Why do I keep watching these? All I am doing is crying. My oldest daughter has a habit of texting. I have screamed, cried, begged her not to do it. If you don't care about yourself what about the family lives you may destroy? You are no better than a drunk driver. She knows she shouldn't be doing it but, I feel guilty for what I am sure is going to happen.

@@jakestatefarm6705 If your stupid mistake could kill them and someone else, and land you in jail and leave your kids without a dad if they survive? No thank you. That would be a "this is the only time you can do that" sort of moment. Otherwise, do not. Not only that, but if they are conditioned into thinking that reckless behavior is normal? They could grow up to drive stupidly, and possibly kill someone, or be killed doing something stupid. Either way, it is a parent's worst nightmare! I certainly would not repeat what my dad did behind the wheel; cussed me out when I told him to put the phone down; there was a cop right there, and where I live, it is illegal to even TOUCH your phone while driving, not to mention a cop being there... then my mother grilled him about driving crazy when he would drive HER car (because guess who had to pay his tickets because it was her car?) and that it was a bad influence. Because of my experience, I do not have the "I am automatically right because I am the adult" mentality. Because there are too many situations where parents do not listen, because friendly reminder, this is not a teenager problem only; I nearly got in a wreck before because an ADULT MAN, about two decades older than myself swerved right in front of me, nearly hitting me! And guess what was in his face? His PHONE. Guy was lucky there were no cops nearby.

My heart grieves for you, your former life and for your family that has had to adjust to this tremendous change. The person (girl) that caused this should be held accountable financially.
It sounds as though she is young. Fine. Allow her to live her life and pay a monthly stipend for the rest of HER life to pay for the damage to Debbie's life and to the lives of her family.

Problem is...people hear what you say, and watch while you are telling them.
Unfortunately, a large percentage of those who watch this, watch it for some ulterior motive. Be it for drivers ed as an assignment, be it part of getting your license back by taking classes, or Mom making their kids watch so they can say they taught them and now feel they've done the right thing.
That's when "selective hearing" and "selective vision" come into the picture. They hear enough to pass and get by, they see enough to get their phones back,.whatever it may be! I believe that out of our citizens, an alarming majority will always put their wants in front of anyone else's needs. People need friends, children, family etc. But they WANT their "toys" even more. That means that MOST people who watch this will have forgotten most of the content within 48 hours. Which means they will only learn if this tragic events take their own and/or others family, friends, children, or themselves.
I'm not at all trying to discourage anyone who is trying to bring this problem into the proper light. Keep it up bc at least SOME will listen or see the evidence that you are showing as plain as day.
Remember, if these videos can stop even 5% of the number of past accidents per year..you ARE saving lives!!

I was involved in a texting and driving car accident in March 2018, I grew up watching these commercials about the dangers of texting and driving. I never did it when I got my license. Never did I ever imagine that I would be involved in a texting and driving accident myself. When I had my accident the police said there was a phone involved and they confirm that the women was texting and driving. The women t- bone me at 75 miles an hour and my car was almost split in half. My pelvis was fractured in 3 places, my lower back was fractured and my left hip was fractured. My left knee was basically severely bruised and mangled. I have a small lump on the back of my knee to remember that accident. I wasn’t supposed to live but the hospital said I was absolute miracle. Due to the accident I have a result of health problems and here I am almost 25 years old. The accident happened when I was 22 years old, I was 2 months short of my 23rd Birthday.
The accident wasn’t my fault, the other driver was texting and driving.
Please listen to these people, don’t text and drive. You are not confident to do that. If you continue with this dangerous idea, that you think you can text and drive. You are extremely wrong.
If you continue then your car will end up like mine.
Please again Don’t Text And Drive

Although all these stories are so tragic, I'm having a big problem watching them through my tears, I CAN'T imagine what the folks who had to actually endure this pain and suffering are going through. My heart however is so incredibly broken, by Debbie's story. The most HEINOUS ATROCIOUS SINGLE OCCURRENCE in the story, in Debbie's story, and her canine Angels story,... is the UNGODLY, and I will repeat that again so ALL hear me,... THE ABSOLUTELY UNGODLY. "SENTENCE" (if one can even call that a sentence, a punishment), that the PERPETRATOR received for taking Debbie's life as she knew it, and FOREVER ENDING THE LIFE OF HER TRUSTED CANINE COMPANION!! I thought a sentence was FASHIONED to PROTECT THE PUBLIC AND PUNISH THE OFFENDER.... SOOOOOOO JUST WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED IN THIS INSTANCE??? Something is VERY VERY EGREGIOUS IN THIS CASE!. As I stated, as someone on the outside looking in, if I am this INCENSED, I can't even BEGIN TO FATHOM how
UNBELIEVABLY ANGRY...( I don't even think that the word "angry" describes the level of deep emotion your family must be ..Debbie being the most affected! This is a TRAVESTY. This is and I( hate to use this forthcoming word because, trust and believe, I don't throw this word around lightly.)..I find this sentence THIS PARTICULAR EXAMPLE of our justice system, and to be brutally honest the PERPETRATOR of this ATROCITY..., I find THIS ENTIRE CONGLOMERATION to be DEMONIC. ANGER 🤬 does not even BEGIN TO DESCRIBE WHAT I THINK AND FEEL ABOUT THIS ATROCITY..
DEMONIC DOES... Perhaps if I thought that the perpetrator possessed ANY MODICUM OF REMORSE.... EVEN A MINISCULE MOLECULE OF REMORSE perhaps I would feel differently. I can ALMOST GUARANTEE I would feel DIFFERENTLY. I'm watching these other stories in this documentary, like the gentleman involved in the tragedy with the Amish family, THAT IS GENUINE REMORSE!!!!. I feel his situation and this situation, are on equidistant ends of a spectrum. If I had to explain it to my children, I guess I would state the gentleman I watched that exhibited what I would actually consider HOLY REMORSE, would be in let's say Gloucester Massachusetts. The CREATURE that PERPETRATED the CRIME on Debbie . Northernmost Siberia,.... with a heart that matches the FRIGID TEMPERATURE. if in fact said PERPETRATOR has not had AFOREMENTIONED HEART REMOVED, which I have entertained as I find the CALLOUS, THOUGHTLESS, COWARDLY, SELFISH, SELF-ABSORBED SELF-CENTERED ACTIONS, in a word... HEARTLESS..... (So yes the creature may NOT possess a heart). I also feel EXTREMELY JUSTIFIED in IDENTIFYING SAID PERPETRATOR as a CREATURE. IT is MY BELIEF in the DEEPEST RECESSES of my SOUL that a HUMAN BEING, with a SOUL and a CONSCIENCE would not do something so UNCONSCIONABLE, as evidence by the actions post accident. You know what? That's WAY TOO MUCH CREDIT for the CREATURE labeling this an "ACCIDENT" . This was a DELIBERATE ACT. "CHOOSING TO text is a DELIBERATE ACT karen"🤨🙄💯...(Does everyone know what a "karen" is .???) I apologize for this rant. I have just been SO TOUCHED by the majority of these stories, and so OUTRAGED by the story involving Debbie. For Debbie and her family, PLEASE know you will NOW and FOREVER ALWAYS be in my PRAYERS, and I send you ALL MY LOVE on BEHALF of the ENTIRE STATE OF MICHIGAN 💯💯🙏💗💗💗🤍🤍🤍

Truly heartbreaking stories every single one. I truly hope these families find their peace. What struck me also was the people who were the cause of so many peoples pain to speak out on what is clearly the most shameful day of their lives. It's never easy to admit when we have done wrong but to admit something so truly horrific for others to learn from well that shows a different level of character. Most people would take a cowards way out in this regard and never speak of it let alone admit to it. No winners here just a hope that the message is learned by someone before they get behind the wheel of a car.

Debbie’s story got me , that’s very disgusting that the teenage girl who hit her only got one month in jail ,5 months of home arrest , and 500 hours of community work , she should have been at the maximum sentence
Attempted wreck less homicide 15 years in prison 10 years probation, 5 years of community service if I was her judge trust me the maximum would be maxed out not to mention additional 1 year for texting while operating a motor vehicle, 2 extra years for negligence so 17 years total in prison then her 10 years of probation,5 years for community service

Did anyone in Debbie's family or Debbie ever use their Cell phone while operating a vehicle? They also learn a horrific lesson from the Driver that hit Debbie.
When will people STOP using Cell phones in their vehicles ????????????
I understand why Debbie doesn't want anything to do with the Driver. I hope the community service the Drivers undertakes was caring for someone that was injured in a traffic accident (with similars injuries as Debbie has - including doing personal hygenine care).

My Mother was T-Boned by a 21yo that had her 15yo sister in the car with her. It about killed my Mother, the force of the impact literally bent the entire front end of her car so bad that the car was in an almost perfect L shape. Had it been a nano second later she would of hit my Mother in her shoulder & it would of been instant death. This happened two days before Christmas, My Mother was on her way home from Church about a mile from her home & it was on a side street crossing a hi way at a light. Because there was the town cemetery right at a corner of the intersection there were 18 witnesses who had been visiting graves at the cemetery & very little traffic. All 18 witnesses said they saw the girls car coming so fast towards her Red Light & neither girls head was up the witnesses knew she wasn’t going to stop. My Mom has never had a wreck before or even a traffic ticket. The girl who hit Mom was texting for quite a distance & wasn’t looking up when she hit Mom, No Attempt at braking or swerving to avoid impact. This girl denied texting or talking on the phone & insisted she had the green light. Traffic cameras & her phone records along with witnesses obviously proved different. After watching this film I really wish she would of been like these folks and accepted responsibility & remorse, but she never did. The wreck happened almost 10yrs ago & the way it changed my Mothers life has been profound, she was unable to return to work & her balance has never been right, the pain was intense & frustration high. I would like this film shown in schools from Jr High thru College & make it a mandatory watch. Thank You For Making This Documentary & Blessings To All Involved. 🙏🏻

Its really bad when something like this happens. Very tragic . I’m 49 yrs old. I live in wv. Started driving off road for family at 15 yrs old. Soon as I could cross state lines with commercial goods I got my cdl’s and took off . I owned 5 coal trucks in 2000-2005. I know it was the guy textn’s fault. After watching this however and based on my experience there was another way to avoid the incident regarding the cowboy that drove that car in to the ditch killing the two occupants . The cowboy done mentioned that the texted had crossed the line several. Why is he right on his butt knowing he’s done crossed the line several. Now the cowboy has to see the vehicle coming. Know the risk at this point is extremely high of an accident. Why didn’t the cow fall back a little bit? He had to be on that texted Butt or real close. Just playn devils advocate here , was the cowboy having a little rage perhaps because the texted is screwing around in front of him. Hey, he is the only witness to it. Texted was textn. The other two are deceased. I was just thinkn about it thats all. Either rate it’s very tragic

My youngest son was in an accident very early on one morning in 2014 , it was pouring down rain and he was driving a large SUV and a man on a motorcycle was in the left turn lane beside my son, my son was on the inside lane and he was on the outside lane. They were both going when the light turned yellow, my son tried to stop but because it was raining his brakes locked up and slid right over the top of the motorcyclist and killed him instantly! My Son called me from the back of the police car, he was screaming and crying like I've never heard before! After the accident he was taken straight to police station for drug and alcohol testing. Of course he had no drugs or alcohol in his system. If he'd had any drugs or alcohol he would probably be sitting in jail today but he has to live with the fact that he killed a father of 4 and a husband, the only bread winner for his family. It tore my son to pieces. He had to take time off of work and try to come to terms with what happened! I spoke with him all day every day for a long time to try and get him to understand that it was an accident!!! Today he's doing good he's an Electrical Foreman. He's doing pretty good but still never forgets the man that died. People just be careful out there. He was not texting or anything. It was just a horrible accident!!!!

She not only texts while she drives, SHE HAS HER FONE IN HER LAP &PLAYS GAMES WHILE SHE DRIVES! & Almost worse, her driving is erratic cuz SHE HATES TO STOP AT LIGHTS OR STOP SIGNS, SO SHE USES ALTERNATIVE ROUTES LIKE PARKING LOTS, DRIVEWAYS,& ALLY'S! Her driving is SO BAD,SO NERVE-WRACKING, that I STARTED GETTING CARSICK FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY ADULT LIFE,&had to actually get medication prescribed for it, to handle being in her car!! For a long time, she was the only transportation I had,& I didn't have any other choice. I've tried countless times to try to get thru to her, even telling her, if she wants to risk her own life, that's her problem, but she has no right to put MY LIFE AT RISK when I'm in her car! SHE. WON'T. LISTEN. Not to me, not to her bf, not to her mother. She's convinced nothing will ever happen! Do you have ANY advice for dealing with someone like this?? Ironically, she's also a home health care nurse!! I'm at my wit's end, but terrified she's gonna kill herself or someone else one day... I'd like to not see that happen...

When are we going to be smart enough to understand that's our children we are putting behind the wheel when we get their first car or they get their learner's permit and so on and so forth make it a law they cannot start driving unless their car is Bluetooth enabled that it could handle the incoming messages and everything and they don't have to take their eyes off the road for a split second because the same way it takes a split second to get pregnant it takes a split second to take away that life so please you guys make all these laws and all these rules make that an official law you're not able to drive at all until your car is Bluetooth enabled and that's the only way that you get to drive because if you leave it on the phone and you take your eyes off the road you're gone I don't care how many commercials you have they're not going to listen until it becomes a law how many more kids are we going to bury how many more families are going to cry we have smartphones so make smart decisions don't expect your child to be the one to do the smart decision they have to have some kind of Bluetooth device in their vehicle that listens to the messages and reads it out my phone every time a message comes in it tells me who's it from and what it says if it's an emergency they can pull over if not make it a rule you cannot get a cell phone until your first four years of driving by yourself and not getting into an accident you have to come home to be able to message anyone and watch how fast the cemeteries start being less filled with our children passed a message forward and God we trust one land and one nation under God God gave us our children let's not send them back in a rush delivery because of a stupid driving accident

I'm going to hang up now when my son or daughter call me. I'd rather hang up & have them pissed off at me than to not have them. I don't like it when the call while they're driving. They say it's when they have time. Well, I don't want to be listening while they hit or are hit by someone else texting or talking on the phone. I'm sad to hear all these stories. I was an EMT/Fighter for 14 years answering about 100 calls a year, 90% medicals and traffic collisions. I never wanted to pull my kids out of a car . A California Highway Patrol Officer I knew, went on scene to a collision. He was sent to the hospital for a report where the 4 fatalities were taken. He watched the kids being brought in not knowing his 16 year old son was among those killed. He didn't recognize him from his injuries , mud & dirt. The driver had been texting. I cannot nor do I want to even imagine this. Do you? Didn't think so. Show your kids these videos. I grew up with titles called Red Asphalt & Death on the Highway. This was in the late 1960's. They were gruesome & horrific. These aren't allowed to be shown today. Maybe they should be.

The young culture today is one of follow the follower and conform to the norm, and an act becomes a habit when it no longer requires thought. That is the definition of texting/talking on the phone while driving. People young and old getting high on artificial intelligence, a very toxic cocktail.
