    Thanks for sharing your knowledge. My clutch on my Gravely 460 has been shutting off after 10-15 minutes of mowing for the last few months. It finally quit all together a few days ago. Between this video and the one on testing a clutch and a few other YTubers I was able to determine that the air gap was over .025" I tightened it up to .020" and it works like new! Saved me over $500. Thanks again

    Dude, thank you so much. My wife and I were gifted a Honda lawn tractor from her family. It's an older tractor but in great shape, but one problem I've encountered is that it's hard to find info about fixing it or maintaining it. I have a shop guide that described shimming these things when servicing them, and mine clearly needs service because I could see a fairly substantial gap when operating the lever with the engine off, and no doubt the clutch wasn't making enough contact to send drive power to the belt. But not being much of an expert when it comes to automotive or machinery repairs, reading the service manual's instructions made the process sound so much more complicated to me.
    Now, thanks to this simple explanation of the how and why of the process, I will have no trouble at all applying these instructions to my Honda's PTO clutch, using the shim gap specs from the service manual to get it just right.
    To me, this is one of those great videos that really, really made my life better. You rock!

    Checked out your video and decided to try this. Worked out great! I have a 2010 Husqvarna RZ2454 with the 24hp kohler engine. With an OGURA pto. Took it off and adjusted the pto with a fueler gauge to .015 and worked out awesome. Beats buying a new one. We have a mower dealer here in Minnesota selling a pto for $225. Found one on Amazon for $130 took it off and tested the ohms which read 3.5 ohms so it was still good. Now I'm sitting pretty with ah fresh cut smell of grass in the PM lol. @@garyhadden5681 if they don't have the 3 nuts then they are non adjustable. I would start by testing your battery 1st, not just to make sure it's 12.6+ volts, but also that it has good amperage under load. And also check your charging system (13-15v while the engine is running at full rpm). Your electric PTO relies on a strong electric system. I've had mowers come in and customers want new PTO clutches installed for $500 and all they needed was a new battery. Good luck!

    If it is still making noise when spinning but you're well above the gap range do you make it looser still or tighten it down to specks and just let it rub?

  • @timothyconnecticut1910
    @timothyconnecticut1910 Год назад

    Just like a spark plug gap , it makes sense to have the gap set at the least gap. This is because as the material wears away , the gap gets larger. So therefore the set gap stays in spec longer if started at the smaller end of the scale.

    Thanks for the great video. I have two old troy bilt gtx 16 and 18. The 16 has a warner, the 18 ogura. I recently worked on both engines and adjusted the pto to specs. That was before I watched your vid but the specs I had were the same. On both of them when I got it to the correct air gap, I noticed that the pulleys were rubbing on the housing. I rechecked the gap and it was spot on. I was concerned about it because before I adjusted it, it spun free without resistance. I bought this up on a tractor forum that I belong to and those who replied said it was normal for it to rub the housing when disengaged. A couple people said that acts as a brake to stop the implements. Does this sound right to you? In any event both ptos work great right now. Also, before the adjustment they were way off as shown in your vid. Thanks again.

    • @EliminatorPerformance
      @EliminatorPerformance  2 года назад +1

      It depends, rubbing can indicate that the pto plate is warped from heat or use over time, also could mean it's out of adjustment. They have their own brake yes, and when disengaged it will contact the pad. What I'm referring too is, if you're making the adjustment, and set the clutch to the proper gap, and notice it's quite hard to spin because something is binding up, then you might want to go with a bit more gap. They can warp over time and when you disengage a warped clutch that's set too tight it could cause significant damage.

    Not sure where the specs are from, but I adjusted the Ogura clutch on my Husqvarna with 26 hp to the 0.019 recommended in video. It was too close, and engaging clutch would kill the engine. I had to back off bolts and increase gap until the mower would operate normally. I need to check the gap to see what it is now, but the 0.019 was too close.

    I just purchased a new to me Bolens 5019h harden tractor with a 2 stage blower. Owner stated he recently replaced the clutch and it looks brand new. Issue is when I shut off the blower it will coast for a good minute before it finally stops. It sometimes sound like I never turned it off but it does eventually stop. I am guessing my gap is too tight? Manual online states .015 is gap and my clutch has 4 bolts. I see two windows to check gap and it looks tight. Is this bad for the clutch or just unsafe? Do you think he assembled it wrong?

Put them on my clutch but didn't know about adjusting it so I just tightened it till it was tight then loosened it till it spun it with no noise. Went out and noticed it seemed to be slipping and bogging down the engine. Should I just adjust it with feeler guages or just throw a new clutch on?

    Wonder what you are supposed to do if you have a Ogura clutch on a 25 hp?

    ,would this be the reason why once my blades stop from reversing, they do not want to start up again..or after running for about 20 mins?

    I was cutting the grass on my John Deere la145 and the blades suddenly stopped. I can hear the pto trying to engage and i can even see the belt slowly turning the blades. Do you think it's an adjustment or a bad pto altogether? I appreciate the help

    I have a 2008 simplicity broadmoor 20 hp. The problem I am having is that when I get into thick grass the blades are slowing down. the motor rpm is not changing and the belts are not slipping. I beleive the problem is that the clutch seems to be slipping under load. How can I fix this

    I have a 2012 toro timecutter 3200 when I pull the PTO switch it just squeals sometimes and don't work or it squeals for a bit then kicks on. Does it need ajustment or replaced.

      Try an adjustment if you can, the brake may be engaging because the plate is too far away. If you see the springs, you'll know you can adjust it

    I have a new Pto clutch and when I installed it per the instructions for the xtreme pto clutch the motor has resistance and does not want to turn over. could the adjustment be off fro. the factory? And on a 265 is it supposed to have a spacer in between the drive pulley and the pto? my old pto fell off and broke. I didn't see a spacer on the ground but maybe that's my problem.

      There's usually a spacer in between the engine and the PTO clutch, and extreme sometimes also use a washer that is needed. I called them because I had doubts (it didn't seem like much surface area) but they assured me that's how it was designed to be run. Absolutely no issues on the one I installed here: ruclips.net/video/lb_deDPQYt0/видео.html
