    I would say the cons for this machine include, it might be too short for very tall users, and it doesn’t allow you to do proper squats. If I were doing this all over again, I would investigate more expensive option that gave me the ability to do Smith machine type work as well.

    • @halvorse
      @halvorse  Год назад +2

      That's how pulley systems work. There is a weight ratio based on the pulleys used. In this case the ratio is 1/2. So it is 165lbs, but due to the pulleys the max resistance is equivalent to 82.5lbs. However, I assure you that it is still ample resistance and only on very few exercises will you max out. If you've ever been to a commercial gym and used any cable equipment it's the same concept. Take a lat pulldown machine for example, the weight stack might say 180 but based on the pulley weight ratio it could really only be 90lbs or even only 60lbs.

While a functional trainer will give you a multitude of exercise options, without a power rack there really isn't a safe way to practice barbell bench press and barbell squats. Of course you can do substitute exercises with the functional trainer, but if you ever wanted to use free weights, I'd highly reccommend doing the two mentioned exercises in a rack with properly set safeties. You also won't be able to work your smaller stabilizer muscles since the bar is fixed in place. Between a rack and a half rack though, I'd opt for a full rack so you can add more attachments as you grow your home gym. You can see on my rack for example I have the lat pull/low row attachment and also a Y dip bar attachment.
