@@HaydnKamp I have an LS1 with a front sump to clear the diff and am using the 80 series bump stop keeping the steering rod from hitting the sump, the sump also prevents a high steer conversion, I am looking at using a 2008-2012 DMax rear spring up front as it has a center bolt closer to the Hilux front spring so it doesn't move the diff too far forward because I only have 60mm of clearence before I hear smashing pumpins in my sump.

Awsome video mate, some great info! Considering doing ifs rears but still running a tub and would like to keep the diff centre in the wheel wells, would drilling new holes backward in the perches be ok? What you reckon?
Hi mate I have just taken delivery of my father‘s year 2000 Hilux SR5 twin cab. It has the original chrome wheels on it and I would like to put something on it with a bit more attitude but certainly not as beefy as yours. I am absolutely clueless when it comes to rim sizes and tyres but I do like those basic black steel rims that you have could you please advise rim type, tire size etc For me . Truck is just going to be used as a town runner no serious four-wheel driving or at least if I go off-road it’ll just be dirt roads etc. So nothing extreme. I don’t need flex and all that. thank you.
Honestly I’ve never played with the ifs torsion bar hiluxs so I’m a bit grey in that area. I do know people running a 16x8 -22 offset rim with 33x12.5x16 but they have done work to allow them to clear. Also you have to think about legality too. Stops a lot of the fun unfortunately 😅
It might possibly work, depending on length. Banana shackles are a certain shape to clear the body mount. You can only try it and if it works great if it doesn’t get a set that do 🤷🏼♂️
You can fit ifs rears up front but you need to push the front leaf hangers forward heaps typically using a 2inch dropped crossmember and then use different shackles.
. ...3rdly & Lastly on the issue of adjusting castor, rather than hit the wall with the limitations of the wedges, would shorter banana shackles bring the castor back, I don't know perhaps they don't do shorter ones & that would cause them to foul??? I did see that Buds Customs do a set & @ 135mm pin to pin I wondered if they were shorter? They are more expensive but they are greaseable & @ my age I don't get as much nipple action as I use too!
A better solution is to do what I’ve done with my ln106 and fit a dropped front crossmember that spacers the front leaf mounts down to compensate for the longer shackles and also give clearance to the pitman arm nut. It drives very well without wedges as caster is closer to factory now.
@@HaydnKamp Yeah that does sound better in more ways than one. I have not seen that part of a LN106 up close enough to know really what you mean. From images I have seen I know some of the structure is a little different @ the bottom of the radiator. I think there is a brace member under the radiator that bolts to the rail ends? Is that what you mean? Or is it a home made member, or something off the shelf after market? What is the conversion called? Leaf drop member? I suspect the front leaf mounts on my RN46 are different to the LN106. Guessing, here that you removed that bolt on factory member, if that is what I think it is (& what you meant?) . Make up a member from scratch tying it into the rail ends with the mounts & chassis rail ends. So I will cut the mounts off & locate them lower making sure the weld contact foot print is the same if not more than the factory position Does that sound right?
Hey mate great video! I’m looking to do something similar but not cheating out on the shocks haha. Do you have any recommendations for something higher quality? Cheers
absolute legend im constantly lookn for videos about ln106 flexy boys always great videos brother keep them coming if u have links to all the bits u brought like the shackles and drive shafts ill be keen to get some
Cheers man!! They are such good Utes. Shires fabrication doesn’t have a website, shackles and driveshaft was just ordered over their Facebook page. The steering parts you can get through superiour engineering website. Shocks I got through my local Bursons store and brake line were made by booker brakes locally.
Hi Hayden. This video is a gem & well communicated. I was hoping you might offer some insight to my situation. I have a lot to ask, & I am not an internet slut expecting to pick your brains for nothing. So I would be happy to compensate you in some way for advice. Perhaps I could send you some dollars via paypal or direct debit. I have a 1981 Hilux 4wd RN46, with a 253 V8 engine swap in it. I have put 33s on it & have been wanting to move the front axial forward to clear the guard As best as I can tell, the chassis is the same & straight. But I have noticed figment issues with the high clearance gearbox cross member, I went with a Kinselas one & ended up modifying it & I got it to fit neatly. But the weird head scratcher was when I bought new 2 inch lift leaf suspension & the rear sat down significantly. I uses a Superoo 50mm spacer blocks kit which corrected it but I could see nothing that should of caused it to be the case. I even went to a suspension specialist, it was them that fitted the blocks, they were stumped too. I dare say the blocks were not the best solution I am guessing & not cheap. The only thing I could think of was maybe there was a mix up with the rear leaf's with the manufacture, but they look right & the part numbers match. So with wanting to do the same upgrade you have, I am a bit worried about what I might be missing with the issues described above. The chassis rail is definitely not bent vertically, horizontally or even laterally... I guess it is probably difficult to say with out having the vehicle in front of you but if in the unlikely event you are reading this “word feast” what do you think?...
Definitely strange especially if you have the correct part number on the springs for the application, possibly a manufacturer mix up or the rear of the Ute is incredibly heavy? Spacer blocks work but I’m definitely not a fan of them
@@HaydnKamp There is no weight on the rear. I even have the spare mounted on the head board. The weight require to bent or flex the chassis that much asking the need of 50mm spacer blocks I think would make it noticeable, you would be able to see that stuff does not line up. The tray sits 90 degrees neat to the cab & the chassis I went through carefully & looked over the whole chassis, it is not nanometer perfect but I would say it would not be any more out than 30mm over the whole length. Of course I am guessing 30mm, the only way to know with any accuracy is to put it on an engineers table naked. I ran a straight edge along the rails, both sides are straight. She does pull to the left in the steering a little even after an alignment. I dare say many if not all of them do. So I dunno, it is a bit spooky. Thanks for bringing you brain to it!

Unfortunately not as there isn’t enough travel in the splines with the longer shocks
Awsome video mate, some great info! Considering doing ifs rears but still running a tub and would like to keep the diff centre in the wheel wells, would drilling new holes backward in the perches be ok? What you reckon?
Cheers man! Yeah I don’t see why that wouldn’t work hey
Can you link the fab shop for the shackles? Cheers
The fabrication shop I got the gear through is no more man
@@HaydnKamp Please let me know if you find another shop doing them for a decent price to NZ
Thanks
Been waiting for this one 👌🤙
Where did you say you got those shackles from mate?
I got them from Shires Fabrication but they are no longer operating
@@HaydnKamp Righto thanks mate
Bloody awesome video mate, well done!
Cheers mate! Appreciate it 🤘🏻
I guess with a box shaft ive only ever seen crawlers use them. They don't go fast and it'd be a cheap fix if need be to replace the sharft it needed
Yeah and they can take a fair bit of rock carnage before they call it quits 😅
Hey mate. How can i get in touch with you to talk about a catch up.
Cheers, Justin.
Are you going to do a high steer (Crossover) on this one, The cost is not cheap but the benifits are huge for on/off road steering.
Definitely worth doing but my bank account says no 🤣🤣
Aweosme video, are the ifs leafs you used in the rear the factory leafs or are they lifted?
I’ve got a feeling they are factory however these have been reset many times
Where abouts in sunny coast u at mate im in nambour lokking for someone to wheel with
Hey Hayden, excellent video mate, super keen to do this. i have standard 2 inc lift shackle for front, instead of banana shackle. Would it work ?
It might possibly work, depending on length. Banana shackles are a certain shape to clear the body mount. You can only try it and if it works great if it doesn’t get a set that do 🤷🏼♂️
Awesome build man. With the RUF conversion. Could you use the IFS rears up front or would that push the front diff too far forward?
You can fit ifs rears up front but you need to push the front leaf hangers forward heaps typically using a 2inch dropped crossmember and then use different shackles.
Ahh ok man. Thanks for that@@HaydnKamp
Are these stock kzn/ ln167 rear springs?
. ...3rdly & Lastly on the issue of adjusting castor, rather than hit the wall with the limitations of the wedges, would shorter banana shackles bring the castor back, I don't know perhaps they don't do shorter ones & that would cause them to foul???
Or is it a home made member,
or something off the shelf after market? What is the conversion called?
Leaf drop member?
I suspect the front leaf mounts on my RN46 are different to the LN106.
Guessing, here that you removed that bolt on factory member, if that is what I think it is (& what you meant?) .
Make up a member from scratch tying it into the rail ends with the mounts & chassis rail ends.
So I will cut the mounts off & locate them lower making sure the weld contact foot print is the same if not more than the factory position Does that sound right?
What is the banana shackles center to center on holes
Leaf spring is better stronger than coil spring... ❤❤❤ Leaf spring more soft more power spring pumping
Hi Hayden, when's your next video coming out?
Unsure man, I’ve had to sell the RN so this little series is no more unfortunately
@@HaydnKamp that's a bummer.
Hey mate great video! I’m looking to do something similar but not cheating out on the shocks haha. Do you have any recommendations for something higher quality? Cheers
Superiour mono range would be a good option
Open - Closed / Lift / Travel mm/inch
605 -370mm / 5inch / 235/9.2
565 - 350mm / 4inch /215/8.4
535- 335mm / 3inch / 200/7.8
@@HaydnKamp appreciate it! Keep up the awesome content
absolute legend im constantly lookn for videos about ln106 flexy boys always great videos brother keep them coming if u have links to all the bits u brought like the shackles and drive shafts ill be keen to get some
Cheers man!! They are such good Utes. Shires fabrication doesn’t have a website, shackles and driveshaft was just ordered over their Facebook page. The steering parts you can get through superiour engineering website. Shocks I got through my local Bursons store and brake line were made by booker brakes locally.
@@HaydnKamp Rodger I'll have to suss it out for mine hopefully get my brick flexing better
Very worth the effort if done right 👌🏼
@@HaydnKamp have to get u over to wa with all ya leaf packs build another flex weapon hahah
Ive got no shortage of leaves 🤣🤣
Do you reckon these mods will work for a dual cab with roof rack roof top camper draws ?? 😅
Absolutely no doubt, just need more leaves 🤘🏻
those SFA Hilux's always have a lot of character about them
They really do, I’ve got a soft spot for them big time
How much taller is your truck above standard. I want to do the same to my 85 surf. I want to keep it low on 33s
Probably sat around 2-3 inchs over stock
You are a true engineer
*a bloke who likes to mess with engineers work 😅
hey mate, how much did that long slip driveshaft cost, and where did u get it made
I’ve had three made from between $650-800 local driveline shop is probably your best bet
What model surf front drive shaft did you use in the video I'm going to be doing the ruf next weekend
Surf shafts don’t have enough spline. The one in the video was a ln106 shaft that was modified
@@HaydnKamp ah ok what did you do to modify it
Awesome video, love your channel
Cheers Josh 🤘🏻 more to come
Is it best to use springs in this configuration which are standard height or are 2 inch ‘lift’ springs ok to use for this as well?
Awesome, love your work mate
Thanks Riley!
Will this work in a LN167 (IFS) what will I need in the front ?
I haven’t had much to do with torsion bar ifs front ends sorry man
Hey mate
Question for you
Would these rear leaf springs fit a duel cab ?
Yeah sure would Micko
Another question man
I’ve already got 2inch straight shackles in the front would they work or do I definitely need the banana shackles?
The bullbar looks like it is off a patrol or 80 series.
Yeah your guess would be as good as mine 🤷🏼♂️
link to the shocks?
I put the part numbers in the video, I got them from a local auto parts store
Are -44 a good option? Or are -22 the way to go?
You could definitely run -44’s but a better option is to ‘wide track’ convert it
Awesome thank you for the reply :)
I have put 33s on it & have been wanting to move the front axial forward to clear the guard
As best as I can tell, the chassis is the same & straight.
The tray sits 90 degrees neat to the cab & the chassis
I went through carefully & looked over the whole chassis, it is not nanometer perfect but I would say it would not be any more out than 30mm over the whole length.
Thanks for bringing you brain to it!
he was tightening the u bolt
This is an amazing video great info
Thanks mate! Hope it made a bit of sense
Nice video and very useful channel
Cheers man! Appreciate it
wish i never sold my LN
I wish I didn’t have to sell it either 😢
What size shackles are they?
200mm rears and banana shackles are 135mm from memory
No need to invert shocks
