SWG Legends currently 1k players online at almost all time even on dead hours its like 700 or 800 players. START TODAY what an experience. If you know the game Kenshi this will give you the same vibes except its an MMO
I believe the same thing. I always had hoped to see visual fidelity like in frostbite battlefront paired with the gameplay mechanics of SWG. UE5 is of course an excellent platform to pull something like SWG 2.0 off. One can only dream. I think Disney simply will never see the potential in this as they are all too reminded of the partial failure that SWTOR was and they won't want to take the risk especially now that the new single player campaign games are showing success.
SWTOR was a failure because it wasn't a sandbox MMO. It was pretty much a storyline on rails. And it was just too "cartoony" for me. Like the Clone Wars cartoon made into a game.@@RayBen555
I know of two other games that are doing that. Planeshift and Rising World. Its not easy, and in some cases the visual improvement is marginal. I suspect in the next year a programmer will come up with an AI game mesh upscaler. Blenders got people working on it. The engine needs to be able to support normals at the very least and PBR at max, both with built in compression algorithms so the game does not get too big for your harddrive. The UI, quest, weapon effects need less work.
Id still be playing R3 if they didnt get high off their own farts, and do weird ass shit like sms verification( I dont give AAA gaming companies my phone number, some rando fan page isnt getting it) and banning afk sampling. When they launched I was making literally server best crafting stations and more. Having a blast with the wife, getting her into the game. Didnt actually do much afk sampling as I was crafting server best harvesters. It's just the attitude behind the change that bothered me. The sms thing was so batshit crazy though. It is a shame because the server had potential to be the best *Edit just saw the part about Drag events and changing profession names to remove -man. Yikes. Beyond redemption at this point.
The fact that they call people bigots for not sharing their zealot cult behaviour is enough warning flags to stay away. Giving them your ID and phone number is like painting a target on your back for a psychopath. Reading about the drag and lgbt events means they support grooming and are a bunch of degenerates with mental health issues.
@@Tekkommo They added it after launch. It is possible theyve removed it again, but if so it is too late. They went full woke rainbow mob, so nothing else matters anymore. It could be an official swg classic server with everything we've ever wanted in a star wars game and I wouldnt support it if they insert 2023 politics and rainbow hysteria into it.
Just to be 100% clear so there's no confusion: Legends is the reigning server. Legends is the most polished version, it's where most people are at, and this game really relies on having more than 1-2 hundred people online. Legends may not be the server that EVERY player flocks to, but that's because some people are willing to settle for a ghost town server just to be able to play their ideal version of the game.
You hit the nail right on the head with crafting. I played SWG as a crafting bounty hunter. Not having the ability to constantly sell great seriously kills half the game, and a higher player count hurts the bounty system too. AFK was fairly common back when I played retail. I fully recall having a macro to level my weapon skills too, not just gathering (sampling) The virtual requirement of buffs was way overpowered. It wasn't a small difference, it was almost as drastic as having resurrection sickness in WoW. As far as rotating resource RNG, I'll never forget the weekend I spent eons farming meat that had 95+ overall quality, taste and pretty much above 85 for everything else. Those 2 days made me more money than the other 9 months of playing.
There was a bug that allowed Doctor/Medical resources to go too high, and therefore the era of the Super-Buffs started. They were so OP and the resource rotation lasted so long that SOE had to balance the game around the existence of the buffs, or take the resources away which they refused to do. - That was back when the HAM system was so screwy that it was impossible to equip a full set of Composite armor without good Doctor buffs. I don't miss that stuff at all, but the game systems themselves were amazing.
As someone who was banned from all of the forums at launch of NGE for my own "essay" about John Smedley, I appreciated the twist at the very end. More seriously, appreciated your work and it is nice to see this is still alive. I think JTL would be enough to bring back some friends.
Great video Rommni. If only we had some of these improvements the EMU would be sooo much fun. Hope they get JTL right cuz that used to be my fav part of the game back in the day.
The reality is , if you didn’t play SWG official when it was pre-cu , or the EMU between 2011-2015 then you missed the boat. When SWG was released I was too young to really get the full experience but I was blessed to play the EMU in 2014 around the time they released the update that fully implemented beast master and bio engineer. 1200-1500 players active everyday (I’m sure plenty were dual-logged) but there were active people EVERYWHERE. Tons of people chatting and dueling outside and inside eisley cantina. People hanging out in coronet and theed all the time. Always something to do, always some drama going on, actual active player cities. People were even creating their own gambling games using the six sided dice item. It was magic , and it’s a shame that most players will never get to experience the EMU or really any modern pre-cu server with an actual active community. It’s never going to return to those times , even when Jedi was re-implemented around 2016 or 2017 it never brought back that same community feel.
The challenge with big ship combat is having a place where they make sense and small ships are excluded. It needs to be a kind of arena or ideally several interlinked arenas. Players can go on the big ship and raise hell, party, sabotage or defend but that's separate from the bridge play. Bridge officer should not be a class but a skill set with optional uniforms. The big ships slug it out with big weapons that are analogies to the fighter weapons and melee combat powers. That's a lot of work though. The models, etc are all readily available.
Let’s also put our there that SWGEmu admin and dev team are more of a professional setting. If you post something on Reddit they don’t ban you from the game because they are butthurt. They keep in game bans to in game activities. 10/10
Maybe It should be easy, but we could do something about It to improve it. For example, you could have one force user toon after have other first toon and master 2 professions with him and have to play the game at least for 4 months. After that you could have one force user character and this character you can only play with It after use your first toon for one hour per day (after that you can use your Force user Toon for 24 hours). To me, i would redone the FRS entirely. We should do something like Rebels and Empire faction points. You could change your rank by having enough Jedi experience, and buy the Jedi Robes, an NPC Padawan (who will only attack other Force users) and a Jedi/Sith Temple (like Empire/Rebel bases) at cost of force experience. In the Temple you have Jedi/Sith Terminals with missions. If you die, your toon will be blocked and you need to play with your first toon for 1 hour to unblocked it again. I would include more options to be part of, like the Dathomir witches, Jensarai Order, Dai Bendu Monks and etc, not only Jedi and Dark Jedi. I would give more storyline and purpose to BH profession too. Be part of the Order of Bounty Hunters.
What if the EMU removed buff other from doctors and made it possible players could buff themselves with a droid. You could stock up packs and buff when you wanted to play. Then, cut every doc buff in half. Remove mind damage. Mind damage for healing and part of combat attacks. Part 2. Limit sampling to 1 unit per sample. You are sampling, not stacking bricks while you sleep each night. Part 3. Fix the 'wives' 'kids' 'dogs' extra sampling/housing/afk entertainer bot issue.
For combat you may need to look at the first person shooters the star wars mod for Squad and Arma. It not tab targeting but there are elements there that could be converted into attacks for the game. Deployable cover, etc. The doctor/ entertainer afk problem might be solved by shortening the time to buff, lengthening a cool down and giving them both another more direct combat effect. The doc can create a deployable respawn point and send out small healing drones. The entertainer has a bunch of disguise, concealed weapons and tracking bugs. One of the Star Wars visions shows has a rebel entertainer who is bugging the imperials everywhere.
SWG Attack of the Clones is Pre-CU, however, you can't be incapped by Mind dmg, your HAM is permanently buffed from the start so you're not required to get buffs but they still help as entertainers give a bonus to XP gain. It's a really fun server, custom Jedi unlock, other classes made more viable for combat like Smuggler giving bonuses to pistols, etc, Seasons, and a helpful community. If you're giving the SWG servers a shot, give this one a try as well :)
I logged into Resto because I saw some trailer pop up on youtube. Lets just say after 5mins I logged back out remembering why I stopped playing in the first place.
I get why a Carbineer is more focused on action pools , and a Pistoleer on Health but every weapons should have the ability to focus on any of the 3 pools, and also removing attack costs and encumbrance would be good start.
Swg legends is decent and the NGE is a lot like vanilla pre cu. In that to dominate it’s all about gear, dots, food, etc. but unlike vanilla pre cu it’s got lots of content. Vanilla pre cu is hot garbage for content. However the NGE especially the original version of the NGE was horrendously unplayable.
The lack of diversity of PvP builds in pre cu swg was hilarious. I remember one of the final forms was: step 1) either Rifleman, sword or bounty hunter/pistoleer with eye shot. Do mind damage basically step 2) wear no armor except for a composite helmet with stun res. step 3) get mind buff and crates of Valarian brandy to buff mind. That would be 50% of any group fighting a pvp battle, both sides. There were a few oddballs that would should up like dizzy/knock down builds, combat medics with disease dots, stuff like that but mostly it was just mind pool attack/defend builds.
I wish a server would come out that tried to emulate what the developers wanted the game to be. Doc buffs weren't supposed to be so powerful and when crafters figured out how to craft such high HP buffs all the devs did was increase the HP of the NPCs to balance out the combat. But before that when we had no or very weak buffs encumberance mattered as did the stats on your weapons. Combat was meant to be your auto attack with your special abilities played strategically because of how much ham a special attack would take from your ham bar. If someone made a server that recreated that experience I would play again. At least for a little bit. As of now I haven't logged on in years and don't plan to. It's been the same for these past 10 or more years.
At 3:09 you say there is no reigning SWG server most people flock to - I’d say Legends is the reigning server, both in terms of consistent player base and economy. Not to mention developer updates, bug fixes and new content. People still lamenting about the corrupt “wild west” staff it had back in like 2016-2018 really need to get with the times. It’s improved a ton since then and is handled in a much more respectable and professional manner these last few years. Like a complete opposite to that early period. Furthermore, they have done further upgrades on their physical server hardware - that example footage you used of Trips gameplay is almost 3 years old, and he isn’t the brightest individual; I’d suspect his computer itself isn’t too great. What you said is correct in that no matter what is done, a game this old is never going to be perfectly optimised - but I can say with a good current computer and connection, you will get consistently higher frames (60-70fps) in a fight like that. That was a pretty outdated and poor example. Another thing, is again in more recent times they have further reduced the amount of AFKing and credits dropped from basic mobs, while upping the amount dropped from mobs inside heroics and heroic bosses, which was a good change. PreCU combat is janky and outdated in my opinion. Legends NGE combat is much more fast paced, balanced and engaging. Decay isn’t the answer for credit sinking, there is already other consumables which need to be restocked like buffs and power ups. Adding new purchasable items from vendors or new decorations (like TCG items) is a more positive way of doing it in my opinion.
I don’t think it matters what personal computer you have. SWG is janky and the fast paced and client of NGE isn’t that great. I have one of the best PCs you can get (Intel 13700 & nVidia 4070 TI) and if you start to get a handful of things on your screen, performance tanks. The issue with implementing credit changes years after the server launch is just that. There is already hundreds of billions dumped into the economy.
@@Amksed A better system will absolutely have better performance than an old potato computer - which given the age of the game, and the fact it’s free means a lot of the playerbase seem to be playing on potatoes. As I said in my first comment I agree given it’s age and how it runs, it won’t ever be perfect whenever you have more than 50 odd players in one spot. But recent upgrades to server hardware particularly for Restuss on Legends has seen some big improvements to how it was in the past. A better computer will still provide a smoother experience than a potato, that’s just objectively true sorry. Game still gonna be forever busted and buggy though that much is also true.
The client itself presents limitations that no amount of modern hardware will solve. It's just old, built in an engine that wasn't great, 32-bit, single threaded. Yes, you'll see a difference when compared with a computer from 2002, but there is a pretty hard ceiling on performance. @@Stez_AU
First-time player who didn't get to try the original before it died and I'm really enjoying Restoration! I understand that some of you experienced players have been turned off by Resto, but my experience so far has been positive both in game-play and interactions with other players!
For resources, there just needs to be a system in place that ensures one legendary resource per cycle. Ensuring that most stats are over 800. As there are so many different resources in the game, you keep the community on their toes as, one week you might see Insect Meat being the highest resource, with each stats jumping past 800 which is great for medics and docs. Weaponsmiths wont be thrilled, but perhaps next week, Plumbum Iron is at extremely high stats. To balance this even more, have the legendary resource last only 75% as long or even half as long as the rest of the resources for that week/cycle. To assist with the harvester issue, simply shrink their overall surface area. Players are still limited to 10 lots per account, and large harvs still take (What was it, 2? 3?) plots, but they only take up, as an example, 4 'squares' of area instead of 12.
I've thought for a while now that Pre-Cu is not perfect. The combat was rushed and underwhelming. And after years of playing it becomes harder and harder to "make your own fun" when you've been doing the same few things for years with no new features or content. I'm just bored of it nowadays. I like Restoration 3 because I liked the improvements the combat upgrade brought. And I like all the NGE content that it has without using the disastrous NGE gameplay. I also find the way Resto is bringing Jedi in to be very intriguing from both a mechanics and roleplaying perspective. I just wish the admins didn't play favourites or be cliquey. But that's every server. I still remember how much of a nightmare Legends mods and admins used to be if you did anything they took exception to. I heard it's improved since then but I haven't been playing Legends enough to tell.
Do you still play on resto? How is the population? I played it on it like a year ago, got to max level and then stopped as nothing was going on server wise.
While I know this is an older video, I've been an SWG enthusiast for a very long time - since I was a kid and playing in Pre-CU! And honestly, one of the main things that really makes me stick to Legends is the fact it has some measure of PVE endgame content, a point you addressed, and more has been added since the server was re-launched. That's one of the things that would get me to stick with a Core 3 server. Give me something to do that isn't PVP, grinding random shit, or Jedi. JTL might be that wish being granted for me, but the ground game will still have a gaping hole where PVE content could be. Edit: I should add that I also enjoy Roleplay! It's a great game for that, both on Core 3 servers and Legends/Source Code servers. But I still want to play the actual game when I'm not doing that.
The armor sets being progressively better than anything before it was amazing too. It felt like the “technology” in the universe was growing in real time. It made it exciting to see what armor was going to be discovered next that blew composite out of the water lol. But of course that time never came except with RIS and other random armors
Nice video but Chef Wars is won with longevity and consistency not 6 month & leave players:) That was just a battle in the War as I quietly dominated in the shadows! Cliffy
SWG Legends has made THE best progress when it comes to content, server stability, and QoL changes. This guy's statement and video of Restuss PvP is from a loooooooong time ago. I had a Pretty nice PC by today's standards and I'm actively running 130fps. Does the game still lag? Yes, it's almost 21 years old. Is it as bad as portrayed? Not even close. Legends has JTL, Bespin, Battlefields, Invasions, all themeparks from live, heroic instances from live and they even made TWO new heroic instances, their own "world bosses" the amount of content that this fan-based team has done exceeds any other EMU server.
-and troublesome AFK farmers?? can you address this with your experience? outside coronet, the tusken camp north of the palace these two I do know have been there for months now? an additional comment? as you are more expeirenced than I am?
AFK farming has been around since pre-cu. AFKing this game is a bit of a staple in it's mechanics. Along with AFK killing static spawns for random loot. The original developers knew that when they wrote the code. I don't see how AFK farmers are "troublesome" though, are they in your way from completing an objective? Because if so, report them. And Legends will either move their player or disconnect them from the server because running macros (even an AFK) is illegal in any quest-related area that requires combat. Again, something no other EMU server has done. You don't have to worry about AFKers outside of Eisley killing Tuskens for junk loot when you're brand new or trying to level a new pet or whatever.
@@jamesshumar-yu5tg they made alot of no macro zones to combat afk farming in starter areas, they also require afk farmers to have a macro to invite people that need to kill the mobs being farmed, so, if you send them a tell, and dont get an invite, report it.
as a returning player from SOE I was happy to had found SWG, however after a few weeks on LEGENDS version I slowly began to find the mass of AFK +nonplayer-(s) parked in minor mission areas an sidequests really annoying and dissapointing - most importantly when I return weeks and months later to see the same AFK character _(S) (in example outside the Palace on tatooine in the tusken camp an another perfect example outside starport coronet) just reaffirmed my disinterest in the nge style I do still go on long enough to keep my homes paid up and am ok untill I run into a new afk and it just pushes me away again isnt there some form of limitation you can set on these 'unplayed AFK slots'? I cant imagine any new player finding this ok to Not be Able to playthrough
Best games I ever played 1) SWG 2003 2) Elite 1984 3) Lords of Midnight 1984 4) Dark age of Camelot 2001 5) Ultima Online Third Dawn 2001 6) Dungeon Master 1987 7) Bards Tale 1985 8) Everquest 1999 . Where are the games like this today ?
The Jedi has a tendency to force close in fighting in these games reducing the opportunity for any real tactics. What we get is a messy brawl in a dozen square meters. Giving the Jedi a few longer range mind tricks may help. Long range telekinesis is also an option (pull that grenade pin). The Jedi soldier hybrid option, Anakin and Obi Wan used blaster rifles a lot. I can think of a few tricks but I can't code.
I don't really care what the "law" has to say in this regard, games as a service is still a scam and scams are illegal, being able to play the game you paid for legally should never be illegal in any sense, since then that would quite literally break the very law in itself really.
Solve the resource issue by generating 10-15 of each resource ranging from low to high quality and choosing randomly from that list instead of just completely randomly generating a new resource. 2 effects: 1) database bloat as discussed by Raph isn't an issue because its a set number of resource types. 2) future players have a shot at high quality resources. Players will still scramble to find the best resources when they reset.
One of the mechanisms in Lord of the rings online allow players to enter other parts of the time lines. These use reflecting pools; accessing the past via magic memory. Elves and dwarves are long lived, they were there. In the case of humans its you ancestors story your using. Star trek online does the same with time portals and parallel world transporters & holodeck training. In Star Wars a mechanism where a player progresses to a key point where they can access a memory or prophesy holocrons or a world between world portal may make playing in different eras an end game content. That way the player can progress from New Hope era to Mandalorian era and back to the Clone Wars and even the Old Republic era. In stead of different servers for different eras its just different parts of the same world but gated somehow. Open worlds are good but there are cases where go anywhere closes off opportunities.
Population is arguably more important than feature set. Empire in Flames may by my favorite in terms of content, but I don't want to play alone in an empty world. Legends is the only server where I can go out and see a galaxy populated with people. Playing a large game like this while it's deserted is honestly depressing, no matter how cool the features are.
19:35 I disagree. Here in the UK we had ADSL and decent speeds for the time. I set my dancing macro up and would leave it running AFK. I can't remember the location but on Gorath we also had one city on Tatooine where there was an AFK doctor sat in a building in a chair. You'd approach to get your buff then be on your way. Would be running all the time.
I play on resto. Legends is for the player base that wants everything handed to them on a platter. For example: here ya go you little participation trophy winners, we'll give you Jedi to play since you don't want to put the effort in and earn it.
If they would up the mass on some of the nostalgia ships (like the ETA 2 Actis (aka the Jedi starfighter) it might make the ship worth having and the game more enjoyable to play (at least for me)
Legends is king, Resto has my favorite combat, also Disney owns Star Wars and they could end all of the servers with or without the original source code. Side note that drag part was kinda cringe. I don’t care what people do in game or real life, much love, be yourself, and respect others.
As someone who always enjoyed crafting and was a pretty good WS back in the pre-cu days, once real life started happening I dropped from the top 3 on my server to completely unable to compete because I couldn't spend multiple hours every day playing. It broke my heart that a system I loved was suddenly completely inaccessible simply because I couldn't treat it like a full time job anymore. Ever since then I've seen the RNG rolls on time-limited resources that require planet-wide surveying and placing/re-placing harvesters in order to collect what you need as a system doomed to failure for anyone who has life beyond the game. Unfortunately, as much as I'd love to get back into playing SWG in any form, I can't justify the time-cost it would take to play the crafting game I want to play because the competition requires full-time-job commitment.
UO Outlands is a BIG success, they redesigned the whole game in some aspects, including the map. I wish someone would do something like Restoration 3 without the Woke BS and stupid owners. Such a perfect server on paper but the owners screwed it up...
damn is Restoration full of woke shit?! I've only just found out that I can play SWG in 2023 and was daydreaming all day of finally installing this week! But I'm super allergic to woketarded pandering so If there's any of that then I guess I'm gonna have to find a new server haha
SWGEmu is all but dead, even after the server wipe and new server. It immediately went right back to the same old issues, such as certain groups perma-camping Krayts and the Acklay 24/7. SWG NGE emulators like SWG Legends have at least 5 times the population.
I hate how all Pre CU servers are really small, my glory days of this game were PreCU and even though legends has so many plauers , i quit the game the second that patch gutted the game and all my professions in real life, can't bear to try to learn to like it now that its a private server. No matter, I can't get Infinity to work on my steam deck anyhow
Literally over half the people logged into UO Outlands are people macroing skills. The true "active" player count is closer to maybe 200 - 300. You don't get kicked for being afk in UO Outlands and most skills can be macroed to 100. Also, on original UO servers, macroing in anyway would get your account banned. So back in 1999, you had a TRUE 1800 active player server on UO. That's something sandbox mmorpgs dream of doing these days.
It always tickles me when people, how many years later, still piss all over NGE. If you don't like NGE, don't play it. But then folk wouldn't have content for nine people to watch so...
I just remembered, EIF has skyhopper mounts. Not atmospheric flight, but insanely fast speeders that appear well above the ground. They can only be launched from the parking garage. So cool. They also have a holocomm animation for talking to certain npcs, Other cool emotes, new jedi system. events, races, holiday events. So many cool unique things. Too bad they are so small
Nice video, I can never play Legends as NGE is what completely ruined the game, combat is beyond terrible. I liked Restoration 3, as CU was the peak of the game for me, but lack of population makes you just not want to play sadly. Few things I disagree on, you lean towards instant gratification. I feel that having buffs worked the way they did added an extra dimension to the game and made the world feel alive. It is meant to be a sandbox MMO after all. The explanations were in the manual that came with the game, did you not have it or read it? What I find amazing about the old school SWG playerbase, is that everyone complained how bad the combat was. Then when CU came out (which imo was far better) loads complained saying how perfect the combat was (if only they could foresee NGE). When in fact all they missed was their OP afk macro melee character.
I know I'm going to get shot down for this, but I missed experiencing atmospheric flight at the very end, and it was a feature I always wanted. Even way back in 2003 where I didn't even have slimmest hope it would ever exist, ever, I wanted it. I know it's broken with things like collision detection; and people loitering Sorrosub Yachts etc over cities was annoying (especially rolled and yawed every which way). And yes I know there are that are servers that had it, but are now shut down. My new hope is that maybe waaaay down the line some work will be done on it to have it function in a fun, non bonkers way. Maybe things like flight control towers around cities could keep ships out of their airspace, and just give the option to players to land in the starport instantly. Only allowing ships to go so low before they had to land in an open area out in the field. Snap back roll and pitch if the ship isn't moving (this ain't space). Just fixing the general bugginess of it all. I think it could be great (if it's even at all even possible to work on AtmoFlight.) I am a patient man. I know SWG Legends has instant travel vehicles, but it ain't the same man.
I remember I was in Cnet one day beating on a stormtrooper with a hammer and this guy comes up and says you suck and I just say so , Then he's like oh your a TKM/MD you don't suck sorry lol
Stardust has fixed a lot of the issues that you mention. They did away with the HAMs and mind bar completely, and no armor encumberence. All attacks hit the Health bar, and the Action bar is used to do specials. Also, every armor type can be made the same, so you don't see everyone wearing composite armor. If you like Chitin or Bone armor instead, wear it! They've also added several new planets!
Stardust would have potential if they did away with the 3 action limit in the combat queue. Its an ok idea to limit the combat queue over vanilla but 3 is WAY too restrictive and fundamentally transformative to the gameplay, and not in a pleasant way.
The anti-Legends bias is hilarious when it's the most consistent server and has been for years. PreCU combat is slow, broken and outdated. Rose tinted nostalgia goggles.
@@Amksed Are people not allowed to have different opinions? Lol wtf Also this video isn’t exactly a quick watch, I finished it off later and had to add an extra bit of feedback. It’s hardly an unbiased SWG video as the title would imply. It’s heavily on PreCU nostalgia and anti-Legends at the end summary.
is this the combat revamp when you can start as a jedi? Because back in the day, you had to do certain classes find a holocron and perhaps you could become a jedi it was time consuming as fuck, and not even then you where sure. We had like 3 jedis on the whole server pre combat vamp, and we were the biggest and best guild on the server and we had one jedi, they where powerful as fuck back then, took like 3 hours for 2 bounty hunters to take one down.
I played when it came out was pretty fun pvp with my pre nerfed op pistol giving everyone headshots.. today playing without fluid animations and pvp/pve lagcombat is just bad despite any balancing problems, that would be my first problem to tackle as a developer but not sure if the code it even allows it.. also when i see 15 master jedi grouping against 15 other master jedi, id quit the game and choke ... yay i want to be jeeediii please fill the population only with jediiis the game will be so much fun for everyone
Is it correct JTL is only in leaked versions? I like EiF but have been enjoying JTL on resto (never got to play jtl before). Knowing resto is woke is troublesome and I'm not a fan its combat system. Is there anything else running JTL without going through every server ever created?
At the time you commented, yes. Core3 (SWGEmu) has already made a ton of progress in recreating JTL though, and has released a few video updates on the development.
If I may as a streamer/content creator who did the jedi interview with aconite and halo. I wanted to put that here as a prelude to what I am going to say. Resto is by far the easiest to get into as a player, i'm not talking gameplay or mechanics but I click a button to DL the client and make an account and i'm in I don't need to fish for CDs or mess with ISO [ least I think that is it ]] So the barrier of entry is far far lower then every other server. I wish other servers would go this way as it would vastly help others pick a server that suits their tastes. I LOVE SWG and CU hell I might even bend and play NGE but even legends has that requirement. There are things in resto I can't stand which I could make an entire list out of but it woks for me. Great video btw and glad to be a part of the overall SWG community
Resto is definitely NOT the only server that fully installs straight from a launcher. This is exactly the kind of dishonesty that Rommi just talked about in the video
@@aaronbradley54 when did I ever say it was the ONLY one? If you are going to say I’m being dishonest then prove facts. I said that it does launch from a launcher and that lowers the barrier of entry but at no time did I say it was the only one. Nice video, but almost all the changes you asked for in a server are implemented in Restoration. Its a CU server with NGE content, quests and JTL. Immo the way to go if you like CU. EMU is amazing, for like 2 weeks, we have to be honest here and admit pre-CU at the end of the day, is borring. Legends, is NGE, so no crafting and to be honest is a cookie cutter version of the game, we all know it. Why do you feel Restoration needs to be undermined? It is stable, it has a lot of content, all but Jedi (which SHOULD be hard to get), and very active community. I encourage everyone to try Restoration, it is the best option out there, if you like crafting, mixing classes, PvP, and quests.
I ain't supporting pedo groomers. The fact they called other people bigots is enough to stay away from sjw woke restoration. I am glad they had mental breakdown on twitter. They have shown their true colours.
Can't agree with recommending empire in flames. Yes, they have cool goodies... but they also have a toxic, abusive, and unprofessional staff which holds it back from any potential greatness. When they aren't kneejerk banning players left and right without justification, they're driving off entire guilds with their childish behavior. People often ask why the population is so low there when they have some REALLY cool stuff. Well, I just explained why.
SWG Legends currently 1k players online at almost all time even on dead hours its like 700 or 800 players. START TODAY what an experience. If you know the game Kenshi this will give you the same vibes except its an MMO

An SWG II using Unreal Engine 5 would sell like hotcakes.
The UI, quest, weapon effects need less work.
no one has bought a hotcake since like 1934

Id still be playing R3 if they didnt get high off their own farts, and do weird ass shit like sms verification( I dont give AAA gaming companies my phone number, some rando fan page isnt getting it) and banning afk sampling.
When they launched I was making literally server best crafting stations and more. Having a blast with the wife, getting her into the game. Didnt actually do much afk sampling as I was crafting server best harvesters. It's just the attitude behind the change that bothered me.
The sms thing was so batshit crazy though. It is a shame because the server had potential to be the best
*Edit just saw the part about Drag events and changing profession names to remove -man. Yikes. Beyond redemption at this point.
Feel the same R3 owners screwed it!

I never played resto 3 at launch, but when I did they didn't require sms verification. Is this something they removed? I agree that is shady.
@@Tekkommo They added it after launch. It is possible theyve removed it again, but if so it is too late. They went full woke rainbow mob, so nothing else matters anymore.

I fully recall having a macro to level my weapon skills too, not just gathering (sampling)
The virtual requirement of buffs was way overpowered.
This video is exceptional, I believe you nailed every single thing a good SWG server needs.
You could almost say crafters, other than doc/chef, are useless on the EMU with Jedi running wild. Good to see posted more vids Rommi.
Holy fuck I dont know why but that John Smedley bit you clipped together from his keynote had me rolling
Let’s also put our there that SWGEmu admin and dev team are more of a professional setting. If you post something on Reddit they don’t ban you from the game because they are butthurt. They keep in game bans to in game activities. 10/10
Not true. I know first hand they ban people for out of game things
I truly miss this game, thanks for the coverage Rommi!

Becoming a Jedi should not be easy
Swg restoration 3 is for you then
becoming a jedi should not be. (fixed it for you)
@@realduox what u mean not be?

Make your own server and see how it pans out.
Low jedi pop is a top-feature to look for!
If you're giving the SWG servers a shot, give this one a try as well :)
already made a video about it :)
Oh, snap! I didn't see the video lol My B.@@Gospelgg
I logged into Resto because I saw some trailer pop up on youtube. Lets just say after 5mins I logged back out remembering why I stopped playing in the first place.
I'm here for the semantic disagreement on the meaning of "PvP"
I get why a Carbineer is more focused on action pools , and a Pistoleer on Health but every weapons should have the ability to focus on any of the 3 pools, and also removing attack costs and encumbrance would be good start.
Swg legends has far more players
Swg legends is decent and the NGE is a lot like vanilla pre cu. In that to dominate it’s all about gear, dots, food, etc. but unlike vanilla pre cu it’s got lots of content. Vanilla pre cu is hot garbage for content. However the NGE especially the original version of the NGE was horrendously unplayable.
The lack of diversity of PvP builds in pre cu swg was hilarious. I remember one of the final forms was:
step 1) either Rifleman, sword or bounty hunter/pistoleer with eye shot. Do mind damage basically
step 2) wear no armor except for a composite helmet with stun res.
step 3) get mind buff and crates of Valarian brandy to buff mind.
I still enjoy Finalizer. Excited for whenever we get 1.0
At 3:09 you say there is no reigning SWG server most people flock to - I’d say Legends is the reigning server, both in terms of consistent player base and economy.
@@Stez_AU

Resto feature set is the best its team is probably the worst though. I still wish things would go back to how they were before R3 first released.
Sounds like the dev team has changed hands a few times, has that contributed to the issues? @@WhiskeyAfterHours

You really nailed it with the build diversity vs viability thing
Most of what you suggest to improve the game is already on Stardust, not all of it but definitely most of it.
I love the HAM bar system. I recognize it’s not an ideal solution but it’s so damn nostalgic. It made my imagination go wild
Thoughts on Entertainer being changed to Drag Queen?
You should talk to Alpha. They are working on redoing attack of the clones as a 4 month season right meow
The armor sets being progressively better than anything before it was amazing too. It felt like the “technology” in the universe was growing in real time. It made it exciting to see what armor was going to be discovered next that blew composite out of the water lol. But of course that time never came except with RIS and other random armors
RIS had acid vulnerability and Mando was no better than composite. Composite has reigned as king for the entirety of pre-cu unfortunately.
@@jamesshumar-yu5tg they made alot of no macro zones to combat afk farming in starter areas, they also require afk farmers to have a macro to invite people that need to kill the mobs being farmed, so, if you send them a tell, and dont get an invite, report it.
as a returning player from SOE I was happy to had found SWG, however after a few weeks on LEGENDS version I slowly began to find the mass of AFK +nonplayer-(s) parked in minor mission areas an sidequests really annoying and dissapointing - most importantly when I return weeks and months later to see the same AFK character _(S) (in example outside the Palace on tatooine in the tusken camp an another perfect example outside starport coronet) just reaffirmed my disinterest in the nge style I do still go on long enough to keep my homes paid up and am ok untill I run into a new afk and it just pushes me away again

Hello there.
swg evolve is a good server
I don't really care what the "law" has to say in this regard, games as a service is still a scam and scams are illegal, being able to play the game you paid for legally should never be illegal in any sense, since then that would quite literally break the very law in itself really.
Swg Aotc! SoonTM^ . Gonna be wild tho!
"Some PvP gonna go on this time, you think?"

I was hoping the Emu would do okay, but I think they forgot one key component of what made the game good in the later years: content.
I hate how all Pre CU servers are really small, my glory days of this game were PreCU and even though legends has so many plauers , i quit the game the second that patch gutted the game and all my professions in real life, can't bear to try to learn to like it now that its a private server.

10/10 video. Well done!
EIF fixes or addresses pretty much all your concerns with HAM
I just remembered, EIF has skyhopper mounts. Not atmospheric flight, but insanely fast speeders that appear well above the ground. They can only be launched from the parking garage. So cool.
They also have a holocomm animation for talking to certain npcs, Other cool emotes, new jedi system. events, races, holiday events. So many cool unique things. Too bad they are so small
Keeping the dream alive
This game already existed it was called modded JK Academy
MRM/CM for the win
thanks for the info on restoration, dont need to play that rainbow dumpsterfire, whew, dodged a bullet, thanks bruh.
Source is drastically more complex than core3
I have my own OU Server. I would love to host my own SWG JTL based server.
@@TheCausalParadox Personally, I don't find it to be a problem. You only have to pay more attention, no big deal.
@@tipigi3570 Good for you then!
Is Restoration the only CU server?
I would say Restoration isn't even CU to be real with you. CUemu so far is most developed CU project that I've seen.
a server lasting more than a year slowly kills said server because no one wants to join a server they are behind multiple years on
@@realduox this only applies to crafters.
What is this CUEMU you speak of?
I have another video about it :)
@@Gospelgg Is this Project CU?
The anti-Legends bias is hilarious when it's the most consistent server and has been for years. PreCU combat is slow, broken and outdated. Rose tinted nostalgia goggles.
You still talkin’?
@@Amksed Are people not allowed to have different opinions? Lol wtf
Also this video isn’t exactly a quick watch, I finished it off later and had to add an extra bit of feedback. It’s hardly an unbiased SWG video as the title would imply. It’s heavily on PreCU nostalgia and anti-Legends at the end summary.

You’re off your rocker lady.
@@Amksed PreCU boomer
@@Stez_AU
I don’t play PreCU. Study your opponent, loser.
Finalizer will be really better without JrO’s, more population and less toxic racist players like Vitler
Yeah as a semi new player I have fun with it over the others.
It's too bad you left out SWG Infinity. Although not perfect - it is the one with the best ideas and implementation of them.
Ya my friends and I just started playing again and we chose SWG Infinity, really enjoying jt
is this the combat revamp when you can start as a jedi? Because back in the day, you had to do certain classes find a holocron and perhaps you could become a jedi it was time consuming as fuck, and not even then you where sure. We had like 3 jedis on the whole server pre combat vamp, and we were the biggest and best guild on the server and we had one jedi, they where powerful as fuck back then, took like 3 hours for 2 bounty hunters to take one down.
NGE allowed players to choose Jedi right from the start. CU was still an unlock process.
Yeah guess it was the combat revamp that killed the game, its pretty much shit.@@aaronbradley54
I am gonna skip the drag queen star wars.

Sounds like fun to me.

Hell in fact I’d love to see others that do and play them so if you can provide them. Most of the ones I have seen require the discs in some form or fashion though.
NGE = No Good Enhancements!~ With how the subs dropped so massively, ud think SOE woulda reverted it like they did when the Grp exp was removed!~
Played Pre-Cu - NGE an some of the EMU's and was Staff as well for 2 of them. My sub ended 3 days after NGE hit so I quit for a bit!~
You MISSED THE ADK's for Decay!~ You forgot about Image Designers modifying the Attributes to make them work more effectively!~
we need more quality of life added to game we spend way to much time outside the game looking for info on how to complete the task you set out to do rather than playing game itself i spend hours a day looking on net for info on how Too's rather than actually being able to stay within the game an learn from inside the game and not having to constantly alt+tab out and looking for hours than come back to play for 30 minutes and then your back out of the game to look for info again
👍👍
They have shown their true colours.
oh look, a hundred jedi. everyone is a jedi. just like the game was meant to be played.
CatJAM
Can't agree with recommending empire in flames.
Yes, they have cool goodies... but they also have a toxic, abusive, and unprofessional staff which holds it back from any potential greatness.
When they aren't kneejerk banning players left and right without justification, they're driving off entire guilds with their childish behavior.
People often ask why the population is so low there when they have some REALLY cool stuff.
Well, I just explained why.
The follow the quest in nge is just boring. The beauty of swg was freedom
