Love that you shot this during the day and not just blue / golden hour. Helps those of us who are traveling with non photographers and don’t have the options to be in the best places at the best time of day.
"If you're wondering why I'm shooting wide open at 1.2, it's because I can". Crackup :) Great video Mitch. Brings back memories... I was there 2008, supposed to be only for a day but loved it so much ended up staying a week. Magic place. Beautiful shots and informative commentary as always mate. Would love to see more close up portraits of local people and artisans in your travels.
@@MitchLally I'm really a beginner in this world of photographs. What is kind of confusing to me is that your images are very sharp, as if they were taken using wide lenses. I was expecting a significant blurry result in all of them, but it wasn't the case. Does that happen because of the relative distance of the objects you were focusing, or is this a technique that my untrained eyes didn't catch? (Although I'm new with photographs, I'm a Mechanical Engineer, so don't be afraid to use technical explanation if needed cause I'm familiar with optics).
@@MitchLally and by the way, you're job is awesome!! I'm watching your videos and it's inspiring me to start shooting photos as well. Unfortunately , here in Brazil cameras are very expensive, so I will have to start with an entry level camera (Canon SL3) and try to buy decent lenses (like 50mm f1.4) to see if I have nice results.
@@Lopescadprojetos Hi, I would also like to know what makes the photos so sharp at low aperture? Mitch, can you explain that to us? I do not understand that.
I use a canon M200 + 22mm f2.0 lens, cause that's all I've got. And it is actually being great to learn the basics. I'm getting really used to the 35mm set up, which is cool for a starter like myself (since it's a crop sensor the 22mm lens is equivalent to a 35mm full frame). Thanks for the inspiration!
lol i love how he tried to let you know where the shutter button was. very wholesome. great content as always, nice to see you haven't abandoned the R6 i was worried lol.
Mitch, I love the chill feel of this video-it makes this type of street photography accessible, and I also love seeing your process for spotting photos as you move around.
Great video! I love your presets the muted tones are so nice. Lol I think it’s hilarious that tourist didn’t even realize who he asked to take a picture of him. He lucked out
As always an amazing video. I love your work and the tips you give. Keep going with your nice content and your street photography is very relaxing... love it!
my go to street setup is my Fujifilm xt4 and the 23mmf2 paired with the 50mmf2. beside this setup I also regularly use the 50-140 f2.8 for street photography if I want to get details or more like a compression look. also its a great lens for stray animals and close up portraits.
recently use the EF-M 22mm f2.0 STM, cause of its pancake size so that can discreetly shoot on the street without ppl staring at you, but i the sweet spot would be sigma 30mm f1.4 on my m6 mark ii
Hi Mitch, I know this video is a couple of years old now, but I recently came across it while looking for some tips on street photography. I have an R5 and a couple of RF lenses (15-35 2.8 and 85 1.2). I’m more comfortable with still scenes but am trying to push myself. Can you tell me what you think is the best focussing method for street photography such as this? Most people seem to be recommending AF Servo, Face/Tracking, Eye Detection, People. But it looks as though you were using one point either AF Servo or One Shot. I want to be able to take photos of people in the street as well as general scenes. What do you think works best? Thanks and love your photography style. Melissa
You can customize the buttons along the row of the AF button on the back of the R5 to each trigger a different autofocus type so that you can just press a different button for people autofocus vs landscape etc. just look up multi back button auto focus and there are videos on how to set it up.
Love this video!! Great shots! Personally, my go to gear for Street Photography is as follows: Canon EOS R5, RF 15-35mm f/2.8, RF 50mm f/1.2, and the EF 24-70mm ii f/2.8.
Can't wait to do this in California. I'm sick of looking at all these dead maple trees and bad light hahaha. R6 + 50mm 1.2 + Tammy 35 1.4 here! Great vid as always!!
Lovely video. Makes me want to go back to Venice with my R5. Hardest part will be deciding which lens to take. I just started “street” photography myself (usually shoot birds) and switch between the 35 and 50. Sometimes I wish I was carrying my 24-70.
I've always liked the confirmation sound - I dunno I guess it makes me more confident the shot is in focus :') to each their own I guess. I feel the same about Sony videographers who don't turn off that god awful chime sound for starting and stopping recording lol...
Dont understand the choice of F1.2 in a lot of the photos. For achieving a blurred background, sure, but often you're focused to infinity and no particular foreground...
Bought your presets! I love the vibes, and colours. I recently sold my 50 1.2 to get the 28-70 f2, now i miss the 50 1.2. I think i’m gonna snag the 50 1.8 just because it is few hundred bucks.
So relaxing. Felt like I was right there with you. I need to get to Europe ASAP. Love my RF for street. Just got the RF 24-70 in the mail. Gonna test that out soon too. Great video, Mitch! BTW, what is strapped to your chest? GoPro or Osmo Action? How'd you grade it? The footage looks amazing!
I’ve been a fan of your work for the last 2 years! Funny coincidence, last month while in Venice, I was using your preset pack haha Loved the vibe your preset created. Keep taking amazing photos!
Loved this video man! We were in Venice over the weekend from Australia, I bought my first camera for the trip so it was super helpful as a beginner to watch you in action in the same streets. Thanks Mitch!
Would you recommend shooting with the lens hood or no? Especially for those backlit shots, where you're shooting into the sun. Also how does this compare with your favorite focal length?
Great job man! Love seeing these pov videos. I just started doing street photography in Melbourne earlier tonight for the first time. Used my 50mm and gotta say it was tricky. Just feel shy taking photos of people unless it's from behind and composition is new for me for this type of style. Seeing your video helps me a bit on what to do. Keep up the good work!
Great vid man! Bit of a late comment. But wanted to say that i really get inspired by your video’s and your style. Really digging it. Have a great one man.
For street, I’m enjoying using my Fuji X-H1 and the Voigtlander 35mm. I miss pin sharp focus a lot, but sometimes the photos that are slightly out of focus are more pleasing to me. Your photos are great, by the way.
Super cool video Mitch :) Very cool vibes with you, that allows both to discover Venice (before the city is under the waters with global warming:() and especially that allows to learn tips on how to take beautiful photos in a place with so many tourists
Liked the video, but have a question. Do you always go out with a full backpack, three different lenses and a backup camera? I usually only head out with the R6 and the 15-35 lens - with an extra battery. Having only one lens, I find, forces me to be more thoughtful of my FOV.
"Street photography is not something I do alot of.. I'm trying to get better at it" and then proceeds to take better pictures in one day that I'd ever taken my entire life.
Agree with `Jason Forester'. No camera strap! And such a beautiful piece of kit! Great work as always man. Mainly use my Z6ii and 40mm f2 `Muffin' (haha) lens for street. Now if I had the 50mm f 1.2........... Actually I found it quite interesting using an f 1.2 for street. A lot of people use zone focusing etc to get as much in focus as possible? But the possibilities at f 1.2 as far as selective focus is concerned has got me thinking..... I'll get back to you, just have to go get a second job first!
Dude, holding that R6 and 50mm over all those canals without a lanyard or strap kept giving me small anxiety attacks lol.
😂
😅😅😅
Came here to say this exact same thing haha
As someone who just lost my whole setup off a bridge into water recently for that EXACT reason, can confirm anxiety kicked in 😅😂
And don't forget the...thieves!
Really like these POV street photography videos. its so calm and enjoyable to watch. Also R6 really rocks in low light 🔥
Thanks Bahnam!

All the Aussie Photographers in Europe atm. Love it. Lovely shots Mitch. Great to see TKN too.
One my favourite videos of yours hands down
Good vibes on this man, love it.
I can't begin to tell you how much I enjoyed every minute of this video. Wow
I was waiting for blue hour / night shots. The warm tones of the street lights and the blue sky is beautiful to shoot. Nice video mate! 👍
I love that you do street photography on burst, but it also gives me anxiety because I know what that post edit workflow looks like lol
Awesome combo! Very nice pictures! Thank you for sharing your travels!
Me: planning summer holidays in Venice and Italy

Love my R6 but got an M6 Mark II with the 22mm pancake lens. Small light and discreet for street photography.

Bro all the Egyptians i’ve met, are the nicest people every man
My most used Setup for Street is my A7III + the Sony 85mm F1.8
And if i am new in a City, then i use my Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 😁
Loved the video and images! I thought you did a great job!🏆 Would love to see more of this kind of videos. Take care!
Beautiful photos!!
hahaha! I love the Guy Who asked for a Photo and Tought You where to Shutter Button Is and Ended Up Having A Sick 50 1.5mm Shot! Love it Bro!
reminds me my travel to Venice, well done, nice snaps!

Super awesome! Love your style of shooting and composition. Always inspires me to go out and shoot. I always look forward to your uploads
