Also, this play was based on a book that was written in 2004, which was based somewhere in 2010-2015. That means that if the plot of the play was concurrent to the plot of the book then the characters would have been born anywhere from 1993-1998. Dunno if that makes any difference, but I do agree with the other guy here who pointed out that it mostly has to do with Jeremy and Michael specifically since they’re the ones who make most of the super dated references and there’s even a song about how they idolize outdated pop culture
YOURE SO RIGHT ABOUT THE ENDING OMG ive always thought this voices in my head would b so much more powerful if the point was that he didnt need christines approval to be chill THANK U
On the outdated language thing: the writers said that they used way out of date slang on purpose because if they used modern slang, it would just become outdated itself in a few years
Amelia Simmons well the show was out in 2015, and it's currently 2017, so yes the show was still relevant a few years down the road from when it was written :)
I mean the show was made in 2015 and two years later it's one of the most popular shows on the internet right now? and it's just been licensed so other companies can make their own adaptations so yeah I'd say it's gonna be relevant in a few years
Jeremy actually does like theater, when he sees the poster in the beginning he gets really excited, he just never signed up because he doesn't want to get made fun of more than he already is
UPDATE: Apparently you can get sushi at some school cafeterias AND 7-11. What a world we live in. 2nd Update: Apparently New Jersey exists in a parallel dimension???
ALSO heather duke doesn't have a solo besides reprises because it is used as a point to show her lack of originality and how she can only base her personality off of others.
joe iconis on the slushie service thing: "In a world where supercomputers can invade your brain and tell you how to act, is it really so impossible to think someone could be serving slushies at 7-11?"
Ima agree with your last point with the whole "don't chase after a person who doesn't like you" i originally thought that the end song was to Brooke: the girl that....you know....actually liked Jeremy. It made way more sense to me than him going to the girl who never ever liked him
Or Michael because one of the Joes confirmed that no one in bmc is straight & its obvious they had an intense bromance and foR GODS SAKE CAN WE HAVE ONE CANNONICALLY GAY COUPLE WHERE NO ONE DIES IN THE END P L E A S E
What do you mean Christine never/doesn’t like him. During the party he and her actually geek out while the squip isn’t there and she only turns him down because she is feeling unsure about herself and what she wants to do in life. Christine and Jeremy have pretty nice chemistry when it is shown.
I’m later but Jake, despite supposedly being the other love interest, was actually a pretty decent guy throughout the show rather than a stereotypical bully type character
“Sacrifice”, lol But yeah, without using THAT wording, the song is about putting aside your own comfort to help the ones you love. That’s why Michael was involved in it too, and why the song explored his need to help Jeremy as a friend even after Jeremy treated him like a piece of garbage.
I think you're supposed to feel awkward during Do You Wanna Ride? I think that's what the purpose was, and to show that Jeremy really isn't used to this sort of thing Also I completely agree that Christine still shouldn't have gone out with him
I love how you mentioned Stranger Things as decent dialogue for teenagers. Even though it takes place in the 80s, it's still very real and well-written.
Self-acceptance is the entire point of this musical. The Squip represents peer pressure and the desire to conform, and when it goes away, only then does Jeremy find happiness. "Voices in My Head" is about this as well; the "voices" are also representative of peer pressure. Jeremy says the "the loudest [voice] is [his]", showing that he is going to be his own person and not give in to what others expect of him. Sorry for the wall of text. I just really like this musical.
Idk but I like to think that Jeremy references older things because he just has older tastes. I guess you could say it makes him “more of a loser” because he isn’t “down with the kids”. I’m not trying to say there’s anything wrong with liking older stuff but I think that’s why Jeremy talks like that. And we know Michael likes retro stuff so maybe that’s why they’re friends. Also, I think in Voice’s In My Head Christine says yes because she thinks she’ll give him a try, see how it goes. It might end up that after they’ve gone out for lunch she might like him more because she’s got to know him, and even if she doesn’t like him romantically she still says yeah because going for lunch with Jeremy gives her a chance to get to know him as friends too and she might gain a good friend out of the experience.
yeah I agree about jeremy using out of date slang because of his tastes and it highlights how he doesn't fit in with the kids at school, when he's got the squip he uses way more up to date slang and in the original version of be more chill pt 1 the squip says he's only allowed to use squip approved vernacular
I’m a bit disappointed you hadn’t pointed out the differences of Michael between the book and musical in the book he’s a white, straight dude with a blond afro and kind of apathetic but in the musical he’s a phillipino, gay dude with tons of character depth and overall probably the most relatable and emotional character within he musical
The pants song is one of my favorite songs in the entire I feel like it is actually really Important to the plot. It's the Point where Jeramy's dad finally starts to take control of his son and if he didn't go and talk to Micheal he wouldn't have saved the day, he would still be in his room crying and burning stuff.
yeah to me the most important part of the song was that it was a turning point in Michael's character and it made him get off his ass and research how he could help his friend
Love your video as always and I agree with everything but the pants song I think wants to show that his father cared enough for him to get up and help him because he noticed that he seemed to not be doing great and I guess they want to show that if you have people who love you and support you,you can get through everything. This book was generally intended as a metaphor for the author's psychological problems and stuff and to show that everything was going to be okay.Nevertheless, not disagreeing that without it nothing would have changed and not saying that it was the most inspiring show ever.
Well in the pants song Mr. Heere also convinces Michael to try harder to be Jeremy's friend and I feel like if that didn't happen then the scene in The Play where Michael saves everyone wouldn't have happened
yeah the pants song works a million times better in the audio boot than in the soundtrack because you have the whole scene with michael burning all his memories with jeremy, to me the important part of that song is mr heere convincing michael to try to help jeremy again because that's the thing that actually saves the day, literally the only thing mr heere does after this song is show up at the hopsital wearing pants after everythings already been fixed so yeah, even though the songs focus is on mr heere it's way more important for michael
Honestly, every point your making is what makes this musical a guilty pleasure for me now. When I heard it entirely twice or so I was completely adoring fan mode but now, it's just something I listen to so I can feel better or have something to pick me up cause it's extremely goofy and dumb with the lyrics a lot of the time. Especially with the nonsense Joe Iconis thinks kids say(or whoever the lyricist is) and boy is it dated since I think the book it's based on was trying to write 2015 lingo 2005 although I've never read it. I just like it when I need something dumb but generic and kinda fun instrumentals. And I'm a sucker for George Salazar for many a reason. It's just a weird thing with a lot of issues that burrowed into my chest cavity
They don’t actually think kids that’ll that way. 1. It’s meant to be over done for reasons of comedy 2. If they used modern slang it’d just be outdated in a year or two so why not go all out
If you think about it, a 7-11 fancy enough to have a slushie barista, might have sushi that is safe to eat. Actually if you stick with a California roll, you are probably safe since there is no raw fish.
I thought the dialogue was supposed to be outdated ? To show how "uncool" Jeremy and Michael are, and it fits since they both have an obsession with the 80s. I had a phase where I absolutely adored the Beatles (still do ngl) and I was googling stuff about their hometown Liverpool, and I picked up some of their slang because of it. That's why I thought they were using dated dialogue for Jeremy and Michael because no other character seems to talk in the same fashion. Yea that's my 2 cents thanks for coming to my ted talk
the point of it sounding like she was going to say into you but then her actually saying jake was because it was set up to be shocking, you're meant to fully expect her to say she likes jeremy as much as he's expecting it then you're as shocked as he is even though shes already shown clearly that shes into him,, like why would she sing a whole song about liking jeremy then lie and say she actually likes jake and then go and date jake and turn jeremy down??
Anti Social Headphones Kid I saw it as she’s liked him since I Love Play Rehearsal and she began to like Jake because she thought Jeremy wouldn’t like her
As a girl who listens to BMC, I don't need a female in the show to relate to, just because I'm female doesn't mean I can only relate to females. Plus, from my experience the girls in BMC are a pretty good representation of teen girls now, most gossip a lot, but others (Christine) don't.
You know, I never felt like the girls in my high school were like that. Maybe it was a small school peculiarity, but those chicks were an obnoxious minority. Even girls who had the appearance of the Hollywood Teen™ didn't really confirm behaviorally to the expectations. I don't judge this show too harshly because it's a comedy that doesn't take itself seriously and overloads its script with cliches and outdated slang for the lulz (I hope), but it has always frustrated me how often this type of girl is written as the "normal" teenage girl. Normal teenage girls to me were really athletic and had a tendency to stay in the music program, if I had to try to pin them down. Tried really hard at most things and were very organized. Worried about clothes and makeup. Prooooobably worth noting that the name attached to my dicking around email was completely made up by me in tenth grade and that I am actually a girl. So yeah, Audrey's random outpouring of thoughts that's not quite a response to your comment, end. Enjoy your night/day/temporal location.
Eric Gardner Same I always felt like the girls in my class were pretty cool besides some who always talked shit about their own friend group behind their backs but they were a minority
At my school, at least 75% of the girls in my grade (and possibly other grades) are what most people would consider the stereotypical popular girl. They're loud, obnoxious, gossip and just plain annoying. I guess it's different in some schools depending on the people that go there.
Okay. So, the pants song actually is for characterization of Michael and Jeremy's Dad cuz it shows how Michael normally is, his sadness, even his loyalty to Jeremy as a friend while with his dad (Despite wishing he would indeed put some pants on) it shows his concern for Jeremy and he realizes that he can't make a difference in Jeremy's actions right now because he isn't really a father to his son but he knows who can (hence Michael) and he decides to actually try to become a better person. Or something like that. Idk I'm just a stranger on the internet :|
Yaqeena Nazari I just think it was really important to show that Jeremy was not alone in the battle and ESPECIALLY showing his dad cared and loves him so much and it’s just great because half of these shows the parents are idiots or don’t care or aren’t there in general so Jeremy’s dad was just so important!
I kinda like how Jeremy uses all the outdated language, because he’s like the nerdiest kid ever. Also, probably a side effect of hanging out with Michael. Meh, just my opinion.
10:44 I generally feel like the pants song is one of the most underrated songs on the album. this is because this song is all about how Jeremy's dad finally starts paying attention to Jeremy's well being. this is the song where he realizes that Jeremy needs a father figure in his life. so, he decides to finally become a better dad for Jeremy. unfortunately, he doesn't know how to do this on his own which is why he asks Micheal to help him. the only reason why it is called the pants song is because it is a metaphor as to how Jeremy's dad doesn't wear pants like EVER. it says in the song, "when you love somebody you put your pants on for them" because its trying to show how his dad is trying to be brave and help out his son.
I believe the purpose of the Pants Song is to have a song motivating Michael to go out and help Jeremy. And with the no pants thing, I think it was just so they could use the phrase “put ur pants on” in that context? Also it added a bit more comedy (not that the show needed it at all) to the “crucial” moment in the show.
I think that most of these were intentional to show how these specific characters work. Like Jeremy not talking like normal teenagers would show how out of touch and “old school” he is
I'm a teenager... I don't even know what "Mac-Daddy" means. That's how out of touch with modern teens the dialogue is. Also I still love this musical but I never noticed how Yikes the female characters are until you pointed it out...
I never had a problem with it. The meaning is easily deduced from the context and he’s a character obsessed with the 80s and 90s of course he’s gonna incorporate that into his vocabulary.
I live in England and slushies aren’t self service, people who work in the store do it for you as the machine is on the other side of the counter, if thats makes sense?
"When was the last time we had a protagonist who liked musicals??" I mean, there's an entire musical called "The guy who didn't like musicals" so you can imagine that we might not get another musical lover in a while
joe tracz’s words on why they changed the ending: “Great question! The book leaves things open ended, but musicals come with a very different set of expectations, and we knew we wanted something that offered a clearer resolution. We also knew we wanted to push the science fiction elements further, and create a climax that paid off everyone's character arcs, not just Jeremy. So from there we came up with the idea of the Squip taking over the play!”
do you alter the pitch of the songs so you don"t get flagged, just asking cause of the bits of the songs you play don't sound like how they sound in the soundtrack
I didn’t like the ending either, because it implies that he became friends with the “popular kids” as well, and in the book he was just back where he started, with just micheal- and the squip was actually TRYING to help him as well. it’s just that the only way you can become popular or get people to like you is to be yourself, and if they don’t like that then there’s nothing you can do.
//blink// Wut? I had a free period for lunch since grade nine (and the only reason why we didn't have free lunch in elementary was we lived in the sticks; my townie friends walked home for lunch every day and just had to be back by the end of noon recess). Has it gotten that bad, or are Americans just weird?
Jessie le Fey I’m in grade nine. I have free period for lunch. Also I can go all the way up the street, get food, come back, and still have a ton of time left.
Great video and really good points, just wanted to say one thing about a comment with "Dead Gay Son" from Heathers. Many writers like to add a funny and normally unnecessary song at the beginning of Act 2 in order to slowly transition the audience back into the world of the show. To me, a great example would be the new Frozen musical which I saw while in Denver, which has a hilarious Act 2 opener, but literally did 0% to the plot except for a costume change for Anna.
Oh, and with "Shine A Light" also built off of the same aspect, but provided Heather with the tune for when she tried to take the pills. They just wanted the reprise to be familiar and dramatic. Of course, with both of these arguments, these were just my interpretations of them, and I could be totally wrong.
I completely agree with you on the Pants Song and Dead Gay Son, I've always disliked them but I haven't been able to put a finger on why. I think that they're both very unnecessary. It would make sense to put songs like that (but not really) in a show like Dear Evan Hansen where the audience is seeing things from both the perspectives of the high schoolers and adults. Heathers and Be More Chill are pretty much only about high schoolers so it doesn't make a lot of sense to add those songs.
The Pants song is actually very necessary, it shows Jeremy’s dads other side and is actually a very sweet song. Dead gay son I just don’t know with that one..
I agree with Dead Gay Son but The Pants Song? it symbolizes how Jeremy’s dad was willing to take the first step on actually being there for Jeremy since he would never, like seriously never wear pants after Jeremy’s mom left (or died or something idrk much about what happened between them) but in the time of need, he stepped up for him. Its *way* more symbolic than you think.
idk if this is just in Canada or where I live in canada But we have a like an hour and 15 minutes lunch and it’s open, and it’s open to all grades in high school.
The voices in my head thing was referring to all the people that keep telling him what he should do even without the squip, just now he doesn't listen to them, "the loudest one is mine"
Ok so I actually didn't like the book and I thought that when Joe Iconis and Joe tracz wrote this as a musical they made all the right changes. I personally think the ending in the book is lazy and cliche and I really like the ending of the musical. Joe Iconis also said in an interview that voices in my head was a good ending because they wanted to normalize the fact that it's ok to have irrational thoughts as long as you make good decisions in the end. Also about what you kept saying about the cheesy dialogue. It's like that because it's based on the 2004 novel and the show itself is very quirky and is supposed to have a quirky vibe.
Well he did like theater in the musical which is why he gives that chuckle and smile when he says " its a sign up for the after school play" but he never signs up for them until them because he was scared of being made fun of
at my high school, lunch is considered a class, so we get the same amount of time (which is about an hour), so if Michael's school did that, he might have had time to get sushi and a slushie. I have no idea about their open lunch policy though.
That teenage girl thing omg. Like I can relate so much. Your thoughts sum up exactly what I think. I also think the bad slang in this musical might be intentional. Cause it's so so bad. Too bad to be real. Dating in theater sucks for wlw tho. Trust me. I thought the same thing about voices in my head. But also like it makes sense. Probably about intrusive thoughts. I really enjoy your videos btw!
In terms of the Pant Song, the only relevance I can see is how it pushes Michael to not give up on his friendship with Jeremy. And then he goes to the show because of this. And, ya know, basically saves the world with his Christmas colored refreshment.
The pants song is a metaphor for Jeremy's dad stepping up & being there more in his life. In the full musical, there is some dialogue between Jeremy & his dad that isn't in the soundtrack & it suggests that Jeremy's dad is sort of lazy & doesn't do much. In the musical, he doesn't wear pants (as you already know) & the pants song is showing that he wants to help Jeremy & so he's stepping up. It's all a metaphor. The reason Jeremy's mom is not in the musical is because it makes sense for characters to be combined for theatrical purposes. Many other characters have also been combined into one. Chole, Brooke, & Jake are some examples. Each one is a few mostly irrelevant characters from the book combined. If all the characters in the book were in the musical, it would be too long & many people would be complaining about the irrelevance of a lot of the characters.
I've read the book and I agree with you about the ending. I definitely liked the book ending more, even though I get why they changed it to make it more climactic.
Ok fuck I love how this dude talks??? It's very emotional and expressive like??? I wanted to animate this because good god it's so expressive. The point being you talk good and I don't know where I was going with this it's fun to listen to you
Saw it yesterday. My husband and I are both senior citizens and we loved it. It is satire! Music is catchy, voices are fantastic. It also IS retro. As an older person, I recognized the Cell phone song was straight out of Bye Bye Birdie, which also had a phone song. There were the requisite generic high school kids.. that's why one laughed so hard at Christine, signing up for the play. DRAMA QUEEN. I never noticed the sexist "stuff" probably because it seemed to come right out of MY high school experience; Which probably is why I'm a strong feminist now. But I still loved it.. as satire! Music went viral, because it is so much damned fun and catchy. I think it will head to Broadway soon. Most fiction is not like real life, or it would be boring.. It might even become a classic. Everyone, no matter what age can recognize the characters.. and relate.
The Pants Song is there because pants are often symbolic of who's in control of the family, and up until that point in the show, Mr. Heere had just sat back and let Jeremy do whatever he wanted. Him putting on pants shows that he's taking charge and being more active in their relationship. Although I do agree that this whole arc could easily have been left out. It would certainly make it seem less out of place.
ok so, one of the things that bothers me the most even though it really shouldn't is that one of the creators said squips were related to sony somehow after an instagram question they got so, when rich says that you can use the squip as a control for video games, it irks me because rich says right before the controller statement that he has an xbox, but since squips are related to sony technology wouldn't it make more sense for rich to have a playstation since then the technology would be connected?
omg i didnt realise how much i agreed with you on the teenage girls thing until you mentioned it
yikes
ukulili VEG

On the outdated language thing: the writers said that they used way out of date slang on purpose because if they used modern slang, it would just become outdated itself in a few years
Clara G V you say that like this show is gonna be relevant in a few years😂😂 that’s hilarious
Amelia Simmons well the show was out in 2015, and it's currently 2017, so yes the show was still relevant a few years down the road from when it was written :)
You can do what Joss Whedon does and make up your own slang. Then it will be timeless.
I mean the show was made in 2015 and two years later it's one of the most popular shows on the internet right now? and it's just been licensed so other companies can make their own adaptations so yeah I'd say it's gonna be relevant in a few years
Amelia Simmons
It’s 2018. And bmc is incredibly popular. So you’ve been disproven.
Everything wrong with BMC: bootleg part 2 is missing
Mm true
Ture
The person that recorded it stopped recording out of fear for getting caught, if I remember properly.
so true
That's true
Jeremy actually does like theater, when he sees the poster in the beginning he gets really excited, he just never signed up because he doesn't want to get made fun of more than he already is
UPDATE: Apparently you can get sushi at some school cafeterias AND 7-11. What a world we live in.
2nd Update: Apparently New Jersey exists in a parallel dimension???
1: we have 75 minute lunch
2: anyone can go out to open lunch
But if you think about it, Michael's sushi standards are pretty sad. Neither of those options is good.
Yeah. . . You can get sushi at my school.
Broadway Radical I mean he could’ve brought it with him from like home or something?
Black Coffee Productions YAS
Everything wrong with bmc: George Salazar isn’t my husband........ that’s it......
Micheal -Mell- Jackson aye i seen you in the falsettos comment section
omg i love you
Me
I concur
👏👏
In the book, the dad never wore pants. It was a huge plot point in Jermey's relationship with his parents.
Beasty 🙌🙌🙌🙌
Beasty He wasn't just pantless. *HE WAS BUCK NAKED*
Lauren Worley In the book, yes, he was naked. But in the show, he just doesn’t wear pants.
I'm late but he rarely ever wore clothes anyway??
Beasty The pants song makes more sense
ALSO heather duke doesn't have a solo besides reprises because it is used as a point to show her lack of originality and how she can only base her personality off of others.
Amaya C I NEVER REALIZED THAT
Just another geek trying to imitate the popular people and failing
Megan Royston *failing MISERABLY
Amaya C WAT. i never realised that oh my gosh wat
Amaya C yeah but hc doesn't have any solos
I kinda feel like 'Michael in the Bathroom' is the first song everyone hears lol
defonotbootlegs it was the first song I listened to so very true lol
Willow Alexander its the same for me lol
Nah, ironically, my first was Voices in My Head, THEN Michael In The Bathroom. My third was probably Be More Chill pt. 1.
Just like Waving Through a Window in Dear Evan Hansen
I wish it were the only one I heard because after that it’s only a let down
joe iconis on the slushie service thing: "In a world where supercomputers can invade your brain and tell you how to act, is it really so impossible to think someone could be serving slushies at 7-11?"
I love this
+Alex Marie WHAT
SOMEONE ACTUALLY ASKED HIM ABOUT THIS, AND HE REPLIES TO MOST MESSAGES ON INSTAGRAM AND THAT WAS WHAT HE SAID
W h a t
Everything Is wrong because I just realized two weeks ago that bmc is the message “take a chill pill”
The message is more like "Don't take that chill pill"
I think the message is tic tacs are evil and red is the best color
the message of bmc is get a squip,, but only for a bit
The message is more like “Don’t do drugs from Japan unless you have a Micheal around”
Fuck.
My answer to half of this video: ...it's New Jersey bro
heroicbookworm 12
everything is legal in New Jersey.
Nicole Pang eeeeey 👉👉👉
i live in jersey and that is definitely a valid answer
Nicole Pang You beat me to it god damnit
this is true, we’re a fucking weird state
For the slushies
It depends where you go, some places dont trust people to pour their own slushies
Shy Fly I've never poured my own slushie in my life personally
we have self serve here in nj
Yeah, like I said, depends where you go, where I live the hood areas cant pour their own slushies but in the nicer areas they have self serve
Shy Fly Micheal apparently goes to the hood to get 7-11
in england the till person always pours it for you so i never questioned the line lmao
Ima agree with your last point with the whole "don't chase after a person who doesn't like you" i originally thought that the end song was to Brooke: the girl that....you know....actually liked Jeremy. It made way more sense to me than him going to the girl who never ever liked him
satherandfon
Tbh I actually liked Jeremy and Brooke as a couple!
+Anthony Merle I know I'm late but I want to add that Christine only chose to be with Jake is because he showed appreciation to her.
I’m later but Jake, despite supposedly being the other love interest, was actually a pretty decent guy throughout the show rather than a stereotypical bully type character
The Pants Song is supposed to symbolize the sacrifice Jeremy's Dad is making for his son
Ericthesinger2 that why that's on my top 10 list of the songs in it
Yeah he was a little harsh
I hate that song so much omg it's useless, cringy and I HATE Jeremy's dad's voice
Zealous Zombae I don't agree but you can like what you want
“Sacrifice”, lol
But yeah, without using THAT wording, the song is about putting aside your own comfort to help the ones you love. That’s why Michael was involved in it too, and why the song explored his need to help Jeremy as a friend even after Jeremy treated him like a piece of garbage.
I think you're supposed to feel awkward during Do You Wanna Ride? I think that's what the purpose was, and to show that Jeremy really isn't used to this sort of thing
Also I completely agree that Christine still shouldn't have gone out with him
I'm gonna say "seize the means of production my dog" all the time now
AlwaysGonnaSing FUCKING same
I love how you mentioned Stranger Things as decent dialogue for teenagers. Even though it takes place in the 80s, it's still very real and well-written.
the one dislike is the "newer cooler version" of Michael
I don't think it's possible for any version of me to be cool
Michael Mell Its okay bb, you're cooler than a vintage cassette~
and the squip
Yes, Christine Canigula is diabetes level sweet.
hey man, you subscribed to my art channel on youtube
U w U yeah
That's exactly what I thought
I’m a bit disappointed you hadn’t pointed out the differences of Michael between the book and musical in the book he’s a white, straight dude with a blond afro and kind of apathetic but in the musical he’s a phillipino, gay dude with tons of character depth and overall probably the most relatable and emotional character within he musical
+Animeoversociallife I have not read the book
Yup! Micheal in the musical is the best character by far
I don’t want to be *that person* but it’s spelled Filipino :)
musical is better

The pants song exists because yes.
The pants song is one of my favorite songs in the entire I feel like it is actually really Important to the plot. It's the
Point where Jeramy's dad finally starts to take control of his son and if he didn't go and talk to Micheal he wouldn't have saved the day, he would still be in his room crying and burning stuff.
yeah to me the most important part of the song was that it was a turning point in Michael's character and it made him get off his ass and research how he could help his friend
Him: Theatre people are scientifically proven to be more attractive.
Me: Fuck I've been in theatre my whole life why am I still ugly?

My dude, everyone says my dude nowadays ✌
My friends and I actually do say ´my dude'
Teens say my dude
What's wrong with that, my dude?
Oops There Goes My Social Life Omg yes that too!!
yeah the pants song works a million times better in the audio boot than in the soundtrack because you have the whole scene with michael burning all his memories with jeremy, to me the important part of that song is mr heere convincing michael to try to help jeremy again because that's the thing that actually saves the day, literally the only thing mr heere does after this song is show up at the hopsital wearing pants after everythings already been fixed so yeah, even though the songs focus is on mr heere it's way more important for michael
You get 20,000 points!!!
Pandoras Chaos There's totally nothing wrong with liking it even though it's ridiculous
Literally me too.
They don’t actually think kids that’ll that way. 1. It’s meant to be over done for reasons of comedy 2. If they used modern slang it’d just be outdated in a year or two so why not go all out
Pandoras Chaos Same
No you get the sushi at 7-11
Meme Queen why isn’t h dead then??
If you think about it, a 7-11 fancy enough to have a slushie barista, might have sushi that is safe to eat. Actually if you stick with a California roll, you are probably safe since there is no raw fish.
Michael probably met JD there
Freeeeze Your Braaaaiiiiiiinnnnn!!!
That’s why the girl gave him a generous slushy pour because she was so distracted by JD
I always viewed the Christine thing as her lying about liking Jake at the end of Guy That I'd Kinda Be Into
Pure Trash same
Sarah Hamilfan I know right
the point of it sounding like she was going to say into you but then her actually saying jake was because it was set up to be shocking, you're meant to fully expect her to say she likes jeremy as much as he's expecting it then you're as shocked as he is even though shes already shown clearly that shes into him,, like why would she sing a whole song about liking jeremy then lie and say she actually likes jake and then go and date jake and turn jeremy down??
Sarah Hamilfan whoa whoa whoa i have never noticed this that’s so cool
Anti Social Headphones Kid I saw it as she’s liked him since I Love Play Rehearsal and she began to like Jake because she thought Jeremy wouldn’t like her
Keep in mind Jeremy and Michael are the only ones that really use outdated slang. I think it's just part of their characters
I honestly relate to the guys in musicals usually
Honestly same
*looks down at my musical theater degree* So this means I am more attractive? YAY!
You can buy sushi at 7 eleven
+chocolate cake the HELL YOU SAY
NOT IN MY STATE WTF MAN
I would stick with the California rolls though. no raw fish.
Dude. Don't trust gas station sushi XD
Like Jeremy not talking like normal teenagers would show how out of touch and “old school” he is
Ok, but many high schools nowadays have refrigerators filled with all sorts of food like salads, sandwiches, and yes, sushi.
I mean... every theatre kid I know calls Macbeth MacDaddy.... so ummm yea
I'm a teenager... I don't even know what "Mac-Daddy" means. That's how out of touch with modern teens the dialogue is. Also I still love this musical but I never noticed how Yikes the female characters are until you pointed it out...
No one has used it unironically since it was fashionable for rappers to wear their clothes backward.
I never had a problem with it. The meaning is easily deduced from the context and he’s a character obsessed with the 80s and 90s of course he’s gonna incorporate that into his vocabulary.
"jk those were all the same person"
AW DANG YOU GOT EM'
The reason that he uses so much dated slang and references is because him and Micheal like retro/vintage/older stuff.
Not me realising I actually had sushi and slushies for lunch when I was in high school in 2015, holy heck.
The one thing wrong with BMC:
*not enough gay*
Kate Williams
*slides in 50 bucks*
MAKE IT GAYER
*not enough gay between Michael and Jeremy*
RIGHT
*NOT ENOUGH WITH JAKE AND RICH!!*
get over yourself
I live in England and slushies aren’t self service, people who work in the store do it for you as the machine is on the other side of the counter, if thats makes sense?
Kav yeah and (some) stores in America used to do that too, such as 711, which is why they added this haha
"When was the last time we had a protagonist who liked musicals??"
I mean, there's an entire musical called "The guy who didn't like musicals" so you can imagine that we might not get another musical lover in a while
Omg I LOVE THAT SHOW

That's impossible there is nothing wrong with dear Evan hansen

The only thing wrong with dear even Hansen is the fact that there isn’t a sequel or prequel
Sir Nerdsworth no because it is perfect
Sir Nerdsworth the only thing wrong is that ben platt is gonna stop doing it on november 19
when the captain of the debate team is still fuckin banging
Huh... Guess the fanfics really convinced me that everything makes sense in BMC
Totally agree about the representing girls thing, I'm a dude but yeah I agree
Nikki yeah I feel like they could have made both Brooke and Jenna better characters without losing any important aspects of the show.
joe tracz’s words on why they changed the ending:
“Great question!
The pants song exists so that Michael can basically learn to forgive Jeremy by talking to Jeremys dad
do you alter the pitch of the songs so you don"t get flagged, just asking cause of the bits of the songs you play don't sound like how they sound in the soundtrack
+SuperDarthNerd Yes
The way Jeremy talks is on purpose bc he is supposed to be "retro" and weird and stuff
Ok about the juniors not being able to go out for lunch in some schools both seniors and juniors can go out for lunch lol
Thomas Jefferson in my school, open lunch doesn't even exist so I was mega confused for a moment.
I have six years of high school, and we're aloud out during all of them lmao. I also assumed he would have a packed lunch
When I heard “in the year of our lord 2015” I almost spat out my drink
I didn’t like the ending either, because it implies that he became friends with the “popular kids” as well, and in the book he was just back where he started, with just micheal- and the squip was actually TRYING to help him as well. it’s just that the only way you can become popular or get people to like you is to be yourself, and if they don’t like that then there’s nothing you can do.
as a millennial, i can 100% back up that marxism is all the kids talk about nowadays
+roseclipping. nice

My school doesn't have a free lunch, if you leave it counts as skipping
Americans are just weird
It depends on your school really.
You... you people can leave? If we leave, we get the cops called on us.
Elena dinguis yeah, I don't know as much about Be More Chill but yeah dead gay son...
I am inimitable, I am an original that's a really really good point, I've only listened to BMC a few times so it wasn't really my place to say.
The Pants Song is also important plot-wise because it shows why Micheal showed up to the theater show and literally saved everybody.
“halloween; oh look, its big fun, but now” I SPIT OUT MY WATER
I MEAN YOURE NOT WRONG
idk if this is just in Canada or where I live in canada But we have a like an hour and 15 minutes lunch and it’s open, and it’s open to all grades in high school.
It's set in New Jersey
where i live, we have 45 minutes for lunch after second period.
I have an hour for lunch and the people who can drive makes it an open lunch cause they just...leave
I have only 30 minutes to be out of class to get lunch, no passing times -_-
In France you have 50 to 2h45 min depending on what classes you have
The voices in my head thing was referring to all the people that keep telling him what he should do even without the squip, just now he doesn't listen to them, "the loudest one is mine"
Well he did like theater in the musical which is why he gives that chuckle and smile when he says " its a sign up for the after school play" but he never signs up for them until them because he was scared of being made fun of
I actually think Jeremy and Brooke are a better couple.
Come at me, fandom.
i don't think jeremy was actually into brooke tho.
at my high school, lunch is considered a class, so we get the same amount of time (which is about an hour), so if Michael's school did that, he might have had time to get sushi and a slushie.
And, ya know, basically saves the world with his Christmas colored refreshment.
please

you already said what was right- everything
Caren Jefferson Two Words: George Salazar.
@@ren1245 *Saladbar :D

Everyone, no matter what age can recognize the characters.. and relate.
Lol my high schools lunch is an hour long so kids go shopping during that time and come back in 45 min
Thank goodness this video exists. BMC is a nice show, but the characters are written so unrealistically
AlwaysGonnaSing if it was realistic it would just be another musical that’s gonna be forgotten for the first couple of weeks ._.
I got hooked to the show cuz its so exagerrated and unrealistic and I love it :D
“Is captain of debate team”
“Offended”
“Also a theater person”
“Perplexed”
"not sure if this says more about the dating pool or my love life... umm can we cut this part." Freaking gold right there
Even if I love be more chill I respect these opinions lmao it's funny
you just gave me so much self-confidence when you said "theatre people are so much more atractive"
ok so, one of the things that bothers me the most even though it really shouldn't is that one of the creators said squips were related to sony somehow after an instagram question they got
so, when rich says that you can use the squip as a control for video games, it irks me
because rich says right before the controller statement that he has an xbox, but since squips are related to sony technology wouldn't it make more sense for rich to have a playstation since then the technology would be connected?
I think he means like how they can control your body, like how Jeremy's Squip taught his hands the combination for Rich's locker.
that makes so much sense and now i feel like an idiot,, whOOPS
“George Salazar is just....delightful” iF YOU FUCKING KNEW HOW MUCH I LOVE THIS MAN
