- Wing Chun that is effective is extremely awesome to watch. In this match, we have a Wing Chun kungfu practitioner who is extremely effective with his functional chain punching. Also, he's got good kicks. Let's watch and see what we can observe and learn. Let us know what you saw from a martial arts perspective.

I love at 2:22 I can hear you doing the chain punches in the air as you say it lmao
Yep! That’s exactly what I was doing 😇😇
Hey guys, here's some extra context as a Hong Konger. At the start of the match it said WC guy is from 趙學賢詠春拳會 which is a legit WC school from Wong Shun Leung lineage. The students there have won a lot of Sanda and Muay Thai competitions here in HK, so this isn't that surprising. Wether he used WC I dunno, but he's definitely a WC practitioner
THAt's awesome! Do they have a RUclips channel?
So, you are actually better off when you don't use WC, right?
what im seeing, is a wing chun guy who has figured out that you can use the arm movements from wing chun defense, in order to throw strikes.
Like, it still looks like the wing chun straight punch, but its done off center line, and the way he moves his shoulder blades and elbows when punching, looks like how you apply pressure when youre doing the different sau movements.
Jerry, those kicks are perfectly acceptable to any wing chunner who has a traditional kung fu base. This idea that wing chun only has the oblique kick or straight front kick needs to end!
Please tell that to some of these people in the comment section 😅
That's definitely Wing Chun!
In Wing Chun, we DO have hook(抽撞锤)and swing(横撞锤), but most practicers ingnores them.
This Wingchun guy alternated straight punches with hooks and swings in a chain punch attack, which is a quite smart way to avoid the extra defence provided by gloves
Yes. In addition to that , it is damn hard to do proper chain punches with heavy gloves. You need to adjust a little in order to get through.
Oh My God, why do we still have comments "nOt rEaL wINg cHun" guysssss Fighting should Look Like Fighting, wing chun people who spar know what they're looking at
Yeah. You see why a sizable number of people in the wing chun community irritate me?
@@FightCommentary oh yeah haha, it's funny how good wing chun people get crap from both sides 🤣
I like both, FCB! It's sometimes a nice surprise when I don't know which way it's going to go.
Great fight! I think the WC guy is throwing more hooks because he knew the muay thai guy would have a more solid defense against jabs So instead of chaining straight punches he chained hooks and it worked. And at the end of the day what makes a great fighter I believe is knowing how to adapt to your opponent with the tools that you have.
Yea this guy probably mixed his training with something else, but there's some wing chun principles in there, he is constantly blitzing in, keeping the pressure on and he completely overwhelmed the oponent during the entire match thanks to it. His use of basically only hooks was a good choice too since his oponent raised a very front heavy guard all match, which didn't protect his sides, so throwing punches down the middle would be throwing punches at his guard which makes no sense.
Wing chun guy just capitalized on the mistake over and over to beat him up. It's weird that the judges declared it a draw. It was very clearly a heavily one sided match.
Been watching your commentary since back in the Xu Xiaodong days when he exposed and challenged other chinese martial art styles. Good channel. Keep it up!! 👍👊💪
Jerry have you not ever had a chance to see WSL Wing Chun student Jai Harman in action? He whooped a Thai boxer in sparring, and easily held his own sparring in multiple sport formats, including boxing only, and MMA rules.
I’ll check that out!
WSL Ving Tsun is good!
Haha his is more like MMA with minimal WC to survive. You guys are delusional.
@@smartresearchwingchun494 He's trained Wing Chun and Shuaijiao for years now.
@@AztecUnshaven the problem is that his WC isn't working, that's why he and mainstream Wing Chun guys are relying on other techniques.
Looks more like wingchun/ choy li fut. Good fighter. How old is the footage?
I know this not related to video. I had went and watched choy li fut training, what i see is basic warm up and from I see is basically Chinese Muay thai. I would like said I am not part of the group or a student.
Well he's got the continuous pressuring concept right and it really is more about the concept
i couldnt figure out which one was doing wing chun. LOL for real. It just normal punches
Fight Commentary Breakdowns, Subscribed because your videos are so much fun!
I like to watch both for sure.
Interesting to see him looping punches but I dont see why a WC practitioner couldnt I think its that some are stuck on the idea that you have to go straight down the middle but the motion of a pak sao is almost like a hook just smaller loop. Also you probably wouldnt see a Jab in a traditional sense as there isnt a lead hand/reard hand n the stance both hands should operate as if jabbin with a little more force
yup, this is just what I said in my comment. he is taking the principles of the defensive techniques, and using them offensively.
@@ssths Yeah I saw and I am glad we noticed the same thing. I am not sure if hes purely using WC but it stance seems to me like he is. His strikes seem a little modified. He might not be using that much trapping techniques but thats generally hard to pull off. I do see some sticking in that if he strikes there is a slight moment where he rests his hand like striking his opponents head and establishing a uncommited clinch.
@@ssths I watched it slow mo just to see if i could find anything he definitely uses the pak sao a lot to bridge. He does however backup to load up some shots rather then the forward prressure of traditional wc I would say modified wc/mt hybrid.
I thought it was kickboxing match
the wingchun one is wasting too much energy doing chain punches while you can do less with more force and picking the places to hit maybe you can do chain punches like this guys do but in a 12 round fight you r done with energy
💯
"Wing chun" definitely won that, but I dont think he's really a wing chun guy
🤔?
Cross training?
What will it take for people to admit it...
Yeah wing chun guy is boxing lol
@@redrenegade7724when they actually use wing chun
Like both.
Seeing his cardio and ability to vary his strikes, I believe he has some kickboxing skills alongside his wing chun. There's nothing wrong with that and it should be the foundation of any fighter.
both! yes!
Great
those kicks are crescenty sort of like mine, bad hip mobility but make the most of it.
So chain punches are more of a concept than an actual technique. The idea is to main forward movement and pressure plus to constantly replace after striking
Wing Chun guy realized if you're going to play, you have to play with the right moves. Trying to use Wing Chun with Boxing gloves is like trying to play Hockey with a Golf Club. You can kind of make it work, but it looks terrible.
The Muay fighter often forgets to eat breakfast, so someone brings a sandwich to the ring for him😅
> When Wing Chun Knows What Its Doing
Because 99.999% of Wing Chun people have zero clue.
Woo🎉 Great
Wing Chun modified to work in the ring. What's wrong with that? Good video 👍
It's funny how they easily forgot even traditional karate is modified to work in the ring.
Chain punching was created in a chinese prison centurys ago
A prince
Was in shackles
Hands and feet
He started to punch and kick
..chain punching is in all styles of combat
Shotokan does it aa does boxing
Chain punching made popular by bruce lee
He uses the close range wing chun version
Sticking hands is older than
wing chun
Its what you do
In crane styles and similar styles
Its just sensitivity training
Wing chun guy is using modern sanda
Sanda is good bcause it gets you using your fundemental body mechanics
Wing chun is a very complex style to learj even at novice level
Chain punching
If im correct
..was created
In a chinese prison
Centuries ago
A
Prince got locked up
Hands feet in chains
So he started punching and kicking
In china they still do this type of training
Either with hand wraps or chains
There is a style called manacled forms
Where u do forms in hand cuffs etc
But chain punching isnt just circuler ..
Thats the wing chun version .
U do it in boxing
Karate
Tkd
But made famous by bruce lee in enter the dragon
BOTH
Good calls ….
both
bro this is not wingchun or muaythai whatsoever,
all i see is a black shirt guy walks on on the shirtless guy with telegraph combos.
combo 1. left right
combo 2. left right left
combo 3. left right left right
combo 4. left right left right left
combo 5. left right left right left right
and add some kicks at the end of chains ocasionally.
Wing Chun has 8 kicks.
There is 2 types of Wing Chun.
I only like it really bad or really good.
Honestly, that didn't even look like Wing Chun at all. When have we ever seen Wing Chun guys constantly throwing hooks?
I like competent wing Chun, tkd, Kung Fu, etc working videos
at 2:53 you see the wing chun guy trap/knock down the muay thai guys arm and then punch.
in my view, the wing chun circular chain punching, whatever x amount of those should be considered as a single punch, not a combo.
Like Head jab, body jab, stepping cross to switch into southpaw, then 5 chain punches, rear hand left hook to the body, then to the head.
it should be one move.
people tend to chain punch over and over again, and act like each of those punches counts the same as one actual punch like a jab or cross.
i see the chain punch like a blitz thats used to get hands in the opponents face and obscure their vision, stress them out for a split second, and give you a moment to position for something more effective. its not meant to be a knockout blow or fight ender.
same as the one inch punch. thats not some uber powerful killing blow. its a hard punch relative to the space it requires, but its really just to create space to set up something else.
if youre clinched in an over under, youd throw a 1 inch punch to the ribs to create a gap of space big enough to throw a hook right after, or to make space to snake an arm in and break contact to throw a straight as the opponent moves back.
theyre not main moves, but people treat them that way. this guy seems to know better.
his kicks, look like theyre just wing chun kicks done higher up. thats why they look a bit funky.
i think its the wing tsun branch that tends to have higher kicks, but i could be wrong. I know the wing tsun teacher in one of the ip man movies, did more above waist level kicks. they emphasized it a bit in the movie choreography. (not that we should be taking our knowledge of martial arts from action flics lol)
Let's see more competent stuff. We know there's already a lot of bullshido out there.
Just uploaded another competent one!
I love both fails and wins of TMA
WC guy certainly has a higher skill level than this MT opponent. WC guy might have other training but it probably isn’t Muay Thai.
Kung Fu is evolving
Lol dude, this footage is over 15 years old.
@@AztecUnshaven hahahah I thought it recently.
No Elbows, No Thai Clinch seems a Average Kickboxing Match lol they never let Muay Thai use all of their tools even K1 banned Thai Clinch after Masato Japan Hero almost die with a Thai Clinch.
Wing chun guy not doing wing chun. So, message is: "Don't do wing chun." ?
what will it take for you people to admit it...
@@redrenegade7724 you again, spamming away
Huh??? What Wing Chun???
what will it take for you people to admit it...
@@redrenegade7724 Having your attitude won't help anybody 'admit' anything. What will it take for you to admit that there was virtually zero identifiable Wing Chun there? At about 2:15 his string of punches were _close_ to Wing Chun punching.
And for context, I'm not a Wing Chun hater, though 95% of what I've seen is wishy-washy crap practised in an unrealistic way. That perspective comes from having trained Wing Chun, so you can't pull the 'you people' card on me. I think it has some fantastic things to offer, but only when trained properly (to be part of the good 5%), and applied with the right attitude and approach. Once you bridge in, it's all forward-forward-forward, controlling, trapping, maintaining contact, and striking as you go forward. Any time spent in the middle ground without forward pressure and control is time spent at a disadvantage to just about all stand-up fighting.
But, rather than just *asserting* that it's Wing Chun, why not provide evidence? Name a single identifiable Wing Chun technique he used. From what I saw, Jeff Chan uses more Wing Chun than this guy.
@@redrenegade7724not this 😂
Wing Chung my bottom.
Have you ever tried wing chun Jerry?
Yep
@@FightCommentary Do
You think you can show us some practical moves
Maybe, I’ll see what I can do. Keep you posted!
"Wing chun" guy is basically throwing hooks and circular kicks, two things you never see in any wingchun class.
I see them all the time in my wing chun class...don't know where your experience comes from
@@redrenegade7724show us a video then
@@wissawissa83 LOL Wing Chun hook punch is literally in the forms and you see it all the time even in solo drill and show-off demonstrations. Quite mind-blowing to think that there are people ignorant enough to actually believe Wing Chun, which is known for being a close range martial arts, has no hook punch.

Very cool! Now I know what the hook is called in Wing Chun. 横抽拳。Awesome term I learned. Really appreciate the links!
Yesss but there is no Wing Chun there that is problem.
Im not surprised that kung fu wins. Its just sad that most of the time the kung fu guy who goes in to fight is just poo. But kung fu is formidable arts just unfortunately these days they been watered down or the real kung fu guys not in to sport fame and treasure their arts. Mma and bjj their ego is so big u can see it from space.
Calling this wing chun is like putting a dress on a man and calling him female.
