Glad to see you back on Metro/North. Great viewing at that station. The Vermonter 55 has been running very late for quite some time due to severe speed restrictions in Vermont. 10 mph in a big section. Despite this problem the line remains popular with many sellouts and consistently 80-90% capacity.

When I was a messenger in NYC, I used to hang out where you were standing and recite the departures on the Solari board. Like 4:45pm train to Brewster North; White Plains first stop, or train to Croton Harmon; Yonkers first stop. And you're right about the Westchester and Boston. They had a terminal at 132nd Street and you had to take a ferry to reach Manhattan, whilst NH trains went straight into GCT. The NH beat them at their own game. I enjoyed the video. Looking forward to the next one.

I really gotta start getting back to railfanning @ Mamaroneck (even if whilst on a lunch break - working in Mamaroneck). I miss it... 😩 Especially liked watching trains from the end of the S/B platform closest to Larchmont, and watching them descend the hill from Larchmont to Mamaroneck.
Another fun spot in Mamaroneck, IMO - a bit of a walk though - is the Rockland Ave overpass that crosses over the line at the Marval lead south of Mamaroneck. Nice, clear view if you can aim through the chain link fence (or over it even). The overpasses north of the station can be OK for some vantage points, but the Rockland Avenue one is the best of the road overpasses here, IMO.
If I had a spare grand to blow on equipment, I'd like to get one of those cameras with the insane optical zoom. Always wanted to get clear video of trains going through Larchmont station from the comfort of the S/B Mamaroneck platform. 😂

Once whilst watching trains here, I tried to get the engineer of a push-pull to honk his horn, which ... he did, but then I impulsively tried to get the conductors in the rear cab car to honk their horn too... they did, midway through the station, LOUD and LONG... people actually jumped, I wouldn't be surprised if some soiled their pants. Good times, good times. 😂

Seems really cool on a mostly electric line. I don't know why people say you don't get out to Metro North much. You seem to get out there quite a bit. Especially coming all the way out from Long Island.

Tim, I thought the M8s could run multuple amps/hz settings on the legacy Penn Central (NH) catenary infrastructure. As such, are they not able to use the catenary on Hells Gate/NYCR all the way into Penn Station? You only covered this briefely in this video, but I'm curious how Metro North is going to come into Penn in 2024-2026 via Hells Gate if the M8s have an issue with thr current.

M8's were only built with 60hz transformers. 25hz capable transformers are much heavier and would have made the M8's too heavy, so it was decided to extend the 3rd rail beyond the 25hz/60hz frequency change just before the Hell Gate Bridge.

Nice to see everything {other than a Danbury train that should have dual mode locomotives} was feeding off of the electrification. Unlike the LIRR, with dual mode locomotives running in the diesel mode alongside third rail. In my opinion, that's outrageous. I've heard the excuses, but it should not be happening. What a waste. Those LIRR dual mode units should use every inch of third rail. It's all under the MTA umbrella. The problems with the dual modes or the engineers need to be addressed. And if Amtrak's Vermonter has a diesel {I couldn't tell}, it should have an electric locomotive. Amtrak needs to invest in some dual mode equipment.

    • @TBF_1J

I think the only dual mode locomotive Amtrak has is the GE P32AC-DM. Both electric (third rail) and diesel
