  • The basics you need to know to put a astra electric power steering pump in your car.
    Pump size 28x22x14cm
    Wiring:
    Big brown - ground
    Big red - power (use 70 amp breaker)
    Little brown - not used
    Little black - ignition power, switched
    Little blue - switched power, best to wire to get power just after the little black, this will turn the pump on faster. (factory off alt charge light)
    High pressure bump tube to -6 fitting off pump, m16 x 1.5, Raceworks rwf-741-06ss
    Use LDAS fluid in pump
    Nissan rack fittings, m16 x 1.5 low pressure, m14 x1.5 high pressure
    FC Rack fittings, m16 x 1.5, Raceworks rwf-741-06ss
    Use PTFE line for the high pressure
    Push lock rubber line for low pressure

    I used Astra/Zafira pump in a CRX a decade ago, I've learned couple of things back then. If you daily your car do not connect both wires to ignition, you'll have like 10 seconds with no power steering as the pump slowly ramps up the speed. When you connect the alternator wire it jumps into action instantly. Added benefit is that it will shut down if you ever loose alternator giving you bit more reserve power. Also do not mount it on a firewall and definitely not just with a rubber washer as you'll hear the loud pump whine all the time. Other thing is not running the reservoir half empty as the pump itself is inside it and top of it would be dry. I think this is what seized my 1st pump. Not mentioned in the video, but maybe it's just obvious is that you can loosen that large clamp and rotate the reservoir to point the return line in a direction you want. also I recall I've measured less than 10 A draw at idle and up to 30-40 A peaks when turning tires at standstill. I bet it may vary from car to car.

    Great video, but im having an issue where when the steering is heavy and i turn, it is a bit slow to react to turn the pressure up. I have a cooler and temps aren't hot, i have good wiring and big alternator.
    I wish it was quicker to react or there was a was to keep it on higher pressure.

    Looks great, just a couple of questions for my street car...
    1. Do they run noticeably loud?
    2. How's the return to center on your steering wheel when travelling?

    • @LogansSpeedShop
      @LogansSpeedShop  8 месяцев назад

      Return is purely set from caster and toe so doesn’t effect it

    • @robc1014
      @robc1014 9 месяцев назад

      You’d need to control the voltage to the pump through some kind of variable resistor. The higher the voltage the faster the pump with pump increasing the pressure in the system. Assuming you’re doing this to alter the feel of the system.

      as there's no belt driven pump also less rotating mass on engine for better response, which also means better fuel economy as the electric pump is more efficient. Plus, you can make variable-assistance steering so heavy or light when you want.
