Hey there! Great question. Traditional stereo mixes typically go through a stereo mastering process. So there’s a mix engineer and mastering engineer involved in a 2-stage process before the song is delivered for distribution. With Dolby Atmos, the ADM (Atmos Dolby Master (file) contains all the metadata info such as balance, object, and panning - and the mix gets reproduced on playback. One way to say it is that the playback system “mixes” the ADM into audible audio based on the speaker configuration hooked up. This is important to note because an ADM master can play back in Spatial Audio/Binaural (on headphones), in surround formats (7.1, 5.1), and in stereo (2.0). In essence, once Mix gets replicated on all these other formats. So, when you create an Atmos master you can easily export a stereo “fold-down” and publish it along with the ADM. Hope this answers your question.
As Alex has shown, Dolby Atmos is the future and opens up unimaginable possibilities of musical creation. It’s an amazing auditory upgrade of the song. Thanks Alex for another great presentation!
When using Penteo can you please explain why someone would leave the LFE off for music? Can you also explain if you have it turned off and someone is listening in a Dolby Atmos room if lower frequencies will still pass through the listeners subwoofer if you have the LFE turned off in Penteo? Thanks! P.S. This might be a great idea for a RUclips video. There’s lots of confusion surrounding LFE when doing Atmos mixes for music. There’s very little concrete Information out there. A video explaining how the LFE will translate in a music mix for consumers listening on a system that actually has all these channels in their home would be awesome!

It depends on what DAW you are using. But yes, you need to route the channels to the renderer to monitor in Atmos/binaural and create an ADM master file.
Hello sir I really appreciate your knowledge. I was just curious can you render your file. In 7.1 Just curious if I export my two track stereo file will it Dolby Atmos format so I can upload it to DistroKid
Hello. The Dolby Atmos Renderer can export from the ADM (Atmos Dolby Master) to the following formats: 7.1, 5.1, 2.0 (stereo), and Binaural. I would not advise to publish an Atmos mix done on headphones without first checking on speakers for the risk of bad mix translation. saludos de LIma , peru, recien sigo tus videos sobre dolby atmos y son bueno, que equipo basico de bajo costo recomiendas para armar un studio en Peru, aca no hay muchos equipos de marca como en EEUU, que interface , monitores y algun equipo como el que tienes para manipular el paneo? muchas gracias y bendiciones. hno. If avoid that. If you have mixed stems, you want to be sending them to objects. This is explained in this video: ruclips.net/video/aNANYNLd9jU/видео.html
Just a quick question .. once u export the dolby atmos file how you can listen to it ? I know there is a way to convert it with amazon services. is there any other way ?
Hola, bienvenido a mi canal! Excelente pregunta.

Hi Alex, with this method how do you get objects and beds? Since Apple requires you have objects and beds in the adm file.
Sounds great 👍🏾
Thanks 💯
thanks for the video! what are your thoughts on Halo upmix from nugen audio
It’s great. I use it all the time. Check out this review: www.alexpromix.com/blog/dolby-atmos-plugins-from-nugen-audio
Hi Alex, while using the Penteo pluggin, do I need to install Dolby Atmos Renderer on my PC before I can export in Dolby Atmos format?
It depends on what DAW you are using. But yes, you need to route the channels to the renderer to monitor in Atmos/binaural and create an ADM master file.
How do I route an upmix plugin? I'm using nugen halo upmix on cubase and I can't just seem to get it right

So even with mixed stems , shouldn’t I be able to send all to a bud and put the penteo plug-in on that bus and walla ?

Hi. You can playback an ADM BWF file by importing it to a DAW or by using the Dolby Atmos Renderer.

Be warned that according to Apple Music's guidelines or music distributor that supports Atmos submission that upmixing from stereo mix is not allowed.
This is true, I have been told that Apple and UMG are pulling down mixes created from a single stereo source.

it is Penteo better than Nugen Audio Halo?
they are kind of the same, i also found another plugin but this time mush like Dolby atoms render it from a company called Fiedler audio

why should I like the immersion experience? the simplicity of stereo is much more enjoyable, Dolby Atmos is like listening inside a box, I pass...
I wish Apple Music had more music in Dolby atmos
There’s more than 1,000 songs published in Atmos. Have you checked out the spatial audio playlists?
