I decided to spend a few $$$ giving the V-strom 650 a mini make-over of new 50./50 Mitas E-07 tyres - perfect for touring and gravel/light offroad; Delkevic 350mm carbon 3/4 exhaust system - cheap and sounds pretty awesome; Suzuki crash bars - both incase I drop it (taking it offroad) but also for more angles with the Insta 360 camera haha
I also bought a Suzuki bashplate too - but as the Delkevic is wider than the standard pipe it will need an extra 15mm to fit, so not sure whether to bother or sell it and scope out a diffferent skid plate!?!
Overall, very happy with the purchases and feel like it's gonna see some great touring adventures down the track.

Thanks mate, it is a nice bike and trying a few simple upgrades to build my confidence on it more. I think I need to plan a trip that is a few days and get used to it properly.
@@AdvHQ they can handle pretty much anything. We take our first gens on all different types of terrain and they haven't let us down yet.

Nice mate. If you plan on keeping/getting a centre stand and a bashplate, maybe look into which ones are compatible. My bashplate is still sitting there in limbo hehe

Stock tyres were not great anakee were good on road and dirt road 6 are great on the road
I am getting a Delkevic exhaust for my 2012 next week. I can hardly wait! For 11 years it has sounded like a sewing machine.

This was my wife's. She bought it new. We sold it on New Years Day this year and I bought it back 5 weeks later! I rebuilt it after she got hit by a car and it is quite unique. So is she.
I fitted a black widow exhaust which I was able to keep the centre stand and fit bash plate.
Nice. Maybe a different bash plate or exhaust height. Sold my Vstrom, so not stressed about it anymore 🤣
Interested to hear your longer term thoughts on the exhaust. I put a 400mm Black Widow on mine and found it a bit too loud so I put the stock back on.
I love it mate. To me it's got a nicer note than standard and not too loud - can still hear my music in coms just fine.

From memory they're called Oxford... were about $50 AUD for the pair.

Good work , shame the bash plate didn’t go on, the exhaust sounds fantastic and is now on my list for my 650.

Hard to go past the exhaust for the price but a pain it stuffed up the bashplate - I'll sort it out one day 🙂. The mirrors are cheap as too, $22ea - help a bit with shoulder buffeting. www.easyr.com.au/oxford-trapezium-right-mirror

Exhaust was Delkevic website, tyres, crash bar and skid plate (uninstalled and wouldn't accept refund) was Sunstate Motorcycles dealership. Good luck and enjoy the bike mate - I've moved on to a cruiser now (and dirt bikes).

How are those tyres on the road? Do you find them good around the bends? How do they wear?
G'day, to be honest mate, the Vstrom has hardly been ridden since that vid. I've been spending most days off riding the dirt bikes. The tires felt good. Although there was one small stint where I got some vibration, lasted a few minutes then went away (happened twice at separate times, both between 90-100km/h). Might have been wind, road condition, speed, tyres, related - not sure. As said, it came and then it went. I don't ride it enough to worry about wear. Cheers
I’ve got the same bike and was riding with a guy who also has the same bike and he’s got the Motoz Tractionators on the back and dual venture on the front and is very happy with them on an off road. You’ll see his bike in the video. did you have to do any mapping for exhaust or any engine lights come on with it?
No, just hooked it up and it ran smoothly.
Did u have to run a tune with the exhaust? Bike looks great!
I didn't change anything and it ran fine. I've sold the Vstrom since the vid though.

Oxford mirrors - pretty cheap. Worked well. Sold the Vstrom last week - so nah, no more mods haha 😂
Do you know if a center stand will work with this exhaust?
I took it off before I installed the exhaust. I didn't even try and see what it would be like together. Sold the Vstrom last week. The exhaust does sit lower than standard though.

They were a pretty inexpensive set of Oxford mirrors... sold Vstrom a while ago.
Hi, I know you have sold the bike now but do you recall the specific E-07 tyres you used? I just placed put the deposit on a 2022 one and want to do similar to what you have done.
sorry mate, I can't remember the specific size/ratio of the tyres... I took the shop's recommendation from memory. Good luck with it, the tyres felt great - way better than the stock ones. I just didn't have the confidence to push that bike around compared to my enduro bikes! An ability thing rather than a bike thing! haha
