This video actually brought me a tear by the end. Reminded me when I lived in China for a few months. Daniel has the guts to move to another country by himself, not me. Something I'll never do. My family and home come 1st no matter what.
But Daniel, why are you speaking like you will never visit england again lol You traveled often around in your life, japan, korea, taiwan, so you can't travel a short time back to england? xd Just visit them and take your wife with you (when she has holidays and don't have to work)
カルマ [Karma] when you get a spouse visa you have to stay in the country for 6 months before you can leave again in the US, so I assume they probably have something similar in Japan
I agree as soon as you both have time go and visit home for a while, i think you'll regret it if you don't. As you were talking about missing home and your cats, made me sad for you.
Yeah but at least now it's just references as his main topic is that he misses home, that's the first time I hear that from him. All the recent videos are literally telling the same stories over again. But this is different
A yes Daniel, things we miss about Britain, Crumpet, Cornish pasties, steak and Kidney pudding, mushy peas, Cottage pie, Shepherd's pie, Chicken pie and chips, Saveloy and chips, Christmas pudding, Yorkshire pudding, roast beef, Bisto gravy, mint sauce, British rail BLTs, Danissssh Bacon.................nostalgia, sigh.
After living in a different country for a while you start to romanticize the life you had back home.. You reminisce about all the good moments / good stuff you had down there. Piece of advice : DON'T. When you do that you become completely oblivious to all the crap you had back there and the reasons why you left in the first place. Been there done that. Came back and after 2 weeks told myself it was the biggest mistake of my life. Now I will give anything to leave this shit hole 🕳 I'm in again. Bottom line : if you really had it as hard back home as you said in your vids always remind yourself of that. Do not fantasize about coming back to the good aspects of living in the UK. Remind yourself the shitty aspects and how you're so much better off in Japan instead.
Cheez Munkee Exactly this. My family moved to Germany and I started to think about all the good memories and good things in Slovakia (my home country). When I got back to Slovakia for a month for Christmas, I got quickly reminded of all the negative things.
that is normal after you lived in other country for a while and you will began to realize the good thing about your own country. you can just buy a return flight tickets to come back to England to visit with your wife now.
Don’t be so hard on yourself. Within a year you’ll be speaking Japanese as well as you do English. It’s amazing that you speak it as well as you do after such a short time so just give it time x
DipsyMum29 He has lived in Japan for a lot more than 8 months, he’s japanese is already excelent but not everyone can get to a native level, I lived in the US for 2 years but I’m not nearly as confortable speaking in english as I am in my native language
Matthew Luevanos brazilian portuguese, we use a really slangy and unique dialect on our everyday life so maybe thats why I find it difficult to fully express myself in another language
Tensai Oh I lived in Brazil a couple years and YES, what a hard language, hahah it's definitely beautiful tho, now when I speak with other Brazilians they think I'm also brazilian and that really makes me happy, it's so good to sound native in the languages you speak
Oh Daniel I want to hug you I feel so sad for you. But you can make shepherd's pie in Japan!!! I made it with ingredients mostly bought from Life supermarket: mince, onions, cheese, potatoes, carrots, and then bisto gravy and a bit of marmite to add flavour (from a place in Tokyo Hands). It's a really homely taste! I mean it doesn't solve your problems but it's something that could cheer you up. EDIT: The ending killed me.
It's generally only white bread in Japan and cheese varieties in the average supermarket for sandwiches only supply mozzarella/pizza cheese to "Slice Cheese"... (The "slice cheese" here in Japan is essentially the name of the flavour lol its a plain, pale-yellow coloured mystery cheese). And the meat they have is just ham. Nothing else; no turkey, chicken, or anything else. Even though it sounds unbelievable, making your own (non-ham) sandwich is nearly impossible here unless you go to the import store for those "normal" ingredients. That's why it's common in Japan to make katsu-sandwich, egg salad sandwich, or cream sandwiches because there's not much else you can do with the deli meats and cheese here :9 The sandwich struggle here in Japan is actually real and it's totally relatable lol
japanese people were super friendly and chatty with me. i had graduated highschool early when i went, they invited me to hang out and stay at their house for the night. Their parents weren't uncomfortable about me staying with them despite our age or gender. almost everynight for a few weeks i'd stay at different peoples house, friends of friends, or strangers i'd run into.
Wow Daniel, this video actually made me cry because it reminded me of my times living in China. It's very emotional. The longest I lived outside the US was 3.5 months. One more month and I wouldn't have made it. You, on the other hand, are mentally strong, brave and have a lot of guts. There's no way I would leave my family, friends, job, diet, lifestyle and hometown behind, even if I was paid millions and lived with the girl of my dreams. My family will always come first no matter what, plus they need me and I need them. I know, I don't have the guts like you. Respect for you.
Aw. I relate to that homesickness and the anxiety. I feel like you are not selfish. I am v selfish in that at times, I didn't even want to open the door to people who needed to check our flat for problems. :( I need to somehow thank my SO for being so understanding. I hope you do get to see your cats again. On a positive note, you have an awesome new schedule!
Aww, Daniel...that was very touching. I understand. I love my cats so much, too. It must be difficult to feel that you're now permanently so far away from all those things.😕
Don't worry Danny, you'll see your pets and family again. It takes time to adjust to a new country. How you feel is normal. It will help you re construct your past through more appreciative eyes whenever you remember it now and that will make you stronger as you learn to value your origin and life experiences more. Your experiences now are helping you to value your wife as well and eventually your stronger foundation will enable you to build a beautiful life that you'll be proud to share with your family back home when you visit. I am a cat lover as well and I understand how you miss your cats but I have loved and lost many cats and each time I lose one I always feel like I could never love another cat as much. But they all come with their own little unique personalities and I always manage to find one that steals my heart and I always end up loving it more! Cheer up Danny. You'll be okay. We're all right here with you every step of the way.
I living in Japan now for 3 years..my experience has been opposite yours.people always come to me for conversation, always curious to know where in from and all.just yesterday an old lady and gave my 9 month rice cake which was so nice of her.
I think this is one of the funniest but emotional videos you've posted
6 лет назад
When I went to us for 3 months I missed my cat back at home... and my sister told me that she waits for me everyday outside the door of my room :(.. When I returned home it was happy.
somehow i love sseing this kind of videos from, i learn much more about you and how it is as a foreigner/someone from another cl uture to live in japan. And this is extremly helpfull for me as iwant to go to japan for alonger time. Was there for 2 weeks (first time) in tokio as i wanted to see if liked it there and i liked it a lot.
Love you Daniel...been watching you for some time and i think you are hilarious and also have same mentality as you same view of the world ....and explain it so well.
I came across your channel about few days ago.And I can't stop watching your videos. The reason why I found your channel was so bizarre, I want to improve my English listening skills in the first place,😂then I realized this is a super interesting channel. Best wishes to you.
I had a pie at 'Pie Face' in Shibuya. Was pretty good. They have a few more stores around Japan. I missed some British food when I moved to the US, particularly sausages. After a while, I realized that there is a lot of variety of food, and it's better to find something new and better to eat rather than focus on the stuff I miss. I still miss Steak Puddings, and I've been on a long quest to find suet so I can make my own.
Yorkshire pudding.i lived in Taiwan I got depressed in Taiwan.i was a teacher in Taiwan I became friends with a British teacher we would talk and talk and talk on the bus.
Well, there's a business opportunity: Daniel's English Sandwich Shop.
Andrew Ashling i thought that plus importing bacon or making it
Andrew Ashling that's actually a good idea

Why not start a new business, selling crow pies? Kill 2 birds with one stone, literally and figuratively.
You look like ur crying on the thumbnail :o
BlaZe I think he knows

He is. If you go to 8:12 or so, you see he's actually so sad he starts crying.

This video actually brought me a tear by the end. Reminded me when I lived in China for a few months. Daniel has the guts to move to another country by himself, not me. Something I'll never do. My family and home come 1st no matter what.
i can only say one thing: i love cats, they are the best
But Daniel, why are you speaking like you will never visit england again lol
You traveled often around in your life, japan, korea, taiwan, so you can't travel a short time back to england? xd
Just visit them and take your wife with you (when she has holidays and don't have to work)
カルマ [Karma] Daniel has serious anxiety and can flip himself out over seemingly routine things. I'm sure he will eventually.
He’s been exiled from GB! They don’t him polluting the DNA pool.
カルマ [Karma] when you get a spouse visa you have to stay in the country for 6 months before you can leave again in the US, so I assume they probably have something similar in Japan

This is actually a good video and not just another filler repeating yourself Daniel
Keep it up. and get a cat
really? but he said all of it before, the bacon, the crows, his cats, his family
Yeah but at least now it's just references as his main topic is that he misses home, that's the first time I hear that from him.
All the recent videos are literally telling the same stories over again. But this is different
忍野忍 it was a really emotional video that was fantastic imo
Umm... how about you make your own sandwich????
This was such a sweet video, stay strong through the tough times man!
Your explanation about pies... bloody spectacular 😂😂😂😂😂
A yes Daniel, things we miss about Britain, Crumpet, Cornish pasties, steak and Kidney pudding, mushy peas, Cottage pie, Shepherd's pie, Chicken pie and chips, Saveloy and chips, Christmas pudding, Yorkshire pudding, roast beef, Bisto gravy, mint sauce, British rail BLTs, Danissssh Bacon.................nostalgia, sigh.
Being awkward at first is part of learning.

Tensai What's your native language?
he has zero contact with other Japanese people, if he doesn't change his lifestyle in 10 years his level will be the same as now
Matthew Luevanos brazilian portuguese, we use a really slangy and unique dialect on our everyday life so maybe thats why I find it difficult to fully express myself in another language

I JUST made that same comment LOL. Maybe sandwiches are too difficult for him to make!!
this anime is deeper than i thought...
Yeah I definitely associate the sound of crows with zombie apocalypse
how the hell he makes the most everyday british things seem so great. I feel grateful of those little things now 😂😊
Nailed it with the pie rant.
THE CONTENT I WAS WAITING FOR
“...sometimes not getting what you want is the greatest stroke of luck. ...”
You forgot cream pies are huge in Japan.
"they look dead inside" i knew japan was the place for me

I know exactly how you feel... I moved away from my home and family back in 2004 to an island and I'm still homesick all these years later.
Do you really mean pie by saying pie or it is just another cereal
Cereal is the secret word for some things people do. It's so his videos don't get flagged and deleted.
I living in Japan now for 3 years..my experience has been opposite yours.people always come to me for conversation, always curious to know where in from and all.just yesterday an old lady and gave my 9 month rice cake which was so nice of her.
