Great Qs from you, Jock & As from Simon. Well done for streamlining the questions and thanks for the comprehensive and proportionate responses. Lots of quality here and the time flew. Thanks all and for those who submitted Qs! Also '5 things'? more like 50!
Mate, this guy really knows what he's talking about. My Father knew brakes and spark plugs and taught me a lot and this guy is just like him with the way he explains things. In my own times and costings I've payed a lot of money on suspension and components for Race Cars to 4wds and what this guys says is true.
Jocko delivering the goods yet again!! Far out, I love that this was a genuinely informative video, not another advertorial pumping the hell out of a brand.
I love my tough dog. I installed in December for mostly Work 500 constant at the rear. I love that I have the ability to adjust the spring right on different road surfaces rides really good too
other useful info would be how to workout your payload, and just understanding loading capacity and so on. like info on how loading people into you dual cab impacts your payload and gvm, how adding a trailer and how ball weight affects payload and so on
When I had my airbags fitted, I was told to load then inflate. I think that was because if you inflate first, you make might over pressure the bags as they get compressed from the load. It would be good to know the correct method.
Also with wheel alignments for IFS vehicles, every 20,000km for normal on road travelling, 10,000km doing gravel roads and uneven surfaces, and after every major off-road trip (Cape York, High Country, $1,000 Track TAS etc.). I’m very fussy with my wheel alignment and weary with my tyre wear
NIce work guys, informative for the average guy/gal, towing, tradie, and modifying to a say 2" lift. But how about modifying a vehicle to say a 3/4" lift. Be interested in seeing an ep with some detailed gurus, on how to mod to a 4/3" lift, get angles right, sway bars, bump stops, getting spring rates right, getting/adjusting shock rates , etc. Constantly chasing spring and shock rates for my 4" Patrol wagon
spring under = less axle wrap, springs can be mounted directly under the chassis rails for strength without raising centre of gravity too much. rising spring rate for load carrying. spring over = flatter spring for better ride quality, less shackle travel, more even spring rate.
my question is determining if it's worth putting money into my little 4wd to make it more capable on the beach etc. model: terracan crdi *can get some nice winch bars, full/neiked. *can get rear, air/elect locker. * can fit 32" skinny. legally only 30". * clearance, visually it all looks very low (tank low). clearance for beach driving is something i am concerned could turn a nice outing into a constant recovery day. So my amateur Question is : could the rear coils have an airbag installed to create more clearance temporarily for soft sand driving? cheers from shaun.
If your life circumstances changed( going from single to having wife and kids) and you have to got from a non GVM Heavy duty setup to a GVM setup. Do you need to replace all of the aftermarket components or can you keep some of the after market components that meet the GVM specs?
I have a question, After "abusing" my ute for a year and a half on deep corrugation and some wombat holes my ute began to roll and nosedive significantly during cornering and also rebounded harshly when hitting speedbumps and corrugation. I didnt even carrying anything heavier than 100kg for most of the time heck I think even less than 100kg.What should I check first?
Corrugations will have shortened the life of your shockies, and worn your bushes a lot. Get yourself some tough dog adjustable shockies, and new bushes, the front first and if it's leaf sprung I'd put new leafs in, if coils, they'll probably be fine to stay. Also if you still drive on corrugated dirt roads, do yourself a massive favour and put on the tough dog adjustable steering damper, cannot not recommend them highly enough, I was very pleasantly surprised, you will be to, amazing on rough dirt roads to keep the steering steady!! I've done all the suspension on my gu patrol with the adjustable tough dog shockies and I would rate them extremely highly! It makes the suspension on the 4x4 so so so personlisable! Hope this helps, cheers!
So the explanation of the adjustable shock was a good description of the shock construction. BUT no real comment on what it does to the car. What will the driver / passenger feel.
what happens if I have an older vehicle with upgraded suspension, how do I retrospectively get it VASS tested and certified in Victoria with a upgraded GVM plate?
Hey I love your videos they are ☆AMAZING☆ and I just want to let Shauno know that Sooty is the the best looking, sounding and performing car I have ever seen in my life. Also I have a big soft spot for 80 series Landcruisers
Parabolics are designed to carry weight and be comfortable while doing it. Never seen one "bend right down and not come back" As for the caravan drw bar angle, if it cant be level then pointing down is the next best thing your much wors off if its pointing up in the air while towing. Obviously within reason. There is also no reason people have to go out and buy a whole brand new suspension kit if they have a couple of buggered shocks. Shocks, if poor quality, will usually not outlast the springs. A little bit of misleading info here i think
I have a question, I have a discovery 3 with JUST it's stock air bags as suspension and sometimes the steering wheel wobbles and like going to the left (the tires are new and it's had a wheel alignment) is there anyone that has an idea what it can be ?
Hi guys I been searching for a lift kit for my jeep cherokee kk 2011!! could you make a lift kit plus chock for my jeep ? I am in New Zealand Thanks Ced domingo
4:46 "no such thing..."??? Someone better tell Ford that then, the RTV Falcon Ute has leaf springs and is rated to carry 1100kg over the rear axle... and that's not even a 4WD, just a Falcon ute!
@@shanenorwell8580Go listen to it again and this time try to comprehend it. I quoted what he said, although he did say "almost" at the end but he went back on that when he said "you can't have your cake and eat it too".
@@4WD247 I know mate, I was just referring to his statement that there's NO SUCH THING for leaf springs, that would mean ANY leaf springs. You'd think a 4WD would be much higher rated than a Falcon Ute anyway, as far as suspension goes. It's sad that you can't see the correlation or my point but meh... whatever.
This guy really knows how to explain and describe how things work. A rare talent.
This guy really knew his stuff, thanks for keeping us informed Jocko & 4wd 24/7!
This is one of the Best information sessions I’ve seen for a while. Great job Jocko

That was an excellent episode. So educational. No BS.
Great no BS discussion and some of the best explanations of how suspension works I have heard, I learned a lot. Thanks!

Awesome video as always Jocko.
Great knowledge session and not just pushing a product, really useful tips re airbags and air v loading, nicely done
one of the best vids iv seen jocko do yet
I love my tough dog. I installed in December for mostly Work 500 constant at the rear. I love that I have the ability to adjust the spring right on different road surfaces rides really good too
This is great advice and knowledge, well done! great stuff. Never heard a better explanation for the caster.
Tonight’s drinking game; have a drink every time the 79 series is mentioned 😂
Great knowledge though! Definitely helps understand it a bit more!
Ohh now that's dangerous 🤣
Jocko wasn't happy when he heard hilux-wagon are for soccer mums. That got me laughing 🙈😂🤣
🤣
😂

Hey guys. He didn’t mention about wear in the middle of the tyre also being due to over inflation
Fantastic answers and explanations Simon... Very concise and well spoken! Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Nice educational episode! It's actually a nice "line" of side episodes to have!
Id like to know whats the difference between a gvm upgrade and say upgraded springs ie 500kg springs other than an engineering certificate
Very infomative and cleared up some of my questions... learnt alot... and no BS
one of the best, informative shows on real life suspension questions....

A regular wheel alignment can definitely help with prolonging the life of your tyers
Simon is the Guru
Very well articulated explanation of articulation.

Excellent video. Great questions and clear answers 👌
Very informative I learned quite a few things thank you
Pretty good explanations Simon. Thanks (y)
Ran tough dog in a few of my rigs over the last few years and can't rate em highly enough and for the money!
All this talk about bags is getting me excited

The Adjustable shock, adjusts what? Im guessing from quick look at website were talking compression?
Say what you will about Tough Dog, old mates answers are spot on regardless of the brand you want to run
He definitely knows his stuff!
We try our best!
Jocko I’m sick of my hilux since I bought it trouble jocko come and fix it can’t even get mechanic to work on

Unfortunately yes! The kit must leave here as a certified GVM kit to be recognized as an approved GVM upgrade.
Damn. Lots if unfo, but i ACTUALLY FELL ASLEEP during this vid. (Although, I was tired.). 😊

Definitely recommend taking it to your closest suspension specialist to check this out mate! Something's definitely not right there.

DELETE ALL FRONT SWAY BARS! COMMIT TO THE FLEX, REDUCE THE WHEEL LIFT!
I fitted a steel bar and winch to my GWM Ute and it wallowed like a pig. Now have Tough Dog upgrade and the ride is mint.
Epic mate!
Great video for information with suspension, made me think of my build and future progression
ive got one question thoughts on drop shackles in the rear paired with stock leaf spring or after market with 0" lift
How much PSI do you put in the airbags before you put the van on?

Jocko you look like JBL from Autosport (F1 channel)!!!
Why cant i find to buy a standard shock and spring suspenssion kit for my 07 N70? They are all lift kits online
I just got a nissan patrol g60 1993 from a best friend that passed
Why do we not use a bag with coil springs on a Triton?
Vans lifted vs ozzy trucks! Big difference and similar aspects 😊

Brilliant

You guys cover every car series except the 100 series but 2006 model
How much have you spent on your Loxie so far
When is tough dog going down the remote resivouu road like every other manufacturer? 😂
Good info though guys
Who would’ve thought 💭 ?
❤ love you guys
Good old 900% adjustability 🤔
30 years experience is definitely obvious.

Hey mate! This suspension info is specifically about 4WD dual cab utes, not 2WD's like the RTV Falcon's.
