Scenting your home with natural fragrances is a lot easier than you may think. Follow along with our simple DIY project to learn how to make your own reed diffuser. This simple craft looks attractive in any home. And, unlike store-bought air fresheners, it keeps homes smelling clean and fresh without the use of phthalates, VOCs, hazardous air pollutants and synthetic fragrances. Instead, they use bamboo skewers and essential oils-concentrated botanical oils derived from nature-to naturally scent spaces. In this reed diffuser oil recipe, we use peppermint essential oil, which is a very popular oil in aromatherapy. There are many uses for peppermint essential oil, including using it an at-home reed diffuser.
More on air fresheners from Mother Earth Living: With the sweet scent and aromatherapy benefits of botanicals wafting through your home, you'll never want to consider a store-bought plug-in again. And there are many good reasons to ditch commercial air fresheners. Most contain formaldehyde, a well-known human carcinogen, and phthalates, which are hazardous chemicals known to cause hormonal abnormalities, birth defects and even reproductive problems. Instead, banish bad smells with natural air fresheners, including vinegar, baking soda and essential oils!

I'm stunned. Given this is an assistant editor from Mother Earth, and she espouses the importance of naturalness and honesty...2 big worries:
    1) Nothing natural about that green screen she's before. Notice the fuzzy silhouette around her and its interaction with the background.
    2) She has no clue that bamboo skewers do not wick.

There is a difference of opinion about bamboo skewers working fine in diffusers (cut off tips). And who cares that she put a fake background in to make her surroundings look nicer? What does that have to do with anything? (If she did do that.)

All the recipes I have seen online include rubbing alcohol. I thought it was an essential ingredient. Can you explain why your recipe doesn't include it please?
    Thanks from the UK 🇬🇧

If you have pets make sure the EO you use is pet safe. In this video she uses Peppermint, but it is NOT dog safe!

Bamboo skewers wil NOT work (too thick) needs to be actual REED sticks for oil to travel thru

Posters here keep saying that. They are commonly used in diffusers (cut off tips) and seem to work fine, according to many who make their own diffusers. Can also get craft sticks. People can try out what they have on hand & see if it works.

It won't work, the oil will clog up in these reeds.

There's a difference of opinion about that.

Have to use rattan reeds. Bamboo isn’t hollow so the oil can’t travel thru.

It did not work.. looking at other ways of doing it looks like alcohol is quite an important ingredient which you did not use
