Thanks for your comments and for watching. You are correct, 6AN hose and fittings for the pressure line. Just ensure you use 490 series hose due to the pressures. Hoses ain’t hoses as they say..

I teach students about all these lovely things as well as relays and I can honestly say your explanation was A++ could not have explained it better if I had tried. Well Done. Credit is given when credit is due. Also big thank you for the quick tutorial on how to wire the Astra pump. What size fuse did you use for the rely if you do not mind me asking.

Had an astra PS pump to do this mod but sold it to stay with the overhauled manual
steering box. All seemed a bit too hard at the time.
Do you get the heavy steering issue when steering quickly , apparently the can bus wires can regulate how much torque is applied , this seams to be a major issue for many people using the astra or volvo pump , heavy steering when fast use lock to lock .
Hi mate, I used a power steering pump from the early TS Astra which does not have CAN. I have also used the Astra spec LDAS fluid to prevent cavitation causing the heavy steering which is common when using Dex 3 fluid. I have not experienced heavy steering, but to be fair, the car has only had about 100kms of shake down driving and not track work. In car parks it’s fine. Should be registered and on the road in a couple of weeks.
Wiring harnesses are tricky. Be sure to keep side cutters away from them.

Hi mate thanks for watching. I’m using Penrite LDAS fluid. Dex3 cavitates too much in the pump when it gets hot causing the assistance to cut out. Cheers Mark

Hi, What size wiring did you use for the astra pump?
Hi, welcome and thanks for watching. I used 8 gauge wire for the power and earth to the pump as they have an 80A fuse from factory, the trigger wires were just 14 gauge wire.
Could you have triggered the astra off of the fuel pump relay?

I didn't trigger it that way for a couple of reasons. The first is that I am running a fuel pump controller that primes the fuel system by running the pump for 3 seconds at ignition on, so the 2 control wires for the Astra Power Steering pump would receive voltage at the same time, making it spool up slowly.
The second reason is that the fuel pump controller is triggered by a tachometric signal so even if it didn't have the prime function, it would only give me steering assist when the engine was running. I wanted the power assist at ignition on, engine off.
You could certainly trigger it the way you suggested if you don't have a fuel pump controller and want power assist only with the engine running.

I may have missed something,you didn't use an original Pump.
The original engine driven pumps and high pressure lines are notorious for power steering fluid leaks especially when cooked by extractors. The pump I used is out of a TS Astra 1998 - 2002. Mounting it behind the guard with the hose feeding directly into the steering box should hopefully solve that issue…
