In case no one has mentioned it in the comments before, the high vis interior of the bag is useful to contrast against all the stuff in the bag so that you are not just looking into a dark hole.
been through all of the videos. The best reviews on You Tube. concise, informative but without lots of shouting which so many channels seem to do now!! Many thanks, keep them coming!!
I purchased the Icon Urban last year for my 10 week Adv trip based on your review. I can say it was really great. I especially appreciated the comfort of the backpack mode when getting off the bike and doing an 8-10 mile hike. Keep up the great work. The magnets worked fine on my Super Tenere. One modification I made to the bag was to have a local upholstery shop add a strap to the top to go around my handle bar mount, which worked fine.

FYI, the 18L Cortech bag is expandable with a zipper like a lot of roller board luggage is. When unexpanded it is the same size as the 12L, which I think is plenty of room for typical commuting gear and other necessities.

While some people hate them, I’m a big fan of tank bags. I have three I’ve owned for years, and which I use regularly: a small and very low profile Ogio, a smallish Icon, and a larger/expandable FirstGear Silverstone. All three are magnetic, so a bike with a steel tank was a factor in my purchase decision when I bought a new motorcycle last fall.
Hey Man U make some really great videos!!! Love how u get straight to the point no long drawn out intro! Can u please make some review videos on some cruiser items?
I love the givi tank bags. Plenty of size option and the one click tang flange is perfect. No straps just click the bag on. Want to fuel up, click it off again.
The GIVI EA106 B is the coolest tank bag I've ever had and I think should definitely be in the top 5 of the compact small bags. 42 bucks and absolutely perfect on my R1
OK, time for a new tank bag video!! Sure Wish icon was making newer versions of the urban. (needs an a "not urban" version that uses straps and isn't so wide)
Thanks for the reviews. I checked out a couple of those bags . All were good. I ended up buying the 12 liter Cortech 2.0 for my wife and the 18 liter for myself. I ride a 2003 Honda Valkyrie and a Honda Blackbird . My wife rides a Hayabusa.. We made good choices. Thanks for your review.
On my 07 dl1000 I had a bags connection tank bag with an SW Motech powered tank ring. It was awesome. Super easy to get at the fuel cap and no straps to rub paint. Plus with the power I could charg my phone inside the bag.
I have been riding for about 3 years with the Givi GRT Series tank bag, the GRT 715 (not the new one, but the previous model). The base mount is strap-held, with a nice hole in it for fuel tank access, so i only have to release a couple of snap buckles to refuel. It has 2 side non-waterproof pockets (although never had a single droplet of rain water in them), and a large main pocket with a compartment on the lid wich is transparent from the outside - great for a roadmap (i don't know how you do it in Canada, but i still can read a map - and actually prefer one on my trips, just to randomly choose roads i haven't rode before). The best thing about this bag is it's waterproofness - i usually carry my camera in it, and never had a leak, even after riding for more than 5 hours in a downpour at slow speeds (escorting a group of cyclists).
Hey Ryan- this is Shelby from ERA FOR A MOMENT (i use the band account-hence the odd username)...but wanted to just say your channel is great. Just started getting into riding and have been watching all your vids. Great info for so many aspects! As much as i like revzilla as well - the guys on there, esp Anthony i think - TOO MUCH. Dial it down a little man...too showy - so it seems disingenuous. You are adorable, great delivery, natural, honest in your reviews and a great, dry humor in it as well. Thanks for the info - i will continue to watch!
The one missing is the Bagster tank cover/bag combination. They are pricey but you get a contoured make/model and colour matched tank cover with universal Bagster tank cover mounts which means that if you own multiple bikes the tank bag can fit on any bike. Also, with D-rings up front, all you have to do is unbuckle the rear mounting points (a simple push of a button) and the bag flips forward for refueling. This way if you forget to recoup, the bag is still attached by the D-rings. I have used Bagster for years and never scratched a tank nor lost anything.
Funny to look back at this 4 years down the line and hearing Ryan say he’s no handyman as a recommendation... having seen him rebuild complete motorcycles from scratch and bolts I’m a bit doubtful..
Very professional review. A bit more light needed, but I enjoyed it. The GL is too expensive. I wish Cortech bags were widely available in Europe. 20L tank bags get in the way.
I've got a Givi EA106B. It's truly tiny - officially six litres, but I'll be buggered if I can find half of those - but if it's just me and the holy trinity of phone, wallet and keys, that's enough. Slap the magnets on, key in ignition, go. Plus I can tuck behind my VTR1000F's windscreen without interacting with the bag at all, so the small size is an advantage in this respect.
I only use my tank bag for some snacks and water bottle. I found the clear window on top is no good in the summer as my phone was exposed to the sun and heat causing it to overheat and shutdown. Just a personal opinion but they are great for those long rides.
Call me a dork, but it is worth mentioning that the Nelson Rigg uses hooks vs. the traditional buckle snap we are all used to. It was something I wasn't sure of when it comes to the repetitive task of petro fill-ups.
The Diablo 4L isn't a bad choice; I've just never been a fan of GL's mounting system. Looping the straps (versus the buckles included with the Enduristan bags) makes having a fixed point to tighten from a bit trickier, and the harness is more obtrusive when the bag isn't mounted. As with all GL bags, they are not natively waterproof and rely on an inner dry bag, which is not required with any of the Enduristan bags. x2 Eunduristan
I have that Cortech 2.0 bag and I love it! I decided to use it without the pad because it got in the way and my gas tank is plastic so it's probably not going to get scratched. If it does scratch, the tank bag will hide it.
I think we need an updated video on this. Cover some of the tank bags that have a tank attachment instead of straps and nowadays there are waterproof ones. For me the worse in a tank bag is not being waterproof and I have to slam that cover on top... What I ended up doing in 2018 was to have a plastic bag inside mine to avoid items such as power banks to get water on, it worked, but I would rather not have to do it, although paying £200 for another tank bag is not an option, although you can use Fabsil product (it works on a lot of items if you looking for a do it all waterproofing product)
I have the smaller icon bag and I love it for holding garage clicker, gloves, eye glasses and Chapstick and other little things...its big enough/ small enough for everyday riding but the bigger bag would be great for long distance riding...thanks for the reviews
Not sure if you can get them in Canada but you should check out Enduristan tank banks. They are fully waterproof! I use the Enduristan 4H on my R1200 GSA.
Hey Ryan, I know this is an older video, and I'm sure you've got a GANG of other content you are busy with, however.... Wondering where exactly you mounted the "bottom" strap on the Super 2.0 to that Vstrom and how much play there was after mounting. Having a hell of a time getting it right. I could just be an idiot...im probably an idiot. Thanks dude, cheers
Ryan Ryan Ryan.. not even one trully waterproof offering? 😉 I live in the wetest land of them all my frined (UK) and need something trully waterproof. What would recommend? (Bike type: small, nimble dual sport). Moochos gracias 🍻
Ryan, check some tank bags from Indian brands, they are way more easy to use including easy access to fuel cap and padded backpack straps, 1680d material, hi viz rain covers, great shape retention and much more. Also, in some of them, you don't have to remove the base to access backpack straps.
BAGSTER. They're from Europe, they're expensive but the cover is color matched to your make and model and the cover has universal mounts for their tank bags.
I have the Cortech 2.0 low profile bag that expands from 5 liters to 10 liters and I think it's a great bag. The one gripe I have is the plastic map holder on the top. It's absolutely useless. That is such an 80's design when we actually used maps but Cortech really dropped the ball on this map cover. Firstly it's way to small to insert a road map unless you fold it about 5 times which it would to thick to insert. I mean what were they thinking with all the tech gadgets out there they couldn't design something like the Nelsen Rigg has a removable GPS/Cell Phone and spare pocket holder? Nelson Rigg CL-2015 Journey Sport Motorcycle Tank Bag
Surprised to see rust under the tank cap. I have watched a few of your videos and until this one I was thinking that bike is a BMW GS. Suzuki did do an great job of imitating the GS look!
Hey Ryan, CW from Deep Cove BC. Hey have you ever looked into Enduristan tankbags like the Sandstorm 3S? There stuff is a bit expensive, no more than GL but build quality seems to be really good and the part I like is they are waterproof so no cover is required. Just sayin man!
I would normally agree with the hi-vis color on the inside but I have a Kreiga US-20 drybag with the white waterproof bag, then I bought an SW-Motech Legend bag and even during the day with a flashlight is still hard to see inside it
Have you ever tried Bagster? I have run them on my last 6 mikes for 2 reasons. One the tank cover matches my particular model and colour and it has never scratched the tank. Second the tank bag snaps on the cover and flips up for fueling (but stays attached so you can never loose it).
One more question Ryan, I agree with you the GL diablo is a really good choice for riders that need to stand up on the pegs. My only concern is the amount of movement or side to side play due to the zipper. Did you have a chance to ride with it on or test how it plays out in riding? I've narrowed down my list to the Diablo or the Endurostan Sandstorm 4H.
Hey! Yeah, it's not a huge deal while riding. The bag wobbles a bit, especially when it's empty, but I never noticed unless I was looking right at it. The movement was never enough for me to feel it, and certainly not enough to dislodge the harness. That Endurostan looks great too... never used one though. I should also mention that the Diablo Pro now comes with an internal waterproof bladder (it didn't when I made this video). ~RyanF9
I'm getting old ... I was told to put a tank bag on my 99 GSXR 750 and then I'll have something to lean on to take the weight off of my wrists. ...I can't find one and I do not want magnets. I heard that once you drop your tank bag once in the dirt, it will pick up enough metal shit to scratch the hell out of any tank paint job.
I ride honda st1300. I want space. Waterproof. Backpack option. And I’d like some type of security so that if I leave the tank bag on the bike when parked someone can’t open or steal it. Is this possible?
Hey. I am looking for a tank bag that will hold my laptop, GPSr and everything else for 2017 V Strom. I would need to have water proof cover, outsde pockets for phone, sunglasses, backpackable, and strap onto bike, not interested in magnets. Any Suggestions?
How can you do a review of any bike luggage without any mention of Oxford kit? Mr current Oxford tank bag is coming up to 15 years old and still as good as new.
He said in an earlier reply that he didn't like the Givi because it looks weird on the bike, because it doesn't sit flush. The same thing could be said about the SW-Motech Evo Quick-Lock series. It's his personal preference but I'm looking at the SW-Motech Evo Engage.
I see, thanks. I'm looking at Engage and Sport too.. it'll be for touring so having a large capacity would help. but being FZ-07 rider, having too tall of a bag obscures my vision of the instrumentation.

i dont recommend magnetic straps, imagine getting dirt or something in there and scratching your fuel tank.. no thanks, doesnt feel worth the risk
Had that with my YBR Custom. Heartbreaking to lift up the bag and see the cavernous gouges in the fuel tank.
Straps and harnesses still have that problem. A strap left a mighty scuff on the edge of my tank after some trails.

I see, thanks. I'm looking at Engage and Sport too.. it'll be for touring so having a large capacity would help. but being FZ-07 rider, having too tall of a bag obscures my vision of the instrumentation.
7L is way too tiny for my needs.
How would the cortech fit on a small dual sport bike? Yamaha xt250?
What are your thoughts on the Joe Rocket Manta XL ?
