I can't recommend Kriega enough. As for backpacks, I use a Max 28 on and off the bike. I love how it takes a big laptop in the waterproof compartment while also taking a size M modular (!) helmet (expanded), gloves and knee protectors for worry-free time off the bike. Otherwise I use US20 and US40 tail bags and they never leaked. Top quality stuff.
I have to give my vote to kriega. I had the zip toggle break on my 2018 r35 backpack this year. I sent it back thinking they would replace the zip under warranty. 1 week later they gave me a brand new bag. I don't know of any other company which would do that
Patagonia has a reputation for being like that, too. On environmental grounds, though, surely they should have repaired it for you? (Fixing stuff now costs more than making stuff sadly.)
@@armadillito - The environmental grounds, don't have a ground to stand on. Even the super good electric cars, that was going to save the globe; on bump, small crash, and you get a new one. Can't call it a best without getting Velomacci in the mix! I've been rocking the Velomacci Speedway 28L for the last 5yrs and it's the most bombproof/waterproof overbuilt pack I've ever purchased. Definitely give them a shot next time! They're pricey, but their strap system is SO comfortable, and whether the pack is empty or loaded down with 40lbs of tools, it loads and handles perfectly. The warranty is ultra strong too. I'd buy again in a heartbeat. 5yrs later and it looks exactly like the day I bought it and I ride with it every day.
Your sense of humor is getting better and better. Love your videos. Well researched and documented. Funny and entertaining. Extremely well filmed and mixed. Top notch! 👍🏻
My 50$ canvas bag with 2 side pockets large enough for a 1L water bottle each, 2 front pockets large enough for snacks, large main compartment large enough for a 17" laptop, laptop sleve, 3-4 notebooks. Added a chest strap and some self oil/waterproofing and has lasted me over 2 years and 1000s of kms! 👌
As someone that loves having a backpack around at all times, I have to recommend Osprey and even though I despise the crowd that 5.11 attracts, they also do make some awesome packs. Have been using both daily for work, hiking, camping, mtb and riding for 7 years now, same exact ones.
Ditto that 5.11 seems to attract all the jeep tacticool chads, but it's genuinely good stuff. A rush 24hr usually ends up being my tail bag bungeed on. My last one kept up for nearly a decade of use.
@@ElectronNinja Nobody cares about the brand except you. All the people worried that their brand of bag attracts "tacticool mall ninjas" are way overly concerned about image and ego. I just watched a 7 minute product placement/advertisement... and enjoyed all of it. I don't even need a new pack. Great stuff Ryan et al! Engaging and amusing, as usual!
I've been rocking the same Kreiga R20 since 2016. It taught me the importance of buying quality things and not trying to save money with cheap junk. Before I bought that, I had to buy a new backpack every year.
Bought my Kriega R20 based on the recommendation from an older Fortnine video and it's been going strong for years. Rain or shine and looks pretty much brand new still.
Owned the Kriega Trail 18 and sold it fairly quickly. It's comfortable and waterproof but 18 litres is... optimistic as they made loading it with stuff a nightmare Currently own the newer Klim NakPak (it did come with a Klim hydration pack in the UK). Not waterproof but as comfortable as the Kriega, if not more so, and simple to load... and I think about 60% the price of the Kriega
Ryan is the saviour of the modern era! No matter what the subject matter the video will be awesome! His humour is matched only by the actual depth of real world research and information. A true masterpiece 👊😎
kriega for the win. My R20 lasted me many many years. Their quality is top notch. The high sitting sternum buckle was their design originally too (patent is up now hence everyone using it). Absolutely the best and well worth the money if you are going to be wearing it regularly.
Same here my r20 has been gone through daily abuse because i use it like a normal backpack only now its starting to have holes because sometimes i force stuff thats to big to fit, but i could still use it for couple of years.
And again I find myself recommending alpine ski/snowboard bags once more. Pure, durable, built for utility and style, available in many fashion variants and brands. All within 100 bucks or less. Get pretty much all of these features, but from brands that actually compete with each other thus driving prices down. Personal favorite would be Dakine. Proper equipment at proper price. First step to buying a proper motorcycle backpack, is to filter out all of the bags that say "for motorcycling" on them.
My $30 hiking bag works great. Has a spot for a camel pack, it's water proof with as many zip lock bags I can fit in it. And it's meant for walking so it's definitely comfortable while riding. To bad im not a baller tho, because I'd buy the most expensive one here just cause.
The Kriega trail 18 is awesome. I attached it with 2 front trail pockets and made it the most convenient bag ever. The only gripe I have with it is the waist buckle. I hate waist buckles. They're useless and they rub against the tank. I tuck them away behind me. But that leaves the extra tail hanging out wagging like a happy pup.
These videos are needlessly well done. I mean that in the best way possible, like a video about backpacks doesn't need to be this good but God I love it
Only been recommended this channel today, but already love it. I like the dry comedy but genuinely useful info, and seems unbiased....hope it stays that way - a rare thing these days online.
I don't really want or need a backpack, but this video was from FortNine so of course I watched it. Always entertaining, brutally honest (just the way we like it), and as usual filled with plenty of double entendre. Well done, bravo, hats off, applause. Hmmm, maybe I do need a backpack.
Some of my kriega stuff is over 15 years old now,one 15ltr backpack has been all over Europe several times,it may be little more expensive, but you won't wear it out. All the clips are utx, won't be breaking them to easily. Ykk zips aren't a worry either. Great review Ryan.
Klim tec pack is actually perfect.. need to stop at the grocery store but don't feel like going home first to switch out to the car? You can squeeze whatever you can't get into your saddles/top box into your pack. I have been doing grocery runs with a 30L backpack on a bicycle so cutting it down to a roughly 20L bag and a top-box is about the same. I mostly live alone so I don't really do large shops as it is... + the chest protection + the steel cable to strap you helmet/pack to the bike... throw in a few tiny locks for any major pouches and you have a secure little pack... I am absolutely buying one.
I don't like wearing a backpack while riding. I am in no way in the market for another backpack for any use. And yet here I am, watching this video because F9 make great content and there's always something to learn.
Mosko Moto’s Wildcat is also a good one but they sell directly so I’m guessing that might be the reason they were not included. I used a Dakine MTB bag for a long time and just got the Wildcat. It’s top notch but expensive
Ryan, you out did yourself on this one. So many great lines that I had to watch it again to get all the info on the packs because the first run through I was laughing too much.
I have a waterproof messenger bag for 20 bucks. I find it better than any of theses option for multiples reasons : - You don't want any small compartment, you will prefer a big compartment that offer flexibility. - You don't want any rigidity thing that take more place in the actual bag that compartment. - You don't fill entirely a bag, you don't want it to take a lot of space. You want it slim, to go watch a movie or at a restaurant etc. The only thing I miss are some thin strap with holder to strap it to the seat. That's all.
Great video! Can you do an updated "best motorcycle earbuds, headphones and speakers" next? The last one seems to be for 2017 and a lot has changed since then.
I have only one advice! Just buy neon green Or neon orange for better visibility. I am a car driver. Most issues I find with bikers and cyclist is visibility!
@@SoloPilot6 you would still need some amount of skill, and special tools. Unlikely somebody walking by would have a lock picking set. The little snips Ryan has in the video should be able to cut through that braided cable in about 30 seconds (you just cut a few strands at a time).
@@Maattttheww Uh . . .you don't have a lock picking set? Master padlocks just need a comb pick, and are open in about three seconds. These cost about two bucks (or make one in 5 minutes)and go nicely on a keyring.
@@SoloPilot6 I don’t, I just have a pair of snips 😉. JK. Anyways, I think we both missed the point here. It’s a bag, you can also cut the cable off with some scissors. At the end of the day this whole solution provides basically zero security no matter what lock or cable you put on it.
I still swear by the Ogio Dakar bag F9 recommended years ago. Small and light backpack with a foil-lined pocket for the included 3L water pack. From personal experience, it kept a full bag of ice water cold in the Florida summer sun for a full 2 hours until it ran dry. Having cold water on tap *while riding* makes a world of difference for your stamina in the heat.
i bought a $35 dollar bag off Amazon and i love it...i ride everywhere with it... last ride i stopped at my favorite gas station and there was a guy with a clean n wax kiosk set up who thereby swindled me into buying like 50 pounds worth of everything you could ever possibly need to keep your bike and tires, and even gear pristine forever, and it all fit comfortably in the bag. yesterday i rode an hour outta town with it just to buy 12 peices of corn and ride back lmao...i love this bag and it was 35 bucks! looks cool, comfortable, fits well and is durable enough to haul 50 pounds of cans of $hit on a silly fast sportbike! ❤ brand is 'Basic'... black bag with a shingle reflective silver stripe down the middle.
I love videos about cool, super-functional motorcycling rucksacks. They give me informed choices for the rucksacks I’ll be buying in my next life when I won’t have my Kriega R25 (commuting for 15 years) or my Kriega trail with water pouch & tube (enduro for 8 years). Neither shows any sign of giving up anytime soon. 😆

I have never owned a bike, nor been on one on the road and I don’t plan to I’m a through and through car guy but I still like bikes yet I find myself watching this channels every video straight away, that’s how you know you’ve got a fantastic host and a great script
I don’t have a bike and no money and I still watch and be invested in your videos.. that’s how awesome your content is!!
For them to fix a zip is more costly and annoying than replacing whole unit.
@@armadillito - The environmental grounds, don't have a ground to stand on. Even the super good electric cars, that was going to save the globe; on bump, small crash, and you get a new one. They are way to expensive to fix. Change 2, 3 parts and it is more expensive then a new one.
But also with things like a backpack, it cost much more to employ more people to fix them. Then send out a new one, that get made in a assembly line in a factory. They don't even have to tools to take the backpack apart to set in the new parts.
@@armadillito repair it maybe costly and more than likely less ecological...
@@Gismo3333 weren't diesel cars the one to save the world? Anyway it gave power to politicians and bureaucrats, the ones who subsided (with everybody's money) diesel and now they tax and criminalize... because now they subsidie and give privileges to electrical companiez (I own part of one...). The states always consumerists, inefficient and inmoral
My Kriega has held great over 6 years now. I really love the harness, nothing comes close. Even has space for a back protector.
I personally use a dekine heli backpack, i can use it for both motorcycles and skiing. It has a back protection compartment too.
I have the Kriega bag and it's wonderful. The net is also great for adding carabineers to carry even more stuff.
Your sense of humor is getting better and better. Love your videos. Well researched and documented. Funny and entertaining. Extremely well filmed and mixed. Top notch! 👍🏻
'Its rigid so it goes great in the rear' 😂🤣 ryan's THE mad lad
My last one kept up for nearly a decade of use.
ospreys are super reliable.
@@avedgy yeah currently i am using a high sierra fatboy. 7-8 years down. works for me.
@@ElectronNinja Nobody cares about the brand except you. All the people worried that their brand of bag attracts "tacticool mall ninjas" are way overly concerned about image and ego. Nobody actually cares that much. Real life is not the internet. If the bag is good and is within your price range, use it.
@@martuuk8964 Exactly. I've had people mention it to me, but several of us on base have used 5.11 for years and will continue to so long as they keep making quality kit. I still have pants from them I got in high school 🤣
Happy to see another F9 video will higher production quality and better writing than a paramount film. You spoil us, really. Please don't stop.
Baught a 10€ bag from Louis in germany. Was on sale from 40€. Has some reflectives and a rigid shell. Perfect for me. No features in the world would make a > 200€ bag worth it for me.
Still a great video though.
Kriega also can hold hydration bladder and comes on other colors than just black.
It was my choice and despide of having only one kidney anymore, I dont regret of buying Kriega at all.
A kidney seems like a rather high price for a backpack.......Sorry about your kidney bro
Not a bad deal for what they offer. Also sounds like a bit of a discount from the arm and a leg pricing I last saw.
This will always be my favorite channel on YT. The only one I religiously watch even if I have zero interest in the topic being covered. This one had me in stitches. You're a great writer Ryan. Keep at it.
Have to say I love my Kriega T18. Find it the perfect size for daily use and a very comfortable bag to wear whilst riding also.
Can it fit a 15inch laptop?
@@adamd8414 Not 100% sure it will fit in the front water proof pocket but will definitely fit in the back non weather poof pocket
(Just tried with my 13inch laptop)
I just watched a 7 minute product placement/advertisement... and enjoyed all of it. I don't even need a new pack. Great stuff Ryan et al! Engaging and amusing, as usual!
Can the black, training cone, be ordered in the website?
Backordered through 2023.
That's not a training cone
....That's an F9 variomatic pulley
Don't judge. When you need an oil funnel, beggars can't be choosers.
@@byever1 So supplies are bare, and that's why they're backordered?
I've been rocking the same Kreiga R20 since 2016. It taught me the importance of buying quality things and not trying to save money with cheap junk. Before I bought that, I had to buy a new backpack every year.
kriega is just that good.
Is expensive but you will not worry or care to get another backpack for at least 10+ years.
Bought my Kriega R20 based on the recommendation from an older Fortnine video and it's been going strong for years. Rain or shine and looks pretty much brand new still.
Owned the Kriega Trail 18 and sold it fairly quickly. It's comfortable and waterproof but 18 litres is... optimistic as they made loading it with stuff a nightmare
Currently own the newer Klim NakPak (it did come with a Klim hydration pack in the UK).
Many hiking bags have metal supports that would be excruciatingly painful if you happen to go off.
@@Hawk7886 The metal supports are almost a thing of the past.
@@Hawk7886 this ones is to cheap for that lol.
But it's one of those small skinny ones. Like day hike style. It ain't got metal.
Bought my kriega R30 like a decade ago so tough it still looks new.
These videos are needlessly well done. I mean that in the best way possible, like a video about backpacks doesn't need to be this good but God I love it
You all continuously put out amazing content!
From now on I'll call Klim Milk. Thanks for the pitch Ryan!
Some of my kriega stuff is over 15 years old now,one 15ltr backpack has been all over Europe several times,it may be little more expensive, but you won't wear it out.
All the clips are utx, won't be breaking them to easily. Ykk zips aren't a worry either.
Great review Ryan.
Ryan: Kriega is too expensive
**casually frisbees a MacBook 😂
Kriega is too expensive only because it's too damn good. ;)
i his defence, that macbook had it coming
Somewhere in the RUclips-verse there’s a man whose fingers and eyes are twitching when he sees the Master Lock. Though we’d never know about the eyes.
I bought Kriega R20 some 2 years ago and Trail 9 a few months back. Absolutely love the bags. Quality is top notch.
Ryan, you are a god send for us in the motorcycle community. We love you for your work, effort and content you provide. Respect
Your scripts are under a tight 10 every time and it’s incredible
Brb buying one of these before prices rocket up
Why can’t more product reviews be more like this, great as always.
Been waiting for this from so long, can't stress how happy I was to see this notification. Respect and love from India
I don't see a single comment about 1:33 and that needed to change
Love it when Fortnine posts! Keep up the good work Ryan!
I will never unsee Klim being spelled milk backwards...
I have a waterproof messenger bag for 20 bucks. I find it better than any of theses option for multiples reasons :
- You don't want any small compartment, you will prefer a big compartment that offer flexibility.

Finally it's here. *YES*
@@recitationtohear I was looking forward to get Rick'rolld and now I am disappointed.
Helmet speakers please!!!!
dont use ear buds that passively dampen noise, in other words you should use a speaker in the helmet or on the bike
I have only one advice!
Just buy neon green
Or neon orange for better visibility.
I am a car driver.
Most issues I find with bikers and cyclist is visibility!
A Master padlock? "This is the Lockpicking Lawyer, an today we're going to take Ryan's pack, but leave him this silly lock as a memento!"
99% of thieves will still cut the cable before they even look at the lock. This whole lock setup is just meant to be a mild inconvenience
@@Maattttheww It's easier to pick a Master padlock than to cut the cable. Seriously.
As a hiker/sometimes backpacker, I wondered what differentiated motorcycle backpacks from you regular backpacking bag. This was helpful
These bags are quite a bit of overkill... Been using the Ogio No Drag series for 10 years with zero issues. I even use it when I'm not out riding.
ogio no drags are like atleast $100, the new ones are over $200 lol
Second for the Ogio's "turtle shells" I like how they also have a fair amount of reflective material on them
Here for the innuendo. Not disappointed.
I use an old canvas rucksack with a plastic bag if it rains, it cost me about £10, honestly you guys have more money than sense..
Ok
Never thought I'd learn and laugh so much in a 10m video about backpacks.
That Jebus line was gold.
How do I give 2 thumbs up...? Let me rephrase that...
I have a BMW brand backpack.
It's so well designed you simply don't feel it on your back while riding.
One of the best bike purchases I've made.
This guy is really great on anything he produces which is so refreshing! But I prefer the vast outdoor riding videos over product reviews.
i bought a $35 dollar bag off Amazon and i love it...i ride everywhere with it... last ride i stopped at my favorite gas station and there was a guy with a clean n wax kiosk set up who thereby swindled me into buying like 50 pounds worth of everything you could ever possibly need to keep your bike and tires, and even gear pristine forever, and it all fit comfortably in the bag. yesterday i rode an hour outta town with it just to buy 12 peices of corn and ride back lmao...i love this bag and it was 35 bucks! looks cool, comfortable, fits well and is durable enough to haul 50 pounds of cans of $hit on a silly fast sportbike! ❤ brand is 'Basic'... black bag with a shingle reflective silver stripe down the middle.
Always a good day when you can watch a new video with Ryan
Don't have a care for back packs I just love how you put the content together and your sarcasm!
I am a newbie to all of this and watch Ryans videos is awesome, Learning so much about gear, bikes, dos and donts, and now backpacks, awesome. By the time I have my bike and gear you would have thought I was doing this all my life, Thanks Brotha Ryan!!!!
