Resiniferatoxin is this chemical compound found in some cactuses that has a scoville unit rating of 16 billion. It will irreversibly destroy the neurons it touches.
In case anyone was wondering: Mammals are the only ones that feel the pain effect from spicy foods. It comes from something called capsaicin that mimics a neurotransmitter that translates to pain or injury from heat or burning in the brain. Insects would only be deterred by physical heat or acidic properties strong enough to damage their bodies. Birds are also not susceptible to spice and are used by many plants such as the reaper pepper to eat and spread their seeds.
it's so interesting the chemicals plants produce to deter certain animals from eating them, but we enjoy them for that reason. like caffeine and nicotine are naturally produced insecticides
Does the stomach also have receptors for Capsaicin? If it's only the neurotransmitters only giving the illusion of heat, why do I have diarrhoea whenever I eat spicy food? 😢
@@dangerousatomizer6162 i believe that happens because there's receptors in your intestines, and the pain makes your body push it through the system faster that it usually does

Based upon historical tortures, the worst way to die is probably getting boiled alive, Rather than worms. Worms would immediately get in you ears and destroy your brain within half an hour. Being boiled alive lasts upwards of 6.
Capsaicin is the active ingredient in peppers and produces a sensation of burning in any tissue with which it comes into contact. Usually only felt by mammals, hence why the worms do not have an issue eating the pepper.
