Ive just started using my new Singer Sewing Machine 4423. I had no idea the machine needed oil 😮. Thank god I found your Chanel 😊 - I threw my last machine out most likely because I never used oil.
Oh my, things have changed! Who'd have known a wick is what they use these days! Thank you for the tute. I've just cleaned and oiled it AND I don't have to struggle with threading it now either.
BEST maintenance video using Singer Heavy Duty 4452. Visually clear, perfect close up, well spoken and understandable directions. It is such a huge relief to find this video (and I've seen many). Bookmark this one! Good job, thank you!
I could never find this information in the manual that Singer has a new purchaser download for reference. Thank you for the information. I just subscribed so keep them coming.
Hi there and thanks for making this video. I dug a bit and found that there are two felt bushings up top, and two below in the drive linkage that need to also be maintained. Also there are multiple pivot points above the needle that need oil also. Pretty much everywhere moving parts touch. Just wanted to make sure that you don't wear out points of your machine not knowing that there was a way to preserve them. Thanks a bunch for making videos for all of us!!! My best, -Nigel
Thanks to you Nigel, for this insightful and helpful comment. Removing the bottom plaastic areas (just about 8 screws) reveals the areas that are greased, need to be greased, and the two felt bushings that you refer to. Honestly, you should do a video of it and monetize it. Very helpful. Though my machine is NEW, I oiled it up properly and she's now 80% quieter to my surprise. One thing: there is a plastic cam/ gear combo on the right back top of the machine that works with the feed dogs. This looks like it needs maintenance. But that will require removing the whole top casing I think. Another day......
I've followed the instructions to oil my singer 4452 machine. I have replaced the bobbin house leaving it a bit loose for the thread to pass through but now my machine won't work properly. The thread seems to catch and I can't get it to stitch now.
Question!! Does the upper part need oiling as well? I can clearly hear the piston complaining if I use the machine very slowly. At normal speed I wouldn’t hear it, but… 👀
Yes! You can and should also oil the needle bar. You have to remove the upper cover from the side. (Screw is near the thread cutter.) then add a few drops the the solid bar that runs vertically. It should help!
Heyy, thank you for this video I didn't get my machine brand new and I just noticed there's no wick in there, what can I put in there or should I just oil it that way? Thank you 😊
My machine locks up several times. The wheel is hard to turn and it basically unable to sew. When That happens, I take the plate out and the bobbin housing out, double check it but it keeps locking up. What can I do?
What about the felt pads underneath the machine when you take the bottom off? There are also 2 places to oil at the top but you have to take the case off. The only person I’ve seen do this broke one of the clips. I was hoping you’d show us how to do that without snapping the clip.
Hey Bob, not sure what part you mean, but if it's the last thread guide before the thread goes into the needle, you might be able to add on a bit of floral wire wrapped around the remaining piece to complete the guide bar.
Great video. More than likely I need to oil my machine. Been about two years now since I purchased this machine. With sewing a lot of flannel it is sure to need oiling. Those screws where the bobbin housing is extremely tight and can't undo with key provided with machine. Any suggestions? Tx 4 in advance
You might be able to get the bobbin housing out without removing the arm. I have a few of these machines but can't seem to get any of them to let it loose without unscrewing the guide arm. If you still can't, I would just continue to gently try and get them worked loose so you can get in there.
Hi Stacy good video on the needle threader. I have 4432…How do you get the top and back off this machine. The two screws on top come out and only one on back but top will not come off! Help please. Thanks!
The plastic that the machine is made of has a bit of a 'clip' if you will to it. So once it's unscrewed, it doesn't just come off, you do need a small amount of force to pull it off.
Ummm, my 4423 doesn’t have a wick… at least not one I can get to through the hole under the bobbin case - is there any chance it’s different cause it’s a different model or is something wrong?
They say that these machines come “oiled for life” but that’s only if you use it like once a year, and even then, it will eventually get gummy. So silly!
Most manufacturers will say not to because the bobbin housing is plastic and any metal burs or imperfections can/could damage the bobbin housing. I have found that if you just buy good metal bobbins, that shouldn't be the case. Also, if you start using metal, you should only use metal. You should not go back and fourth between plastic and metal.
What model of the Singer sewing machine are you using? I noticed you use metal bobbins with that. How come Singer advised me to only use plastic class 15 bobbins and not metal.
Singer 4452. I only use metal. Once your bobbin housing becomes accustomed to the shape of your bobbins, you cannot switch. More on the great bobbin debate later.
Depends on how often you are using your machine. I sew professionally so I sew many hours a day every day and check my oil about once a month. Always check to see if it needs it before just adding it.
@SewingWithStacey Hi. So, I'm hoping I can get an opinion on something... I have a store bought weighted blanket with the the little glass beads inside. I'm wondering if you think it would be a bad idea to sew through it. Idk if it would damage my sewing machine if the needle came straight down on any of the little beads. It's pretty much brand new, and I hated the thought of throwing it away. I've been trying to find someone to take the thing, but nobody wants it. Probably about the 25th time moving the thing from one spot to another, I started thinking maybe I could make a few door sweep, draft blocker dealies out of it. But now I'm just sitting here staring at it, worried it might jam my machine. Idk... Just hoping I can get an opinion or two before I have at it. Thanks in advance
Hey, great question. So I make a lot of heated corn bags. What I usually have to do is make small compartments and pin back the corn to make sure I don’t hit any kernels with the needle. For your project, I would not advise putting that through the machine unless you can safely clear away all the glass beads in are for sure only sewing through fabric. If the needle comes down on one of those glass beads, it could shatter the needle or worse.
I accidentally pushed the wick for the oil further down its opening and now I can't get to it with tweezers. Do I have to get it from the bottom of the machine by disassembling it or is there another way to retrieve it?
Unfortunately that's not enough info to really give a great answer but I would check out my troubleshooting tips video for some help. It might get you back on track!
No worries, sometimes you can move the flywheel by hand until the hook race is at the back and the bobbin housing will lift out. So turn the fly wheel by hand and gently lift the bobbin housing until it comes free.
That is not how sewing machine service techs oil the 4452. Black oil is a sign of metal wear which means the lubricant being used is not protecting the metal.
@@sewingwithstacy I tried to find out about oiling after use and could not find anything from singer, so I appreciate this so much. I regularly oiled by old machine, and my mother's 301 which is still working after 66 years .

Thank you for this video too. Just saw how to clean your sewing machine. I will be cleaning my sister's machine this week. 🤞
You are so welcome! Have fun!
Good visual of TWO drops only onto the center wick. Stable video.
thanks!
Ah, hell- I've been using the threading aid the hard way! That wasn't what I came here looking for, but muchos ThankYous for the tip : )

Singer should link to your video to show how to use the needle threader !
Too kind!
Thank you for such a clear concise demonstration.

Thanks a million stacey, god bless you
Thank you too
YES I JUST DID IT!
Thank you so much for a very detailed tutorial
Glad it helped!
Hi, thank you for sharing this video. It is helpful, I was wondering if I can oil the machine without taking the arm off?
As long as you can get to the wick, you can oil it!
Thanks for showing me the auto needle threader. I never knew what purpose it served until kno
No problem!

best thing to try is unthreading and rethreading completely.
@@sewingwithstacyOmg that worked! Thank you!
It is more important to oil the needle bar and it's linkage.
Yes it’s all important really

You should be able to order a replacement online. I wouldn’t suggest using an alternative.
My machine locks up several times. The wheel is hard to turn and it basically unable to sew.

Have you ever done a thorough cleaning of your machine? You might have threads caught up underneath that could be holding up your machine.
What about the felt pads underneath the machine when you take the bottom off? There are also 2 places to oil at the top but you have to take the case off. The only person I’ve seen do this broke one of the clips. I was hoping you’d show us how to do that without snapping the clip.

Hello Stacey, my 4432 is stuck on backwards. Do you have any suggestions?
Nowhere in my maual for the 9340 Singer sewing machine does it say to oil it! Crazy!

I've been told not to use a medal bobbin? What kind are you using ? I have the exact same machine!

4452 machine doesn't need oiling upper portion? Just at bobbin?
Yes you can oil the upper but not nearly as frequently as the lower as the lower builds up lint and sucks up more oil.

No worries! Just let it be. Odds are that you didn't push it down too far and with normal use, it will work its way back up on its own.
Thank u so much!

Can the sewing oil be substituted
Only use machine oil in your machine. I would not recommend using anything else as it could damage the machinery.

you have to remove your upper machine cover and add oil to the uptake bar.

Fumbled the little screw while trying to put the little plate back on and it fell down into the bottom. What a hassle.

@@sewingwithstacy Good idea!
