A few things I really appreciated in this conversation; the fantasy of limitlessness, so true! And self talk to our former selves can be very helpful. The idea of the way we view a parent through the eyes of another parent is very important. I saw you speak recently Tammy, and the beautiful story you told about your dad’s passing makes me aware he is no longer here, but how healing for you both to have that recognition before he left. My father had many issues, and he left this world at 63, but I speak with him often and hope he hears in some miracle of time and space, that there is grace and sadness and also joy in what was there at one time. The beauty piece is so true! I just finished editing a presentation of art including interviews with the artists and so many spoke of beauty. Thank you both!
I was the oldest child too. I could relate to a lot of what you all were saying. Esp. the parts about perfection and thinking I could accomplish much more than what was realistic.
It blew my mind when you said Carl Jung inspired AA ; I’m currently in a 12 step program , and also reading my first Carl Jung Book and I was noticing some similarities as well ; that just pieced it all together for me.
I enjoyed the conversation until you got into politics which I totally disagree with. But most importantly Americans do not know what communism is let alone socialism. So as part of your reading please educate yourselves about that

Mistakes are part of the equation of the human condition. We have to give ourselves grace!

What a lovely conversation! Especially about being grandmothers. I am not one, but the convo was enlightening.
