I met Type O Negative in Milwaukee YEARS Ago. Peter was on the bus until shortly before their set, but I had a quick conversation with him. He was a funny guy. I went back to the floor for their show, and they killed it. The Deadlights, and Full Devil Jacket opened for them. A member of Full Devil Jacket is how I got back stage. Everyone was kind of just standing around while the Deadlights were playing, and he and I were moshing; and then I realized who he was (his pink hair gave it away, lol). We started bullshitting and then he asked me if I wanted to go to the bar and have some drinks (it was at the Rave/Eagles Ballroom), and I told him I was only twenty, and he said who fucking cares; then bought me a Jack and Coke, the singer walked up and was like let's go backstage, and they took me with them. My friends I went with got mad at me because I didn't try to search the crowd and get them backstage, too. It was a night I will always remember.

Peter Steele was from Brooklyn. He was just really good at using a Romanian style accent in his vocals to give off that vampire vibe.

@@flakeyjakey3165 That's unlikely since first of all his father was of Russian/Polish descent and his mother Scottish-Irish/Norwegian/Icelandic. There's no Romanian in there. And secondly, Peter Steele was born and raised in Brooklyn.

I'm a few months late to this reaction, but wanted to comment on a couple things you asked about toward the beginning of the reaction. As others mentioned, "nosferatu" is the Romanian word for "vampire." However, given that the song is about an ex-girlfriend who was deeply into goth subculture and goth pop culture, it is likely he was referring to the movie Nosferatu, a 1922 German silent film that was (if I'm not mistaken) the first film adaptation of the Dracula novel. Also, Lily Munster is a character from the Munsters, a popular American sitcom from the 1960s that featured a monster family Herman Munster (based on Frankenstein), his wife Lily (vampire), their son Eddie (werewolf), Grandpa (a very elderly Dracula), and their niece Marilyn (human, who they treated as "ugly" because she wasn't a monster). Rob Zombie is currently working on a modern movie adaptation of the Munsters.
They have a lot of great songs. I have a soft spot for "September Sun", it just reminds me of a place...in time.
Type O Negative was my first concert in 1996 when I was 11 years old when they opened for Ozzy along with Sepultura, my favorite song is My Girlfriend’s Girlfriend
Song is supposed to be comedic. Dude had a sense of humor.
Most people don't get it. There are a few more serious songs in his later years, but otherwise Pete was just taking the absolute piss out of everything.
@@colebenoit3606, yeah; but he was also good at making it seem genuine, with his voice and lyrics. If you did not follow him, sometimes you could mistake his humor for real shit, lol. Some songs are obvious, but he was good at ambiguity.

If you like Type O Negative, you would probably like Life of Agony. Their best album imo was River Runs Red which was a concept album about child abuse and teen suicide. Great songs to start with would be "Through and Through" and "This Time." The singer Keith Caputo (at the time) had a deep voice like Peter Steele did. Keith has since transitioned to a woman and is now known as Mina Caputo, and until the pandemic, they were still active as a band. Great stuff.

They are a Brooklyn band, mostly classified as gothic or doom metal but they didn't really like labels. Peter has a Russian/Polish background and when he sings he rolls his R's and adds other little accents here and there, but when he speaks it's pure Brooklyn lol. Please check out Love You to Death, when you get a chance 😊

This song was written as a sarcastic ode to goth girls with the title coming from a hair dye tone, based on a narcissistic ex-girlfriend of lead singer Peter Steele.Amazing voice and frontman,shame he's not with us anymore.You shoul check out his "brighter" side in "My girlfriend's girlfriend" video ;)

I think it's called Goth Metal. Type O Negative are American but Peter Steele did sing with a bit of an accent but it's meant to sound vampiric. I think you might also enjoy Love you to Death and if you want something that is a little more fun but still sexy as hell maybe try My Girlfriend's Girlfriend.
So, all their pop-goth songs, without getting into the real core of the band? Obviously a serious fan.

"2 of their albums at least"? I doubt that very much. You pick the obvious tunes that hundreds of other reaction videos do, pretend to like the song/band and move on to pretending to like another song/band next time.
@@patrickmohan2220 think what you like. I have no reason to lie about it. I think one of my favourite songs is Anesthesia but when someone is doing a first time listen I suggest something a bit easier for the ear to pick up on, so that will often be the more commercial songs. Unless the reactor is a real muso and can take a deep dive and really appreciate the music. We could have had a good discussion about this band's music but instead you felt the need to come in and attack me. I have no idea why and a band as good as TON don't need you to defend them.

The song is about a Goth Chick who is struggling to stay in the "scene" and all the craziness she puts the men in her life through. Kudos for tackling this song. Type O Negative is a bit of an acquired taste. I think their best song was their collaboration with Ozzy Osbourne on " Images of Matchstick Man" .

You're not familiar with the word Nasferatu?! Type O Negative was the best goth band ever. It's "Goth Metal". There are other good ones out there. But none compare. You should listen to and do a react to Peter Steele's band "Carnivore". It's the metal band he had prior to Type O Negative. And you REALLY need to hear the full version of Black No. 1/Little Miss Scare All
