Very cool! Nice day out there. I used to take the run from Penn Station to Matawan, NJ, a lot and always felt that station was a great one to watch trains. You even get an occasional CSX or NS freight running through. Years ago there was a branch that ran all the way down to Freehold, but it's a bike trail now.
Very cool I’ve been to hillsdale station all the time when visiting my grandparents at old tappen New Jersey hillsdale station is one of my favorite ones
Thank you for the trip down memory lane. Not only do I remember when all of those stations were open, I recall a time when they had agents. Surprised you didn't dine at the Iron Horse Grill in Westwood.
@@3985uprr It's been a while since I've seen the old neighborhood. As the poet says: "But that was so many years ago...Before we all lived here in Florida..."
When the NJ Transit Pascack Valley line was originally running, it was just a one-way line. Just morning rush hour from NY State to Hoboken & just evening rush hour the opposite way. When they finally made extra tracks for trains to avoid each other going head to head. & adding more train times as well. I would've taken the station at New Bridge Landing. But thanks for doing these videos. I learn something new every day from you. You should do a rail history tutorial someday.
You saw Multilevels (Double Deckers) on the PVL??? That's rare!!! I think Trains 1621 and 1632 got some Multilevels on some occasions, but other than that, they're pretty rare on that line!!!
Well, now you've gone and done it. Out of the corner of my little eye, I spied "Emerson Hotel Restaurant" and now I need to go on a hunt for "Famous Sliced Steak"! I was already contemplating a WOR-SPG-NHV excursion soon and now I need to somehow squeeze in a side-trip to Emerson NJ, dang it... Well I was feeling a little NJ-nostalgic anyway and missing my old haunts in Madison and environs on the Morristown Line so "in for a Penny; in for a Pound" as they say, maybe? Thanks! (I think...)
@@3985uprr I noted that you landed somewhere further down the line. I bet it was a blast. Now to start my planning for my little jaunt. I'll be watching for your next adventure!
Great footage of a beautiful day. Did you buy a ticket for each hop or did the conductors let you ride through with stops? Either way it seems you enjoyed yourself. Didn't know you were a USAF vet, so am I! Keep 'em coming.
The Pascack has nice historical station buildings, but it has a couple reject ones, too. Essex St. Looked like a cheap bus stop one night in training when I blew past it and we had to back the train up one stop to let passengers off...embarrassing at best.
I think all of NJ transit trains GP40PH-2Bs EMD show replace all RS3L like that they had in the 1980s like 4102 4103 4104 4105 4106 4107 4108 4109 4110 4111 and 4112 but 4112 had a Nathan P5 horn
@@3985uprr same here. apparently it was given a Leslie SU3L and an accompanying S44. really don't get why they couldn't have given it an RS5T, but those do get pricey
Too bad you didn't show that street running that you spoke of in Hackensack at 1:15 . I must confess I am unfamiliar with it and would have liked to see it. By the way, beautiful stations, but all low platforms and no wheelchair accessibility or ramps. We have a long way to go in that regard. SEPTA is just as bad, as you know. Now that I am an invalid and handicapped , I realize just how important those things are. Regarding the Pascack Valley Line, I have little experience with it. For years it would have been impossible for me to ride the line. With sparse, rush hour only service in one direction for years, it would have been impossible for me to get back. For many years, people along that line fought for better service.
Looks like an awesome branch!!! Lots of historic depots love that K5LA on the Coast Guard locomotive!!!
You should cover the abandoned Northern Branch that went through Englewood to Nyack. Some great old stations remain such as Tenafly and Demarest.

Love seeing the PVL and the NJT/MN diesels. You got lucky to see those bi-levels!

Excellent video!. What a beautiful sound make those EMD 645 engines!. 8:39 It seems that he ran "long brakes"
Interesting mix of high/low level cars and locomotives. Nice review of the historic stations. Thanks Tim.😀😀💚💚

I saw the place there and it smelled good. I finished in Montvale and I’m a sucker for Irish Pubs

Drove between stations
Beautifully bucolic! So, how come many of the single level cars feature the NJT "rainbow" stripe, while others don't?
The Metro-North owned cars don't have the stripe. They get mixed in with the NJT equipment.
@@99scat Ahh! That explains it! Thanks!
Used to take the train from Woodcliff Lake to Hoboken back in the late 70s
I visited and railfan Anderson Street Station every several times since 2020.
My cousin lives not far from River's Edge station.
I believe Sunday is the last run of 8717

Sounds like the Railroad Video Production guy who did The CSX River line NY in 2000 through 2001 Valley cottage to Selkirk yard

There gone
But I do like the F40PH from NJ Transit and Metro North Railroad and the GP40FH-2B EMD
Did u do a video and did u see French onion soup engineer Ben armand today
Not on this line
have you seen what they did to 4101.!?
Can’t wait to see it run ll

I had just enough time that day to cover a limited number of stations. So ecstatic s but not all had handicap platform
Essex Street (Hackensack have the wheel accessibility for center doors. Unfortunately missed it. Mostly stops at lower level platform.
