    Admitting a mistake is not a sign of weakness, but a sign of humility. It shows an awareness of one's knowledge and the need to nurture that knowledge. Never apologize for your lack of knowledge to anyone other than yourself. Strive for the betterment of your knowledge, and the rest will fall into line. You inspire!

    I've said it before, I'll say it again. I like that the large majority of pre-cut log handling is now done by the equipment. That includes using the loader to load the log deck. After final cut handling isn't has dangerous, so no immediate need there. Nicely done.

    Number one young lady, be safe! Im glad your wearing the ear protection. I am 55 and did labor work all my life. I was around loud machinery alot and did NOT wear hearing protection and also was in a band in the 90's. I now suffer hearing loss and it stinks! Also, i would make an area around the saw where as if anyone is in that area, they have to wear it also. I gotta tell my wife about the coffee...that is exciting!!!😊

    When you mentioned that the hydraulic pump doubles its volume when the blade is running it made me wonder if the blade is powered by the hydraulics or direct drive from the diesel engine. It would make sense if it runs off of the hydraulics since it would take the potential strain off of the diesel when you run into hard spots in the log. Is this a correct assumption?
    As always, I enjoy every installment of your videos. I look forward to whatever you ladies are up to. I love the fact that you are not only working in what most people would consider a "man's job" you thrive in it. Thinking up new and different promo items on offer will definitely increase you brand recognition. Keep them coming.
    I look forward to your next episode. Keep making sawdust.

    • @scottsoper
      @scottsoper 7 месяцев назад

      The blade is run by belts off the engine. There is no worry about the hard spots because of the high torque of the diesel engine. It is the engine increasing rpm the turns the pump faster moving the oil faster: result 8gpm going to 14gpm.

    Hello Emerald and Jade I hope you are both enjoying the warmer weather. Emerald a couple of videos ago you mentioned the debarker fling stuff at you and while safety gasses may protect your eyes the rest of your face may suffer. So my suggestion is to get one of those clear plastic head mounted screens Nurses and Doctors were wearing during Covid, they tip up so you can wipe your face or drink coffee and they fit under the ear protection plus they give you better vision than safety glasses and your eyes wont sweat. Have a great week and I'll watch you next time🙂🌻🌻🧡

    Obviously you are gaining valuable experience on this bigger machine, but something you’ve had for a long time is the orientation of any log’s first cut position! This will in turn give you the best board/foot ratio and most profitable outcome! So we may/ may not see you tweaking the individual logs rotation point for the all important first cut!? Perhaps you could do a video on your eye/ positioning start point, that I assume must matter to a fair degree! I look forward in hopeful anticipation! Cheers

      They need time to get a good production system going. That may affect how they build the roof. For now they could take time to build a better temporary tarp system so they can be out of the rain. Also I think it may be good to get the operator's shack built.

    I bet that if you look carefully, you should find that there are flow control valves that can limit the flow rate to the various cylinders and actuators. They are usually located in the return lines from each cylinder back to the tank. They usually only reduce the flow in one direction. This way you get full force from the input side and control the speed on the exhaust side. Take a look or get your Gramps to take a look. This might reduce the chance of speed caused difficulties. You can also check with Wood Mizer. You can adjust the speed back when you find it is slow after your learning interval.

    Interesting. So is the blade driven by some kind of hydraulic turbine? I presume it also has some kind of electric generator for the controls?

    • @scottsoper
      @scottsoper 7 месяцев назад +2

      The Diesel engine drives the blade and a hydraulic pump. It also has an alternator, just like a car, to charge the starter battery and run the electronics. I don't know the precise way the clutch works on this mill. However it is not a "hydraulic turbine". It is likely a belt system connected to the engine. My John Deere had an electronic clutch that was connected to belts.

    That's a monster of a mill but I don't like that the blade enters from the far end. I want to see the blade coming up to and entering the log at the speed I want and not driving in to fast sniping the first few inches from not being able to judge from a distance. What is the reason they designed this mill for the reverse milling. Is it so you can leave the auto clutch engaged with the engine and blade screaming at the far end to be able to use the hydraulics faster without the mill head being just a couple feet from the remote station screaming?

    • @scottsoper
      @scottsoper 7 месяцев назад

      Did you watch Emerald's video on the control station she posted 7 days ago? "Control Station Switched to Other Side? Good or Bad?"
      It is my opinion that at the production level they are trying to achieve, the control station cannot be in the way of removing the lumber. Doing the cutting towards the operator is the best solution and then doing what it takes to minimize the problems of doing it that way. However the mill controls can be anywhere you want them to be.

    • @piratecat5649
      @piratecat5649 7 месяцев назад

      @scottsoper 10-4 Scott. By doing what it takes does that mean a second person at the far end guiding or perhaps a camera mounted with a screen at the station. And by putting the control station at the other end so you could see the action wouldn't that be the same setup as the 40 is. Maybe I'm accustomed to my 40. I definately would not want the autoclutch engaged with everything turning at speed a couple feet in front of me while I used the hydraulics . Seems like this is a two person mill and not much time would be saved if you were milling alone with a much bigger chance of damage or injury. Just my opinion.

    • @scottsoper
      @scottsoper 7 месяцев назад

      I am not a sawyer, however I believe that what you should get depends on what you are doing and your pocket book. There is no question that the LT-70 is a better machine than the LT-50. More HP, bigger blade wheels, longer heaver blade, more things are hydraulic instead of electric and if you are doing this as a business then the production will be a lot higher. I am assuming that business production is what you need and that you need a portable unit or like LCLY, you don't have or want to use electricity. If you are a single person operation then you would put the controls on the end that the boards end up on if you have to stack each board as it comes off the mill. If I were doing it by myself, I would still get the live log deck and the sawdust conveyor if I were not actually moving around. These are my opinions based on my understanding of machinery, motion studies and from watching people mill lumber on RUclips. I would also consider a transfer table and a long green chain so that I could concentrate on running the mill and then stacking and sorting the lumber. I would also get a longer live deck. The goal would be to run a couple hours and then reload the live deck and stack the lumber from the green chain.

    What's the maximum diameter log you can cut on that mill?

    How big of a fuel tank does it have, based on the consumption you mentioned you would need a large amount of fuel.

    The mill is computer controled, program the blade to come on and off when you want it to on it;s own. Would make your job easier and less stress on the mill, you would save on gas too.

      This mill is made to run full blast. The blade should stay engaged while running this mill. However if you are going to step away from the controls, you should shut the whole thing down.

    I don't know the LT70, but you might want to call Wood Mizer and see if you can tune down the hydraulics while you are learning. No doubt you will be up to full speed soon.
