    Hey Bob, I have same mower same engine. I can turn my engine to where both valves are closed...and then another full revolution and intake still stays closed but exhaust is now open. Then another full revolution and then intake is now open and exhaust is now closed.
    Is there a problem with this or is this normal? Also should we find TDC when adjusting each valve? And last....my engine is cold
    Can you please help me out? I tried it like I taking your video and its popping and cracking coming in and out of running on both cylinders or 1

    Yep, don’t set valves when engine is warm. You can determine top dead center by putting screwdriver in spark plug hole and watching it. Motors are electric, engines are gas.

    You may want to check your service manual. Valve lash should never be set while the engine is warm. They should also be set at TDC. That takes away the possibility of having the valve on the decompression release.

    Why aren’t you setting both valves on the compression stroke?

    Bro set both valves .4 thousands the valves open up sooner less cranking I did mine on my v twin Brigs & Stratton John Deere 20 hp it wood take 6 times 4 the moter to start now 3 times fire right up runs like new

    Check the clearance before you loosen the adjustment bolts and nuts. They may be within spec already.

    I have a question...if an engine has hydraulic valve lifters do you need to adjust the valves?

    I have a fx801v which i was told i can make this a 850v simply with 30-40$ parts any ideas??

      You can. There are 2 ways to do it. 1) Just replace the Throttle Shaft (~$35) PN:160410029. 2) The shaft comes with a throttle stop disk machines on the end of it, you can use a Dremell tool and grind down the stop disk ~1/4" on the outside There is a point on the stop that indicates where full throttle is. The 801v is stopped at 80%. The 850v is stopped at 100%. That is the only difference in the 2 engines.

      @@1987timevans The Revs are the same so the Governor will still keep the throttle at a less than max position but when the engine starts to bog down the Governor will then call for more throttle and the 801 stops at 75% but the 850 allows 100% throttle and access to more horsepower. BEST MOD YOU CAN MAKE TO A 752 or 801.
