that it doesn’t matter whether it shows or not it still stays partitioned 💀
Thank you! You saved me £160 and I have successfully upgraded to ssd's for two of my pc's. I liked and I'm a subscriber!
Talks slow and clearly, breakdown every steps. Dude, you're amazing. Thank you
Superb tutorial. Just what I was looking for. Great presentation at perfect pace and very well spoken. Thank you.
Good to know it helped you out, thanks so much for the feedback!
VIEWERS: If the laptop doesn't recognize the SSD attached to your USB, dont panic. You just need to initialize it in Disk Mannagement first. That includes formatting, assigning a drive letter, etc.
Thank you so much
Initialize as MBR or GPT?
@@markovucilovski9876 Usually MBR
I've successfully copied drives and am now running on the SSD system BUT now the computer will no longer MAP external drives connected via USB. It recognizes them by sound connect and it shows up for a disconnect icon BUT I can not see the drive letter being assigned to it so I can not open it. How do I fix this??? I have tried removing and restoring USB driver; I tried all the ports with the same result, I tried running hardware and usb repair with no change..... wth??????????
The version of the software in this video is 10.3. The current version of the software is 12.6, and it looks like they moved the migration options to the paid version of the software. There's probably a number of similar software options out there, I tried one called AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard 9.5.0, and using the "Clone Disk" feature seemed to do the same things in this video (keeping the partitions from the original drive, expanding the main one to fill the drive). There is another Clone OS to Drive feature that seemed to work differently, didn't test that one. Just skipped all of the stuff asking you to purchase.
Note: This is just my experience, not intended to be a guide.
I was migrating from an old garbage HD to a bigger SSD. For the Disk Clone Wizard, selected the Quick option. Next selected the Source drive, then the Destination drive (there's a check box to optimize the performance if the destination drive is an SSD - no idea what this is, just checked it), then selected the Clone option "Fit partitions to entire disk". Next were some words about after the migration. Clicked "Finish", then "Apply" in the top left. It gave an estimated time, clicked Proceed. On the next screen I just kept it as "Restart in Windows PE mode". After restarting, I received a warning that the disks differ. I selected Cancel to stay in the Windows PE Environment (the first time I listened to it and had it reboot into the Pre-boot whatever mode, but it just errored out saying it didn't have any instructions and rebooted back into normal Windows). In the Windows PE Environment the AOPMEI software started, and I just selected all of the options again. After proceeding through it all, it started the disk transfer. Seems like the estimated time was pretty close. Once it was done, received a "Congratulation" message, and didn't really know what to do from there so I closed the application and the computer automatically went into Startup Repair. Skipped the nonsense and just had it shut down, and swapped the drives. There was a little bit more nonsense where it booted back into the Startup Repair (didn't even need to go into the BIOS) but after another shut down/restart I was back in business and everything was working.
Does this still work in 2020? Also does this work if I’m on pc switching to a ssd??
So you don't need to reactivate the Windows(license key) if you clone the old disk to new disk and use the same Computer/Laptop? I need help, for clarification. Thank you.
Yep, the signprint of your hardware with you licence key was embed into your OS, and if you clone it AND install the new disk in the same computer, it's ok and you wont reactivate your licence...
I was all ready to go and just when I thought I was a click away from migrating my OS to my new SSD, I found out that the new "Free version" of Minitool does not do this unless you go pro. Great video though.
Check link in the description for updates
@@EasyTechs I ended up using Macrium, a very similar software. OS migration is still on the free version. Thanks for responding my comment, though.
If you install mini tool shadow maker (which is part of same the mini tool install) then you can clone your hardrive / OS etc for free.
The tool did not work for me. After install the program and following the steps closely I could see my new Hard-drive but it would not let me select next to transfer the information.
I don't know if this is just me but this isn't free
You are the best! You always explain everything that one can think of, and you do that in a very logical and very clear way. Thank you for your great instructional videos!
So generous of you Branislav , thanks so much for the feedback !
@@EasyTechs You are generous to post all these great instructions! Thanks to your video about how to upgrade Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, I did it without any problem, and I now have Windows 10 on my older laptop, which I thought was not possible. I already sent your video about Windows upgrade to several of my friends, because it was the best among 15-20 videos I viewed on RUclips. So, thanks for your generosity!
Cant migrate with the free version. Dont download this.
Check the video description where it says "update" and read the article. You just have to install older versions of the software (10.0 or 11.5) which allow you to migrate for free.

This cannot be done with the free version now. It will work and then stop and say that feature is only for Pro version (costs like $130 I think)
You can search mini tool partition wizard 10.3 and it should work

aomei backupper is better than this one because the mini tool will not clone actually.
Is it free?
Your opinion doesn't matter. The tutorial works. Stop trying to confuse the viewer
This worked! Just note it's free to download but won't start until you pay for it, but it works where nothing else did. Thanks for the tip on Pro licences too.
this is making me try and license mini tool once I get to the final step of migrating......
Finally?!? i've been doing that for years

Can i do the same when i want to move from larger HDD into smaller SSD where not all storage is used and can fit into new SSD ?

This video is Gold!, went to your web page, downloaded the wizards older version and worked like a charm
this is the same process on a desktop but just with an added sata cable right
So in bios, I don't have to change boot priority? It will work automatically?
daniel Jimenez if you keep old hard drive hooked up to motherboard you’d then have to go to bios change boot priority then reboot it’ll allow you to format old drive as it will be now running on new drive hope this helps!
JimmyJamyShamy the same process as this except it won’t automatically change the drive boot order have to manually change it in the bios settings, unless you unplug the old drive and you keep the new drive only it should auto detect hope this helps!
I reached the steps until 5:50 the next window popped up asking me to upgrade(pay) for pro edition even if I exit out or cancel that window and go back to main page it doesn’t allow me to apply
