Ive been sewing for around 18 years now. But being self taught on thrift store machines means I never even knew some of these parts are removable until now. You may have just saved me the cost of buying a new machine. And taught me what to fix on the ones I put into storage when they started causing problems. You're a life saver

If you have an older machine, there are 4 or 5 places that should be oiled. However, the most important thing is to remove the lint as shown and make sure that your needle is good and the correct one for your project. I learned how to sew over 50 years ago when both sewing machines and typewriters were cleaned on a weekly basis and expected to last a lifetime. My favorite machine is a heavy duty one purchased in 1973 which I still use today!

Thank you so much!! My machine was making a terrible sound and oiling the bobbin area didn't help. Oiling the piston did the trick and this is the only video I've seen that shows that! Saved me!

Thank you , I just bought a cheap second hand machine and followed your instructions , it was jammed up with fluff and sounding a bit rough but after the clean and oil it is sewing beautifully 😀

Another thank you to add to your collection for this video. Same story here. Inherited a Dresmaker SWA-2000. Like others took the bobbin shuttle race assembly apart & cleaned out a bunch of lint and gunk. Couldn't figure out how to put it back together, even though I was looking at their manual. Turned to YT and found your video. Within seconds, I saw what the instructions had left out! With that bit of info, everything when back into place perfectly. THANK YOU!

Thank you so much. it went back together like a dream, nice clean and well oiled.

Thank you for this informative tutorial. My Janome is very similar to the model in your tutorial but the user manual for my machine makes no mention at all of cleaning and oiling. Keep up your simple and easy to understand instructions. I think they are very helpful, especially for those who do not have English as their first language.

😅 I recently got my first sewing machine and I removed the shuttle part completely - I did it without even looking at the instructions and I was genuinely concerned that I had broken the machine because I just couldn't get it back into the slot that it came out of and it was slipping around in my hands with old oil on it lol
I am going to oil the machine properly now that I know how to put it back together if I remove the wrong thing 🤣😅

Me too. My machine started making a massive clunking sound the other day. I took the top casing off and did the oil like in the video but I also dropped a bit of oil on ALL the moving parts up there. Just keep hand turning to see where they all are. It did the trick. I'm in UK and I'm sewing non stop all day long. Stay safe.

I am making the scrub caps for hospital. My sewing machine is stuck. The problem is there is no sewing machine oil easy to get. So I did some research and found out that it’s same thing as the mineral oil except it is more expensive. I used soda straws to apply this oil to my machine: www.walmart.com/ip/Equate-Mineral-Oil-Lubricant-Laxative-16oz-Count-1/44807472
It is food grade. Hope it helps, stay safe!

You also show where the oil goes for the bobbin assembly, the manual was too ambiguous. An arrow point into mid air was what the diagram looked like to me. I agree with another peron that showing how to reassemble the machine would be helpful. I also liked the idea of keeping the screws in the faceplate.
