Big UPGRADES for the BIG BUD

- Опубликовано: 15 авг 2024
- We've used GPS auto-guidance systems for many years on Welker Farms. This typically means an awkward motor mounted over our steering wheel and a mess of electrical cables across the dash. It worked but no where close to the accuracy of integrated systems. Working through our local dealer Torgerson, CASE IH equipped our 600/50 BIG BUD with a PRO 700 monitor and fully integrated auto-steer! It works so well it is almost as if the system was designed for this BUD. Plus...it has AccuTurn!

Being and old Farm boy and Ag tech seeing an older piece of equipment still working and then able to be refurbished with new technology, IT'S a Freak'n awesome BUD
Thanks, Blessed Easter!
Who ever that guy is from Case IH that hooked up that system, Case IH better be paying him big money because their plenty of companies that will. Man is that guy sharp. Great video guys!
He's worth 3 techs....agree.. Thanks, Blessed Easter!
Seriously smart, but also a great communicator
@@michaeljohnson3181 Does he realize the money he could make if he got out of Shelby MT? That guy is amazing.
@@billcarlson8615 Not disagreeing at all, there are plenty of opportunities out and about but generally come at a sacrifice. Its not all about money, I don't know this guy or his background but maybe he grew up there and or has family and friends around there. SO making a living and being where he wants to be/around family and friends is worth allot.
If you look at him and how hes composed, he shows he enjoys his work, enjoys the company and being able to do this stuff. Not everything is money, happiness talks and people take major pay cuts just to go to a job where they're happy rather than minted. Hes happy and that's makes us as customers happy, win win.
You guys are awesome. Saving that Big Bud for the next generation is a real miracle.
That's nice to update an older Big Bud. I can see the value of that over buying a new tractor.
Huge is what it is.
Is quite the savings. Stay safe, Blessed Easter!
Man-o-man did Torgerson's do a GREAT JOB! Thanks, Torgerson's and Case IH!
THey did. Thanks, Blessed Easter!
I shed a tiny small tear rolled down my face when I seen that bud and all his technology put into him.... can’t wait to see him in action!!!! Don’t tell my wife I cryed over a tractor!
It's all right, we'll keep it just between us.
We won't ..... if you don't tell on me 😊Thanks, Blessed Easter!
Don't tell Zach this, but I find your videos more interesting and fun to watch. I enjoy Zach and his dad greatly, and getting to see the new machines and tech is fun and all, but YOU guys rock the house in upgrading older machines, recycling used equipment to give it new life. THAT is so cool!
And Robert, now that I have your waffle recipe, I hope to create some of my own starter this coming week!
Those Torgerson guys are great on camera!
They were a class act!
It's funny cause Stephen is my brother
I want to thank the welker family farms and all involved send your people over to the harmless farmer( andy detwiler) channel when he was live streaming. You farmers are the best and we thank you all for what you do. My brother has cancer and has had his voice box removed and a large portion of his throat. God bless you all for careing about others as you do from the bottom of my heart and from jesus christ for you do show love to others in need.
So sorry to hear about your brother 😔 glad to know he is alive! Yes Andy needs all the support he can get and as much as we love to have viewers following us, it means so much more to follow Andy and support him right now. Just happy to have been able to make a small contribution when able.
Welker Farms Inc I don’t know how small it was but okay. 😂 we did flood his stream with 3 times as many people he’s ever had.
I had to watch Harmless Farmer's live stream the point when they were inundated with the people who came over! It was *VERY TOUCHING!*
That was a whole lot better than burning 3 gallons if fuel starting *BIG BUD* !
The way Big Bud designed and built those tractors, its almost like they left room to add on nearly anything people came up with to their machines long after they were built. You now have a tractor with the technology of a new machine with the reliability of the old machine because it doesn't have DEF or complex multi clutch or CVT transmission. Since it is running the same transmission as a heavy duty truck if for some reason Montana mandated emissions on tractors you can just bolt in an emission compliant engine. With proper maintenance there really is no reason this Big Bud won't be planting crops 50+ years from now.
We hope to do exactly that, keep them running for many years to come. This particular BUD uses a twin disc power shift and that could create issues down the road in regards to parts but for now twin disc still provides support for them.
@@WelkerFarms Twin disk is in racine Wi just down the road from caseIH
@@WelkerFarms but I do believe it is very probable to install/convert/upgrade to an Eaton-Fuller like the other as well or am I wrong?
@@WelkerFarms Twindisk in use in so many other pieces of equipment you should have no worries.
That Montana has no legal right to "mandate emissions on tractors" isn't in the authority nor power of Montana. What really happens is that Montana chooses to NOT enforce the federal laws. They just look the other way at this time.
It's a money-thing. The Feds spend a lot of money in matching funds for highway and bridges and infrastructure - that if they withheld it for the fact that Montana doesn't enforce their air quality laws, then those funds will dry up. At that point, Montana will definitely start inspecting and enforcing EPA rules.
The guy that worked on big bud is worth every bloody Dollar 💵 with the Technology and the auto drive
When I was a kid on the Farm a serious upgrade to the Tractor was a new tire...
Time have really changed.
Or a new set of weights, sure has changed
Tires are still a upgrade :)
@@RobertWelkerFarmerBob, Robert listening to the engineering speak in this video, I thought I was back in mid 1960s listening to NASA engineers or astronaut commentators explaining the space craft workings. Sure anyone can be a farmer.....Thanks to all of you and your guests consultants.
Yup. I used to rake hay with a McCormick D model with spread front axle. we baled with an old square baler driven by a Cockshutt 50. we put up 10 bale stoooks (easy to count and bunch up and haul). we hauled with F150 4X4 (60+ bales) and an F250 (80+ bales). I've never been in as good a physical condition since then...
A tractor and an upgrade that really makes sense. Wonder if anyone ever imagined this longevity. Old iron,Best Iron. Congrats again on partnership.
That has got to be the best looking tractor I've seen in my life. I'm ready to see her in the field
We are too. Thanks, Blessed Easter!
Legarms I watched the video last night ( April 11, 2020 ). You may think you are not as smart as the guys with Torgerson's, but in your own way I know you are. Keep up the Welker Farm with the LORD first, as you guys do, family time, work and repairs that you do along with your father and brother. I watch all new video's and have watched about all the video's dated back to over a year. GOD Bless you all.

As others have said, bringing old iron up to modern levels is fantastic. A lot of people won't understand just how much difference this can make. It might not seem like that big of a deal if an expensive upgrade will only get you a few extra bushels of crop per acre. But when you're farming 100's or 1000's of acres, those extra bushels pay off. This was great video. It's really nice to see how you guys are not only embracing the technology, but are flexible enough (and knowledgeable enough) to pull parts from different machines to integrate into the new stuff. Well done.
Thanks, Big Bud is worthy of this upgrade! Stay safe, Blessed Easter!
WOW these guys are SHARP!! Most impressed with there professionalism and skill. Top Job Guys! I own heavy equipment and our local guys couldn't even demonstrate the functions properly on a new excavator last year. This is light years ahead of anything I have.
The Case IH guys and all involved did an awesome job, full credit to them for this fantastic job.

Great upgrade to keep this Big Bud a top of the line machine. As long as fuel and oil costs stay reasonably low, there is no way to ever justifying a new tractor. Long live Big Bud! 🤴
Actually they are almost as fuel efficient. Figured around .6 gal / acre seeding.

Hands down. THE BEST VIDEO I HAVE EVER SEEN. TONS of info for tor the novice. Just amazing to see 2020 technology on a 70’s model tractor. Your Buds may or may not be “sub inch” accuracy but the literal MILLIONS of dollars you have saved in refurbishing your machines will pay off. I’m guessing the money you spent this winter refurbishing all your equipment would not buy 1 new machine. Very nice video keep up the good work. The family doesn’t care if a 1970 Bud put dinner on the table or a brand new 2020.
We love this old but tough equipment. Thanks, Blessed Easter!
I have not been to your channel in a while and I came back because I knew I was missing out on something cool
Thanks for coming back!
As a New Holland Precision Farming Specialist I found this pretty cool. I would advise that you go and record all your field boundaries so that you can see area remaining when in operation. It also helps when you are questioning how much fuel, seed or fert is needed to finish the paddock. Plus once you record all your boundaries, import them into the Pro700’s in your combines then yield/ha and area remaining will again advise fuel requirements or how many trucks you need to wrap up harvest in the field. Enjoy the new setup.
Cool info to know. Thanks Chris! Blessed Easter!
Hello Welker Sir, so nice to see farmers keep on the technology path. Hope that later this year I will be in your area to stop by and say hello. Look forward to see the BIG BUD tractor. Do not be surprised if I insist on taking it for a spin. Hope all will work out for you Sir. And look forward to walk the huge spread of ground with hopefully you pick me up when I an at the edge. I have to say you sold me with having your own canon. Go CaseIH.
IT's a blast. Thanks, Blessed Easter!
Here in michigan we have a hn 250 bigbud tractor it's currently runing our degleman 9600 rock picker. It's a little overkill for the rock picker but it requires 150 hp and high flow hydraulics. We have agleader GPS on it we pick rocks in 35 feet swaths across our fields. the GPS ensures straight passes.
Anthony Banda you’re farming rocks?
In a way kind of. We sell the larger stones to landscapers. The GPS ensures a more thorough sweep of the fields. It's very hard to get all of the stones. But what is really difficult is driving straight and being fast at it. One baseball sized stone can do 20 thousand in damages to a combine. The disk blades and planter openers we save is excellent. We do custom farming as well and I'm currently working on a neighbors fields in exchange for some leftover spring wheat seed.
That was alot of work ! looks like it came out great.
Bob is thinking"Yah I lined the tractor up with that fence post a mile down the field". Wow has farming come along ways....Great video guys, have a Blessed Easter.....

@@RobertWelkerFarmerBob thx you to
Wow! That is a big upgrade. I noticed a couple of things. You guys probably accounted for all of this but I thought I would mention it. 1) At about 16:50 in the video the CASE IH guy mentions 5000 psi. The manifold below the steering sector looks to be anodized aluminum which is typically only rated for 3000 psi. For pressures over 3K manifolds should be made of ductile iron. Hopefully the pump is not set to 5000 psi. 2) Most load sense pumps need to have a case drain line. Usually there is two ports. Make sure you are hooked to the upper most port. That line should be plumbed as close to the reservoir return port as possible to keep the back pressure to a minimum. If the back pressure on the case drain is too high it can wreck the pump. 3) At 9:18 Leg Arms is talking about the hydraulic system. Looking at the hydraulic line to the left of the steering sector, based on the looks of the green lay line on the hose, thee hose appears to have a twist in it, which probably occurred when it was tightened. If it is twisted it would be good to take the twist out. The line will last longer.
Good catches Jef. I noticed the 5K also. This Bud is set for 2800 to 3k. I'll check the drain length. Steven definitely knows his stuff. Appreciate Thanks, Blessed Easter!

Who brought load sensing pressure compensated hydraulics into agriculture?
Allis Chalmers in 1973
Fiat in 1974:
*it's free real estate*
I understand load sensing, but what is pressure compensating?
@@jessehall8168 it gives you the exact amount of oil needed to do the job, it compensated for the flow and the load, so the tractor wasn't wasting horse power and fuel giving you 15 gallons of oil at 2500 psi when 2 gallons at 500 psi was all that was needed
Jesse Hall pressure compensating is a system that as soon as you start the tractor it just boosts up to whatever pressure the pumps set at and stays at that pressure which wastes hp etc when it's pumping at full pressure when not needed!!
@@RJ1999x so it maintains constant pressure (I think). Is it done by a T in the line feeding back to control the swashplate in a variable displacement pump? Or a sensor feeding data back to a computer controlling the pump?
