I remember this recipe...my mother-in-law taught me how to make it back in the middle 90's, and I fell in love with it immediately. Dressing is light. I cut the sugar back a bit, however what we never did was toast the ramen...oh my goodness, really brings out the flavour!! I lost the recipe after she passed away and was doing an extensive search today until I found your recipe! This was always a big hit no matter how much people "swore" they disliked cabbage. As you, I made a ginormous bowl and ate most myself!!! My M-I-L said is was called Fumi salad but when I looked that up it came up as Fugi...either way, yummy taking to my next potluck. They'll go crazy because Southern mayo-based cold slaw is, well boring...thank you

Finally! Found the most similar to my aunts!! She used Napa cabbage instead of coleslaw mix! Thank you for making this!

Excellent Amy. This is a reeeel crowd pleaser. I brought it to a potluck luncheon. They made an announcement.....stopped everything.....who brought the Asian Crunchy Salad? I actually didn’t respond. The salad was in aluminum pan.I was in an impish mood. Freaked everyone out. They never knew who. But the sure wanted to know and they loved it!

Sounds like me. I also have played bingo but never yelled bingo if i got it. I dont acknowledge raffle ticket wins in a crowd. I dont dance in front of people. I've made it pretty far in life being impish. Hail introverts

I had this salad about 25 years ago at a friends house. Like the added cranberries and toasted nuts.

I remember this salad from the 80's. A few versions were at every pot luck. I dont remember it with the seasoning packs though. Will try this!

Until *YOU* , I've not heard *ANYONE* pronounce Ramen with a long "A" :) I've *ALSO* not seen the recipe where the *NOODLES* were toasted too, wow! I might take that extra step when making it , and oh...*APPLE CIDER VINEGAR* is better (IMO) than the white vinegar you add, just sayin'~~~:)

Watching this it looked like you were looking up at the ceiling.
I do not mean this to be critical but it was a little hard to watch like that. Love the salad though. Your home looked very clean and CLUTTER free. Have fun caving and with your friends. Glad you can enjoy that and have people to share that with.

Oriental is a rug. Asian anything that belongs to the eastern world. I would call it a chrunchy asian coleslaw recipe.

The orient is a region. There is nothing wrong with the term oriental

I totally agree! I just call it that because that's the flavor of ramen noodles I use to make the dressing.

I doubt the original poster will ever come back here. I dont know what they saw wrong. Maybe how far away the camera was or that some people don't say Oriental anymore or how she says ramen. But i found all three to be funny and endearing. Also anyone born past the nineties has no nostalgia of putting ramen in a salad.
