This Duolingo speedrun had one of the slowest starts so far, even though I wasn't doing all that bad. It was long and hard and made it difficult for me to stay sitting down (yes, we're still talking about Hungarian). When will it end? Or should I rather ask: "will it end"? I'm not sure either of those questions have an answer. Guess we'll have to stay till the end and find out!
We're very close to finish speedrunning every language on Duolingo. So far it's been 34 different languages, and there's only 3 left after this to complete the challenge. The end is nigh!

Non native speakers of Hungarian learning Hungarian is fun to watch
I can imagine 🤣🤣
@@jccbmit's really nice seeing the suffering
We suffer with english, now it's payback time 🤣🤣🤣🤣

As a Hungarian, hearing you pronounce our words made me feel a lot of things
It's good to see you here, old friend! (btw you are a disappointment I never want to see you again just joking)
@@anonymus9570 Truly, to see a friend is better than to feel the warmth of heaven

Yep. Hungary was first in line when cases were handed out.
Jaja pontosan🤣
Hungarian truly the Duolingo final boss, the other remaining ones are just the dlc/optional levels
Sounds accurate
Szerintem annyira nem egy nehéz nyelv, de én ide születtem, szóval ez is beleszámít.
How is it the final boss for me if im hungaryan? Same fro other hungaryans
Not only we are one of the hardest languages we made unfairly big things, like... The computer, helicopters, FUCKING PENS,
I'm hungarian and i really enjoyed this video! Your pronunciation is amazing. Hajrá! 🙌❤
Thank you! 😃
Its so funny how many hungarians watched this. Im hungarian too and I think your pronunviation is pretty good if you consider you never learnt the langauge normally and how bad mmy english is. LOL
As a Hungarian i learn Japanese with duolingo and its really easy because i found the grammar similar. The one thing that gets me is the writing.
Also check out hungarian runic script.
It's always fun when you find a language that shares format with others
For memorizing the writing easier I recommend Busuu. It makes you memorize the "letters'" using pictures. It really helped me with it. - a fellow Hungarian learning Japanese by himself. >.
His memorizing skill (or rather technique) is actually proved to be really good internet content, and I was here for the memes
Glad to hear that!
Wow! As a Hungarian, I can say that your pronunciation is good! Not many foreign people try to learn Hungarian, therefore I think we (native speakers) are not used to hearing different accents, and it makes it hard for us to understand people who don't speak hungarian as a native language. But your accent and pronunciation is really great, I could easily understand it, without making an effort! 😀
Well it's great to hear (or read, I guess) that!
The airplane/airport thing gets easy to remember one you learn the difference between the bits at the end.
tér = place (also 'square', in the context of say, 'town square', a place or space)
gép = machine
So a literal translation, roughly:
repülőgép = flying machine
repülőtér = flying place
I've heard that Hungarian is, in general, quite a logical language (like the examples you mentioned). Grammar might be a feral beast, but I'm quite fond of logic behind languages.
@@jccbm and "légtér" = "airspace" :D
Where "lég" = "air, the substance that you breathe in, air materia". A lot of words are conjugated (dare I say "conjured") with the "lég" stem.
óvónő → óvó + nő = guarding/protecting woman (because she protects children, she looks after them).
rendőr → rend + őr = order guard
tűzoltó → tűz + oltó = fire + extinguisher = a person who extinguishes fires.
tűzoltó készülék → tűz + oltó + készülék = fire + extinguisher + appliance → so it's fire extinguisher.
étterem → ét(kezés) + terem = eating room
Duolingo forces learners to use the word "szálloda", but actually we call it hotel. 😅 Okay, szálloda is also used.
You have just summoned every single Hungarian account on RUclips (myself included, lmao : D). Your pronunciation is actually pretty good, you'd be understood if you spoke like this. Sure it's a beginner pronunciation, but you can nail down most of our hardest vowels pretty well, I'd say :D
Hahaha thanks! Yeah, there's been a good amount of Hungarians recently over here. I love the reception, you guys are awesome!
As a Hungarian this was absolutely hilarious to watch! Your pronunciation is incredibly good.
Always happy to hear that! Köszönöm szépen
As a Hungarian who also speaks Spanish, I had a good laugh at 3:32, thank you 🤣
Your Hungarian pronunciation is amazing, congrats 🙂
LOL I never made these connections with szálloda - salad, katona - katana, youre a genius 😂
Edit: your pronounciation is pretty amazing
Thanks! Hahaha I need to find a way to quickly remember. Those dumb associations help a lot.
That stream was awesome, Hungarian has a place in my heart. Beautiful pronunciation! Hungarian is really hard because it is very different from anything else, Kató Lomb, a very famous and smart polyglot was hungarian, she learned many languages from just studying novels and dictionaries. She learned so many different languages, like chinese and japanese, latin and english, but anything remotely close to hungarian, like finnish, was her downfall. Maybe that is why I am attracted to it, its beautiful complexity.
"Otthon nem vezetek" has another meaning: "I don't drive when I'm in my hometown/home country", so when you visit your parents' town and you go to the local store by car, it's driven by your mum/dad/sibling.
There are a lot of nuances. E.g. „fiút keres” vs „ _egy_ fiút keres”. The one without the particle implies a young lover/boyfriend, not a child. Unless it's a reply to someone thinking of looking for a _girl_ .
Many of these sentences are random hungarian words put together just to make a complete somewhat normal looking sentence 😂
Amazing video and your pronunciation is great! Stupid ő ű vowels can drive people crazy 😁
Thanks! Yeah, that's how Duolingo works hahaha, as long as the sentence has words you learned before, there's no need to make much sense 🤣
Next time, I am 100% sure you will get klingon and probably me too
👀
I love that you included a Good Burger clip (10:41) because they recently announced they're making a sequel 20+ years later
Wow, that's insane. Didn't know that actually!
Hungarian alphabets are chaotic(but Vietnamese is more chaotic)
Tones are fun though
As I wrote for your previous video, you are very good! You know more and more!!! I am very happy that there is a foreigner from a distant country who is interested in our language😊
Thanks! It is quite interesting. And the deeper you go the more complex it becomes :S
Trust me, for a foreigner your Hungarian prononciation is excellent, especially how quick you picked up on it.
If it's five, I'm gonna cry. Well, it wasn't five, so you didn't have to cry.
And I didn't! I only briefly lamented my life and regretted my decisions for a handful of seconds.
I laughed out loud when I saw just how many it was
I wonder, between all the Duolingo vocabulary, are Pokemon.
I can make a while Pokemon rap of duolingo words that are Pokemon
As a Hungarian person some of these sentences in Duolingo were wrong lol, and I was laughing at your confusion the whole time! And even though you never spoke the language your pronunciation was really good!
I'm learning Hungarian and using duolingo a lot and hearing your confusion and frustration as a professional polyglot is SO VALIDATING FOR ME HAHA
Wow, I've been once in Budapest in 2017 and I still remember that palyudvar is station. Thanks for one more fun entertaining video! Waiting to see Hebrew :) Do you have not edited versions on twitch?

That was pretty entertaining, I like your funny little edits as well :D
I'm so happy that you tried the hungarian leanguage! :) Ik it's hard, a lot ppl say that and I can totally understand! Your pronunciation was also amazing, but really! U did a great job! Keep it up! 😊
Minden elismerésem! Gondolataim nálad sertepertélnek, aztán írok pár olyan kifejezést, amit nem tanítanak, mert ilyen bengakirály vagyok. Hmm. Agyalnom kell most, nem jut eszembe semmi zseniség. Na megyek, eszek egy kis rántott csucsorkát. További sok sikert! :D
I think it was so hard because you tried to memorize words as a whole, but many of them were conjugated ones like kórház = kór + ház, which means malady + house; étterem (restaurant) comes from the verb for eating: étkezés, and terem which means a room. If you build a vocabulary overtime and you can recognize the patterns in which words are formed you can learn hungarian much easier (if anyone wants to try).
You are underrated
Thanks! ♥️
As a fellow Hungarian myself I loved whatching you struggle with our language :)
15:09 This makes our grammar classes very interesting. We used to practice conjugation a lot, still there are people who can't or don't want to use them well.
19:06 The best moment xD I'm crying 😂 The suffering is just beginning 😆 You're doing pretty good btw! These are such random sentences...
It's another good video I love watching Duolingo speedruns
Hi, it's great to watch this as a Hungarian, especially because even I suffer with this language when I speak it. 😂😂 :D Good luck learning the language. :D
"Az eladó jó kenyeret keres", can mean "The salesperson is looking for good bread" as you said, but it also can mean "The salesperson earn a good money" sometimes. XD this is the real beauty of the hungarian leanguage I think.
Nice! Well in English we would informally say "dough" to refer to money also! And in Spanish we use "pasta" 🤣🤣
Maybe in your dialect, but not in standard Hungarian. There are related expressions, but with different wording.
@@CsatadiMég sose hallottad a kifejezést, hogy kenyeret keresni?!
@@slopejane Más a szövegösszefüggés. Így ebben a formában erre nem használjuk. Lehet ti igen.

This is really fun to watch
If I were the creator of duolingo I would add some random pokemon names just to mess with people.
I mean, this language already messes up with people, so there might not be a need for that!
2:26 I don't want to ruin the joke( weeell maybe I will a little bit):D
Óvó: protector
Nő: woman
So it's basically a woman protecting children. :D
You can also say "óvodapedagógus", which is gender-free, so can be used to refer to men and women too. It is the mirror translation for kindergarten teacher. :D
(And now that I have seen the whole series, I can say you did a great job! Hungarian is reeeeally hard, even for natives. :D )
There is also védőnő which is Védő: Defender, Nő: Woman....basically a woman defending children.
Your pronunciation is very good!! :) I've never heard a non native speaker spell our words this well :)
Haha, these sentences are hilarious. We would hardly ever say stuff like this, but they are grammatically correct. 😁 Well done! Honestly, both videos on the Hungarian duolingo speedrun just made me laugh out loud. You are awesome, but the sentences are too funny. 😆😆

Nyelvlecke
Egyik olaszóra sodrán,
Ím a kérdés felmerült:
Hogy milyen nyelv ez a magyar,
Európába hogy került?
Elmeséltem, ahogy tudtam,
Mire képes a magyar.
Elmondtam, hogy sok, sok rag van,
S hogy némelyik mit takar,
És a szókincsben mi rejlik,
A rengeteg árnyalat,
Példaként vegyük csak itt:
Ember, állat hogy halad?
Elmondtam, hogy mikor járunk,
Mikor mondom, hogy megyek.
Részeg, hogy dülöngél nálunk,
S milyen, ha csak lépdelek.
Miért mondom, hogy botorkál
Gyalogol, vagy kódorog,
S a sétáló szerelmes pár,
Miért éppen andalog?
A vaddisznó, hogy ha rohan,
Nem üget, de csörtet - és
Bár alakra majdnem olyan
Miért más a törtetés?
Mondtam volna még azt is hát,
Aki fut, miért nem lohol?
Miért nem vág, ki mezőn átvág,
De tán vágtat valahol.
Aki tipeg, miért nem libeg,
S ez épp úgy nem lebegés, --
Minthogy nem csak sánta biceg,
S hebegés nem rebegés!
Mit tesz a ló, ha poroszkál,
Vagy pedig, ha vágtázik?
És a kuvasz, ha somfordál,
Avagy akár bóklászik.
Lábát szedi, a ki kitér,
A riadt őz elszökell.
Nem ront be az, aki betér...
Más nyelven, hogy mondjam el?
Jó lett volna szemléltetni,
Botladozó, mint halad,
Avagy milyen őgyelegni?
Egy szó - egy kép - egy zamat!
Aki „slattyog”, miért nem „lófrál”?
Száguldó hová szalad?
Ki vánszorog, miért nem kószál?
S aki kullog, hol marad?
Bandukoló miért nem baktat?
És ha motyog, mit kotyog,
Aki koslat, avagy kaptat,
Avagy császkál és totyog?
Nem csak árnyék, aki suhan,
S nem csak a jármű robog,
Nem csak az áradat rohan,
S nem csak a kocsi kocog.
Aki cselleng, nem csatangol,
Ki „beslisszol” elinal,
Nem „battyog” az, ki bitangol,
Ha mégis: a mese csal!
Hogy a kutya lopakodik,
Sompolyog, majd meglapul,
S ha ráförmedsz, elkotródik.
Hogy mondjam ezt olaszul?
Másik, erre settenkedik,
Sündörög, majd elterül.
Ráripakodsz, elódalog,
Hogy mondjam ezt németül?
Egy csavargó itt kóborol,
Lézeng, ődöng, csavarog,
Lődörög, majd elvándorol,
S többé már nem zavarog.
Ám egy másik itt tekereg,
-- Elárulja kósza nesz --
Itt kóvályog, itt ténfereg...
Franciául, hogy van ez?
S hogy a tömeg miért özönlik,
Mikor tódul, vagy vonul,
Vagy hömpölyög, s még sem ömlik,
Hogy mondjam ezt angolul?
Aki surran, miért nem oson,
Vagy miért nem lépeget?
Mindezt csak magyarul tudom,
S tán csak magyarul lehet. . .!

Bruh this hungarian language is not easy, I wanted to learn the Hungarian language myself with a Ukrainian translation, but it is not there and instead of Ukrainian there is only English, because with English I have more or less problems with translation, if they added a Ukrainian or Russian translation, it would be a different matter, and even then the Hungarian language too difficult to learn.
It is a hard language indeed
@@jccbmYes, this language is hard but logic. Using quick assotiation to memorize words can be only a temporal solution. You should learn basic, simple words first and some suffixes that make new words (nouns, adjectives, verbs). After that you would handle coumpound words more easily. (számítógép = computer, because szám = digit, számít = calculate, számító = sg or sb doing the calculation, gép = machine, so számítógép is a machine doing calculations)

Yep. It's the typical folyt versus fojt problem. The first one is the past tense of the word flow, the second one is choking someone/something.
I’m really impressed with your progress, however you have to admit that this is the easy part of hungarian, now you can join the pretty exclusive club of non hungarian people who can describe stuff vaguely.
