This is technical. The MOST Technical I've heard SCV since ~ 2011-2012. Don't expect anything less under Rennick's Direction. If you know anything about him and his writing style, coupled with his Technicality, he's graced every Line that's been under him. Clean, Clean, CLEAN!

I encourage students to take the initiative and begin writing music. When a piece starts taking shape we have rehearsals where I talk primarily about the form and structure and give guidance about adjusting the composition. The student composers start to develop their voice, but you can sometimes hear the influence or variations on music they played during the summer. Here is a little history: 2006 (Dustin Doelling), 2009 (Josh Boychuk and Jonathan Leal), 2012 (Bayo Ajibade), 2013 (Aaron Fisher), 2015 (Peter Cannon),2016 (Bryce Gardner), 2017 (Bryce Gardner), 2021 (JT Baker),2022 (JT Baker). I am proud of all their work, and strongly encourage them to keep writing and go one to do great things.
I brought it into a DAW and it is literally phase perfect across all 6 drums, could be YT compression merging the sound within a margin of error, but regardless, I don’t think it gets acoustically cleaner than that.

It's not even close. SCV always has the best lines. In the age of bobble head drumming where everyone is "feeling it." I still love the lines that look uniform, and very technical. I bet they finish each other's sentences. All seriousness, there's something about the military precision that most lines don't do anymore. To me, that's the next level. When you can play that great, but still have the mirrored image discipline, that's what make you legendary. Cheers, SCV! 🍻

These guys just played the some of the choppiest stuff i've seen in a while with great touch and balance. I thought they would have been out for blood this summer and it seems only the corps folding could stop another Sanford.
Rennick's books always serve the music. Sometimes the most effective music might call for something simple. The thought that not writing a bunch of choppy nonsense somehow discredits the musicians playing it is laughable. There is a reason his percussionists have such a successful pedigree.

As a side note, I don't mean to take away from what other groups are doing. The members have no control over what the designers create for them to interpret. Pure drumming is what draws us in for sure. This is pure and real. No pretense. No antics. No acting. Pure. As an old experienced guy, I appreciate that and applaud your presentation. Marching the summer season isn’t as simple as it used to be. There are shareholders that are looking for a return on their investment. Instructors looking to get their pay for time invested. Support staff needed to make sure the performers are getting along in the right mind. Insurance and that stuff. It’s not like in the past where it all fell on the director. The summer music program is a big monster now. What always amazed me was how the battery was able to look so different season to season.
This is epic! Excellent job and the tuning is so warm and soft. I absolutely love the way it sounds. I’m so glad they were still able to put this together.

Dear lord, the cleanliness and precision exhibited here makes me miss my corps days. Unfortunately I’m now old and frail…lol. My days were the late 90s. And every year the lines just get better and better. This was absolute attention to detail. And that accelerando roll towards the end, it sounds simple enough….if it’s one drummer. But to do it in a line with such precision is mind blowing.

Must disagree with you on 'old school' snare sound. Real rim-shots are non-existent and the projection is muted. Sounds like they are playing on the snare-side head of the 'old school' snares. Never cared for these modern marching snare drums. Nothing but 'diddle' patterns in modern drum corps with single patterns so prolific in 'old school' playing curiously absent. It is like the modern marching snare design dictates the writing of the snare chart.
