Thanks Mike - more great content mate! We've all been waiting for this update, like you said - if for nothing else but to keep our fave DAW competitive 🤘 🙂 Not a FB guy but will definitely join the new group, should be a great space to learn in - your S1 tutorials are top notch Mike, thanks so much for all of your efforts!
This was great after stumbling around various videos trying to work out automation within S1's Dolby Atmos .Mike serves up the answer here and much more ...perfect !
Great video Mike! Just installed 6.5, not for Atmos, but for some bugs. But you're really fast, showing the major updates like ATMOS in an easy well explained video. I don't use ATMOS but set it up on my 64S for fun and it works. Thanks mate!
Awesome ! May be simple like you said ... I have antelope discrete too and your tutorial is more clear for me! It is a Master class!!! Many thanks Mike!
Great video! You are the first one I found showing automation in SO 6.5. Thanks a lot!
What an awesome, clear as a bell, demo! Thank you
Amazing this is really helpful!
Super tutorial Mike this looks relatively easy to use , being on a Jazz tip right now I think it might be great to experiment with an ATMOS mix on some of the tracks . Thanks for breaking it down so simply 🙂
Another great tutorial!
Thank you Mike
The concept is truly amazing...the application in reality requires a lot...I experimented with 5.1 and got it to work and I assume the elevation requires speakers in the ceiling. However, I went back to a simple stereo setup. Dolby Atmos is the here and now but after years working with Pro tools managing to get it right I will stay in my lane. It must be nice to go into a studio with this setup and let the engineer do the work. As a songwriter I try to concentrate on the song first and found that when I start messing around with mixing/mastering it is best to leave it to the pros. Thanks MIke you provided a really clear explanation.
Thanks Mike! Very informative and easy to follow.
Gianni❤
I definitely heard the height feature. It became closer, and less transparent. Great videos & You have a Great tutorial demeanor. Thankful for all You do and the time you devote to help us understand all these techniques.
Excelente explicación . Gracias Mike!!!
Thanks, above all for the invaluable preferences/ song setup tour :-)
Thank you Master!!!
Great intro to Studio One's Atmos!!!
Thank YOU Mike! 💙🙏
Thought I’d be waiting until Friday to hear your take. Pleasantly surprised 😊
A little change of schedule this week :) Thanks for watching all my videos man!
Cubase and Studio One. The Greatest made another Greatest.
Thanks Mike!! 🙏
My pleasure!
Great video. I've been mixing atmos in pro tools for awhile now. I've got used to using the Dolby Atmos panner plugin. Can you do a video how to assign objects to use it? (Dolby Atmos panner)
Thanks Mike, you should mention that if you go to the trouble of mixing in Atmos and want the customer to hear it, you should select the binaural mix as an output.
Can you disable it I don’t want to use it at all
No, but if you do not activate Atmos in the Song Setup it will works as a pre 6.5 mix.
Nice.Witch Sound Interface would recommand to deal with Atmos, - in the low budget range ?
Hi Mike, in general, would an Atmos mixdown sound any good if played back on a standard stereo system?
mike do I need to have an audio interface.because I only use the apogee Mic .which does not require an interface unit. thanks for a response.i'm also a subscriber to your channel.
Great walk through, thanks. My little Audient iD4 MKII doesn't provide the headphone output option. May be it just isn't "Atmos ready"?
Ignore that, the iD4 is fine in the end!
Hallo Mike, is there immersive audio processing in the Project Page for mastering?
I am a Studio One user since version 1, still there's loads to learn all the time. I am recording, mixing and mastering bands in mainly stereo with a big curiousity for Atmos and I have a question: What is a great binaural/Atmos headphone at this time? Can i just use that on a standard audio interface or do i need a special interface?
How do you stop things like centered kicks sounding like they have reverb on them, love the idea of making things more spacious but some elements just sound weird.
Hey Mike! I was wondering why I only had surround panning on some of my channels and realized it's because I have many things routed to folders... For example, guitars go to the guitar folder and if you do this, the panning will not show up as surround. Turns out any track you want to be atmos needs to go directly to the mains.
Hopefully this is just a bug as I like using folders to keep what I'm working on clean
I love Studio One!
As far as I understood, this feature is mostly for writing film scores to be viewed in a movie theater. Is it any good for just music producers who release their music at Spotify, RUclips Music and so on? Will it somehow improve the mix quality? Tbh, I didn't hear any special change in my headphones comparing to a regular stereo mix - it made no difference if a sound was panned to the front or to the back..
Great video thank you ! Can’t wait for the Facebook group to grow.
Thanks James - yes, I'm looking forward to things getting going over there too!
Does the object panner work for stereo tracks??
Hi, how is the right way to render a Atmos song to play correctly on the Spotify, Apple Music, deezer?
If i mix in spatial audio and export in sterio will the quality of sterio improve?
How different is this experience from the company Dear VR spatial and Dolby vst plugins?
Nice! But still questions: What about the subwoofer (how to address it?). Can I simulate a head-turn with headphones? Still not clear with Mixdown/Export Atmos here, as it says also for standard wav export, there is 7.1 support going on. But the file is obviously a different and I can hear content with simple VLC playing it on headphones.
Found a way to simulate a head turn: send not to main, but a bus. Then you can use that to turn the head.
Would a template save for an ATMOS project save also the initial audio interface settings? This would help if your working on other non ATMOS projects and you need two different audio profiles.
Yes. Saved with the Song.
How would I change the sample rate of a project where all of the recording and mixing is done? At 44.1khz
Is there a reason the buffer size has to be at 512 samples and not 1024? Also, is it recommended to be at 48hz or 96hz, and not 44.1hz to mix in Atmos? I’m just wondering, because you didn’t explain why to choose those settings.
I don't have an audio interface. How do I go about it with asio4all
Hey Mike, I can't hear Surround sound at my headphones and I have no idea what I om doing wrong. I use Scarlett interface 4i4 And my headphone is plugged in at the frond (output headphones). Can you help me? Or does anybody else had this problem? Many Thanks!
It seems my Audio-Technica ATH-M50xBT2 headphones are not compatible for doing 5.1 Dolby Atmos mastering in Studio One 6.5. I would prefer not to purchase a gaming headphone. The ATH-M50xBT2 runs about $199.00, so I would like to stay near that price point. I run Studio One on Windows 11. Any recommendations?
In the rendering window there is a wrench Click on that wrench Then there will be an option to show headphones output
Why must we change the Buffer setting to 512, I've been using 64 since I've been working with Studio One in 2020 with Version 5, and currently version 6
There must be a difference between the PC and MAC. My surround Panner does not show a single pan; it offers a double left and right. Also, the difference may be with the audio interface; I am currently using a Stio 68c by Presonus.
Hello! Friend, when using Dolby, you have to turn stereo mode on the track, even if the audio-track itself is in mono.
That‘s incorrect. Both mono and stereo channels can be used as objects and there’s no need to change the channel format.
atmos,a great tool for effects ( like overhead bombs falling 😁) not so good for an orchestra or even stage instruments that are seated right in front of you (or left and right) ,the only things that matter for orchestras is the panning, not the height, maybe just for the reverb thats bouncing on the ceiling, thanx for the review Mike, cheers
tons of orchestras with atmos mixes on apple classical that i think would make you change your opinion.
also the philharmonic orchestra of ny does shows like this that are some of the most sought after shows in the world.
@@olleyolletyeah and the experience is really awful. It just doesn’t work and spoils the music
With S1 6.1 and 6.2, after editing an Event with ARA plug-ins and bouncing, then placing it to the mother track, it won't play, but the Performance meter starts flashing RED. Either to quit the session or wait for sometimes idle, then fix it. If you try to bounce the same Event again, S1 will crash instantly. Does anyone else have the same problem? ( Presonus said they fixed this problem with v6.2 , but its not )
Ok so how do I disable it
wonder if there is an ATMOS Headphones out there
Is it correct that an atmos export has a wav extension?
Yes. But it’s not a regular WAV file and can’t be played on a regular audio player.
Thanks so much for this tutorial 🫶🏽🫶🏽….just watched 3 videos but I understand yours more….Thank you
I updated but i don't have that spacial audio tab... what do I do?
If you’re using the Artist version you’ll have to upgrade to Professional or Studio One+
Just something I noticed in your vocal it kind of sounds like your going to say" bust your balls" because you pronounce it bobble. The U after the B isn't pronounced. Just something I noticed but the song sounds great. Let me know if you hear it too. Big fan of the channel. Thanks for the great content.
when I followed the set up ..my out puts did not create a headphone output as in this demo why??
same here, and simply adding a stereo out does not work...
I really have a bad feeling about this Atmos thing I've hardly opened studio one since the last update because its put me off.
Nice tutorial Mike. I am not able to join your FB Group. can't see Join Button.
As if getting a decent mix isn’t already hard enough! I just wasted 2 hours messing about with this and I’m unconvinced. I just want my music to sound like a band playing! Can anyone point me to a song that has been professionally mixed in Atmos that I can listen to please?
Sadly there is going to be a mountain of secondhand monitors on eBay in a few years time when everyone wakes up and realises that Atmos was a futile industry led bandwagon. Meanwhile punters carry on listening to compressed audio in mono! Absolute joke.
I disagree! The Atmos push is led by the improvements and developments in headphone tech. The industry is just gearing up for the shift. For studio one, the new Atmos functionality is a marketshare grab from Cubase, Nuendo and Pro Tools for post-production work
@@deniswilliams5043nah it won’t last atmos is no good for listening to music. There is nothing worse than things moving around when you just want to groove or get into what is happening. The Atmos versions of albums just suck and sound wrong ,spatial placements are all over the place and don’t work. It makes them hard to listen too and fatiguing on your ears. It’s clever tech but like its predecessor Quadraphonic, basically useless.
Feel free to continue being dumb. I've been waiting for this my entire life and I'm 73, started way before the first midi... Go ahead and bury your sand. I don't care. I'm having a blast already❤
Idiots are everywhere. Go ahead and be one
@@garethde-witt6433 you felt that way about your Atmos listening experience become you listened to a bad mix. The possibilities Atmos brings to the table in music are limitless if done right. I am sure you have watched a movie in a Atmos theater. Where you distracted by the sound placement?
@@garethde-witt6433I imagine you're also going to continue running around in a polluting piece of crap fossil combustion vehicle, right? I don't know why people get on here and spew their own stupid windows about what life is about. You really are an idiot. Probably MAGA too
I’m not trying to be difficult or disrespectful but I really don’t see the point of using Atmos for music, or any type surround plugin, non of them enhance the music. I tried the Dear Reality VR plugin which does something along the same lines, and found it just as disappointing. Fun to play with but not much use.
It addresses people making music for films or those having such a setup at home. Ive got a 5.1 setup on my TV. But when I listen to music, it uses only 2.1 speakers and I would be happy to address them all and fill the room with sound instead of just listening from the front. I think Tidal or Apple supports that. Sure it does not make the song better, but it expands the experience of listening for some.
you must work for some competitor or something because you keep posting toxic comments, how about you go mix and master and make music how you make it, and leave other users alone? why be other pages, causes mess. makes no sense.
@@ampstudiosno I just use it for me and I have a right to voice my observations and opinions. if I like something or find something useful I say so, same as if I don’t.
Presonus are just widening their user scope. This Atmos feature is aimed at video and film score producers. Not really a feature that most music producers/mixers would use.
well for those who never used it, they can try it out and get creative with their mixes
And the vast majority of people will listen to music on their smart speaker - effectively in mono. A successor to Quadraphonic hifi that had audiophiles wetting themselves and 98% of the public shrugging their shoulders and listening to their boom box. I can see ATMOS in films but remember that most music is made by radio plays - on a smart speaker, in mono.
People still listen to music in MONO? I’m not talking about mixing in MONO, I’m talking about people listening to their favorite songs in MONO?
To bad atmos is being put in most vehicles now.. ppl do not just listen to music on a phone all day.
On a smart speaker - yes. It´s mono. People listen to their radio station on their smart speaker - mono and virtually every radio station that has played my music has asked for the file in mp3 format. So much for hi-fi quality! In the car - radio or mp3 - it is in stereo but the number of cars with ATMOS is vanishingly small. Remember quad recordings? Bought by hi-fi enthusiasts....and nobody else. Dolby surround is great for movies - puts you in the action - but when was the last time you sat in the middle of an orchestra or just behind the lead guitarist at a gig? The band/orchestra was in front of you and the mix in the speakers was in mono. It has to be otherwise the audience on the left will hear an unbalanced mix as will the audience on the right. So ATMOS is creating a purely artificial effect that is never experienced in real life. You can place the guitarist on the ceiling? Sounds more Spinal Tap than rock to me. @@DaMixWizard
@@DaMixWizardyeah but you still will need to mix in mono for balance
@@ridinglow6732 it doesn’t matter Atmos just doesn’t work very well with music but brilliant for cinema.
mine didnt have a headphone option now what
If your audio interface has only a single stereo output, there is no dedicated headphone output. In this case, the binaural option is available on the main stereo output.
Make sure to turn off binaural mode when listening through monitors.
Interesting, but who is going to buy 12 speakers plus people listen on smart phones or car radios and it will be just stereo still.
The idea is to mix binaurally using headphones which will sound the same as what most people are hearing on their smartphone headphones.
I aleeady struggle to mix in stereo 😆 I think that update is not for me.
😂😂
