The 'handgunBox' is in Boneworks Update 1.4 available now! I talk with Chris about the design of the course.

@@HairyHog77 Yeah, I agree. Open outdoor environments are awesome, something that was really lacking in Boneworks, most of the time I felt really enclosed playing through the story.

I was actually hoping Tuscany would have its own arena survival option, would be a cool environment for it
I'm an entry level dev in VR. Honestly, to see how you guys have developed over the years has really inspired me to push myself. Can't wait to see what you do next for the genre.
How did you get started learning? I just got access to unity pro through the student pack thing and have no idea where to start but would like to pursue vr development
@@BlasterTheMaster Check out Unity Learn, they're offering many of their tutorials for free during the pandemic.
@@BlasterTheMaster tutorials man. Follow one where they make a full game(nothing crazy, but still a game) You may not make something original. But you have your own game and you have learned how to use unity. That's a super great feeling! And it gets you hooked!
also just copy paste retype a tuturial from like brackeys and try to change some things to make it your own that makes you learn alot

Add more of these trails they are so fun. Or even add a level editor. But I don’t think the editor in VR would be good. Like a desperate steam application Boneworks Level Creator
I think something like a Boneworks workshop would be really great!

Boneworks is build on Unity. They could technically set up a template project for creating Boneworks content and you could use the matching Unity editor version to build content for it.
If you're asking for mod support, you may as well just ask them to make another game, because that's how much additional work it takes.
@ITNoetic Not nescessarily, they’re just asking for a level editor, and considering it’s built on Unity, like Clavus said, it shouldn’t be too difficult to make a template or similar. Most of the work is already there in Unity, if it was built on a unique engine, yeah, making a user friendly editor would be very hard, but Unity is much simpler to make stuff like that for.
But yes, mod support would be awesome, it’s what keeps many games alive.

Next, you should add something similar to the pistol time trials but instead of trying to get through the environment as fast as possible, you try to stealth your way through the level, taking out nullmen one-by-one without being seen.
Edit: After 3 weeks of trying I was finally able to beat the score set in this video with a time of 1m 36.69s
Sounds extremely boring
The sound should be important, you cant just assasinate someone with a gun, must be melee all the way
@@exaltx9406 Yeah , for sure. The melee in boneworks is super satisfying and in my opinion, much more fun to kill with than any firearm. A mode taking advantage of the incredible fighting mechanics would for sure be a welcome addition.
We need a silenced pistol or even assault rifle
They should add the duck season shotgun instead.

That sounds like a nightmare with how bouncy and unprecise boneworks movement is
@@arathertallglassofwater1864 imprecise, but also I've never had a problem with it, I love the climbing in boneworks games and they've apparently improved it further in this update.
@@twistedfox9445 I just don't like how the running works, the climbing is fine, but I'm not a fan of how you have to accelerate and sometimes start off in a slightly skewed direction. Usually isn't a problem but it's really apparent in that part in the handgun trial where you have to jump across those small platforms.

Holy shit, this was SO much fun, this is what the fight/action scenes in the main game should have been like! I wish more vr games had crazy over-the-top gunfights like this, because even though stuff like the realistic combine fights in Alyx are cool, its just so much funner running around ziplining and shit.
At 7:42 when he accidentally removes the mag that he just put in... I felt that...
That and pulling out a mag on accident while trying to pull out a weapon from your left side.
This is a rad video, this behind-the-scenes sort of interview was compelling and interesting.

You should add a body physics update
When you climb: your legs are moving
When you shoot something in the leg: they limp
You can break necks
Wherever your shoots it effects your targets movement
So if your shoot fords leg: he will limp
New items:
Spray can: make art
Grappling gun
Brass knuckles
Shotgun
New gun of any kind
Any new sandboxes
New arena maps
I think this would be an epic update
Maybe not the climbing stuff, since things like that are probably pretty hard to do, but i fully agree on the items section
a grappling hook in this game would be so fun

7:06 - TIL you can shoot the button to activate them. Holy shit you guys thought of so much.
There's a button in the main game that you're "supposed" to do a whole puzzle to press. Saw a speedrunner just shoot it on his way and was like "oh my god, OF COURSE you can do that."
It's not like they spent time on thinking about things players might do, or thinking about specific object interactions, no, they didn't waste their time like that. They did something better. They created an ultimate system that handles everything, a system that correctly identifies results of any kind of action. For example, button needs pressure to be activated, and bullet has pressure, so it activates the button when hit. ANYTHING you can imagine works in Boneworks.
Why did I never try that.... I've pitched crt monitors at buttons.... of course shooting them works 😅
I've been shooting buttons ever since in the sandboxes. When I need ammo, I'd just dump a mag of MP5 on the ammo dispenser button and have hundreds of rounds then.
the parts chris designed were some of my favorite, that guy is awesome at what he does

Your backgrounds is what makes boneworks so different and amazing its awesome and it's nice to play a game that doesn't need 40 updates everyday to work right haha thank you so much

This is my new favorite part of the game. Absolutely loved it and would like more time trials in the future. Especially with things like the “zip line” at the end.
I just finished the story mode for Boneworks a few minutes ago. I gotta say, it left me with more questions than answers, but I loved it all the same. As a Videogame programming student, and one who wants to work with VR at that, I take so much inspiration from what you and the rest of SLZ are doing. 10/10 for sure.
I completely missed the literal writing on the wall in the first level and that explained alot of it for me.
I loved how this update just unfolded. It was like a bonus level with everything I had looked forward to. You could really tell that you know how you wanted the level to be and knew how to do it.
I really like how you can tell how passionate Brandon is with this project after being in development for over 2/3 years.
These will be the first maps of what will become the Oasis ❤️

This update is so awesome. Love the new gun, and going through the new content kept me playing for 3 hours straight!

I would like to see in 1.5
1. More weapons (including shotguns, launchers, grenades and sniper rifles)
2. More enemies (omni-ish units for example)
3. Friendly NPCs (that actually do something)

Been watching FreddieW since Jedi A-Holes, jumped to Node and followed Corridor, Brandon and all of them from basically the start. It's really rad to have seen you guys achieve stuff in real time, this has been the greatest 9 year documentary I've ever seen!

Add the sandpit from VGHS, I always thought it would be cool to try that run that from the show. What better way than in vr where people could actually throw the tomahawk like in the show. I know you guys broke up but brandon was still working on vghs when they did the sand pit run, I think. It would be cool.

The handgun course's crowbar zipline was an awesome moment in an already great level. I really hope SL0 can add more content like this to Boneworks.

Brandon.. Super impressed with what you and your very talented team pulled off with this VR title. Got many hours logged into the game myself and I cant even describe how amazing the game is! I know it was well established that multiplayer was beyond the scope of Boneworks but all im saying is if it were possible to somehow do a title like this with the level of interactivity that this game offers that would be a hit in my opinion hehehe....

I was reminiscing about Modern Warfare's SAS trial course. That shit was sick. I think there was another one in MW2, but the first definitely held a special place in my heart

Once you've played through the Handgun Box completely, I notice that there is a button which teleports you to the time trial course with the Omni-Projectors, but there seems to be no way of getting to the actual GUN RANGE. I think you should add a button next to the other one that teleports you to the shooting range so people can have access to that part of the map after finishing the entire map.
I just went through it and there is a way. Once you have finished the time trial, go through the double doors right after you get the node for Tuscany and keep going. It will take you back to the start of the handgun box and the gun range will be unlocked

In these last two videos, you showed off a lot more of the game under the hood in Unity! Would you ever consider giving a project overview video showing the sort of structure and scene techniques you guys used for your scenes in the game? The amount of Gizmos present looks very interesting! For future VR developers, that kind of information could be very valuable!

Will shotguns be added to the game? I like the set up of weapons we have now and the fact that a gun has been added is promising. But more 2 handed weapons (like shotguns, or bolt action rifles) would be really neat.
More gun trials would be cool, in outdoor environments

We need a Dungeons & Dragons inspired VR game. We just need a few unit types to start: human, little goblins, big orcs, maybe some boar and wolves. The Dungeon Master would play entirely through a PC, not through VR. They'd have a map editor and the ability to place units, write text, control NPCs from mouse and keyboard. From their PC they'd have a DM console that overlooks everything. The players would be in VR and would do combat.
Wouldn't even need to be too expansive at release. Would just be really fun to go on a few "We need you to kill this tribe of orcs" quests with the boys in VR

Just watched the 10 years of corridor video and thought it would be cool if you made a studio #3 map for Boneworks!
Literally as I was playing through this section I was like hey this reminds me a lot of COD 4 modernwarfare damn, you guys did a good job making it seem like that without it even being remotely close to it in visuals
I have some ideas for BoneWorks. First of all, revolvers and shotguns, they would be Amazing for BoneWorks. I also think that you should be able to change your character after the you beat the game. You would be able to stay Ford, but you could change your outfit instead of the weird tight suit. I also think that it would be Awesome to add another level. A new Fantasy land level, it would be much like Tuscany where your in a grassy field, but instead maybe you travel to the castle into the dungeon, that part is up to y'all. Although I doubt you should.

I hope you also made it so you sprint by pressing the pad of the vive controllers instead having to double click, wait for your momentum to stop just to then start the momentum again and start sprinting. This change would make it more practical and intuitive.
