Thanks for another great video. By the way, DCS also has an active pause feature where you won't move but you can still work buttons. It's in the UI Layer keybinds, I forgot what the default was, I just set mine to my keyboard's pause button.
Friend of mine is a Chinook Pilot, and I thought Cool, it's a cargo/transport copter, but the more I learned about it, the more I realized it is a BadAss copter to say the least. Amazing what can be done with it, and Fast too. Thank you so much for the lesson! My buddy is overseas right now in Iraq, but when he gets back we gonna try some missions with it. Hopefully multi-crew by then!
Great job man. Looking forward to the vids. You’re gonna be the DCS go-to guy for this module like Casmo is for the Apache and Kiowa. Buckle up! 16:9 looked good. Most of us are probably watching on the phone so it helps a lot.
Thank you so much for explaining all this stuff in such great detail. As it is a transport heli it is all about flying. I just hope you will keep doing this as the module progresses. And BTW the display ratio is just perfect for watching on a laptop.
Much better aspect ratio. Amazing video! Looking forward to see more. It would be nice a walk around with brief explanations of it design and capabilities.
thankyou for such a short & content rich video, appreciate you sharing your knowledge, I'm looking forward to getting into the CDU & doing some x-country nav work... she is a big girl with so much power....
Great content, thank you! I wish we got all of the stability systems and trim systems working, not just some of it, unless I did something wrong, it was not all that nice to fly, alot of chasing the cyclic or rather its positioning but other than that, I love the responsiveness of it and I know ED will knock it out of the park, we'll just have to stay cool, have a few pallets of drinks and wait a bit! The Apache was unflyable for 6 - 8 months, it was just disgusting but once they sorted it, it was like a all new helicopter, I could tell when that moment changed instantly from a streamer without him telling me and I instantly bought it. No regrets since. My favorite helicopter is still the Mi8 and Hind, not because of them being old soviet birds so much, as people think, but becaus they simply fly the best in DCS imo. Anyway, awesome content! Love hearing from people with real world experience!
@@47Driver Oh I'm sure. I wouldn't have if I had someone spotting for me. I just wanted to see if I could get the rear wheels down and hold it. I'm sure you've seen this, but damn that rear rotor gets close to that terrain towards the end: ruclips.net/video/SWb40UEXGMU/видео.html
Awesome brother, good demo. :) I look forward to them continuing to refine the thing and making it even better. I want to see normal operations and emergency procedures work properly on it. Steep and shallow approaches, engine failures on takeoff/landing/cruise, etc. Good times....
I got onto a shithook like that in the Stan after we blew an LZ. The tail gunner was pointing a red flashlight because the rotors were too low to board. As soon as the TG flashed the red light the infantry just started running to get on. we had to stop and tackle some soldiers that morning lol
She seems to be fairly easy to handle, which I like. I don’t know if it is me, but can’t seem to get to hands off flying. She wants to climb or dive if not managed. Might just be the fact that I haven’t added any curves. I’m very interested in the FMC system and hope they model that out more. That is one of the attractions to MSFS, is managing the airliner’s computer for the flight plan, so that is exciting. Great video, I’m thinking about a larger monitor myself. Right now I’m at 34 inches and I’m thinking 45 or 50. I do VR as well, but when learning, nothing beats being able read documentation and have the aircraft up as well.
Ive got a 32inch curved 2560x1440p monitor (older too about 4yr old technology wise) and it displays this ratio more than clear!! and my monitor is more what most of your viewers and DCS players can afford so, there's some verification for yah!
Good video - absolutely don't worry about submitting ultra wide. Many of us DCS monitor players have them and if someone doesn't they can just get a zoom-to-fill plugin for their browser
That’s a terrible idea. While a good chunk of his audience might have ultrawides he’s cutting himself at the knee by asking people to do something to watch his content
Do you find the aircraft handles like the real thing? When at cruise I find I have to use the pedals to keep it straight which doesn’t seem realistic like the airspeed has no affect on the side of the fuselage and engine pylons
Would you say that the DCS Chinook flight model accurately represents the actual helo? People seem to think it's currently lofty and overpowered - but they are presumably flying at very low weight in a heavy-lift air frame.
Hey great video and good flying/ taxiing!! I wanted to ask you what is that hand rail or some sort of rail running down the side of the Chinook on the lest side? Is that an antenna or something? Thank you and appreciate you videos! Good learning materials!!!
@@47Driver Thanks for clearing that up for me! I’ve thought it was everything from an antenna to a rail for maintenance crews to parachute harness hooks for static line jumps😂
Thanks for the great videos! Question for you as a real CH-47 pilot. Some user reviews are saying the module has some wonky physics, spaceship/ufo like with weird handling. But they also are not real pilots. How do you think the flight model holds up in its current EA launch? Are there UFO like tendencies when pushing the envelope? Or is the accuracy and realism pretty good, save for the missing stabilization features coming later? I imagine a dual rotor helicopter will feel and handle different than a single rotor, so I am not sure what to make of some of the early user reports. Cheers!
Flight model definitely needs some work, but this will be fixed later with the full implementation of AFCS and LCTs. I talk about this a bit in my previous video. Still a very fun module so far.
@@47Driver Thanks for the reply! So it is not so much an unrealistic physics issue like some say? In this case, it would simply be a matter of not having the full flight systems implemented? Or is it a both/and?
@@DS52116 wouldn't call it unrealistic. The aircraft does things that a tandem rotor would do if not for all the fancy stability systems we have to have on board to safely fly these things. I think they're pretty accurately modeling tandem rotor physics which is a feat on its own. Tandem rotor aerodynamics are by far the most complex thing ED has attempted to model so far.
Thank you! 16:9 is the most used monitor in the US currently. As you know, and said, there are a plethora of new aspect ratios coming out, because of VR. I say this as a computer tech! (wish I would have been a pilot!)
I usually fly DCS helicopters with the spring removed from my pedals. I have a dampner too. Is this realistic for the Chinook? I noticed the special options don't have the normal options to ignore pedals while trimming so this doesn't work right after the moment anyway. Not sure what is better though. Thanks for the videos, I expect these will be popular! New format is perfect.
Sorry if you said this in video, but if you did I missed it. What is the purpose of 2 wheel taxiing beyond making landings safer? For pure taxiing, why would you ever do this over using the steering knob?
In case of power steering failure or a similar issue with power steering. Also if I've pulled forward into a parking spot and need to back up on the ground for whatever reason. Also, cause it looks cool.
They should add a small window you can bring up that shows the back which would represent a crewman’s view to aid with this. We all know George could never do this.
I appreciate these videos! I hear you saying thurst and cyclic, are these separated in the keybinds on dcs for this? Or are you using these terms interchangeably?
Not really in line with the type of videos I want to make on this channel. Added a filter to my game capture for Crop/Pad. Left and Right dimensions at 1280, Top and Bottom at 0. Then changed my canvas resolution to 2560x1440 and my output resolution to 2560x1440.
I think the new aspect ratio cut off the control indicator. Also if you get the chance try using a VR headset, I'd be interested how it compares. What controller are you using for the collective? Inverse Warthog throttle is the thing I've been using but maybe not enough feel on it. Maybe a curve would help.
Not sure what control indicator you're referencing. The little red square that shows the position of all the flight controls? If so, I don't fly with that enabled so that's why you didn't see it. I use a nice Arduino based collective controller I bought on Etsy for around $160. Works very well.
@@47Driver Thanks a lot, that's what I meant. Was just a misunderstanding, thought you had referred to the control indicators during the video.
