The new C63 is a 4 Cylinder with 680HP of F1 tech, that AMG calls a “C63” : but having owned 12 C63s, this is a statement I wholly Reject! Welcome back to RBR, I’m Raz - sometimes known as Mr.AMG, because I’m addicted to these emotion spiking cars AMG are best known for making. None more so than the C 63, a car I’ve bought on 12 separate occasions since its debut in 2008. I genuinely think it’s their purest AMG.
And with the new car, we have a crisis of Identity - while it’s an extremely capable performance car, it misses almost all the notes that make up a “C 63” - So today, I’m here to celebrate the best example of that identity - the outgoing C63 S Coupe facelift.
So, what makes up the identity of a C 63? No one actually knows this better than AMG themselves, look what they wrote in the Press Release for this car in 2018:
“Unique offering in the segment with V8 biturbo engine”
“muscular character of the rear-wheel drive icon”
So V8, RWD, emotion, and dynamics. That’s always been the C63. The new one has dynamics but without the other three - it’s just a different car cosplaying a C63 at halloween.
Also remember, it was historically their best selling car, again from the press release:
“The AMG C-Class is our best-selling model series and therefore a key cornerstone of our company's success of recent years.”
Compare that to the current car, which, according to the dealers who I’ve spoken to, and I know tons around the world being in the position I am: I don’t know anyone who sold even one 4 cylinder! The higher-ups at Mercedes took a big risk asking AMG to go in this direction with their biggest seller: and it looks like they’re paying the price for thinking they know better than their customer.
But as I said, this example is probably the best example, because it stays true to the formula, and has components that are still used extensively even today.
The V8 for example has been used in everything from C63, to the GT Black series at 730 BHP, and even now an updated version of this engine is still used today in the new AMG GT!
In the C63, it only ever spawned two variants in 8 years.
C63 476 HP, 650 NM, 4.0
C63 S 510 HP, 700 NM, 3.9
The facelift uses the current 9 speed MCT box, AMG ride control suspension, AMG dynamics like the latest cars and even a 9 stage traction control like the GT R did! Inside we have AMG specific interior with today’s buck seats, and the LCD AMG dials to control driving settings too. Apart from the internals we also have the wide body with front and rear extensions on Arches - the only other AMG that did this is the AMG GT R, and the old C Black.
All of these things, are by and large the same tech as used in today’s cars. So this is not a car that’s due to age any time soon! Which is why this makes it such an ideal car to celebrate C63 with today. And an ideal one for us to buy to keep long term!

As an enormous AMG and C63 fan, I hope that Mercedes sells literally none of these because their marketing and sales division needs a kick in the teeth to push them back into the real world.
I mean I am so confused. Why name it C63?
It should be called a C0.63
Lol as a marketer myself, I would definitely blame the product division for this shit show. Marketers and sales take a product that has been pitched and have to formulate a go to market plan for said product. They were likely not too happy when they received the news that they'd have to market a car that's a literal downgrade from their previous generation.

Where I live, I usually see many C63/E63/S63s on the road just months after they've been released. Well, I've yet to see the new one. I'm sure I never will, and I actually hope I won't.
They still haven't even been released it in the US...curious to see what kind of lease deals they'll have to do to move them here.
If you live in the UK that is because it hasnt been properly released to customers yet due to production delays.
listen, that car is everything but a C63, maybe an EQS 63, or CLA 63, or you can even call it the C200-63, but not a C63. Officially Mercedes-AMG said they have finally changed the pronouns of the C63. The new c63 will be called Sis-63, and the coupe will be called Them-63. The convertible will be called trans-63. AMG CEO went on to say anyone who has a problem must buy older AMGs or just get the M3 quattro or an RS4 Xdrive. lol. @thrash1337 even if you see one down the road I highly doubt you will be turning down the volume to hear that Hyundai 4pack V8, lol.
From when mercedes continued to make fake exhausts despite consumer outrage, it should have been clear that consumer desires are not high on their agenda
Fake exhausts have got to be the worst modern car design trend. They look awful.

You know I was just as outraged about the fake exhaust until I think shmee or another blogger mentioned that the fake exhaust tips were for a practical reason….apparently if you are rear ended or if you back up into a curb or wall the exhaust would not push all the way up to your engine which could result in engine or manifold damage…
He might be wrong but it seems logical to me…

The w204 c63 has the best sound ever produced and is the most fun 4 seat coupe from benz and maybe of all time from anyone.
ngl i shed a tear once in a while when i think of what Mercedes has come to. Used to have posters of Mercedes AMGs all over my room as a kid dreaming about them. A dream turned into a nightmare...
The fact that this is a last V8 makes me want to get one even as a first car while I still can 😁 it’s been my absolute dream car since it came out, every time I see a w205 on a road I get so excited about it 👍

I really loved this video because you understand and express what c63 owners feel about this car . I am 45 and my c63s is inside in my garage and only goes out in summer or sunny days I am not buying any more personal cars I love my c63s Coupe and that’s is it …
i'm 46 and also have a 20 Coupe with 5700 miles. Not saving it for the next person so starting to drive everyday since I basically wasted my warranty and when it starts failing trust me It's all because of me enjoying it.

I still have my late father's 1999 CLK430 it's a V8 but of course not an AMG other than the wheels lol but since it was one of 4 cars for awhile it's only up to 17K miles. And my mom doesn't drive it and I am not always there to take it out for a drive. Got it fixed up recently so will be driving it on the weekends when I visit.

The 6.2L was the last true AMG imo. You can't put a turbo in an AMG and expect me to like it.
Agreed, I had a 2020 C205 C63S, in the US. The US version did NOT get the OPF.
It is one of the last hooligan AMGs, along with the W213 E63S.
They are excellent and I should not have sold mine (for a small profit during COVID, lol)

I have the prefacelift with downpipes and it sounds insane. Can’t think of a suitable replacement for this car, it just does everything so well
I have the same car as yours and I am going to keep it as future classic . Provably the only two cars i could consider are the new CLE 53 or a porche 911

I have a 2020 c63s Sedan.
I Put on some FI downpipes and a stage 2 tune from Eurocharged.
Car now pushes 670 hp on regular pump gas and sounds like a monster, all without ever touching the engine.
Only downside is that power is now no longer linear, but thats a necessary sacrifice in order to keep the car relevant against the new g82 bmw m4 which is insanely quick
What even makes the Mercedes decision crazy is that Ola kallenius Mercedes CEO was previously head of AMG.
The fact I own a e53 which I ain’t even a real amg and it has a larger engine then this is crazy to me. It’s a shame really but hey I love my half amg and it’s great plus the exhausts are real-ish
I respect that you acknowledge that 53s, along with the 43s and 35s are not real AMGs. They are all great cars, but Mercedes sure did get trigger happy with the AMG name.

Used finance 11-13% typically from a dealer. I'd love a real AMG, but not paying 10k or so interest.

Like I said, and I’ll say it again, the W206 has all the right stuff. New look. New interior. 4Matic+ to go RWD. Ditch the hybrid nonsense!! All it needed to complete the build was the M177 from the base GT63 with 577hp 590 torque. It would’ve been perfection.
I'd say detune it slightly to around 530 - 550hp so it doesn't compete directly with the GT63. It would still be a good competitor for the G80 M3/4.
@@CorleoneFam07 makes sense. I like what you’re thinking. But at the same time, that GT63 been out since 2019 and is due for an update. So it wouldn’t even matter since the new GT63 needs to come out anyway.

I bought a ‘17 c43 well specked - I saw similar specked c63s coupes when I was in the market to buy, but they were $20k more. Kinda wish I had the extra cash on-hand to have gotten one.
Amazing driving and sound experience from my (now sold) 2017 C63s Coupe. This exhaust on race mode was insane (and maybe OTT on open road to be honest)
They should have done a twin turbo I6 then. Would have softened the damage but… a C63 should only be a V8. The C43 or C53 could then be a I6.
I6 is for BMW. A C63 has a V8, nothing less.
The w204 has already aged better than the w205 wow 😮
not really i'd say the exterior styling hasn't aged well at all especially the rear has the ugliest cheapest looking lights
I had finally got my dream 205s coupe last August, only for some van tw#t to write it off 3.5 months later 😭😭😭😭. Had EVERY conceivable option you could tick, red/black interior. Now i cannot get insured on even a 3.0 v or straight 6 through being a non fault accident statistic. Beyond gutted as I'd grafted for 6 yrs to get to the price range. Now systematically removed from mine. And had to compromise down to a 1.8 petrol, 😭😭😭😭
i love my sep 2021 glc63s with exhaust valve module but might have to say goodbye soon. should i keep it.... decisions decisions

Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 coupe revealed: Gets 3.0-litre straight-six with 471 hp. The engine puts out 448hp and 560Nm and the ISG delivers an additional 23hp and 204Nm of torque under hard acceleration.
I loved that car and Think everyone agree that Mercedes should have made that the new c63s coupe however looking those numbers they are not close to the HP and Nm produce by my 63s stage 2 not opf . Provably they will make a CLE 63 even more powerful .

I've seen some W206 C43 for sale. But not a single C63, not even at near-death discount price. I think it received such a horrid reception not even dealers want to have anything to do with it. Meanwhile W205 C63s are everywhere.
The 2021 is going for about $70k here in California, I wish they were 1/3 of the original sticker like you said
Since the EU is rethinking the upcoming emissions rules (it would KILL auto manufacturing throughout Europe), maybe Mercedes will rethink the 4 cylinder. Porsche did it with the 718 Boxster & Cayman.

Traded my c63s coupe for a g80 m3 xdrive. Exhaust and tune is a ten sec car. Loving it so far
I hope Mercedes finds out that building a 4 cylinder 63S is the biggest mistake of their lives. And bring back the V8 as soon as possible. So far I haven't driven a new 63S. Hopefully this is a sign of "we made a mistake to our loyal customers who love V8.
I had one and sold it. It’s just too similar in looks to a c class despite the wide body. Traded it for an amg GTR. Way more special of a car in every way.
AMG GTC would be my dream car, but its twice the price of my C63S Estate sadly.
As an enthusiast so probably not the main AMG buyer. I've got the W204 and W205 currently. Been looking at the Alfa Romeo Giulia and that may the car going forward.

I havent seen 1 of the new ones at all! I live in Irvine there are amgs at every light.. nobody is buying.. I will never sell my c63s. The best best daily
MB did not have a choice due to emissions and drop the V8, but going to a 4 cylinder was just a step too far. They should of taken the M256 6 cylinder and offered a somewhat maybe slower car but well balanced with emotion. That would of been head to head with BMW - M3. Then again, AMG has been diluting and killing this brand since the introduction of the C43 in 2015. AMG sales results are what they deserve. It will be a huge challenge to turn this ship around now. After a few CLS63s cars, I have dropped the brand altogether. BTW, it’s ironic that this review is about the old being so much better than the new. LOL!

I buy one year ago a w205 c63s from FY2018, the last one without OPF, the last good one, with true sound from stock.
Overall I think It’s the best car I have ever owned.

I'm sure you have sponsorship reasons for covering new cars, but imo, you should cover more older cars now that everything is going hybrid/electric. Like, I want to see you go back and go through the old BMWs/Mercedes and talk about them again. New cars are interesting, especially for ad revenue I'm sure, but would be nice to hear your thoughts driving older cars again.
I have a 2020 c63s with the brabus b40 600 upgrade. Unfortunately living in the countryside I recently ploughed it in to two deer.😢

W204 maybe, but W205 isn't
W204 is becoming a classic, but the W205 is getting old and boring, even if it's a V8 I really think that this engine sound really bad and muted with the turbos

Its really sad what Mercedes did to the C63. This is a middle finger to the people who loved and supported the youthful C63. But again the CLK blackseries, 507, c63 blackseries are still available to buy, even though those previous AMGs are almost a decade old now. They are still perfect compares to that c63 badged EQS.
If we a talking true honest C63, it’s W204 with the 6.2 N/A M156. That is the true and Real C63, anything past is TURBO ASSISTED .
V8 biturbo don’t get me wrong great car but even that in my opinion should called C40 right if we’re rolling with displacement 🤷🏽♂️

Alfa just announced they’re likely going to do the same thing with the QV. Or even worse go full EV.
I don’t get it, especially for Alfa. The QV is not a volume seller so one would think they could hit their emissions goals with making everything else hybrid or EV but keep the QV a proper ICE car. BMW the big winner here as it plans to keep the M3 pure ICE until 2027.

he bought a final edition so facelift. It's much more quiet but the little upgrades make it a better car. I hope to upgrade someday to an LCI.

Yep I have a facelift. Downpipes removed the OPF. Sounds much crazier than a PFL.
Sold my C63s Coupe for a new Porsche GT4RS. Such a shame the V8 is no longer with us in the new C63 😢
Just my opinion, but I feel like 2018 w205C 63S was one of the best ones. It sounds way better then the 2022 model

Everything you said is true except for emotion. The 6.3 and 5.5 litter v8 engines had that pure emotion that the 4.4 and 4.0 litter v8 engines haven't. With all the OPF's, sound regulations and worst of all importantly the artificial sound coming from the interior is sickening. Lets look at it realistically. Back then you paid for a performance car with everything you hoped for, and now you get a "performance" car with mostly luxuries and with a AMG badge on it while you cannot utilize the full extent of your car because its limited with little to no things you hoped for a modern performance car.
The pre-facelift C63 doesn't have an OPF and the 4.0 engine in that sounds amazing. The option to have the exhaust in quiet mode or in full hooligan mode makes the car very practical for an everyday situation.
@@tubejorrit It didn't had an opf but it had artificial sound coming from the interior. So compared to the 2013 c63 and older generations, the pre-facelift wasn't "pure" performance
