If you listen to the words of this song, especially while watching the video, the message/meaning is super clear. Yet so many reactors completely miss what it’s about so I have to praise you for paying attention and getting it lol. Steven Tyler said it was after reading an article in the paper that he got the idea for the song. Afterwards he started a home for abused women also.
My favorite Aerosmith song. I'm guessing the Mom knew what was going on because one of the lyrics was nobody believes her. He got what was coming to him. Every dog has their day
She watched him going into Janie's room. She definitely knows. That is Lesley Ann Warren playing the mom, Kristin Dattilo is Janie, and Nicholas Guest is the dad.
@@chercee The issue is that often times the mum does know "something" but maybe out of fear her mind may play down what may be going on. It's the sad reality unfortunately. Especially back in the day kids who were suspect of sexual abuse hadn't really have many ways to break out of this terror. Killing him wasn't just, but when nobody believes you and nobody helps you, it was a desperate action to put an end to it. Nowadays we have anonymous help lines and many other places where you can get help including school. Awareness is the key. Unfortunately jung victims often are not aware that they can get help elsewhere. That's why it should be part of every school's education quite early on. This sill happens way too frequent to this day.
When this song came out, it was so impressive that such a popular band brought light to such a dark subject. Try "Love in a elevator" by them. Much more upbeat and fun song.
I think I'm the end her mother overcome with guilt helped Janie drag his body out of the office and under the train and then told her to run. Janie couldn't have dragged him all by herself. It doesn't excuse her mother's actions. It's why Janie felt she had no other choice.
The 80s came out with quite a few top list songs about child abuse (sexual and/or physical), as well as partner abuse, etc. Many of the 'adults' of the era just waved it away as kids telling stories to their devil music... but we *listened* to the lyrics, and made sure the message went around. Try Pat Benetar's 'Hell Is for Children', Bryan Adams' 'Children of the Night', Suzanne Vega's 'My Name Is Luka', and a ton of others. Heart-wrenching songs that hit the soul, but you can enjoy them even if you've never been in that situation.
I love hell is for children, and the crazy thing is that so many people back then thought she was saying that children should be in hell or something like that. Talk about completely misunderstanding/or judging a song without listening. But it’s such a hauntingly beautiful song. So sad.
Very sad, but so very accurate. The high school I went to was pretty upper class (re: snotty), but us kids didn't have to explain the lyrics to anyone over 20. That should say way too much about the subject matter. Not that there isn't child abuse (sexual or otherwise) in current culture, but more is actively *done* about it now.
This song was powerful and painful for me when it came out. It was the 80s when I finally told my story of the abuses of my father to my 7th grade teacher. At the time, I had so much anger in my heart. Glad I didn't have access to a gun then. But man this song always shot right through me.
Congratulations on surviving such a horrible experience. I hope that you were able to get the aftercare treatment needed for such situations. Im a physical abuse/fostercare survivor.
@@jamesjohnston1935 I did. Thank you. 💕 I actually just got PTSD removed from my diagnosis list a few years ago! So proud of that achievement. Still in counseling though. But I've got a really good counselor who I've been going to for over 15 yrs. Most of my remaining issues are autism based. I hope you were also able to find good reliable services that have been helpful. 💕🦔☺️
Very beautiful song for a dark subject that always needs addressed, and this is a dark song, but a great one by Aerosmith, an awesome band!!🔥Looking forward to more of them on your channel! Thanks AB!❤️
Saw them in concert in the early 90's ,was fortunate enough to have Steven Tyler reach down and grab my hand during the show...also u crowd surfed up on stage WITH them MULTIPLE times until I was told I had to stop by security,lol...BEST 3 day concert festival in Germany I've EVER been to!!! It was EPIC!! I was young (in my teens) and wild...loved concerts and live music performances.BEST times of my life....ahh,to be young and full of life....lol.good times.they are PHENOMENAL live!!!! Steven is an Acrobat on stage and even then he was doing back flips and dancing all over....the band completely brought the crowd to their feet the entire time!!😃🎶❤✌
Sadly this happened to my daughter's friend. She was very little when it started. My daughter and a few others had to be taken to a special place so pictures could be taken by women police officers and be compared to what all they found on this piece of 💩's computer and his camera. They were around 13 when she got tired of it and said something and got the ball rolling. It put the pieces together when my daughter would spend the night over there and 3am they were both at the door (they were maybe 7 at this time). My daughter wasn't involved but a few of the other girls were. After we all went to court and he was sentenced to life (that's how much they caught him with) the mom divorced her husband and kicked her little girl out of her life. Yep - 13 almost 14 but it was her fault her marriage ended!!! Hope her mom is living a 💩ty life just like her lowlife husband. The daughter is now married but doesn't have any kids. She's probably messed up if you know what i mean. Girls are in their 30s now and i still tell them how much i love them - because i do ♥️
I was done this way by my father and I told on him when I was 16 and I was never believed all I got was beating after beating by my Aunt and the whole family he died in 1989 it was the best day of my life and I still stand by what he did to me and I've been an outcast all my life and I would never budge from the truth
Thank you for caring about what happened to me and yes I have healed my heart and my mind I didn't do anything wrong and that is what I know in my heart I finally realized that I don't care if they believed me or not I know the truth and that I don't owe them anything I set myself free because I was a little girl and have a keen sense and I can point out a bad person and warn others that they need to be careful and I have saved a couple of girls from bad people
@AbtheKreator This is *such* an important song--not only for child abuse, but for abuse and sexual abuse in general!! You may not deeply understand how important this Aerosmith song is? Sincere thank you for reacting to this!!!💯
Back in the day, they wanted to ban this song from the radio because of the content. However, places that were safe havens for these kids, lauded this song for bringing awareness ✌️
Great reaction! You should definitely check out some more Aerosmith 😊 Check out Sweet emotions, Dude looks like a lady, Love in an elevator, Angel, Dream on, Crazy, What it takes, Cryin, Rag doll, I don't wanna miss a thing, & soooo many more😊
On the subject matter, no one wants to hear about it because it's so monstrous. But it needs to be talked about and needs much stronger laws and sentences. The perpetrators are usually family members, friends of the family, authority figures, clergy and people who see the same children on a regular basis. They want the trust of the family and the child's trust so the abuse can continue. A parent or guardian never wants to believe that their child had to endure abuse or that a trusted adult would do such a thing. It's easier to disbelieve than to confront the fact. Also, young children might not know the words to describe what happened and fear they may be blamed. In some cases, a survivor might k!ll an abuser when they are older and more capable of defending themselves. This would probably not be considered self-defense in court because it is after the fact. Even though they're lives have been ruined. Most cases are never reported.
Was very good when it came out and it is very interesting to hear younger people listen to it now. I know when I was growing up there were a lot of songs that were banned off the radio that were very tame to this one and today's generation are looking at it with new eyes going what's going on❤
This is one of the songs that gives me chills every time I hear it. I can’t decide if it’s the intensity of Stevens voice, the music itself, or the incredibly horrible subject of the song. Maybe it’s all of it 🤷🏼♀️
If I'm not mistaken, I think that Steven Tyler spent some time in rehab and met a young lady at one of the group sessions who broke everyone's heart with her heart-wrenching story of the abuse she was subjected to at the hands of her father, He wrote this song to pay homage to her and to keep giving voice to victims out there.
Too bad Steven didnt follow his own advice and leave the young girl that he abused as a underage groupie/ that he made himself legal gardian of so they could travel on tour with ...her story is here on youtube
For an amazing live performance check out Steven Tylers performance with Carrie Underwood of their song 'Walk this way' & then it goes into one of Carries song. Fabulous performance & it was just a couple years ago. He's still got it!
REO was an exceptionally great live band. They were consistently great live. Kevin is a great frontman and Gary on guitar was spectacular. My favorite song is "Riding the Storm Out" that came out I think in 1980 or 81. Check out the live version of it. I saw them many times. They played all the big "festival" type concerts. Loved the reaction.

They made him change the lyrics...it was originally he "r worded" his little bitty baby, the man has got to be insane, he finally agreed to change it to touched. You know what he did, and she ended It...
this song never made #1, but it was close. it peaked at #4 on the billboard hot 100 and #2 on billboard's mainstream rock chart. to me this song is better than a lot of their #1 hits. also the video was directed by david fincher.
I think the mom's name is Janie and she killed her husband for doing what he did. They were not throwing handcuffs on the girl, they put a blanket around her and that reads innocent victim to me.
Does anyone know where this song comes from? I was wondering if it came from personal experience. His friend did this to his daughter and she came out years later mentioning Steven.
My thing is.. all time fav Rock band.. do not mess with Aerosmith... just don't... pls give credit to one of the best ever. and calling out sexual abuse.. especially against little girls. I'm a boy mom.. but I've raised 2 step daughters... I would go insane on someone that came after my girls.
Unfortunately it's not seen as self defence, at least the way it's portrayed in the video. It's a difficult topic as false accusations also happens. So when a child can simply kill his dad and simply claim she got abused, that's also an issue. Of course in most cases it's the other way round. Most people can sympathise with Janie, it doesn't make it right through. It's really a horrible situation to be in when nobody believes you and the only action you can think of as a child may replace one miserable life with another. Nowadays there are many ways to get help. Anonymous help lines, school, safe houses, ... Though children need to be aware of those. Also as a parent you should also be aware that the majority of child abuse happens within the own family (parents, uncles, siblings, ...). So always keep your eyes open. Everybody in the family should.
Something doesn’t ring true with this song after finding out Steven Tyler had sex with an underage girl, and if you are going to to defend him keep it moving

Great song. Aerosmith won a Grammy for best rock performance for this song
Correct, mother knew what was going on , so she just turned her head, so she was a sleeze too!! ❤️

You are correct he was abusing her. Also Steven Tyler, the lead singer, opened a home for abused girls called Janies House.
