I had actually had the blessing to "meet" him, once in a German Festival in 2001, was in wheelchair temporarily at the time, and had to give myself injections or anti cohagulants, so the staff let me in the border of the VIP zone. Then, rare occurence in Metal, two guys of the audience start to mock me from the other side of the fence. Peter was passing by, he stopped on his tracks, looked at them, stone-face, not even frowning, until they flee, then he looked at me, winked without smiling, and went on his way. I know it's not much, but I've always cherished this memory.

doubtful. he had an idealistic view of women which is not surprising given his catholic family upbringing (it's typical of all Abrahamic cultures) and idealistic standards for romance. this was a gift in the sense that helped him sing conveying so much emotion and write amazing music. but it doesn't seem to help anyone with the reality of daily life. in fact for the little we know his sentimental life was a train wreck: a quick, failed marriage when young, an attempted suicide "because he fell in love with the wrong person", an entire record composed as a fantasy murderous revenge against his ex gf who cheated on him (perfect proof of the madonna-wh**e complex), jailed for assault beating almost to death a second guy another gf had kept secret from him for years, and in the end he died never having found a life partner. instead it seems like he had a lot of casual s3x with random groupies throwing themselves at him and when it came to relationships he gave his heart and soul quickly and recklessly to terrible women who treated him like crap. if he actually had a true understanding of women, his choices in partners would have been wiser. but then we wouldn't have had so much amazing music, just another regular, content guy with no need to let out the demons tormenting him.

I saw them twice. The first time they were tour for Life Is Killing Me, and the only album I had was Bloody Kisses, so I was kind of disappointed that I didn't know most of the songs that night. The second time a few years later, I had all their albums so I knew the songs. The funny thing, I'm a bass player so I'm generally focused on the bassist. I was there alone because nobody I knew liked them (they are weirdly one of those "like them or hate them" bands). Peter Steele and I locked eyes and he gave me a knowing nod. I'm a straight guy, but I got to say, I got a little bit giddy about that.
They were both in smaller clubs, which in my opinion is the best way to watch a band.

I was LITERALLY just dreaming that you were doing one of mine. Am I even awake right now? There are three things on my face right now. A keyboard, a purring cat, and a smile.
And Type-O Negative was the first band I ever saw play live. I was like 13 years old. My bro walked me down to the stage between sets, and Pete was on stage picking up gear or something. My bro yelled to him that it was my first show ever, and I love Type-O. So this 7' tall giant warlock in white makeup, with jet black hair, and pecs the size of my entire chest leans off the stage over me, and shakes my hand, and says in that voice "Hello little boy. How are you? I thought he was legit going to eat my soul. About 14 years later, and I'm a dyed-in-the-wool metalhead. Seen Type-O another 4 or 5 times. And it was the first time I ever hurt so bad to hear one of my favorite dudes had died. But now you get to hear him for the first time, and Pete gains some immortality in one of your most excellent reaction videos! Much love RVA.

After the first time meeting him who would have guessed he would remember me or any of my friends (band members). The second time we crossed paths we were at a well known eating and drinking establishment. He saw us out of the corner of his eye and walked over to join us. He remembered the names of most of us. That was an epic meal with great company. He cracked jokes about being in a tavern during a game of D&D and picked out our characters. This was in the very late 90's. When we crossed paths after that he never failed to remember my name. His sudden passing broke the spirits of many who knew him.

So so sooooooo jealous! Thank You for the feedback!!! I've just been in such a funk recently realizing that the days of REAL music are over (or at least hanging on by a thread) & we will most likely NEVER see the likes of guys/musicians like this ever again; it's just too depressing.
I also just purchased 3 of their albums & am saving up for the rest. Any suggestions for any current artists/bands that I should check out, would be greatly appreciated.
      :-)

One of my most cherished memories is Type O Negative at the Masquerade in Atlanta September 11th 2003. We're having fun chanting "YOU SUCK, YOU SUCK, YOU SUCK!!!" Pete interjects and goes, " We suck? WE SUCK?! While you're spending tomorrow working some shitty job, going to school, or begging someone for money, I'll be in my hotel room eating Fruit Loops and jerking off to Betty Rubble." Best frontman I've had the pleasure of witnessing live.

If you like this you should hear their version of Summer Breeze. He really stretches those low notes.

Dude is one of the best voices and for such a deep voice he's amazing just his type of music never got the publicity that lesser talents get for being mainstream.

I also love Peter Steele may he rest in peace! When he was alive, I seen him preform 3 different times live in concert and what a powerful voice and a display of great music, and I wasn't disappointed.

So I'm married and have 2 wonderful kids. I've never had any homosexual inclinations but Peter's voice is the sexiest voice I've ever heard, man or woman.

I saw Type O many years ago with Peter on lead. They were instantly ingrained on my soul and bring me to a place of comfort and serenity. It was absolutely tragic when the world lost him. A magical voice that can never be duplicated.

Oh wow Rebecca, if you're just now discovering Peter Steele and Type O Negative you have opened the proverbial Pandora's Box of melodic metal, and have heard one of the greatest metal singers in the last 30 years at least. For more of that insane baritone and fantastic power and control try the uncensored _full_ version of their song _Christian_ _Woman_ next.
Fun fact: Peter was so big and tall that the "normal-sized guitar" you see him playing here is actually a bass. He was also one of the nicest and most charming (in his quirky way) metal singers I've ever met in person, or even heard of. We miss you Peter!

Such a major loss to the music world. He had atrial fibrillation, basically an irregular heartbeat, and died of an aortic aneurysm at 48. It’s hard to tell in the video, but Peter was 6’7”...a giant of a man, but very gentle and caring by all accounts. I remember reading the news and I’m not ashamed to say I cried a little, just as I did when I learned Layne had died. At least we have the albums they made so his unique voice lives on.
Edit : Thank you for doing Type O, I feel they were one of the most underrated bands.

@@GabrielleCheri Oh! Really? Where did you find that info? Damn... that's even more of a shame than if it had been his heart... you can treat diverticulitis and live with it for quite a while... :/

Carol Prado Yes, truly a shame. Peter’s family runs an official Facebook page called “The Real Peter Steele Ratajczyk Page” where they post random tidbits about Peter and old photos never before seen like childhood etc.

GLAD TO SEE YOU DID THIS SONG, WHICH TO ME IS VERY VERY SEDUCTIVE , AS WELL MOST OF THIS ALBUM, OCTOBER RUST IS. UNFORTUNATELY THIS WAS EDITED, TIME WISE, ABOUT A MINUTE OR SO, WHICH TO ME EMPHASIS THE EMOTION ENDING THE SONG. IF YOU WOULD PLEASE DO A VIDEO TO "WOLFMOON" ON OCTOBER RUST, I THINK YOU WILL GET CHILLS LIKE I DO. YOU ARE AWESOME

Oh my godess. So adorbs. I have encountered classically trained seeing some old school metal and goth for the first time. The emotion, the feeling, reverberates through the ages. Everything new, is just a reflection of those that came before. Your wonder, is something else. Recalls me to the first that i threw a fist to Iron Maiden.
